1  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / anyone live in indianapolis?? on: April 03, 2012, 11:55:36 PM
As with several other forum members... I joined the club and got a new job.  The only big catch is that this requires me to move to Indianapolis.  I have only been there once and haven't got a clue where to look for apartments/ which areas of town to avoid.  If anyone has any insight, I would appreciate it.

(I won't be moving until this fall so I have plenty of time to figure it out)

some places will put a $1 charge against your card when you use it while the full charge is pending.  This happens a lot at gas stations...

My dad had a hernia repaired and they actually had to cut him open.  he was restricted from heavy lifting for about a month.  If they do the surgery laparoscopically you will be up much quicker.  I had a laparoscopic procedure on my abdomen and felt fine a few days later (take off a thursday friday back at work monday.)

The key is definitely making sure the surgeon isn't a schmuck (or CK).  With all that being said, surgery is surgery and has risks.  Good Luck

if i remember correctly ATT does use a user name and password system.  you can check out the settings of the modem by typing into the browser... you might need a user name and password for that as well or a unique pin list on a sticker on the bottom of the modem.

sorry just realized you posted this last month... maybe i should read this section more often.

So, we are living an episode of "My First Place". Got a call this morning that the offer on the first place fell through. Inspection went great but the buyers claimed they could hear gunshots from a nearby shooting range. There is no shooting range that we know of anywere nearby, so we have no idea what he is talking about. Seller came back to us and we are waiting to hear word on our minor counter from before. If that goes through we'll have to look into this shooting range thing. Just crazy.
if you can't find info on a public shooting range see if there is a police range nearby...

So, how low is it going to go?  Sub 10k?  9K? 8k?

I think it will drop sub 10 then hang around 10500 until after the elections.... I wouldn't be surprised if it drops another 1500 points the next couple of weeks.  At this point total fear has sunk in on the markets and investors will continue to bail up to a certain point (usually around 9000 which would only be a 25% correction... at this point we are only at a 15% correction with all the negative news... look for retail to be weak... gold and precious metals are the safe bets... oil and commodities will plummet, but that won't really affect prices... inflation is bound to set in... unemployment will stay steady at 9.2%...  just my two cents (no i am not an investment person so don't take my ranting to actually mean anything)...
10  Non-Gaming / Political / Religious Nonsense / Re: US credit rating downgraded on: August 07, 2011, 03:00:30 PM
both political parties got us to where we are today.  I was very disappointed in the republicans unwillingness to budge on tax issues and democrats refusal to address social welfare programs.  I was also very disappointed that part of the compromise increased the cost of getting a college education by removing subsidized graduate school loans... politicians yell about passing the debt on to the next generation, but that is exactly what they are doing.  Their unwillingness to act will force my generation to make the hard cuts they won't...

Oh and the Tax revenue issue.  The tax code needs to be revised and revenue needs to be increased on the wealthiest Americans and corporations.  Those who argue tax increases on this group will slow hiring are full of shit... I was really pissed that Obama fought so hard to do this and then this week came out with Tax credits for companies who are hiring military vets (not that there is anything wrong with hiring vets).

Can't wait. I enjoyed the little Sam Axe spin-off they did recently.

OMG, I missed that! Now I have to track it down and watch it. A movie-length episode dedicated to a Bruce Campbell character? I'm so in! smile

I want to say it was a 2 hour special.... "The Fall of Sam Axe"

here is the synopsis from USA's Website

Before Sam Axe teamed up with Michael and Fiona, he was Commander Axe, U.S. Navy SEAL. The Fall of Sam Axe tells the story of how Sam went from respected Naval Commander to the man of mystery we've come to know on Burn Notice. On what will turn out to be Sam's last military mission, he is sent to the jungles of Colombia to investigate claims of a vicious terrorist organization known only as the "Espada Ardiente" (Flaming Sword). His mission: to determine whether U.S. military aid is necessary to deal with the threat. But when he arrives, things are more complicated than he'd imagined. He receives word that the rebels have targeted a small civilian clinic deep in the jungle. Sam must now save the clinic's doctors and patients from certain death. However, nothing is as it seems and the Espada Ardiente may not be the biggest threat Sam Axe faces.

My understanding is that the basic MobileMe account just allows you to track and lock your iPad remotely.  There is a mobile me service that allows you to store data and retrieve it from anywhere.  Without looking I believe that is the service you are referring to that costs money.

you should be able to do that if you format and reinstall if you have the windows 7 disk.  I usually do this when I get a new computer.  Not only will you be able to create the size drives you want, but it will also give you a clean install without all the extra crap.  It is a little more time consuming, but you are really accomplishing a couple different things... just a thought

Forcing government-run health care on the people is incredibly anti-constitutional, and Republicans know they were just elected to help make sure it isn't enacted.

Right I understand this, but isn't medicare just government run health care that is forced on seniors? or at least part A and part B put together is the cheapest insurance for them?  Why wouldn't the same logic apply to a lager population base?  If medicare, which is government run health care is one of the best choices for seniors (and a benefit most seniors aren't willing to give up) , isn't that proof that government run health care options can work?

Edit:  Also, maybe it is because i am not a lawyer, but why is requiring someone to have health insurance unconstitutional?  The government forces people people to buy car insurance (or be bonded), professionals are required to purchase malpractice insurance (or be bonded), businesses are required to have liability insurance, why is it that requiring health insurance is any different?
32  Non-Gaming / Political / Religious Nonsense / Health Care Law on: November 08, 2010, 02:40:40 AM
I remember reading statements earlier this week from Republicans that were something to the effect of congress should have focused on jobs and not health care.  I was just reading another news article on Fox News (yes I do occasionally read Fox News) with statements regarding the Health care legislation and an attempt to repeal it, even though they know it won't happen or will be vetoed by the President.  So my question is this:  Why is the Republican leadership focusing in on repealing health care legislation when THEY have all said the reason the democrats lost the house was because of the health care legislation?  This seems counter productive to them staying in office, using their own logic?

My second question is what is the difference between Medicare and what is proposed by the new legislation?  There were several ads, here in missouri, put out by the republican party about how horrible government run health care is and how bad the democrats are for wanting to cut back medicare to fund the initiatives of the new legislation... again this doesn't make sense to me because Medicare is nothing but government run health care.  Roll one program into the other and nothing is actually lost...

2nd edit:  CNN is now predicting the democrats will retain the Senate.  Basically, the status quo will continue.  Nothing will be accomplished because the republicans in the house won't work with either the president or the senate... and yes it does go both ways.... the democrats won't work with the republicans...

37  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: DSL speed in apartment building on: September 17, 2010, 02:08:07 AM
i think the rep is mistaken... this sounds exactly like how my last apartment handled it.  The apartment complex was built with ethernet ports in every room.  Their approved phone carrier was ATT.  I called ATT and ordered my own DSL line.  As long as you use the company they have their phone contracts with, I would think there isn't much they can do.  Especially since you can add your own services to dish.  My argument would be, I don't want to use the shared network (they will still make you pay the added amount), I want to add my own DSL just as if I were adding DVR or HD to dish.

all qwest would have to do is add the service to the phone line and send you a modem...   The nice thing about having your own is when the apartment's shits out you will still have internet.  This happened to me several times.... I had friends from other buildings coming over because the network went down and they needed something....
38  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: DSL speed in apartment building on: September 16, 2010, 01:36:48 AM
yes.... and it depends.

In my last apartment the IT guy had the buildings set up to share the bandwidth.  This is where you run into a situation where the more people you have on, the slower the connection.  Others, have a specific bandwidth allotment where regardless of how many people were connected, everyone got an equal share of the pie.  The idea behind the first way is that the apartment complex would need fewer internet lines because demand never remains constant (there is always someone not using the internet).  The problem was around finals time or about every 4 weeks, there would be days were the internet would just crawl because everybody was on trying to get shit done.

I ended up getting my own dsl line installed for about 35.00 a month and said screw the shared lines.

The other problem i experienced was the apartment's security levels were horrible for gaming.  They had it so locked down AIM wouldn't work, live wouldn't work, you couldn't stream video (netflix, hulu, etc...), and you couldn't go to youtube.

Really it all depends how it is setup

Or anything that changes in terms of quantity? (Not that I'm Adam from Man V. Food)

Getting tired of pudding, Jell-O and Soup. But I'm a little scared of going off that menu.

I had eggs, biscuits and gravy today and it was the greatest thing I can remember eating.

I love me some Biscuits and Gravy....

From what I can tell it really varies by person.  Hell... for me it varies by day sometimes.  What I would say is start out slowly...  if you eat something you shouldn't you will most likely experience what is called bile dumping.  This causes you to feel like shit... and well... shit... typically the types of food that will create this problem are those high in oils and fats (i.e.  I still don't eat much of anything fried or anything containing mayo.  Low amounts of butter are ok)  I haven't really noticed a change in what I eat.

The thing is... it varies by people.  I have to kinda watch what i eat while others really don't.
