Ok Im in the same boat and need advice. i beta'd the game but never bought it. Now I have the free version and need starting info help. The classes/races I really wanted are not part of the f2p version. Like I wanted to be a golem guy warrior..cant...wanted to be a monk...cant.......so what do I do? I dont really worry about solo play because as i recall it was a group based game. my worry is each class was expected to know each dungeon and do their part at the right place / time or get bitched at.
Would a caster of some type be best or a melee type? ...race?
Also a server i should play on? I picked the recommended one..Orien or something..can still change I think. And how many characters do we get?
i think 2 characters per server unless you are premium then you get 4 (iirc) trying to restart the wanderer guild on khyber (pm me your toon name if interested) - we try to favor runs occassionally to get to 400 favor so you can get the free drow for that server... highly recommend the ddo class forums to get some ideas for max/min builds for 28point toons (what you get to start --- later you can unlock 32point toons) i am using this one as a guide for my dwarven barb http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=116814there are others that are well thought of... check out the class forums for more ideas. http://forums.ddo.com/forumdisplay.php?s=b5c0dc2aa01c6ec9f21839502624c8de&f=21

New to the game (only played in the recent beta - got a dwarf champ upto 15th level in the last month or so - now i wish i did warden which is now unavailable to ftp)... i am not sure if i got a premium account from being in the beta or if it was from me being in DDO as a premium. I remember talk of turbine points being awarded to beta players - did that happen? (i got zero). I received several cards which have codes for Turbine Points in LOTRO. As soon as I verify they can be used on existing accounts and not new accounts only, we'll have a few giveaways. is there a sign up list? sign me up please As a tip to ftp only players... if you stay in the intro area until level 5 (iirc its a 5th level quest) there is a 10tp bonus quest (once per server - in archet it is given in the hunting lodge)... for those looking to grind out tp points instead of paying - its an easy way to add 10*number of servers tp to your total (just don't buy the item that the 10tp quest provides )

last three races of the season start on tuesday... probably a good time to test out if you like the game We save spots on the team for regular posters here at GT and at OO Our team helps new people and returning vets and we have 3 spots available (if you played in the past and were confused about how to get the most out of your car and money - i put out a "cheatsheet" each season to help out the team) referral link (gives me some credits and puts you on my top of my list of people I help ) http://www.gpro.se/?id=19080non referral link http://www.gpro.seThe surviving members of our last recruitment drive are solidly in amatuer and on their way to pro (except one who will be promoting to amateur in a fairly strong position)

so, anyone catch this tonight? Part one was on tonight (I imagine it will be on Netflix instant too soon if not already) but I haven't had a chance to watch it yet. the previews looked good, and it's got Ian McShane, even though I doubt he character will be going on about cocksuckers It was pretty good... regarding your last part - I find it hard to believe that someone has not put up some "modified" scenes from this series with some overdubs from the cocksucker series.

last two races of the season start tomorrow... still looking for someone to fill a spot on the team - looking for long time members from here or OO.
also a reminder to people that stopped playing - if you put your car in one of these last two races it will keep your account allive for next season if you decide to play otherwise it will likely reset if you are at the lower levels and havent raced in a while.
Tokek (i think) is in the running for team roty - keep up the good work!

Just a reminder that the new season has started and our team has been doing pretty decent... most of the new players have either promoted to amatuer or are well on their way to promotion in their second season... no spots on the team at this point (and those spots are reserved for long time members of OO and GT) but if you use my referral link (up above) - I will do my best to help you in the game (if you don't click the referral link - I will do my best to help you in the game when i am not helping the people that clicked it ) feel free to pm me or post here with questions (I also enjoy helping players pick out new drivers) - if you post with a question be sure to copy all relevant info associated with the question. Even though we are on race 5 of the season - it is a good time to join since there are often plenty of good drivers available and there is no crazy bidding wars... so give the game a shot if you like racing management games (and only want to start out with a 2 hour time commitment per week) ps - clanwolfer - you might be in danger of losing your sponsors if you miss a third race... if you can't log in to setup the car try to login to put it on holiday to jan or dave (i am currently watching someone elses acct)

tried it for the weekend... i liked the older soccor manager games where you could sim through time faster...
this one even during the off-season you had to press continue for each week during the offseason (reading emails and stuff)
I like being more of a handsoff day to day operations coach/gm (pick the overall team strategy, pick up players for that strategy, and then automate through the majority of the season).
If it was $10, i probably would have bought it...

uh...they just got 8.4 million. i think they are good for a few years.
You'd be surprised how quickly that much money can go away. Even if you only have 20 people on staff, say they average a salary of 50k, you're spending a million dollars a year just on salaries. Then you have to take into account computers and other equipment, software licenses, building maintenance, etc etc. Certainly $8.4 million is a good amount of money, but if you start growing the team or have more senior level people with higher salaries or need to delay release you can see that quickly getting eaten up. but, eh - if they have been bought, shouldnt their paychecks come from Perfect World? That is what I was thinking - The next time you see someone daintily stepping out of his Ferrari, wearing a baggy fur track suit and unaware of the effect his lordly display of emerald necklaces hung from his ten normal fingers plus his golden extra robot finger is having on all the fine, foxy people... it will be Travis? stolen from... http://www.oldmanmurray.com/news/258.html

As in Abraham? Is there one where I can be the leader and have my military and such but not control them directly? Do as Lincoln did and just give my generals orders and let them carry them out as they wish? More a macro thing than a micro thing. Real time but more hands off? Heck even a civil war game like that would be fine that sounds like it would be a fun game --- maybe even shades of the original majesty game (put rewards on the map and eventually one of the hero/generals will decide it sounds like a good idea to go do something about it) I have often thought a game in which you recruit generals and tell them "this is the objective I wish you to get and here are how many resources I will allow you to spend to get it" - would be cool (i thought it might be an inbetween step to better AI for games - since so many do a poor job of assembling viable stacks)

are you sure of that? I always thought that the expansions required civ4? btw - i am thinking about getting the complete version via steam to gift but keep colonization... does anyone here consider colonization a good game or is it simply an expansion in sheep's clothing?

I didn't like that version of Two-Face much anyway, so I hope he is dead.
whaaaa? I was really surprised how great that role was pulled off... with all the press about the joker being in the film i didn't expect a whole lot of two face story. In my first viewing, when it looked like there was going to be a significant two-face story I started to roll my eyes (thinking this can not end well). I was astonished that it came out so well. if Ledger had not died, I think it might have been noticed more. Ledger was over the top fantastic as the Joker... Two-Face was near equally well done in my opinion (not counting the horrifically bad choice of story line regarding which friend batman was going to save and the stupid boat choice showdown)

While you may be able to demonstrate a pattern, you're going to have a hell of a time proving intent, and stepping into a sparring situation means that you are accepting a foreseeable risk, just as if you get hit by a foul ball by going to a baseball game. I don't see the cops doing squat without an obvious act or statement of intent. (IANAFL).
if you are sitting behind the fence and there is a big hole in the fence and the ball hits you in the eye... what then? if you are "touch" sparring and one of the participants has a history of "mistakes" what then? the sensei is the fence...

Notrich, how many more races do I have to do for you to get the referral credit (assuming that's how it works)? Also, would it be better if I left the team now to make room for Tokek?
17 total for me to get one race credit - but don't even worry about it (when you purchased credits for the first time only I got some credit as well - if you had stuck around to purchase more credits I wouldn't have gotten any more except when you hit a race milestone)... you are welcome to stay as long as you like, but if your mind is completely made up then leaving early wouldn't hurt anything (assuming tokek can jump onto the team before the next race). thanks again for all that you did this season! (let me record your point contribution from the team profile page before you leave if possible) Manager name Group Contribution Huw Rookie - 120 8% (1.2%) current team stats before the start of race 12 Season position: 172 Season points: 178.5336 Huw contributed 14.28 points to the team total points this season - thanks huw! Team's highest scoring season Season # Final position Points total Season 15 317th 169.7998 Because of your help this season huw we are guaranteed to score the most points in the history of the team (which we have already achieved) Even if you leave the team - i hope that you put 500's in to save your personal time and to build up some cash and then try to go out in a blaze of glory in the last 3 races (without knowing all the details here is a suggestion - buy an almost new car for this rain race and try to do well for this rain race... then spend almost no time but put 500's in for a few races and then buy a level 3 car around race 15 or 16 and then focus on those last 2-3 races to do as good as you can)

My friend and I are still pretty active, if you have 2 slots open, we can probably fill it.
Will let you know... if we have additional openings. BTW... this next race is VERY low tire wear AND VERY low fuel... I don't have data for rain tires on this track but with low risks and some luck there MIGHT be the possiblity of a no stop at this track... rain tires at a minimum should last 250km here i would imagine... i have some tracks at higher wear that suggest that rain tires could last 390km a safer strategy would be to consider a short first stint 17-25 laps and a looooong second stint - by pitting early you should have a better qual time than you would with a fuller load AND you should be able to pass the heavier load cars in the early part of the race when they pit after you. since there is a slight chance of start/stop of rain = I would recommend the safer strategy of an early pit 1 stop (definitely use a higher block percentage than you normally do --- if normal is 10-20 then use 20-30)

With regret, I'm going to have to pull out when the first season is over. I'm really enjoying the game but I just can't devote the time it needs. Right now, at 16:12 on a Sunday afternoon, I have my first opportunity to play games all weekend, and it will last until somewhere between 16:30-17:00. I might be able to make a tiny bit of progress in Distant Worlds or make some resources for Sleep is Death if I'm lucky. My lack of time means that all I get to do with GPRO is, the night before a race, I run through seven test laps and tweak the car setup. Most times I don't even have time to properly calculate fuel usage. Then I just let it go and watch as I earn another 12-15 position in the race. It's a great game but you can't devote half an hour a week to it - and to be fair, Notrich, you did warn me of that. I thought I could manage more but I can't. It's a great shame because I didn't really think I'd like it, not being a fan of F1 at all, but I've played a lot of browser games and GPRO is easily the most gripping and involving of them all. I'll see the season out but that'll be it for me - just thought I'd give you plenty of notice to get the team position filled. Thanks for all the help and advice; I wouldn't have lasted more than two races without it. thanks for the heads up and sorry it didn't work out for you... a half hour might be a little too short, but should be doable at lower levels IF you know the game inside and out... an hour a race at the lower levels (especially using the GO tool) might be a more reasonable target for newer people (this varies for the individual of course). It is ok to spend less time on some races and more time on others, unlike alot of browser games one of the reasons I like THIS one is they don't hold you hostage to your computer all day (having to login to make trades or fight wars on an hourly basis can be grueling and impossible unless you work at a cool place that lets you do that sort of thing.) With this game you can login twice a week or twenty times a week - it all depends on your goals. another option is to spend near zero time on half the season - and then focus on doing well the last half of the season (or vice versa focusing on first half and then smoking the rest of the season) - while this is a viable strategy in rookie and amatuer, it is more boring. Definitely want to thank you for giving it a go... you were one of the reasons that we had a full team this season AND one of the reasons we will be scoring the most points ever for the team. If you are short on time for a race - just put all 500's and let the car smoke (we will still get some team points and you will still get some decent money in rookie - then save up some cash to blow on parts and go out in a blaze of glory at the end of the season ) Regarding fuel calculation... did you have the guidelines based on track type that i sent out awhile ago? Using these numbers and then adding or subtracting a little bit (.05?) based on your historical data should make your life ALOT easier (rain uses less fuel so use the adjustment that i sent in the ingame email for this next race) Fuel KM/L Very High = 1.1 High = 1.2 Medium = 1.3 Low = 1.4 Very Low = 1.5 your driver and car will affect these AND it is always better at the lower levels to add another 10+ liters for the final stint in case something odd happened. For this next full rain race - beware the tricks of having to RE-select your rain tires for Q2 and Race setup start! Thanks again! (if anyone is looking to try out the game - click on the referral in the first post to give me a little credit OR just go to the regular gpro site and sign up... racing in the last half of the season can give you an idea if you like the game and IF you do like the game you will be better prepared to give a shot at promotion in your first full season) ps - the team is more about individual improvement and not about being competitive on a world-wide basis... if there are any existing players from this site in the game that might be interested in joining the team (even if only for a season or two) drop a pm here

Give a shout if you have any questions and I will see what i can do about answering them... feel free to post your driver stats if you want suggestions on how to train or suggestions for new ones (this is a great time in the game to pick up a new driver since most of the contracts have ended for new players)
I actually do need to find a new driver, what stats should I look at? I'm thinking the important ones are Concentration and Talent, am I correct? Should I start at the 59- overall category and train the driver or should I hire one already slightly higher up? depends on if you want to play for "right now" or for the future... pm me your in game name and I will send some links to you to drivers... You can find good drivers to train in the sub-75 range (this way you don't get caught up in the bidding frenzies that occur in rookie 80-85OA range.... you want the cheapest highest talent lowest aggression highest charisma lowest weight driver you can find for a long term training or highest concentration/talent/stamina lowest aggression and weight driver for trying to promote asap edit --- i see your pm now... Gotcha. Well, I couldn't care less about achievements and from your posts here and in the game it sounds like you don't think a great deal of my driver. I think I'll try and get into amateur with him and then start sniffing around for a new driver with better talent. Thus I will not invest too much in the current guy's training.
I can't believe how much fun I'm having with the game though. I wish I could spare more time on it; I'm definitely not making the most of available data and not taking detailed enough notes (although that magnificent GO app does a lot of this for me - I actually donated a few quid to the developer, he richly deserves it).
GO really makes life ALOT easier for both the casual and non-casual player. Your driver is fine... sorry if i gave that impression (i have a tendency to take the extremely long view in this game ). His BIG negative is talent (a stat that NEVER changes either with the experience of training or racing). There are many that play the game that think talent ONLY comes into play in rain races. (I am not one of them - there are some people in the game who might think you have the best driver possible for rookie/amat) His second negative is his salary. It isn't horrible now but it can balloon up over time. His big plus is concentration - you should have no need to train yoga at all until you reach pro (if you get that lucky ) Since you have made the decision to keep your driver, I say go for it as long as you have fun with him (if he happens to kick butt in amatuer - keep him - if not look around for another driver)... you will have a better chance of kicking butt with him in amatuer if you train fitness every race (getting 2 stamina per training means in 30ish races your stamina will be 60ish - that value of stamina will go a LONG way in helping you succeed in amat). If you train fitness all season with him and then go -$15M to get his OA below 85 (before the last race) and then start with the level 1 car again next season BUT with the same driver that has 17 races of more experience and training... I think you would dominate rookie in S20. That would give you a bunch of cash and you would probably be able to build a decent level 5 car so that you would enter amatuer with some real power. Since you have stated you don't want this to be a promotion season, this will make it easy for you to maintain a positive balance so that you can train your driver every race (very important). Just maintain a lower level car to ensure a positive cash flow. Also since you magically get money again at the beginning of every rookie season, I would take the opportunity to test your car as often as you can manage (due to the stamina gain you will get for your driver - which shows up AFTER the race following a car test session). Good luck - I am really curious to see how he works out for you.

Pro is an entirely different beast. Holy crap.
VERY true... back in amatuer there were huge time differences between cars. In pro, often large portions of the top half of the field is within a few seconds (the blocking trains) There are four or five guys in my group whose times just cannot be touched by most of us. They must be people who improved their cars and drivers all through last season but stayed in rookie. It happens, I suppose. I'm looking forward to next season where I'll be one of those guys!
on reset - all things go back to level 1 - when you advance to amatuer (or any level) - your part levels stay with you always... you only keep your driver if he is under contract and 85 or below. the reason to stick around in rookie to train your driver is that you get free money and you can build driver stats (even the untrainable ones like experience) - you would want to line up multiple contracts and be sure your OA is under 85. Reminder - you said you have already signed your driver to an extension - don't forget to sign him to another extension after the current contract ends In your particular case huw, your driver is one that is not typical of the "training" drivers (you can build his stamina through car tests and fitness - also IIRC you will want to boost your charisma - the downside is low talent which might make him unattractive for higher level leagues but could do very well rook/amat (and possibly decent in pro if you built his stamina over 100 - but its one of those things where you have to decide if you want to train a low talent driver for 3 seasons or a high talent driver.) at the very least you could take that driver with you into amat and then find a great deal on another driver or try and see if he can get you to pro (after a few seasons your driver will become too expensive if you keep resigning him) OR you could keep him down in rookie as long as you like and unlock a bunch of achievements (whatever you have most fun with )

Well, the second race is looking slightly more promising. I must have learned a lot from the first race, because I'm currently 5th on the starting grid with probably only three more people to qualify. I've also told my driver to take small risks this time. There's no way I'll get a podium finish but I'll be very happy if I get some points at least. I've said it before and I'll say it again - I can't wait to watch the race! Edit: Looks like it'll rain at the start of the race but won't last long. Do I start with rain tyres or not? My pit stops take in excess of 20 seconds so I'm thinking I should just start on dry...? that is a reasonable strategy to try with this race (5-10% chance to start raining in the first half hour followed by 0% chance)... it is reasonable, but it is a GAMBLE. If you start on dry's and it rains for 30 minutes - no crying! if it rains less than 5 laps at the start - it will be a HUGE bonus for you. if it rains longer than 10 laps - you will be very sad (though it is too late for this race) a safer strategy is light fuel (anticipate 15 laps or less) so you can get a better qual but if it rains long - you will be happier (if it rains short you might be disappointed but seldom would you be very sad) ALSO - don't forget to make the rain to dry adjustment in your setup (sent via pm in game)
