There are embargoes for most major games.  There were embargoes for Transistor and Wolfenstein and both of those turned out really well.  You guys are reading too much into this.

yep.

For the last 3-6 months people all over have been trying to find anything wrong with this game.  After being told many many times that the one video was an old video and not representative of the released game in terms of graphics people still tried kill it.  Proof in case, while watching gamespot's 1 hour live preview all you see is people complaining about graphics, not taking into effect that it was a live stream that was compressed.  The game looks great, and it looks like it's going to be tons of fun.

No, we don't have a way to see posts that were pre-edited.  However I saw yellowking's post before it was edited, and didn't see any personal attacks being made.  I don't remember word for word, but he was essentially backing his opinion.  Whether if it was right or wrong, I don't care.

Obviously there's bad blood here.  It's carried on since the 2014 console wars, and it's spilling over to other threads.  It's happened before, and people were eventually banned.  None of us wanted to ban that person, but it was getting so vile it had to be done.  It was old yeller all over again.

Don't make me pull out my shotgun.  It took me a long while to get over that.

With that said, I thought Tilt's technical input was interesting and thought he did a good job describing  what YK was seeing.  While YK's post was a little passive aggressive, I don't see anything that was against the COC.  However the bickering over and over between the two of you is getting old, and it sounds like YK has taken the steps to move on and not carry this further.  If it takes using the ignore feature to make it work, that's cool, but it's just too bad we can't just be adults and learn to keep things polite between each other.

Who keeps complaining that the PS4 needs games? I already have a freaking backlog. The Show, Child of Light, and now Transistor and Wolfenstein, since both are getting good reviews.

I seriously don't get it either. It's like people don't remember other launch windows...
Those are multiplatform games.  People who complain about the lack of games are usually people who already have a powerful PC and have no reason to buy either console right now.  As a predominantly PC gamer I see no reason to buy a PS4 now, or unless e3 amazes, anytime in the near future.

Bingo!

Preliminary results are in, the Sacramento Chapter raised over $170,000. Team Ethan raised just over $7,000. Thank you all for your support!

So the coolest thing happen at the walk.

This is the back of our team shirt

All day long people were telling they liked our shirt.  Towards the end of the walk, a guy walks up to me and asks if I was Ethan's father.  I was a little hesitant not knowing where this was going.

I reply that I am, and he asks if I wanted to have 2 49ers tickets to take my son to.  I couldn't believe what I heard.  I asked how much he was selling them for, and he said they're free.  He has season tickets and he offered me a preseason game to see them play the Chargers.

I now get to add another check mark to my son's list, and I get to the see the new stadium!

I don't ever recall a time where any console was better than the PC counterpart.  Yes, some games were available only on consoles, but in terms of performance, PC was always the better option.

I preorded the PC version.  I don't get the hate for ubisoft's Uplay.  It works.  You install the game, you hit play.  You have fun.  It's that simple.  It's as simple as Steam and Origin and Battlenet.

But back to the PS4.

doesn't seem too impressive, and half of them have already been announced or expected.

I'm real disappointed in this console generation.  I was ready to drop $400-$500 on a new console.  Something I never do.  I usually wait 2-3 years, because at the time I couldn't afford it.  This year, I was ready, and there's absolutely nothing to play.  Anything I want to play can be played on the PC.  The only thing I'm missing is MLB The Show 2014.  I held off during Christmas.  I thought maybe by June I'd get it.  Nope, still nothing.  I think both companies failed on their game lineups.  Not enough exclusive content as well.

I'm assuming uncharted 4 will be PS4 only?

107  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / 2014 Team Ethan Great Strides to cure CF. !!!UPDATE!!! on: May 01, 2014, 02:39:00 PM
"Woe to that child which when kissed on the forehead tastes salty. He is bewitched and soon must die."
This adage, from northern European folklore, is an early reference to the common genetic disease recognized today as cystic fibrosis. As the saying implies, the disorder once routinely killed children in infancy and is often identifiable by excessive salt in sweat.
That was from the late 1800's. Obviously now we have better ways to diagnose people with cystic fibrosis, and over time, people who have CF are now living past their 40's.

May is Cystic Fibrosis Awareness month and I figured this would a great time to ask for your support for my son and many others across the world.

For the 5th year in a row, I will be walking in the Great Strides event here in Sacramento on May 17th, raising money and awareness for the CF Foundation. As a participant, I have committed to raise $2,000, with our team goal of $8,000. With your help we believe we can reach our goal!

What is Great Strides? It's one of the biggest fundraisers the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation runs to raise money for new treatments and research towards a cure of this awful fatal disease. Four years ago last month, we found out that our son who was about 3 weeks old at the time, was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. Talk about a shock to the system! Since then this will be our 5th year participating in this event that directly helps over 70,000 people who have CF worldwide.

This year Ethan has had some health issues that are related to CF.  He has the onset of liver disease, and had his bowels blocked.  Luckily we had avoided hospitalization, but a nice dosage of milk of magnesia and an enema made for an awesome night for a kid who's not potty trained!  Other than that, he's a normal boy who loves to play.

Cystic Fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system. A defective gene and its protein product cause the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus that clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections; and obstructs the pancreas and stops natural enzymes from helping the body break down and absorb food.

Because of these walks and similar fundraisers there has been significant breakthroughs for new treatments, research, and support to the CF community. This year there has been some great news on new drugs that will directly help my son and many others and is getting closer for release!

Over the years many generous forum members have helped someone they never met. It amazes me every year the support my family receives. We have a great community that gives back, and I'm always happy to belong to this forum. We all may have our differences, but helping others always prevailed, and that's what makes this forum awesome!

Today, I am asking you to help me reach my goal by making a contribution at my page http://fightcf.cff.org/goto/KenDean Please feel free to share this post or link to your friends and family! The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is a highly regarded nonprofit donor-supported organization that relies on donations from events like this and the way they manage their foundation has been used by other organizations due to how efficient they are.

I appreciate your support and generosity, and I will keep you posted on my progress.

Thank you,
Ken, Erin, Ethan & Lila

Guys, seriously. The new Spiderman game is made by Activision and is a movie tie-in. That means it's shovelware. Activision has done this several times before. They quickly develop a game with as little resources as possible and shove it out at a time when they think they'll get the most sales from naive customers.

If you love this industry, don't buy that game. You'll be sending Activision all the wrong signals.

If you are looking for an OTA antenna, check out GoMohu.com.  I had very good luck with it pulling in stations nearly 40 miles away.  Sadly, I was still missing one (the CBS station was 70 miles away) so had to stick with cable.  Now that I'm back in civilization, I can't wait for the kids to age a bit more so I can try again.

that looks cool.

Here is what I sent them via email, and maybe you can answer this...

I'm highly considering ditching subscription TV (directv) and building my own HTPC that lets me watch TV over the air, stream shows using the web, and watch movies off of my hard drives.

The HTPC will also have a built in DVR.  What I want for my DVR is to have multiple tuners so I can record more than one  over the air show at a time.

Would this work with Leaf 50?

Thank you,
Ken

So this October my Directv contract expires.  I'm cutting the cord then...

What I want to do is to use my spare PC as a media center/DVR.  The thing is, it may require some updates to the hardware (I think it's a Intel E3500 with 4 or 8 GB of ram, and a GEFORCE 6900? Video card) I'm thinking I'll need a new video card because it's only DVI.  I think ideally I want an HDMI type of card.

Couple of questions...

1: Do you think I should upgrade this a little?  Obviously I'll need a tuner card.
2: I have some SATA HD's but they're not fast.  Should I get a SSD card for it?
3: What OTA should I be looking into?  I have an attic, but don't really want to run cable down the wall, and we're planning on moving in the next year and I don't want to put much effort.  What OTA should I consider getting?  I don't have a budget yet, so I'm open to anything.

What we're planning on watching

1: OTA TV shows (recorded to DVR and watched later, having kids and trying sit for 10 minutes, is nearly impossible at the moment.  We really need something that we can pause at any time)
2:Sports (mainly football, and baseball.  I don't watch baseball religiously, but football, mainly the niners are broadcasted OTA, but I know I won't be able to watch TNF or MNF)
3: Some cable shows. (TNT, FX, TLC(Wife)  I'm assuming hulu might carry some or some other video service.
4: We have Amazon Prime, and might consider Redbox or Netflix for streaming movies.  Hulu will more than likely be used as well.
5: I have ahem movies on my hard drive that we could use as well.

So, is going with a media center the best route, or should I be looking at Chromecast/Roku instead?  Our obvious goal is lower the bills.  Tivo probably won't do that.  I'm ok with buying the hardware upgrades up front because it's a one time charge.  Hulu is cheap a month, and Prime is technically free.  So I'm assuming our monthly TV/Movie bills would be under $20 a month.

Anyone have a good site for home built DVR?  I saw someone link to one, but I can't find it.

So back to my question from the last page.  Didn't get any responses and would like to have some input for those have gone away from subscription TV

hmmmm that looks good.  I wonder if they other services than VUDU... like hulu, amazon prime, netflix, or redbox?  Could I get chromechast and have that intergrated into that for DVRing?

2.  I've tried Enchanting with the Mystic twice now, paying between $25K and $50K to replace properties.  On both occasions, of the two replacements I was offered, one was fairly worthless (something like "increase gold pickup by 1 yard) and the other was the exact same one I just paid to replace.   Roll Eyes  Needless to say, I don't think I'll be using that feature very often.

Don't give up on this.  You're going to get bad results sometimes, but you'll also get good ones.  I've gotten some wonderful replacements for useless stats.

I've heard this, but haven't seen much luck so far.  Dumped about $350K into enchanting yesterday and never saw anything other than very minor incremental improvements.  Guess I just haven't been lucky.

I don't have the expansion, so I don't know the details, but did you see the response to your post on OO, they seem to explain why you are having no luck.
