Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Netflix to PS3

A simple equation:
price drop + Netflix + Bluray = Buying a PS3 soon
I might play some games on it too. This will be my first Sony console if I do end up buying one. But it's not that much more money than a standalone BR player with wireless and Netflix.
When I looked, a good standalone with built-in wireless and Netflix was $400. On sale, maybe $350. PS3, $300. The LG BD390 has wireless, Netflix, and YouTube and sells for about $275 right now. I've seen it lower and in another year, I bet it'll break $200. Having to use a disk to watch Netflix on the PS3 is a bummer but maybe that won't be a permanent thing. I just bought one of these. Its not bad. I paid $~240 shipped from Amazon.

yeah, i have to agree with you there SL. of course, i missed something while going through it (lockpicking) and of course, you don't have to redo it unless you want to thanks to the respec option, so it's not too much a pita.
What are you referring to here? I did find an item in the intro that required 50 lockpick but that seemed impossible at the time? I guess maybe not if you it tagged, maxed its SPECIAL attribute and were wearing that item that boots pick by five? Not sure. If the CE had included a spiral bound manual I probably would have bought that edition just for old time's sake.
Yeah that is the only thing I will buy a CE for, a better manual. None of the other stuff I have ever seen included moves me at all. Especially not soundtracks and cheapo plastic shit. I was a little disappointed that I could create my character with an Intelligence of 1 and still carry on normal conversations with everyone. Yes! I was hoping for some stupid-enhanced dialogue choices. I am playing the 360 version and I love it. I think my PC could have handled it, and the game would probably run at a higher res. But I dont have a 61" screen for my PC. I am also really digging the controls. The pip boy interface is very intuitive for me and the way you use the triggers to move among the 3 main sections and then the D-pad to move within them, I like. I also like the barter/inventory interface. Its worlds better than default Oblivion was on the PC. As for the combat challenge...I find Radscorpions, Centaurs and Super Mutant Brutes to be a handful at level 5 for my repair/speech/small guns guy. I just can not deal much damage to them at long range and in close, they chew me up. Running around waiting for APs to refill works, sort of, but its unfun and I would rather just slug it out toe-to-toe and then stimpack it. I have not faced a Deathclaw. As for the overall game, I think its much better than Oblivion and will appeal to more people, for longer. I got the sense from Oblivion, though it could just be me, that it was a game a lot of people started but very few finished. Even though all of the content there was 'by hand' (I think), it felt like more of a sandbox game and kind of...lifeless. Morrowind and Oblivion have always struck me as being best classed as single player MMOs. This game, I think, people will play, enjoy, finish, then maybe play again or at least start again to see what happens when you choose a different path/skill/etc. I think F3 has a real good chance to be GOTY on all three of its platforms...maybe not the PS3 since it is shit for games and I have never actually played anything retail on it so I have no idea what is considered a good game on it.

Pre-ordered! Nice demo. Finally something to play on my PS3 instead of blue-ray movies.
Ha! Same here. This will be the first game I ever play on my PS3. I guess technically the *demo* for it was the first game. OR, perhaps even more correct, the mini-game of having to create a new user with a UK address in order to access the Euro PS3 store to DL the demo for free, would have been the first game I played on my PS3. You get the point though.

The grade seems to be tied to speed only.
The xp and whatever that other stat are, are tied to kills. But not everything (at least in the one skirmish battle included with the demo) gets you points.

I dont like it.
No Google Browser Sync for one, that sucks. I have seen Mozilla Weave mentioned as an alternative but it seems to be a closed beta right now.
Also, I have issues with some sites and xmlrpc and firefox 3. I can use Firefox 2, IE 7 or Safari and do not have the problems.

BG2 is the greatest game I have ever played. I am sure if I replayed it now I would not feel that way. But at the time, man I loved it and any game like it? Sign me up for two copies.

I am still enjoying the game. I have about 26 hours in and the next plot mission I have is the one that opens the aerodrome (I think). I have been hitting the auctions hard to try and get some new abilities. You can rest for up to 200 days at a time at Lezaford's hut so you can advance to auctions quickly, if you want. You can get great items easily with the auction house, once you are region master.
Regarding the 4 clan stats, what do they do aside from being pre-reqs for some clan trials?

From what I've read, the sequel is actually harder than the original. Bummer. I liked many of the concepts of the first one, but it was way too grindy and the difficulty curve was far to steep for my tastes. Looks like I'll be skipping the sequel entirely. Yeah I do not really get what they are going for. Its grind for the sake of grind. Not fun. I played the first one a lot but at some point I just got sick of it to the point where you could not pay me to play it again. The mapping was awesome, great fun. The classes and character building and combat are right up my alley. But so much of the game consisted of combat in places you had already mapped and unfun travel tedium/inventory UI management.

Survey did not work for me. Using Firefox on macbook. When I click next on the section that ends with you ranking what influences your purchasing decisions it would reset to the first page of the survey, with my answers pre-populated.

Gladius was tremendous. One of the only 'western' SRPGs around. The only?
That said, it sold terribly and I would be stunned if another one was made that was anything like the first. I did hear that there was a sequel to Gladius 2 in development at one point but that it was canceled shortly after the release of the first one.

I think they are good changes. Great even.
Many of the professional sellers actively blackmail buyers with disclaimers stating things like 'Dont bid if you arent going to give us 5 stars across the board' or 'Negative feedback will be reciprocated' etc.
And it goes without saying that feedback from banned/suspended accounts should not count...I am surprised that was not changed a long time ago.

Oh and what the hell is with the "go around and collect flags for the informer" missions?? I mean, what the hell were they thinking??
Yeah I dont know. Does not really fit at all with anything. I want to know why the game set in the 21st century instead of the 12th? Has there been an explanation for that? Do you think whoever dreamt the game up thought 'How about a game where you play a 12th century assassin in the middle east...but you arent *really* an assassin, its your ancestor's MEMORIES you are living out?'. That seems...unlikely. It seems more likely the game started as being set in the 12th century but the animus/21st century aspects were added on later, and I want to know why. I am not done with the game but, half way though, the animus shit adds nothing to the game IMO, I feel like it takes away from the game.

Amongst the best purchases of my life have been HDTVs. So much use of them, for them, with them.
Agree, in the singular. We got our first one just before Christmas...lol wtf was I waiting on? No idea. If you are reading a computer game forum I can almost guarantee you will not regret going from SDTV to and HDTV.

Looks good to me. The Rambo franchise does not exactly have a high bar. IMO, only the first one was a good/great movie. 2 and 3 were terrible.

Infinite spawn is frustrating and stupid, especially when certain parts of the game have timers. It feels like a puzzle game to me in a lot places. You get killed, see what killed you, fix it and move on. Thats shit and not fun.

Tremendous game.
The Ashley/Kaiden thing was a tough moment. I saved Ashley initially but I had a savegame a little before so I went back to see what saving Kaiden was like. Both well written, well presented. I felt bad about both of them dying.
I was a paragon but I said fuck the council, it seemed like an easy choice. They were assholes all game and the choice was spun as 'save the council' or 'go after sovereign at all costs'. Then I chose the captain as the prime minister...I cant imagine anyone picking the other guy as he was also a prick all game long.
I can not wait for the sequel.
Problems I have/had with the game:
The Mako. While I got a *lot* more proficient with the controls as the game went on, this entire part of the game was bad IMO. Too many crashed probes and surveyable minerals. WAY TOO MANY. Really not enough variety and very little reward for exploration. Just more of the same. Driving around was very unintuitive initially and you are dumped into your first Thresher Maw encounter too soon and with little preparation. Also, no way to trick out the Mako? Come on!
Money. Pointless. While you are hard pressed early on to afford anything, once you get off the citadel the money starts rolling in. I finished with 999 omni-gel and 9999999 credits.
Gear. Too generic. The names of the guns were cool but Tornado VI and Tornado VII, etc. Come on. Also, the specter gear is too good. I found a couple of guns that were comparable very late in the game...but I had the best weapons in the game too early. The mod part was cool, but there were too many mods and they very unbalanced. A handful were awesome, most sucked.
Inventory. Terrible buy/sell interface. I actually like the way you equip characters but overall the inventory was too much work.
