the only thing I can throw in here is the age range.  One of the things that had Wii's selling out early on is how popular it is with older people.  Retirees and seniors are actually playing it... so I wouldn't worry about the age thing.

Action Force USED to be a different line, then in the late 80's Hasbro simply started using GI Joe's as Action Force.  For a while, Action Force had it's own mythology, but "Action Force" kinda became the international name of GI Joe.  A lot of fans have integrated Action Force's former lore into mainline GI Joe.  The former publisher of the comic, Devils Due, also used the Red Shadows, Action Forces enemy group, into the GI Joe book and there's heavy rumor that this years JoeCon will feature a con-exclusive Action Force/Red Shadows set.

I expected there to be a movie-based game... I like that they've been so secret about it until now...

also, official game site is up!
6  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: What the hell I'm I supposed to do with all of these plastic instruments? on: September 09, 2008, 08:09:25 PM

seriously, I'm willing to bet we see some eBay asshatterywhere people insinuate it's ROCK BAND for sale (or, Rock Band 2 for the really unethical), but in the fine print it's just the drums... some poor sap will think they're getting the game, the whole set... and it'll probably really ramp up at Christmas time.

sometimes, I HATE eBay.
7  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: A small army of used games and movies - WTF DO I DO WITH THEM? on: September 09, 2008, 08:04:29 PM
good route to go.  Nearly every town or city nowadays has a 'w e sell your stuff on eBay' store.  Could have done that... but at least a forum member gets a nice little perk for helping you out.

I was about to suggest eBay or the GT forums.  Craigslist is a pain in the ass unless you set up an email account just for the CL stuff...

Also, could look at local used bookstores.  Don't know what part of the world you're in, but I know in AZ (Tucson and Phoenix) there's a chain called Bookmans.  It's pretty much crack.  You take in stuff, they offer cash or trade (trade is always much more than you'd get in cash)... then use the trade in store (any of their locations), of which they have a pretty good selection.
Assuming you're not in AZ, I'm sure there are local used bookstores that may be similar.

or you could just pack it all and send it to me.  errr... I'll pay shipping!  Tongue

10  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Best news of the day! [YDKJ] on: August 20, 2008, 06:30:49 PM

I played YDKJ with my roommates way back when.  Great stuff.  YDKJ was theirs and I owned (still have, I think) the PC versions of WHo Wants to be a Millionaire... made by the same guys who did YDKJ.  No, not the same game but they made a fun version.  I can't wait for a new one!!!!
11  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Interesting article on rock games on: August 20, 2008, 06:24:56 PM
cool and very interesting.  Anything that gets people to expand their horizons outside their comfort zone is always a good thing.  I had a friend who was a hip-hop fan and that was all.  He was a wrestling fan and got into ECW in the mid-90's.  That opened him up to rock music and he listens to a bunch of different stuff now.
12  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / TNA Impact? on: August 15, 2008, 06:32:45 PM
It comes out in a few weeks (Sept 9, I believe).

Yeah, I'm the one guy left playing on a PS2 (I know not really, but, yeah... I'll be going next-gen next year).  The games official site still have PS2 listed as a release platform, but there's been almost ZERO information put out on either the PS2 nor the Wii version... so, has anyone heard whether these two versions have been scrapped???
13  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: 5 months left! what are you buying? on: July 21, 2008, 02:21:09 PM
must get games for me:
TNA Impact (wrestling)
WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2009
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

Rock Band 2

my only quandry?  Still gaming on a PS2 so do I upgrade to next gen?  I'd like to but finances don't necessarily allow me to do so... at least not without some belt tightening.  From what I understand, even the PS2 Force Unleashed looks simply amazing so that isn't the reason I'd need next gen... that would be Rock Band 2 and the downloadable content.
14  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Need help with my ps3.. on: July 15, 2008, 12:18:05 PM
send it to me and I'll fix it.  Send it with all games and blu ray discs you have.  Wait 2-3 years and I'll get it back to you.

15  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: worst parts of great games. on: June 20, 2008, 12:38:18 PM
The only one on the list I'd disagree with is Mario Kart's Blue Shells.  Probably because I only play MarioKart in multiplayer with friends while drinking, so the competition isn't too serious.  In fact our goal when playing probably isn't to win so much as to annoy the other players

To me, it came off as them being whiny lil biznitches.  If it was NASCAR, then, yeah, totally agreed... but it's a freaking party game... winning was a bonus, not the focus... effing up your opponents was!
Hell, I remember when it first came out on N64, we would have a bunch of people over and play that damned game until 6 am.  GOOD TIMES!!!
16  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: gamers sue EA!!!! on: June 17, 2008, 07:05:28 PM
I love how a ONE TIME promotional ploy from four years ago(the releasing of 2k5 a month early and at $20) suddenly establishes what the standard cost of a new game it.  Jeebus, some of you need to have your head checked.  The previous entry (2k4) was not priced at $20 when it was released either - it was released at full price.  Same as every other sports game made by a non-indy developers.

Well said... this pretty much sums it all up for me.  I do think the judge will see the starting price point for games and rule in EA's favor, but it's also hilarious that the drubbing EA has gotten in years past that a class action lawsuit by gamers gets thrown at them.

that there is comedy, people.

What was always funny about the NFL/EA exclusive deal was 2K5 was universally accepted as the better NFL game that year (I had it, I loved it) and right when Madden gets toppled as the top franchise, they take out the competition.

no doubt, like wtf? It just boggles my mind that people are paying for the same game year after year. It's like what guitar hero has come once activision got it. i'm not rushing out to buy those anymore either. fool me once and all that.

I have never, and will never, buy a sports title in consecutive years.  Especially in this age where our consoles connect to the internet and we can download updated rosters and have current information on teams.  I got Madden 08, last Madden I had before that was 04.  No need to get it year after year... especially when very few changes are introduced.  Go 2 or 3 years between editions and you can notice the change.

18  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Adam Sessler gets pissed about homophobes and racists on Live on: June 17, 2008, 12:24:17 PM
Sessler makes an excellent point in the sense that, one of these days, the media is going to use a series of clips of 10 year olds calling people fag and dropping the N word over and over.  It'll take them all of 10 minutes to compile.  And then everyone's argument that video games are not damaging our youths will be right out the window.  Sadly, maybe they're even right in this sense.  The violence isn't a problem, it's being desensitized to hate-speech that is.

this is the argument in a nutshell.  Perception is reality... whether it's something you encounter or not, it exists.  The media WILL compile the behavior (and I wonder if this rant may not bring it to the attention of some media who will grab hold of it and compile such language) and they will make an issue of it.

Sadly, the true issues won't be discussed... it will be about video games breeding racists, ignorant people.  Never will they wonder where these kids picked up the language (likely parents or friends) nor will they question the parents who pass the language on to the kids why they babysit the kids with an X-Box instead of interacting with the kids.  Some parents nowadays just confound me.  My parents gladly let me play video games, but they NEVER let me overdo it.  I would get kicked out of the house, locked out and not let back in so I couldn't just sit in front of the tv.  My parents also never threw around such derogatory statements.  Lo and behold, I'm not a user of such terms.

Sessler's point, though, is it doesn't really matter how many people do it, it's getting more and more of an issue and as soon as this becomes part of the public's perception of gamers/gaming, the industry will be looked down on and ostracized again.  Gaming has gathered a lot of respect and mainstream acceptance and this is the thing that can undo it.

20  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: pansy ass needs help on: June 02, 2008, 12:18:12 PM
pkay okay... so saying she hasn't "let" me was maybe exageration.  She's just kept me so busy with other things, namely losing over 60 pounds in the last 4 months through healthy eating and exercise, that I really haven't had the time to play like I used to.  And it's ok.  The majority of games I've been playing the last year or so have been Smackdown and Madden/NCAA football... so I have a good 2 months until the "need" really hits and I'm watching football all over the tv  biggrin

I ended up getting the American Idol Encore off the Best Buy site for $30... mic included.  I saw auctions for that same game going over $70!  I was tempted to buy 5 of them and sell them on eBay for profit!
21  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: What are you buying this week? (6/2) on: June 02, 2008, 12:12:50 PM
interesting that the only releases for Wii and PS2, and the majority of releases on the other systems, are all movie tie-ins/related.

Indy Lego for me... probably rent it.
22  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: pansy ass needs help on: May 30, 2008, 02:18:13 PM
the most important aspect of this is the constant DLC for RB as well. I mean at least 3 things a week. We just got cars, next month is pixies and hopefully after this is the who. not to mention the DLC more than doubles the included list as well.

wow... see, now I HAVE to think about this.  Problem is, no HDTV so if I did go next gen I'd have to get the new TV... and a new sound system (when I moved I left my old sturdy yet craptacular one behind) and all those expensive goodies.

But The Pixies ARE her favorite band... she should appreciate the purchase just for that!  smile

Thanks all... I'll check out the sites... not a fan of cheapassgamer but if it gets me a game then so be it...
23  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / pansy ass needs help on: May 29, 2008, 08:16:40 PM
ok... first I'm gonna say I'm not posting this in the sell/trade area because I'm not outright asking anyone HERE to trade or sell me a copy of these games...

My fiancee and I saw the movie Baby Mama a few weeks back. Hilarious movie.  In the movie, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler play the American Idol game... I believe the second one in the "Karaoke Revolution presents..." series.

Of course, my fiancee, who has been incredibly reluctant to me hooking up my PS2 (yeah, yeah... still haven't upgraded to next gen)WANTS this game.  I mean, she WANTS it.

I've been looking around and have seen some decent deals on the Encore edition bundle... but I'm a cheap ass and don't/can't spend too much money right now (she's my fiancee, so all monies are being put towards wedding stuff... yay).  I'm looking for a bundle, for sure as I need the microphone(s).  I'm really not interested in the Singstar series as what I've read about it I'm not too impressed... and, despite not watching much TV at all, she really wants the American Idol version.

I think I can reasonably pass off the Karaoke Revolution games on her as the AI game seems to be one of those just with the judge's commentary added in.  But, good freaking lord, the KR games are HARD to come by.  The prices on eBay are crazy... sometimes going over what I've seen listed at some websites!!! eek

So, what I'm turning to the GT legion... I just need some good websites that have cheap games... and fairly low-key so that it's not sold out all over the place.  That's the other issue I've come across.

And now you know why I'm a pansy ass... but I'd to call it prefer P-whipped... biggrin
24  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Is the SNES the Best Game Console Ever? on: February 12, 2008, 10:53:26 AM
I don't know, I had fun with the SNES but never as much as I had with my Genesis.  I owned an SNES for a few short months and gave it to my brother... bought it cheap with a few games from a friend so I didn't feel the need to charge my bro anthing.

For Genesis, my first game was an awesome starter game for the system... the first X-Men game.  Hell, at the time I didn't even have a color tv and played the hell outta that game.

I always ask Genesis fans, which games do you identify with?  I always have trouble picking out good Genesis games.

the abovementioned X-Men
NBA Jams-- I first played it in Vegas, spending hours in the arcade in the casino tearing that game up... and when it hit home consoles, I had to get it.  I was blown away at how much the home version was like the arcade version, back then a rarity.
Flashback-- advertised as the first cd quality game on a cartridge.  It was freaky and interesting and I got sucked in.

And another thing the Genesis had over the competition?  The NOMAD, which, IMO, wins for best handheld console.  It swapped it's games out with Genesis so no need to buy seperate games, you could hook it up to a tv and use it as a Genesis... hell, it even had a prot for a second controller to plug in.  I actually still have mine.

I agree PS2 is at the top.  NES, as well.
25  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: PS3 and Netflix? on: February 12, 2008, 10:36:31 AM
That's why I love using my laptop - I can just attach a cable via the S-Video out and watch whatever I have on it. Guaranteed compatibility no matter what I load up.

I do something similar... I hook my surround system straight into my laptop.  Watch the flick on the laptop and have surround system gonig... works for me!
26  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Anyone picking up a new 40 GB PS3? on: November 06, 2007, 04:10:09 PM
then the 40gig is obviously not the version for you.  get the 60gig or 80gig

lol... that's the idea.  If I had a newer PS2, then I probably would consider the 40gb... but no, not for me.  That' doesn't mean it's wrong for everyone though...
27  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Anyone picking up a new 40 GB PS3? on: November 06, 2007, 11:44:38 AM
Is it a good deal?  sure.

BC is my bone of contention, though.  I have an older, non-slim PS2 so when I get a PS3, I want the BC.  My old PS2 is just getting on in age... it stopped playing dvd movies a while back.

I totally get the example of not playing PS1 games anymore... 'm in that boat now.  But when I get the new system, the library will mainly be PS2 games.
28  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: And....a new PS3 SKU for the US on: October 20, 2007, 11:47:31 PM
What's up with the ALL CAPS name?

Because Sony likes talking about themselves IN BIG GIANT LETTERS. It makes them feel more important.

actually, it's fairly commonplace for companies to do such on press releases.  Not all, but most.

BC is the big breaker for me, so the 60gb is out of the question.  with the price drop on the 80gb, maybe I'll get one soon...

31  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Gilbert Arenas cheats at Halo. on: October 16, 2007, 10:32:58 AM
I've been to a number of great UW/UA games, many of which my Huskies won.  Like in 2004, when Nate Robinson came from the weak side to throw down the most amazing alley-oop I've ever seen in person.  I recall beating the wildcats a couple of times that season.

hey man, all in fun... hope you didn't take anything I said to heart too much.  Hell, UW does have a great basketball team... I don't know what the hell happened last year.  The year before, though, IIRC, they made it to the elite 8.  Not bad at all.  Hell, last year Arizona was a 10 loss team.  I attribute it more to the parity of the Pac-10 than anything else.  People can keep their ACC... Pac-10 Basketball is the best conference in college basketball and, qute literally, any team can beat any of the other conference teams on any night.  Hell, ASU opened Pac-10 play last year losing something like 10 or so in a row, but most of them were fairly close games.

As for this Arenas cheating brouhaha... well, I just don't really think it's bad.  But maybe, just maybe, Bungie or whoever handles online content could come up with two gamers classifications people can opt into.  One for the serious "I'm going to rule the entire online world" gamer and one for the casual "just fucking around with friends and whoever wants to shoot around" gamer.
Seriously, if someone who does what amounts to point farming in a video game twists your (now in the universal sense, not directly at anyone here) panties into a knot, then maybe you should take a step back and reexamine some things.  Are you a competitor for Major League Gaming?  If not, than maybe it's time to tone it down a bit.
Me?  I get online to mess around and have some fun... the national world whatever rankings for players mean absolutely nothing to me.  Kind of like on NCAA Football... if I get into a game with someone who seemingly has analyzed the software code to know exactly how things line up and where to go, pulling squib kicks for a deflection to force a fumble, etc... then I quit playing.  I don't care, I take the point hit in the rankings.  It's just a game and I'm not going to play against someone who has gone to such lengths to take the fun out of the game.
Granted, I'm not big on HALO.  Hell, I haven't played any since the first game.  But, as mentioned above, I do play sports games online so I do understand.
32  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Gilbert Arenas cheats at Halo. on: October 13, 2007, 03:44:09 AM
Playing for the Warriors is precisely why he's a success today.  And, of course, they offered him a contract just as lucrative, but he (though he's probably lying) flipped a coin to join the Wiz.  ARGH!

no... Lute Olson is why Arenas is a success.  Consistently hailed as one of the best fundamentals coaches in all of basketball, Lute knows how to set these guys up for success.  The NBA game is being watered down by high school kids that don't learn these kinds of things.
As for the contract... well, maybe he just wanted to play for a different team?  Athletes do this all the time.  It's called "free agency" for a reason.

wow... what a prelude to...
yes, I am from Tucson... I am a fan of Arenas and everything Wildcats.
besides, what do you care about basketball... Washington doesn't even have a team  Tongue

...though I did date a girl from Seattle for a long time, thought about relocating up there... so you can imagine how it was between us whenever the teams played... no matter what sport it was!
33  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: I don't have a (fill in the blank) console because.... on: September 04, 2007, 09:20:07 AM
I don't own any of the next gen systems.

Like most, the cost is prohibitive.  I went to school with Knightshade Dragon's wife a couple years back... hearing about all the goodies he gets for reviewing on the site and whatnot, I almost thought about switching professions.  smile

PS3: has what I want most.  I like Blu-Ray.  I like Sony.  The cost is harsh, though.  Star Wars: Force Unleashed is probably what I would buy this system for, though I know it's not PS3 exclusive.

X-Box 360: Again, cost... and just not a big X-Box fan.  Halo isn't enough to get me to get the system, either.

Wii: Probably the system I get first.  The cost is what makes that case. Funny how people balked at the N64's price being too high and now Nintendo has the lowest priced system.

lack of an HDtv also makes a difference.  I do have an 19" HD computer monitor with HDMI connections, but I'd rather wait till I get a big screen.

I understand Sony recently said they expect to continue producing PS2 another 2-3 years due to it outselling the other systems still.  I wonder if the gaming studios will keep production up on those games instead of going next-gen exclusively.
34  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: The circle is complete, Sony is making money. on: April 27, 2007, 10:14:55 PM
But damn, lets give it to SONY they really challenged nintendo for the first time in the handheld market, no one has even come CLOSE.

the sad thing about this is there have been some GREAT systems out there that, at the time, just couldn't come close to Nintendo.

SEGA's NOMAD was a personal favorite... I'mean, c'mon... a handheld that played your console's games?  No need to buy seperate games?  And it worked as a Genesis on it's own, just hook it up to a TV?  That was one great machine....

For what it's worth, as said here, I've heard they weren't bad for the money (read: low, low price).  The bunper car game was easily the best selling of the 3 titles available.
you might want to chack a BK near you.  I routinely hang out with some guys from 2 different stores and both stores have a pretty decent stock still.

I seem to remember at launch there were quite a few with one or two dead pixels, and Sony said it wouldn't be reason enough for an exchange/service.  I seem to remember the number acceptable for a return was something like "more than x," but I can't honestly remember what it was... could have been 5, could have been 25.

At 8, I would suggest just giving Sony's service number a call and ask.  Never know, right?

I was just thinking how neat it would be for us all to share one adapter for the whole website. The only caveat is that each person would need to add something to the box for the next person. Doesn't have to be anything valuable and could be something like candy...

I'm willing to bet there's people alreadydoing that somewhere out there...

You only need the mem card adapter if you want to transfer existing saves- not make new ones.  So you have a cheap one time purchase.

the only problem with that is it's a one-time purchase for a one-time use accesory.  No other accesory, that I can think of, has that same disadvantage.

It's been a while since I stepped into a Blockbuster so I don't know if they've started renting PS3 games yet, but a rental place could make a KILLING on renting these things out.  $4 for a couple days rental to transfer all your saves???  GameStop should look into it as that's pretty much their entire consumer base that could find the rental useful.
