i hate day 1 dlc as much as the next guy, but he doesn't understand that different groups get done with stuff before others. this game probably was content complete for months already.

Well, ME3 went gold last week, and today they leak the DLC which is already done.  And instead of offering it for all new copies of ME3, they want to charge an extra $10 for it?  EA is one greedy piece of work...

Pasadena is a nice area and can be a little pricey.  I live in Alhambra/Monterey Park, and for the most part, it's decent and not as pricey.
83  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Mass Effect 3 on: February 20, 2012, 06:54:11 PM
As far as I know, when you spend your points on the powers, they should be hotkeyed automatically.  I did run into a bug where my character's powers didn't show up on my hotkeys for a match, but once I restarted another match, it fixed itself.  For some reason, you can't reassign hotkeys nor assign them by dragging from the shift menu either.

On a side note, Overload seems like an overpowered ability. Using my human engineer or turian sentinel, I breeze through enemies.  The combat drone for the engineer helps so much as well. It's like having another player with you. My brother and I duoed bronze missions with two engineers easily even at lower levels.
84  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Mass Effect 3 on: February 18, 2012, 07:41:38 AM
I'm pretty sure it is random, because I've seen the final wave being kill the 4 high value targets or download data in my last two playthroughs.

Don't forget that this is only the demo and there is a lot more stuff in the final release of the game's multiplayer.  I'm sure they can add more levels as DLC too.
85  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Mass Effect 3 on: February 15, 2012, 01:08:29 AM
Hardcore combat difficulty was pretty tough.  Then again, I probably gimped myself playing as Vanguard and not pumping up shield strength.

Combat is really fast-paced and fun (when you aren't dying).  I want to try again as engineer and adept.  The engineer sentry turret looks like a lot of fun.

I agree that the running animations were a little weird.  I thought Anderson's running animation looked worse than fem Shep's.

The opening level was really epic with all the Reapers destroying everything!
Spoiler for Hiden:
It was really sad to see the little boy get into the shuttle and then watch it explode when the Reaper shot it. frown

You can set up a "stance" where if there is an enemy in your merc's vision cone, they will keep firing until the enemy is down.  I believe it is the defensive stance.  You can see them on the right side of the screen.

89  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Need advice/thoughts about IT career on: February 10, 2012, 02:43:00 AM
I hope to get some help trying to figure this out.  First a little backstory - I have a younger brother who I am trying to help get into school and hopefully an IT job.  He is turning 30 this month and he's never really had a chance to get into something he would like to do.  He worked various jobs like at EB/Gamestop and then at Countrywide right before the mortgage crash.  So for the past few years, he was trying to get into school and get a career started.  Well, time is running out since our household income is shrinking.  I think this is our last chance at righting the ship before it sinks.

So, I was doing a little research and thought that community college would be cheap and quick to get him something soon.  So my question is, would it be a good idea to get a CCNA or MCSE cert or do a 2 year AS degree in IT?  Pasadena City College offers both the certificate programs and the AS degree.  I want him to have the best opportunity at getting a good paying IT job ASAP.  Any thoughts and ideas are greatly appreciated.

Yeah, the only silver lining if the Pats had won would have been that Kraft would have something good come out of the past year. It's weird; as much as I hate the Pats, I like Kraft. He seems like a reasonable good hearted guy. Frankly, as happy as I am about the Giants victory, the Pats played a better game. Eli really got the victory for us, with an assist by Maningham with that catch. The Giants' play calling is astoundingly simplistic. They only want to run the ball up the miiddle the first two downs before letting Eli have a shot 3rd down when the defense knows we're going to pass. Plus, we have no secondary. Oh well, we still won, so that's all that matters tonight.

Yeah, I do like Kraft as well.  What a year to go through.

I hate Gilbride and hope we replace him in the offseason.  It felt like we gave the keys to a Corvette to a nine year old.  His play calling is a joke.
91  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: NFL 2011 Superbowl Discussion on: February 06, 2012, 04:28:36 AM
I disagree.  Brady looked pretty good in the 4th quarter, but his receivers dropped some crucial passes.  Welker and Hernandez lost them the game.

As a Giants fan, I am thrilled we won, but I felt really bad for Robert Kraft at the end of the game.  It must have been heartbreaking to come up short.

On a side note, I think that XLII was still a better game.  The last drive where the Pats let us score felt anticlimatic.

I haven't picked up the demo yet due to my mouse going back to Razer for repair, but I was concerned about something I read about BIA.  So apparently the player can now see all the enemies on the map before engaging them.  Did you guys notice that and did it detract from the game play at all?  I think being able to see all the enemies without a fog of war seems unrealistic.  Also, is the enemy AI any good?

The PC demo is available on Origin, and should be on Steam later today.

Considering that Origin is EA's direct competitor to Steam, I don't think EA would give the demo to Steam.  I looked up KoA on Steam and nothing is listed.  Same with BF3 and SWTOR.  Looks like you have to use Origin to get the demo.

They just added the full game preorder and the demo to Steam.  I'm not sure why, but the game isn't exclusive to Origin.

Wow, just saw that too.  I stand corrected!

It sounds like you should give a gift of something memorable like doing some event together.  For example, taking a cooking class together, going to a vineyard, or whatever else might be a memorable thing to do in your area.  Or go to a really nice restaurant?

Hope that helps give you some ideas! smile

Downloaded the Demo and played through the first and only demo mission "Foundries and Forges" with the Mage. Interesting twist on the tower defense genre.

I tryed the same mission as the squire and the first 99% was easier than the Mage but I could not kill the Ogre and actually failed as the Squire. The blockades do little to no damage and the Ogres club attack keeps it outside the range of the bouncer traps. The best weapon I found was about 18 or 20 damage with an upgrade and the Ogre has 5,000 hp. Whats the strategy for defeating the Ogre as a Squire?

The other classes are not available in the demo so have not had a chance to try them yet.

I forget how the squire plays at the low levels, but if you have access to the harpoon, you want to place it behind your blockade or bouncer.  Also, you can add some dps by attacking the ogre from behind so you don't die in two hits.  The squire used to be a powerhouse class, but the nerfs to his towers hurt a lot.  Most people play as the other classes.  If you have a mage and monk, you can complete most maps.

You can replace the motherboard without reformatting; however, I've always had problems with drivers not quite working correctly even after doing clean installs.  I would recommend reformatting for best results.

Yeah, there are a lot of impatient jerks that kick players without saying anything.  That's why I play with my friends or solo.

I do agree that the loot system is really weak.  At least everyone is rewarded on boss levels when the boss is defeated.  You automatically get an item deposited into your item bank.  Also, once you start upgrading your items, items that are better than your item won't have the green dot or arrows because the game bases the upgrade on your current item level rather than the base stats.  So you could potentially miss out on an upgrade if you don't compare every items that drops.  On insane difficulty, you usually won't have time to stop and look at every item that dropped.

Yeah, lots of idiots online who don't know etiquette. Had someone kick me for picking up crap items before they disappeared.

Actually, you don't want to pick up every item because when the combat round starts, all unpicked up items get automatically converted to mana and divided among the group.  So you are hurting other people by picking up items that aren't an upgrade.

So I finally have the money to upgrade my gaming rig and I want to do a complete new build.  I prefer Intel and nVidia components.  I started reading about the different chipsets and features and it's too much to sort through so I need some help!

Here are my guidelines:  I am planning to spend about $1,500.  Again, I prefer to stick with Intel CPU and nVidia GPU.  Also upgrading to Windows 7 64-bit.  Don't need a monitor right now, just the system.

Thanks!

Ok I have a question that I can't seem to figure out, how do you access the cases you solved to replay them again?  I didn't see any menu options.  Do you have to solve all the cases for the department first?

As soon as a case is finished, you have an option in the main menu called "Cases" which takes you to a place where you can select any finished case to replay.  You don't access it from the start menu.
The only thing I can do after a case is finished is it the 'A' button to close it.  I don't have any options to select it seems.  I just finished up all my traffic cases so far.

115  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: PC unable to boot (Vista 64) (Updated - still getting crashes) on: January 30, 2011, 11:27:31 PM
The PC boots fine, it just crashes when he plays WoW and only after he starts up from a cold boot.  I replaced the SATA cable when I installed the new hard drive.

Another thing that was weird as when I did the speed test for the hard drive from the device manager.  It was really, really slow.  Not sure what else I can install or what I need to adjust to fix it.  I didn't see any BIOS options to set for the hard drive.
116  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: PC unable to boot (Vista 64) on: January 30, 2011, 04:47:37 AM
Okay, so a week after installing the new hard drive, he is getting blue screen errors when playing WoW.  The original error that the old hard drive was giving is back.  I did a fresh install of Vista 64 on the new drive.  I'll list the specs of the PC:

Motherboard: Asus P5N-E SLI
Video card: GeForce 8800 GT x2 (SLI)
RAM: I'm not sure what brand it is, but I think it is Corsair and it's 4GB

I know for a fact that the old drive has serious issues, because when I plugged it into my PC, I would get lock ups trying to access the drive.  The thing that drives me nuts is that the new drive is getting this error.  I installed the lastest motherboard drives from Nvidia and I can't figure out how to stop these errors from coming up.

We've narrowed down the issue to come from when he uses IE and then starts up WoW, it crashes after 5 - 10 mins of playing.  But when he reboots and goes straight into WoW, no crashes for hours on end.  Any suggestions?
117  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: PC unable to boot (Vista 64) on: January 22, 2011, 09:08:37 AM
Well, after failing to install Vista, I noticed that the BIOS and Vista both were not seeing the HDD intermittently.  If I unplugged the SATA cable and plugged it back in, the BIOS would see it, but then the Vista installation would fail to see it again and upon reboot, the drive is again missing from BIOS.  I tried replacing the SATA cable with a new one, no change.

At that point, I decided that it must be a hardware issue and went out and bought a new HDD.  Installed the new HDD with no issue.  New drive is a Seagate Barracuda 1TB with 32 MB cache.  Old drive was a 120GB Western Digital Raptor.  I think the 10k RPM makes these drives more susceptible to failure since this was the second drive that died on me in a few years.  Oh well...
118  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / PC unable to boot (Vista 64) (Updated - still getting crashes) on: January 22, 2011, 12:53:15 AM
My brother's PC is having some issue where it won't boot up.  I tried booting from the Vista CD, but it is not loading.  There was one BSOD where it said "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" and an error about "nvstor.sys" so I tried looking these up on Google.  I saw similar issues, but nothing where the PC will not boot.  My brother said the last thing that happened was a Windows update and then it locked up.  Now, it will not boot.

Any suggestions on how to get the Vista CD to boot so I can reinstall it?
