I liked it.  I actually felt sympathetic towards Quentin at the start of "episode 15" (the second half) despite the rest of the season.

Spoiler for Hiden:
As far as Matt's GF's dad, we did have some inkling that he was scary/going to assault Matt.  The way Ariel felt about him in 3.13 when she was explaining things to Matt, his opinions at that first dinner table meeting, and the looks he gave Matt in 3.13 and 3.14 (first half of the two hours) were both some pretty hefty implications that something big was going to go down.

Quote from: "Morgul"
Ok, I need some clarification on this.

In eq2, "need before greed" was a gentlemans agreement that is someone would use the item and attune it, they had loot rights to it.  If two people needed the item, they randomed.  If no one needed everyone randomed for selling rights.

Yeah, there's a Need before Greed auto roll setting but it lets warriors roll on everything and cloth roll on nothing...  The gentlemen's agreement thing is pretty much what people use though, eah.

How does someone ninja loot if you got loot set to either "master looter" or lotto??  (Except by not honering the need before greed pact?)

Master looter no one but the master looter (who controls what goes where) can ninja in ML.  In the autorolling system, a ninja loot is considered someone rolling on something if everyone else was passing or if they didn't need.  Basically not honoring the loot rules.

But till then, I jsut wanted to know what normal policy was in pick up groups with strangers...

Sound like the NBG I described above is correct...

Yup. Need before greed.  Just be careful about people who might not follow the gentleman's agreement.

In higher levels, I've seen the best and worst of groups and think if you don't trust the people you're grouping with ML is a good idea, but thankfully I usually group with trustworthy people (like Gedd! /wave).  ML isn't buggy anymore but I don't really like using it myself.  I'd rather find out the person's untrustworthy in some random instance run anyways than bring them on a giant raid and have bad stuff happen then somehow.
4  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Care to answer some questions about WOW for me? on: July 28, 2005, 01:06:08 PM

I have tapped out the quests in the silverpine area, except for a few.
These few are simply too tough for us.   One is to go to a town south of the sepulchure, but the town gate is guarded by a Elite mob, which slapped us around a few times.  (We had no chance)...  I have a few quests, all are labeled "elite" and one is labeled "dungeon" (i think dungeon is in ogrimm), and looks like the wife and I cannot handle them.  That instance we were attacked by multiple level 19 mobs when we zoned in, so we cannot go there...

So, do I need to go somewhere else and quest until I get more levels, then come back for these "elite" quests??  Any suggestions on where to go since apparantley I cant go further here till I get a few levels and a full group.

What low level instances/dungeons should I be looking at now or in the near future?  (level 17)

So Elite and Dungeon quests are meant to be done with a group of people. Elite means there are Elite mobs (tougher than the average mob but doable with just 5 or less) along the way in the quest, Dungeon means you have to go into an instance to get the quests done.

If you're having trouble making progress out in Silverpine, there's a wealth of quests in The Barrens (fly to Ogrimmar and head south/west) you can do.

As far as Instances go, you'e the right level for Ragefire Chasm (Levels 12-17 instance in Ogrimmar, some quests from Thrall in Org, Magatha in Thunder Bluff, and Vamithrias in the Undercity) and can probably visit the Wailing Caverns (roughly 18-22 instance in The Barrens).  The instance I bet you visited earlier was Shadowfang Keep, for levels 20-24 in Silverpine)

Also, found a tank last night, level 16.   Problem is, he didnt seem to hold aggro at all.   What level do tanks get taunt?   I figure either he is really a newbie, or tanks dont have taunts at level 16.  He wasnt a very aggrssive puller either, so maybe just a new guy.  /shrug

You get defensive stance and taunt at level 10 but some people never seem to get tanking all the way to 60.  Even without taunt though, if you spam aggro generating abilities like sunder armor, shield bash, revenge (shield block if revenge isn't up) you should be able to hold aggro.

Also, mining...  I got a ability called smelting or something.  Think it turns ore into bars or some such.    Do I need to smelt stuff into bars before I sell them at the AH, or why not just sell them as raws?  Or do tradeskillers need the stuff made into bars first before they can use them?

Only miners can smelt and you need to smelt it before tradeskillers can use it in Smithing/Engineering. However, some people might prefer the raw ore for skilling up Mining, so it's up to you before you AH it.
5  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Wow! Not liking Babylon 5 so far... on: June 01, 2005, 09:17:22 PM
It gets better in a lot of ways.  I don't think the narration ever really goes away but it changes and the more you watch the more you'll get into it.

It's been a while since I've seen season 1 and I think a lot of what gets laid down there is framework which they constantly build off in the episodes to come.  It works out well.

EDIT: Actually thinking about it more, last friend I showed the stuff to I just started them on season 2.  I half regretted it but half didn't as the first season (despite some of the nice building blocks) is tedious in comparison to how much it picks up in later seasons.
6  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WoW - Children's Hour on: May 02, 2005, 05:16:03 AM
I was showing my kid the air elementals of Silithus.  And then my tracking showed TWO oozed covered rich thorium veins were waiting for me... side by side....

Underneath the ground... in a slithid hive... surrounded by level 55+ elite stealthed swarming flying giant bug things.

But it was rich thorium...

So I took my ward down deep into the depths of this cave. Just training the mobs with shield wall and such.

Turned out, underground there was a wall of sorts between the two veins.  One side of the wall was great, you could mine without being attacked by any silthids and be ok.
Unfortunately I was on the other side of the wall. The one with the pulsating hive thingamabober. And several 57 elite flying silthids.

As I was stung to death, I saw my little orc orphan standing there watching and wondering what was going on.  When I ressed he was nowhere to be seen.  Maybe the silithids ate him too.  Or maybe they decided to raise him as one of their own....

We can only hope.

It's a great show, pick up Season 1 on DVD and give it a whirl if you want. While some people complain it raises questions without giving many answers, Season 2 will answer many if not all of your questions.
9  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / So, Carnivale... on: March 08, 2005, 06:40:20 AM
Haven't seen any threads here and have wondered why considering what the past few weeks have brought us.  I finally feel like I can explain the first season.  Like one or two things weren't just weird for the sake of weird but definitely meant someting.

I'm not going to spoil anything but I really think if Season 1 was about who Ben and Justin are, Season 2 is what they are and explaining the core mysteries while still compelling us to watch and drawing us in.

I saw the trailer for Season 2 and thought to myself how could they give us lots of answers and not just break the show.  Well now I know :-)

Anyone else feel this way?
10  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / LOST - 02/09/05 HOLY CRAP!!! on: February 16, 2005, 12:50:00 PM
Mysteries can break two ways.

Carnivale kept mysteries the whole first season.  They started answering them and boy are those answers interesting and neat.

X-Files kept Mulder's sister a mystery for the longest time.  And personally I think the final resolution to it was kinda lame (I didn't even realize it was resolved for a while).  After you put so many twists and turns into the mix, you have no choice but to go with something crazy.

So I'm willing to give the mysteries of Lost a shot. Maybe they'll be cool.
11  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Loot Rules on: February 06, 2005, 10:31:05 PM
Hey now no racial fights here....

But Alliance is full of paladins and hunters who have no honor and nina loot stuff. There. I said it :-)

Seriously though, both sides are technically honorable and good.  We have our rogue factions (Undead trying to kill EVERYONE secretly, Night Elves kinda tinkering with nature in a bad way) but we both have noble intentions.
12  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Loot Rules on: February 05, 2005, 08:32:54 PM
As far as I can tell it'd be for the coolness factor. I mean it's just blue mail and warriors get plate at 40.... In fact if I were running with that I'd try and toss it to a Shaman or a Hunter since they get mail at 40.  The item in question is Bind on Pickup so it's definitely for his own benefit.

The critical strike helm, Ravager (axe), and Aegis (shield) are the best loot drops for warriors in that place at that level really.  After a few Uldaman runs I'd given up the helm though (Uldaman can be beat before level 45 and there's a fun plate helm there).

As far as how I feel about people "calling loot", I guess I'd definitely understand if they'd been making many many runs for one particular item and even if I kinda wanted it, I'd probably pass on it for them.  I don't think someone who outright demanded it or they wouldn't go sounds like someone that'd be fun to group with.

I myself am more than happy to go to instances that have no reward/exp for me other than helping someone get a nice piece of loot, or helping a lower level group make it through a tough fight.  Been to Scarlet Monastary and many other lower level instances even when I was 50 a couple of times just to help lower level casters get Doan gear or Whitemane's Chapeau :-)

You can use the ? mark in the game to report the issue to a GM. Forget what category you should use but that's one of the best ways to get someone to hear a bug and sometimes you get to talk to a GM (albeit one or two days later in some cases) or at least an email from them saying thanks.

I got a snowball machine schematic after helping a friend. Not only are they fun, but they're needed to activate your snowman suit (also greench reward I think).

The recipes (one for each major profession, from tailoring to engineering) were a reward for the level 30+ greench quest.  It was a random reward so sometimes to get the one for your profession you had to trade or buy or get one as a gift.  Did I mention they had wrapping paper for gift giving at the vendors too?
18  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / (WoW) New patch contents 12/16 on: December 17, 2004, 08:42:13 PM
The way taunt works now is that it basically clears the agro of the mob the instance you hit taunt, save for a little hate toward the warrior.

Really? I thought it gave you enough aggro to overcome the last thing that hit it (Just enough aggro).  That's why you always taunt after a Pyroblast or some other humongous aggro causing action to get a just the right amount of aggro on you and proceed to follow it with chains of warrior abilities.

I know what it's like to have to pull a mob off insane aggro.  I play with my fiance and she's a raging fire mage.  She'll keep casting every single nuke/death spell as much as she can repeatedly till she's out of mana and create ENORMOUS aggro.  She LOVES pyroblast and every spell the mage has that creates massive aggro, including AOE spammage from time to time.  You have no idea how hard it was to pull things off her before the "awesome warrior changes".  She hits harder and is super fire-speced now but I'm having an easier time keeping the aggro provided I'm keeping my rage up, cleaving, sundering armor, and taunting mainly when my aggro generating capability isn't good enough.  It's different from before as now you rely more on the enemy targeting skills to create aggro but different != bad necessarily.

Basically we used to do damage to keep aggro.  Now we use skills to keep aggro.  It's what makes the druid and paladin function as tanks now too.  When a fire mage is critting unbelievablely high amounts of damage, I'm still keeping the aggro if I play my cards right.  I think it's more about forgetting the old system and getting used to the new.

You cleared out Brewnall Village, Steelgrill's, Kharnos, Ironforge for your level? And what level are you atm? Have you been to Loch Modan?

This used to be a problem with undead (you'd barely get to 10 and then be sent to Silverpine where you'd have trouble soloing) but additional quests fixed that pretty quick and now you can comfortable hit 12-14 in 1-10 zone (Brill/Tirisfal) and then head over to the 10-20 zone (Sepulcher/Silverpine) and get a lot of yellows.

I thought the dwarf lands levelled you up a good deal (you leave the starter area  to Kharanos around 4-6, then level up a fair bit with random quests in the area) but I haven't played one very far.   If you feel you need more yellow quests and have cleared them out so fast, take the Deeprun Tram to Stormwind and head west to Goldshire for some quests in the area that are easily solable and will level you up.  If you're above 12, I'd say you're about ready to start on Loch Modan but you could level up some more in the Dwarf lands.

You really can solo a good deal in WoW, even at the higher levels (though I'm only around 34 now. But I've seen soloable quests all the way up to this point)

For what it's worth, I'm enjoying my warrior immensely and feel that it's much easier to keep aggro in a group even before you get taunt now.

It is an excellent show. Watching the trailer for season 2 really made me excited for it.

The season 1 recap is kinda an ad for watching season 1 again/on DVD but I'd avoid watching it if you haven't seen the series yet as it gives away a bit (random important spoilers and also where a few people stand... though that might be obvious to some).  The season 2 trailer throws some cards out there but isn't going to spoil the new season (though in passing some major season 1 spoilers are thrown about).

Can't wait.

As far as Horde females, female undead don't look that bad.. if you can ignore the bones that jut out and rotting flesh, it's all good.  Female Tauren look a lot better/nicer than I thought they would.

My fiance and I are having fun with a warrior/mage.  She does high damage, I do major tanking.
31  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WoW: Your PvP Encounters on: December 05, 2004, 07:02:39 PM
Though I played in the big PVP battle last night, my first PvP blood came when I was taking a quest out in Stonetalon when I saw a level 25 NE warrior come up to a quest giver.

Though I was just a level 21 Tauren warrior, I couldn't let that go.  I gave him the ol' charge, hamstring, toss a stick o dynamite out (Engineer) and a warstomp to keep him from leaving.

He ignored me at first, probably because I was the same class and lower level.  In fact, he ended up killing that poor quest giver.  I'd gotten quite a bit of rage built up by this point however and, regardless of the 4 level difference, I beat him down.

My fiance (Erinyes, undead Mage) ended up helping kill a skull (can't see level) who was running away as well as another one in a small skirmish.  Later she ended up in Alliance lands and killed the Absent Minded Prospector with a single pyroblast.  That quest is a PITA for Night Elves to do (usually group of 5 and takes forever to escort a weak NPC through tough creeps) so she got rushed by a mob of angry Night Elves.  She swam deep into the sea (Undead water breathing!) and a druid with water form attempted to keep up... but failed once she drank her swift swim.

All this on the PvE server.

According to imdb, the 20 minutes restored is the Furyan storyline.

That's right, the PG-13 version doesn't talk much about Furyans apparently.  Instead of the 20 minutes of more effects and interesting things the plotline is reduced to a line or two between some Necromongers.  There's still some scenes left in, but I think if they'd released the director's cut instead of the watered down theatrical edition the movie would have done much better.

It's much much easier once you're higher and I've been able to click very slowly without losing fish.  Get a 10 cp bauble or do a quest that nets ya one like Gubber Blump (I think he mails you one a few days after the quest is complete)

After you raise your skill you'll be good at catching things.

I think that not every raid instance will be AOE based.  They'll all be varied as some of the instance boss/experience have been.  So Mages, Rogues, and Hunters (The DPS classes) will be all useful in massive battles. They each have some different abilities to bring to the table.  Just make sure your tank knows how to tank :-)
40  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / haha @ WOW on: November 26, 2004, 12:18:31 AM
As far as easy leveling, Blizzard plans a lot of raid content.  The earliest raid content (Onyxia) is for level 60's.  With this in mind, leveling fastish is to be expected so people can end up participating in it all.  Leveling slows down a bit at some of the higher levels, but it's fun always.

Back to the topic at hand, with a free trial extension for the people who had accounts in the downtime I think Blizzard has all their bases covered.  I'm perfectly happy with their solution and can't think of other companies that have done such a thing, can anyone else?
