I'm not saying that the rune looking thing isn't from Frostmourne.  But could it also be an artist's signature?
2  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / How I made 300 gold in WoW at level 36 on: February 15, 2006, 06:08:05 PM
i've just recently discovered the joys of Shadow Fang Keep.  apparently, the mobs are at just the right level such that they drop items in the 16-19 level range.  in other words, perfect for folks who want to twink their characters for the 10-19 level battlegrounds.  in three days, i've made over three hundred gold selling various greens and blues.  the real money makers for me were from these drops (sold for 100g each): Assassin's Blade and Shadowfang.

this experience has gotten me to thinking that maybe i should be running the Stormwind Stockades or Razorfen Kraul instances to see what they yield.
3  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / How I made 300 gold in WoW at level 36 on: January 06, 2006, 05:42:13 PM
i can't believe someone actually paid 300g for the whelpling.  i've actually managed to get an emerald one and a crimson one (from the wetlands) to drop.  and, my gf and her roommate also each got  an emerald and a dark (from duskwallow marsh) to drop.  we've either been extremely lucky or the drop rates must be slightly higher on our server, thunderlord.

anyways, glad to hear that you got such a nice price for your whelpling!

there's also a timed quest that you can get from a guy on the thandol span.  look for him on the broken bridge.  it's quite the leap, but you can make it.
7  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WoW - Did you buy a pet? on: January 31, 2005, 05:17:32 PM
hey, i can make those!  here's a list of the various pets you can acquire and where to get them.  i got a tiny crimson whelp as a drop the other day and i've got to say that i'm pretty happy to get it.
8  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WoW custom interfaces on: January 26, 2005, 08:22:44 PM
i believe that's the default setting for nurfed's ui.  however, you can /autobar to toggle between the two settings, allowing the menu buttons to show.  i'm using a slightly older version that doesn't take away blizzard's artwork and i don't utilise the enhanced character protrait.  i've yet to use telo's bottombar but i could see that changing in the near future.

good hunting!
9  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / So, how many alts do YOU have in WoW? on: January 07, 2005, 05:37:37 PM
i've got two characters that i play a whole lot:

gorkha/kukri (pet), lvl 28 orc hunter (solo)
bedouin, lvl 25 undead rogue (group)

and several characters that i play off and on, with various other people when they're on:

sulphur/sputnik (pet), lvl 24 dwarf hunter
guerrilla, lvl 18 orc shaman
little, lvl 17 gnome rogue
droog, lvl 8 tauren druid
skirmish, lvl 6 night elf hunter
sundry, lvl 6 night elf druid

all of my characters are either on kil'jaeden (horde) or thunderlord (alliance).  i've got a few horde characters on whisperwind but haven't actually started any of them.
10  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WoW no fee Teusdays on: January 04, 2005, 07:49:10 PM
i've experienced the looting a resource bug a couple of times but it's always been the same flower or the same copper vein so i know to avoid these.  it's only a problem when i discover new bugged resources but it seems that logging out and back in fixes being stuck in the loot position.  and, to be honest, this has happened only once in a while so it hasn't been a source of constant annoyance.

and speaking of constant annoyances, damn, i don't wanna go to work today.
11  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WoW - The Rogue Class on: December 31, 2004, 04:16:32 PM
well, i'd originally planned to have gorkha (lvl 26), my orc hunter, be my high level, pvp character.  but after venturing into contested territory a few times and seeing just how effective a stealthed rogue can be, i started leveling bedouin, my undead rogue, who, i'm happy to say, is now lvl 19.

and so far (keeping in mind that i am in no way a rogue expert), it's been as you say: i deal a whole lot of damage really quickly and can handle most situations pretty effectively.  i haven't yet gained the vanish ability so i can't comment on that but i have been able to get away from a bad situation with ease by turning on evasion and sprinting away.  plus, starting out with a thrown weapon ability is just icing on the cake for me (i've always preferred playing a class that can deal out both ranged and melee damage).

one weakness that i've experienced so far is that, even with a reasonably buffed agility stat, my dual-wielding rogue will still often miss striking the enemy, sometimes several times in a row.  this can often result in some pretty hairy situations, especially when facing multiple mobs or adds.  but the flipside is that i seem to also have more success with criticals, dealing out a hundred to two hundred plus points of critical damage at a time when my strikes connect.

maintaining sufficient energy levels is another concern.  every fight results in me carefully timing my strikes, holding off on that backstab while my energy level replenishes.  this can often be a nerve-wracking experience.  but, thankfully, the energy bar seems to fill up pretty quickly, even during combat.

so, yeah, i've noticed how fun and effective a rogue can be.  i don't have plans to retire my hunter just yet but i can easily see my rogue becoming my main character.

80% of the players are undead?  really?  i would have thought that most folks would be night elves or humans.  but come to think of it, playing as horde, i do see a bunch of undead around orgrimmar.
14  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Help save Christmas! on: December 21, 2004, 10:32:13 PM
well, if you haven't been to orgrimmar before, you'll just have to make the run.  what level is your tauren?  i figure you've got to be at least 10, right?  just stick to the roads and you'll be fine.  oh, and by the way, orgrimmar is located in the northern part of durotar.  take the northern road out of the crossroads and then head east, towards far watch post and a bridge.  when you cross over into durotar, keep going east (following the road) until it forks northward (at razor hill, i think).  you can't miss it.

one more thing, be prepared for a mass snowball fight in orgrimmar!
15  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WoW and thier idiot quest programmer on: December 19, 2004, 08:33:40 PM
just did the deadmines instance/van cleef last night and man was it fun.  i couldn't believe the number of cool drops my group and i were getting.  plus, we all dinged (went in as 19s, came out at almost 21s).  in case anyone's interested, my group consisted of a paladin, priest, rogue and hunter and we were able to handle ourselves with very few problems (although Mr. Smite came close to wiping us all).  we are all very tempted to do it again!

19  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / How do I find a good guild in WoW? on: December 14, 2004, 07:04:04 AM
don't worry.  sooner or later someone will come along and offer you an invitation into their guild or ask you to sign a charter to form a guild.  of course, in either case, these people will most probably be strangers.  but it's a start.  and you can quit the guild anytime you want.  and sometimes people will offer incentives to help found a guild.  i've been given high level food as well as 10 silver just for signing, with no obligation to remain in the guild once it received enough signatures.
20  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Damn you all. Now Im going to buy WoW. on: December 13, 2004, 08:07:28 PM
regarding pvp servers, keep in mind that as long as you are in your faction's territory, members of the opposing faction cannot attack you unless you attack them first or aid another player who has their pvp flag on.  it's only in contested and enemy territory that you have to be careful.  and you probably won't be in those areas until your character is in the mid to high teens/twenties.  i've been taking my time with gorkha, my level 22 orc hunter, and have just now (within the last couple of levels) ventured into contested territory.  and even then i've felt relatively safe by turning on my track humanoid ability, staying off roads and trails and keeping my head on a swivel.  and i gotta say, it's pretty exciting to know that the enemy could be just around that bend or behind that hill over yonder.
21  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Rome: Total War question on: December 12, 2004, 09:25:05 PM
well, i played a little of shogun: total war and wasn't grabbed by it.  consequently, i passed on medieval: total war.  but for some reason, i decided to give rome: total war a shot and i'm sure glad i did.  i've had a total blast with it and haven't found the learning curve very steep at all.  i'd certainly recommed it even if you're new to the genre.  give it a shot!
22  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / How many copies has WoW sold so far? on: December 12, 2004, 04:24:29 AM

I went to the Nurfed site but could not find a place there to download the latest Nurf mod?

there are little icons just below the title of the site and one of them is a direct link to the download.  i'm really liking nurf's interface.  it's simple, doesn't clutter the screen and has all the features i was looking for.  however, i've yet to try any of the others.  but until i need more features, i imagine i'll be sticking with nurfed's.

My rogue is mining/engineering, mostly just for kicks. I like it a lot so far, there's a bunch of neat utility objects to use and lots of explosives of course.

i would think that engineering would be a good skill for a rogue to have mainly because you can make and use those goggles that allow you to see stealthed characters, which would be very handy in pvp.  and who better to fight a stealthed character than a stealther?  smile

you are a brave man to venture into enemy territory at level 8.  last night, on kil'jaeden, a whole mess of dirty alliance came down the gold road towards the crossroads.  gorkha, my level 15 orc hunter was out hunting with kukri, his raptor pet.  i counted no less then twenty or so of the enemy, all of which were much higher level (skull & crossbones) than i.  so i promptly yelled out a warning in general and then stood back and watched.  ain't no way i was getting into that fracas.  at the end of the battle, there were skeletons all over the place.  i know, 'cause i was watching from a safe distance!  smile

I'm not even sure why I would want to use one.  The WoW interface seems pretty polished to me.

i agree that the wow interface is great.  however, i'd like to have a few extra toolbars, the ability to notate my map, more visible buff timers and such.  i'm leaning towards ctmod but wanted to get a few opinions first.  smile

cosmos

ctmod

nurfed

gypsy

i haven't tried any of them yet but it's really only a matter of time before i do.  that said, for the folks who have tried them out, what are your opinions?  is one better than the rest?  more stable?  more functional?  what are your thoughts?

40  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Question about Gateway computer in Best Buy Black Friday ad on: November 25, 2004, 11:37:39 PM
five years ago, i bought a p3 500mHz, 128mb RAM, voodoo3, 20gig hard drive, etc. from gateway and was very pleased with it.  it was completely stable and i had absolutely no problems with it.  man, that computer ran every game i installed on it without a hitch.  good times.

but that was five years ago.  i'm not familiar with their current products.  so, i guess this testimonial isn't quite that helpful...
