Well, I turned off my Windows Sidebar and it took care of that flickering graphic glitch. I'm loving the game so far, but I have two minor gripes:

1. The NPCs are so lifeless. frown If you compare Fallout 3 to Mass Effect, it's like you are talking to robots. The voice acting is pretty good, but the NPCs' facial expressions (or lack thereof) don't quite match up.

2. When you strip down a corpse of its armor, the magical undershirt and boxers is a little jarring from the game. It's just kind of weird that some Raider would be wearing this stuff under their armor.  ninja

Anyone getting some weird graphical glich where the right side of your screen flickers and you can see your desktop background? It happened a few times and I have no idea what is causing it or how to fix it.

I think Lee reported having this issue over on OO, he thought it was related to the Windows Sidebar. Are you using sidebar? If you turn it off does the problem go away?

That's probably it. I haven't turned off the sidebar, but it's the exact dimensions of the sidebar that flickers in game.

I am running on Vista 64, 8800GTX in SLI, and 4 GB RAM. I have v-sync off and custom settings, but mostly in the high area. I'm using 1920x1200 resolution.

I'm trying out a talking character that can also hack and repair, so I tagged Speech, Repair and Science. I'll tell you that it is really hard when I get into some of the wasteland encounters. I think if you do want to see all the dialogue with a talker with low combat skills, make sure you have good sneaking.

The activities that are bugging me include FUZZ and Crowd Control.

And right now I'm flying level six of the trailer park Heli Assault. I'm stuck in a building, waiting for the van to die, but she's waiting for me, so we're in an endless loop. If I reset the 360 I lose all my progress since I haven't saved. Damn, damn, damn.

UPDATE: I did a save, right in the mission and reloaded that save. It put me back in my crib, but did save the first five levels I achieved in Heli Assault, thank goodness.

I found Fuzz and Crowd Control to be the most fun activities. Then again, I am playing co-op with my brother. It made Heli Assault so much easier since he concentrated on flying while I was the gunner and concentrated on blowing stuff up.

The trick to Fuzz is to make sure you use the weapon the camera guy says to use. He won't always recommend a specific weapon, but make sure you do use it when he says so. It will increase the footage meter quite a bit.

Crowd Control at the higher levels got quite challenging. It would get to a point where I was grabbing and tossing people and my brother would have to stand guard on the celebrity and swing away with the bat to keep the annoyance meter down.

Ok, couple of questions here.

1. How do you get past the upper levels of Mayhem? I am stuck on lvl 4.
2. How do you mug people?

There is certainly a ton of stuff to do in this game. I have barely scratched the surface.

For Mayhem, the best thing to do is combo as much as possible. The Factory district is great for this because the best thing to combo from is fences. If you get a heavy vehicle and just start running over fences, the combo meter will rocket up and the damage will increase quite a bit. Also, you should have unlimited RPG ammo at that point. Blow up as much stuff as possible to combo even more.

Hope that helps.

What graphical flaws did IGN mention? Was it for the PC version? I checked IGN's web site and only saw reviews for the UK version of Saints Row 2 for 360 and PS3.

173  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Want to have your own WOW raid? on: October 13, 2008, 04:31:30 PM
I saw a video of a guy who uses a program called octopus that basically allows you to control other accounts on other PCs from one PC. The guy completed Karazhan with a full group of 10 characters. I think he had a paladin tank, priest healer, and the rest shaman. The video was of Illhoof which can be a crazy fight for a normal raid.

Also, I've seen videos of one person controlling 5 shaman in PvP. You pretty much roll anyone you run into with 5 shocks and 5 lightning bolts/chain lightning. It was pretty stupid (and by stupid, I mean crazy).

176  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Should I ask for Fallout 3 for my birthday? on: October 11, 2008, 06:48:09 AM
Judging from your list, I'd say that you'd probably like Fallout 3. However, the zombies are more like mutants. There are no undead in the game. The zombies are 'ghouls' which are badly radiation burned humans. That being said, although the game can be played like a first person shooter, the VATS targetting system makes for a richer experience. It also helps to like a post apocalyptic setting.

Just got back after a full day of fun at Blizzcon. The wizard announcement was really cool. I'm partial to casting classes so that was a huge plus for me. smile

Anyway, onto the hands on for Diablo 3. First off, the lines were really, really long. It wasn't until 9PM when I could finally see a reasonable line for it. But the line went quick at about 20 - 25 mins. I tried out the brand new wizard class (only the female version was playable, guess they didn't have the male wizard animations in or something). The gameplay was very similar to Diablo 2 with the point and click interface. I have to say that the game is so smooth. The animations are very fluid and looked great. The graphics were pretty sharp and a huge leap up from Diablo 2.

We had about 15 minutes to play which really isn't that much time to get to the boss for the demo. The boss for the demo is good old Leoric from Diablo 1. Anyhow, they started us at level 5 with some predetermined skills already picked out. The first level point I got went right into disintegrate. If you watched the wizard intro, it's that red beam that the wizard shoots. It's a pretty fun skill. Seemed a little underpowered, but I was playing with my brother and my friend so three of us were in the game together which makes the mobs a lot tougher. The rune system is very cool though. Got a multistrike rune in my magic missile which gave 3 missiles instead of the one.

I'm going to be playing the witch doctor and barbarian tomorrow. If anyone has any questions, I'd be happy to answer them. smile

I'm just glad that there's not Fallout 3 sitting on store backrooms. Personally, I think having street dates that far in advance is lame. But I'm glad to hear this isn't the case.

Ok, so I've been seeing threads that stores have been breaking the street date for Fallout 3. I didn't know that Fallout 3 was even gold, let alone already sitting in store backrooms. WTF?

There are people already with Fallout 3 achievement points, according to this site: http://www.mygamercard.net/leaderboard.php?gt=&g=593&z=&c=&x=84&y=17

Well, with Saints Row 2 coming out next week, I find myself trying to determine which platform I want to get it for. Looks like it's much cheaper on the PC, but I kind of prefer to have the 360 controller for this game.

What platform are you going to get Saints Row 2 for?

194  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: What happened to the WoW patch? on: October 02, 2008, 07:30:38 PM
Actually, death knights start at heavy runecloth bandage skill, so don't bother saving up mageweave for that.

Yeah, the primal mooncloth set is BOP and you need to have the specialization to wear it. Also remember, that they are going away from separate damage and healing bonuses to a straight spell bonus. Each tailoring piece (spellfire, shadoweave and primal mooncloth) have different stats and is geared towards a specific class, but any spellcasting class can benefit from them. Take a look at the WotLK Wowhead to see the differences in pieces.

Edit: Here's a link for the robes for each specialization:

I can't wait for the friggin expansion. I hit 70 and stopped playing my priest for a long time, started playing again about a month ago, but I'm so far behind everything I'm basically useless for raids and heroics. I was unable to heal regular Magister's Terrace effectively, so I had to start doing battlegrounds... but being on alliance side, with a healer, trying to do battlegrounds is a nightmare. I don't mind losing, as long as I feel like I have a chance.

I need to re-roll as horde, but I can't stomach the thought of playing through another 70 levels.

Looking at the priest talent calculator, I'm thinking this is the new optimal Disc build:

http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/priest/talents2.html?tal=353230013000512050130500125123505000032000000000000000000000000000000000000000000

It really depends on if you are going to be mainly PvPing or PvEing. Then there's optimal builds for arenas and for battlegrounds and same goes for leveling or raiding.

Grinding out honor does suck, but I think it's better than losing in arenas. However, you can get most of season 3 gear from just points, so you can lose your way to a few epics there if you don't mind losing.

Also, as Semaj posted, Mooncloth tailoring has good PvE healing pieces. But it's kind of a pain to level up tailoring if you don't already have it.

But I wouldn't go too crazy on trying to gear out. The starting areas in Lich King have good rewards for those without epics. Some of the blues from the starting instances rival Karazhan loot.

Also, with the 3.0 patch, leveling 60-70 will be a lot easier. 1-60 is a joke right now so re-rolling isn't as bad as it sounds. smile

Edit: Oh, I forget to mention, Alliance has a deeper story line in Lich King so re-rolling Horde will cause you to miss out on it. That was to make up for Horde's deeper story line in Burning Crusade.
196  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: [WoW] Wrath of the Lich King NDA lifted beta site online! on: September 29, 2008, 04:25:00 PM
Here we go:

This is a shot of the Terrace of the Makers. It faces Ulduar which is the instance for this zone.

Next up, is a shot of Ulduar. There are 2 instances in there, Halls of Stone and Halls of Lightning. HoS was interesting. Haven't been to HoL yet.

The whole zone is all snowy and mountainous. You'll probably want to hold off coming here until you hit 77 when you can learn the new flying skill. The starting area of this zone can be done without flying, but it's a whole lot easier to just fly around. smile

Edit: Here's one more. It's hard to really get the scope of the zone with the two shots I posted. But this is shows my brother's paladin on the new Armored Snowy Gryphon. This is the other side of the Terrace of the Makers as you approach from the south (which is where you would enter this zone).

199  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: [WoW] Wrath of the Lich King NDA lifted beta site online! on: September 27, 2008, 08:05:20 PM
Well, one of the most pressing concerns is the stability of the server with the new content. The beta server has been constantly laggy and very difficult to play through. But the latest build seems to be a lot better so they are making progress there.

Balancing is an ongoing process so even if they don't quite get it done, future patches will address it. So far, the classes I've played have felt "right" even the retribution paladin that people have been crying over being overpowered. Ret pallies hit hard, but they aren't nearly as durable as protection or even holy. You make sacrifices for your DPS.

The starting zones and mid-level zones in Northrend all are very polished and ready to go. There are a lot of interesting quests and a few new quest mechanics which will make leveling up fun. They are still polishing up the high level areas, but again, nothing future patches can't fix.

So, I think November is still right on target.
