1  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [XBL] 1 vs 100 - the show is over! on: July 16, 2010, 02:18:56 AM
Bummer this got canceled, was a good bit of fun. And it was free. I take heart in the fact that the team is working on more projects though.
2  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: XBOX Kinect on: June 14, 2010, 11:02:25 PM
Between the price, and the fact the area I game in just isn't that large, I'm out on Kinect, doesn't help all the games mentioned so far are underwhelming to me.

Now a new slimmer, quieter xbox is something I can get behind.
3  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: MW2 Map Pack - coming March 30th on: March 15, 2010, 07:08:31 AM
At $15 bucks I'm out, at $10 I would of been happy, but this is Activision charging more because they think they can get away with it, and I'm saying no.
4  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Re: Black Friday 2009 on: November 26, 2009, 02:13:32 PM
Only gaming related thing I'm gunning for tomorrow is Rock Band: Special Edition for $50 dollars at Wal-Mart. And hopefully they have a few good $7 or $10 games though I'm not betting on it. Hopefully Wal-Mart isn't crazy busy, though with the whole waiting in the store thing it shouldn't be too bad.
5  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Modern Warfare 2 Impressions [And official GT Review] on: November 15, 2009, 08:25:53 AM
Need to stop playing Team Death Match, too many people are camping. There would be minutes where there was no noise at all, no bullets, no grenades, nothing, just peace. And with every map having so many nooks and crannys for people to hide in, it gets really old, really fast to turn a corner and be shot by someone hiding. I know it's a valid strategy, but when everyone does it, it takes from the fun.
6  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Modern Warfare 2 Impressions [And official GT Review] on: November 12, 2009, 03:17:48 AM
One thing I recommend is to take a rocket launcher as a secondary, really useful for shooting down helicopters and the such.

Also was very glad to find out that kills by the killstreak rewards, don't count towards your killstreak. Found out after a helpful supply drop gave me a pavelow chopter which killed about 10 people.
7  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Halo: ODST Impressions? on: September 24, 2009, 02:54:16 AM
I was pretty bummed when I found out Firefight had no matchmaking. I work second shift, and by the time I get home, my friends list is pretty dead. The game is good, and since I long ago sold Halo 3, it's a good deal with Halo 3's multiplayer, and all the downloadable maps.

If you've also purchased Freespace 2, you may as well go here: http://www.fsoinstaller.com/, get FSOInstaller, and enjoy the original with all the visual splendor of its sequel and then some.

Bought Freespace 2 in this sale, and applied the graphical update from fs open, and it looks quite good. Running it at 1920 x 1080 really helps since the text was unreable on my monitor at it's normal resolution.

Also is there any chance this could because of vista? Any chance that downgrading to XP might help?

I have a pci-e slot.
11  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: When was the last time you: on: August 05, 2009, 06:51:23 PM
Played a Console Game:

Last night, Magic the Gathering on the 360

Played a PC Game:

Couple of weeks ago, WoW

Played a Handheld Game:

Last weekend, Shin Megami for the DS

Played a Game in an Arcade:

Maybe a month ago at a casino

Completed A Game (played it through to the end credits) Any Platform:

Frontlines Fuel of War, beat it last weekend

Gave Up on a Game in Frustration (never to play it again):

Shin Magami has given me a couple of these, but I keep going back. Escort missions are awful no matter the game.

Had One of Those OMG THIS IS TEH AWESOME Moments:

Nothing lately, hopefully this fall has something.

Thought About Quitting the Hobby Altogether:

Never, interest will wane, but I've never thought of quitting.

Bought a New Full Game:

Street Fighter 4, last week.

Bought a used game:

Infinite Undiscovery. last week. Same shopping trip as SF 4.

Bought a new peripheral:

I don't buy many peripherals, so the last would be a long time ago.

Bought a new console/pc for gaming:

Got a new 360 a few weeks ago after previously selling mine a year and a half ago.

Joined a new gaming forum:

I pretty much just lurk most forums.

Changed your Gamer Tag or Moniker (console or PC):

A few years ago, I went from this to the nyge, but nymanium still floats around.

Were Totally Unexpectedly Blown Away by a Game:

Portal, it was the part of the Orange Box I expected the least from, and it blew me away.

Were Totally Unexpectedly Disappointed by a Game:

Left 4 Dead, coop zombie killing game from valve sounded great. And it was fun, til I got burned out playing the beta, just not enough variety, hopefully 2 solves that.

Sadly I have no way to try a nvidia card, though I would like to try that myself.
13  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Graphic Corruption issue on: July 30, 2009, 06:20:39 AM
Nope, other than I sorta fixed the issue by buying a Xbox 360. That and overtime at work are eating what little free time I have.
14  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Graphic Corruption issue on: July 19, 2009, 07:21:44 AM
I have run memtest, but not nearly as long as overnight, I'll give that a try. And sure enough when I go beack to desktop it's fine. Thanks for all the help so far.
15  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Graphic Corruption issue on: July 19, 2009, 06:23:45 AM
Aero is why the desktop was having the same issue after leaving a game, disabling it didn't stop the graphical issue though. I run 64 bit Vista, games range from WoW to TF 2 to Prototype to Peggle. Got a core 2 duo, a 4670 4 gigs of ram, and a asus p5q pro mobo.
16  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Graphic Corruption issue on: July 19, 2009, 02:36:46 AM
Sorry for the late replies, work has me working overtime, not leaving me much free time. I've tried another 4670 by a different maker, same issue. I have flashed the mobo since this started to the latest and it didn't fix it. I don't overclock. Any chance it could be the audio? I also don't have access to another graphics card sort of buying another one, and don't want to go that route.

Also I tried using a program called game booster that supposed to shut down unneeded background task, and while the graphical thing still happened, it didn't spread to my desktop like normal. Then when I turned it off, the desktop went too. Apparently Desktop Window Manager Session Manager is what triggers it. What that means, or how to fix it I have no idea.
17  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Grudge Match: Warhammer vs. World of Warcraft on: July 17, 2009, 09:15:53 AM
War has great early levels and a meh endgame. WoW has a meh early game, and I don't know how the end game is, I get burnt out doing yet another kill x, got to y, quest and end up quitting. War had some great ideas, but runs out of steam, while WoW is feeling like a 5 year old game at this point, new mmo's have improved on the formula, shame none have the polish of WoW.
18  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Warhammer Online Producer's letter on: July 17, 2009, 09:09:51 AM
War did a lot of things right, sadly most of those things were in Tier 1. By tier 4 the game just stops being fun. If mythic puts in a way to stop xp so I can just play tier 1 forever, I'd gladly resubscribe.
19  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Graphic Corruption issue on: July 17, 2009, 07:52:16 AM
It's happened every since I built it.
20  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Graphic Corruption issue on: July 17, 2009, 05:17:44 AM
So I did a wipe and reinstalled. No dice, still have the same problem. And I did install the official 9.6 driver.
21  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Graphic Corruption issue on: July 16, 2009, 03:49:37 AM
Harddrive is less than a year old, nothing wrong with it from what I can tell. I did run some test one it, forgot the name of it, and it came through clean. I run vista 64 bit, and I'll try purging the graphic drivers and reinstalling, if I need to do a clean wipe I can, it's annoying but not that big of an issue.
22  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Graphic Corruption issue on: July 16, 2009, 01:18:47 AM
l I got another power supply, and the same thing happened. I've tried both a 650w and 400w psu, and I use a radeon 4670. Also got a core 2 duo and an asus p5q motherboard.
23  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Graphic Corruption issue on: July 12, 2009, 08:12:07 AM
Drivers are all up to date. I hadn't thought of the power supply, any way to test it short of getting a new one, and see if that fixes it. Also just for a change of pace, the graphic corruption happened while I was just browsing around my hard drive.
24  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Graphic Corruption issue on: July 12, 2009, 04:38:42 AM
My system has had a problem with the graphics becoming corrupted while playing games. http://yfrog.com/0cwowscrnshot071209003125j is an example. It happens randomly, I've determined it's not the video card, sent it back, new one has same problem, it's not a heat issue, and the ram and hard drive are fine. Odd thing is after leaving the game the desktop looks like that, as will anything else I do, needing a restart or going into and out of sleep mode to get things back to normal. Also I can play for hours and hours and never have the problem, or it could happen every hour, no ryhme or reason from what I can tell.

This thread represents pc gaming quite well. The mere mention of turning off a core to play a game gives me the chills.

Maybe this weekend will be the time I get around to playing it since I bought it during the last time it was the weekend sale.
28  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Left 4 Dead. You are not ready. on: November 18, 2008, 07:28:34 AM
I'm probably going to grab it at circuit city since they have it on sale for $40. Still want some impressions, I loved the demo, but I am afraid that what's in the demo is all that's in the game, minus some new maps.
29  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Red Alert 3 Goes Gold! on: October 31, 2008, 04:35:57 AM
Tempted to get this, loved the 2nd, and I really dig the whole cheesy live action stuff. Still waiting on some more impressions on how it stacks up.
30  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Resistance 2 revealed (8 player co-op, 60 player multiplayer) on: October 24, 2008, 03:44:33 AM
I have an extra beta code I'm not using, so if anyone wants it, first pm gets it. Gone.
31  Non-Gaming / Trading Forum / Re: Does anyone happen to have a spare crossfire bridge? on: October 21, 2008, 05:29:38 AM
Appreciate you looking just curious if you found it?
32  Non-Gaming / Trading Forum / Does anyone happen to have a spare crossfire bridge? on: October 16, 2008, 07:03:23 PM
I'm planning on adding another card to crossfire to get some more performance from my system, but don't have a bridge. So just wondering if maybe someone bought a card and has a spare crossfire bridge they have no intention of using. I'd pay shipping of course.
33  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: How does this configuration look? on: September 28, 2008, 03:57:46 AM
I'm only going with that psu, since the case and it only come to 120. Meaning I'm basically getting both for 60 each. And after doing some reading I'm wondering, would it be better to get a cheaper cpu and put that into a better graphics card, at least for gaming?
34  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: How does this configuration look? on: September 28, 2008, 12:54:21 AM
Honestly, I hadn't thought of going amd, everything I had heard said intel was the way to go, then again most people on tech forums only like the fastest most expensive, while I'm looking on getting the most for my money. I'm all ears on how they compare.
35  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / How does this configuration look? on: September 27, 2008, 08:57:15 AM
Getting a new computer and thinking of going for these parts:
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz
Mobo: ASUS P5Q Pro LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard
Memory: G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066
Dvd drive: ASUS 20X DVD±R DVD Burner
Case: Antec Three Hundred Black ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
Power Supply: Antec True Power Trio TP3-650 650W ATX12V SLI Certified CrossFire Ready Active PFC Power Supply
Video: Ati 4670

And then later on I plan on getting another 4670 to crossfire with, would do it now, but need to keep the cost low. So how does this look.
36  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Gamefly kind of sucks on: September 26, 2008, 03:01:08 AM
I tried the free trial. Got the first ones quick enough, now at day 4 of having shipped them back and just got the notice of them mailing out my next. My 3rd and 11th games in my queue, despite my first and second being available. Will definitely cancel after the free month.
37  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Using LCD tv as a computer monitor. on: September 22, 2008, 03:28:58 AM
I got a 32" Olevia tv, and I'm wondering if it would make a decent pc monitor for gaming on. My only worry is that the native resolution of 1366 x 768 would be bad for gaming.
38  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Computer clicks then freezes. on: September 21, 2008, 02:23:24 AM
Since my hard drive had a complete failure I'm guessing that was it, lucky enough I had a old 20 gig hard drive sitting around to at least get it working again. Been meaning to get a new computer this winter, but just might move it up.
39  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Computer clicks then freezes. on: September 20, 2008, 07:18:52 PM
Noticed that while trying to play Baldurs Gate 2, a game my pc can more than handle, my system after anywhere from as soon as the game starts to an hour in, makes a single click sound and then freezes. Noticed even some simple casual game do the same thing, anyone have any idea what the problem could be? Also after some testing it seems only games that are full screen cause it.
40  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: SPORE Impressions on: September 14, 2008, 04:08:12 AM
The cell stage was fun, unfortunately my computer restarts when trying to go to the creature stage. Apparently it's a common or if not common at least a few more people than me, seems it might have something to do with ati drivers, apparently installing omega drivers fixed it for one person. I remember now why I got out of pc gaming, I just want to play a game when I buy it, not jump through hoops trying to get it working while waiting for a patch.
