I second wonderpug's recommendation for bone-in Boston butt (the term butt is for the shoulder "butting" into the rest of the pig).  The bone helps to regulate the temperature of the meat and adds flavor as well.  There's a recipe for bone-in Boston butt in the current Cook's magazine.  You start with a salt and sugar rub and let it sit overnight.  Then pop it in the oven to roast.  I can provide the recipe if you can't find a copy of the magazine in your area.

So I got my wife hooked and we're RAFing it up.

At low levels (before 60? before 70?) are DPS builds for tanks and healers still viable in instances? We don't do every instance, but would like to do some, and I'm wondering if I can spec DPS yet still tank or heal competently. I know you can't do this at 80, but for the time being duoing PvE with a prot pally ain't as fun as I imagine ret would be.

It depends on your class, but for the most part, you could get away with it.  If you are a paladin tank, just having Righteous Fury will keep agro on you.  Might be a little tougher for warriors or druids.  As for healing, again depends on class, but you also have the option for dual talents which allow for a healing spec and dps spec.

How soon after cooking can I rinse this thing out with hot water? So far I've rinsed it out right after use.  Oh and I use a nylon brush, not a metal wire brush so it should be okay.

Overall, despite there being more steps with the cast iron to use, it's a little faster overall to cook with since I'm not scouring burnt in carbon off it after every use, something I can't get right with the older non-stick pans I used before, weird.
Did you properly season your pan before you started using it?  Once you develop the coating, you really want to avoid too much water or scrubbing.  Check out this link for some tips: http://www.epinions.com/review/Lodge_12_Inch_Cast_Iron_Skillet/content_130615709316
127  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Any cooks out there? Cookware recommendations? on: May 17, 2010, 07:34:39 PM
I'm just about to graduate from culinary school, so I'll chime in with my professional opinion. biggrin

I'd say go with a flat iron skillet since you can do more things with it versus the grill one.  If all you want to do is grill burgers and steaks, then the grill pan is the better choice.  But you can even cook some pancakes in the iron skillet if you so choose later on.

As for what to use on an iron skillet, there are good quality heat proof rubber spatulas you can get.  I don't like using metal, because you can stratch the pan even iron skillets.

And for mixing, if you can't do it by hand, you should really get a stand mixer.  The handheld mixers are too weak and break easily.  I wouldn't recommend buying one.  If you have any more specific questions, feel free to PM me.  Good luck and happy cooking!

By the way - did anyone do the 'love is in the air' achievements this past weekend? I did about fifteen gifts of adoration and did not get a single picnic basket, black dress or peddlefeet pet arrow....... grrr.....arrrrgh.
The picnic basket, black dress and peddlefeet pet were not part of the meta achievement for the title, but yeah, I feel your pain. I needed one last heart candy to finish the meta achievement on my priest and the last 5 gifts of adoration would not drop the damn candy bag! The worst part was that I started doing them on the day that Love is in the Air started. frown

You got nice gear there, Scuba. Too bad you're Alliance. I'd love to group with you! On that note, any Horde on Whisperwind need a warlock or priest for raids, send a tell to Qitefae or Shyraal. biggrin

Also, I saw a little blurb about upcoming Ulduar on MMO Champion and it sounds really cool. There going to be more vehicle combat (like the Coldara daily quest "Aces High" and Malygos) and more "hard mode" options like having drakes up for Sartharion.

How many of you guys are playing Alliance out in Northrend? I chose to play my Alliance characters since there is much more backstory invovled with Arthas and Frostmourne, just like Horde had more backstory in Outlands with the Thrall quest line and such. Dragonblight is where you get to see a lot of cool stuff. smile

Anyone on Ravencrest mind giving a lv 71 Hunter a port in Dalaran?

On that note...Is that all I have to do to get there? After that will I be able to fly in and out?

Once you get the flight path to Dalaran, you can fly in and out. However, you need to be level 74 in order to access the teleporter below the city.

Edit: Also, once you reach level 77 and are able to fly, you can't fly out of Dalaran since it is a no-fly zone (but you can fly in and dismount). However, you can mount up on your flying mount at the flight master or the tunnel below the city in the sewers.

Arthas won't be ready for several content patches. They did that with Burning Crusade where they added content patches for the higher up raid dungeons.

To be honest, both mining and herbalism are great choices. The huge sink for them are jewelcrafting and inscription, so both will make a good deal of gold.

Now, if you want to pair it with another profession, inscription is actually very good to consider. Inscription has some great shoulder enchants that only inscriptionist (or is it inscriber?) can use on their own shoulder. Of course you can do the rep stuff with the Scryers or Aldor for the shoulder enchants, but the inscription ones are very good as well.

Enchanting can be very good as well, but it is a huge pain to level up especially if you want to get beyond 375. And yeah, you start at 1 with professions for death knights.

Hope that helps.

How about some sort of horror based mmo.  I'm thinking of something like a Vampire Masquerade universe.  You could have the vampire factions, the werewolf factions and maybe throw in human/Blade Daywalkers for the hell of it.

+1000

I love the Vampire the Masquerade universe. The Jyhad trading card game (before it was renamed to Vampire: The Eternal Struggle) was one of my favorite TCGs. If done right, I bet it would make an awesome MMO.

I also think the Auto Duel setting (from Steve Jackson GURPS) would make a great MMO, although the recent failure of Auto Assault would make this highly unlikely to considered in the near future. frown

Way before Fallout 3 was even announced, I dreamed of one day playing a Fallout MMO. Looks like that may come true with Interplay holding the reigns to that IP.  ninja
