I don't think anyone's actually upset.  We're just blowin' off a little steam...waiting for the steam sale, ironically enough.

edit:  wait...your four year old is upset that the redskins are losing their trademark!?!

I say let him keep on talking, it just paints him in a bad corner.  But we all ready know about that.

Yes he's trolling, he'll stop when he stops getting the attention.  Man I feel like I'm home talking to my 4 year old who misbehaves just to get the attention.

I'm surprised that theirs no Activision Press Conference.  In fact the only game I can think of that they make is Call of Duty series, and Blizzard stuff.  Did they fall off the map in the last few years?  they used to have a huge presence.

Come back when you've watched the whole thing.  It's decidedly less obvious.

I'm back, and I stand by my comments.  Pretty impressive lineup, great support of the console for games and non-games.  Just gotta wait for the games to be released.  Next year is going to be great!

One thing that struck me about the MS conference, but I forgot to mention it:  MS played nice with Sony at the start, including them by name in a "we're all in it together" kind of moment.

We'll see if that has any effect on Sony's tone.  If they went the same route as last year, it might seem like bullying.  MS appears humbled, and Sony had better be careful not to stomp 'em too hard.

I took that as, PLEASE DONT HUMILIATE US AGAIN.

49ers extend Kapernick's contract for 6 years $120 million.  $60 million guaranteed.  That's the most in history.

While I like the guy, I think it's stupid to pay him that much.  He's a great athlete and is exciting to watch when he runs, but he needs to learn to read the field.  Alex Smith had this problem, and he was worse because he didn't have the legs to use to escape like Kap does.
97  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [E3 2012] Watch Dogs on: June 03, 2014, 06:20:21 PM
Weird, I feel the cop/bad guy chases are too easy.  I heard reviewers state it's hard to escape, but that hasn't been my experiences.  If I'm on foot, I'll die easily, but in a car, the world is my playground.  Hacking posts, steam pipes usually do the trick to allow me enough time to either escape or hide.  I've avoided cops and helicopters by hiding inside buildings like garages.  I've ditched cops by staying out of sight with the engine off and hiding while watching them go up and down the street with their spot lights and eventually call off the search.

I'm not saying I'm better.  I'm just not having the same experience.  With that said, I wish I had your experience with hacking people.  I never seem to be successful.

I don't think YellowKing was talking about graphics, actually. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe he was referring to the experience beyond that. The new generation of consoles (I'd rather not call them next-gen. They're current-gen) can do lots of things with AI, complexity and persistence that Watch Dogs frankly doesn't. Still doesn't prevent it from being fun.

Edit: Bleh, after re-reading the above post, I realize my answer was superfluous. Ignore.

I addressed that I knew he was talking about gameplay and I responded to that.  But it's also been mentioned in the previous pages about Watch Dogs graphics not being Next Geny enough...

It's not like the game is getting trashed. A metacritic score in the low 80s isn't exactly clearance-bin material.  icon_biggrin

The running theme in both the professional reviews and in this thread has been that the game is fun. The difference seems to be in how innovative/fun it is for a next-gen game. Some people think it's game of the year levels of fun, others (like me) think it's fun but nothing we haven't really seen before. I think this perception may depend on a lot of factors - how hyped you were, what other open world games you've played, E3 perception vs reality, etc.

I don't think there's any conspiracy - in fact, if anything the reviews have been remarkably consistent when taken as a whole.

Did you really think that Next-Gen is going to happen overnight, or right when the PS4 or Xbox1 was released?  It's a slow gradual process.  And that's graphically speaking. Just look back from the Xbox to Xbox 360 for proof.  There wasn't a lot difference between the two consoles at first.  Yes the hardware was better, but there was some considerable delay for the graphics to catch up.

Your above post is in terms of gameplay, and that's  a much more longer process than graphic progression.

Maybe it's because I play on the PC platform primarily, and I'm already accustomed to seeing better graphics that look "next-gen".  That's a laughable term, because, it's not next-gen, it's the consoles playing catch up to the PC counterparts.  It's the natural flow of gaming.  PC always looks the best, consoles catch up to a moderate PC build, and then a year or two later they are back to being behind again.    It's just the concept of people complaining about it not being next-gen is funny.  What is next gen to them?  CGI quality graphics now?  That may happen at some point, but it's not going to be done in the next iteration.  It's going to be done over time, like all graphical progressions.  20+ years ago we were playing in sprite based environments.  Before that text.  Overtime we have pushed the bar a little higher to what we see now, but next-gen doesn't mean OMG awesome graphics overnight!

There's some cussing, but nowhere near as bad and often as the GTA series.  I haven't seen anything regarding sex, other than some descriptions when you profile someone.  I heard you can spy on someone having sex but don't see anything.

I think the game is awesome.  Not sure why it gets so much hate.

Exactly.

I'm on the PC, and the graphics are really good.  The shadows needs work, but the lighting, textures, and all the details is over the top good.  The smoke effects are great.

The gameplay is just as good as the GTA games, without the frustrations with the bad controls.  It's definitely much more polished (when on the the gamepad).

Voice acting seems really good and the characters are interesting.  Very similar to GTAV.

And what's best, no nigger that, no nigger this.  And the cussing is kept to the minimum.

And like GTA, the world is believable.

At some point during the last year, Watch Dogs was a must have for almost everyone, and somehow the perception changed, and what I hear people complain about makes no sense.  It's like they are trying to find something not to like just to not like it.  But the things they list doesn't match up.  Granted, it's all opinion, but their wrong opinions smile
107  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [E3 2012] Watch Dogs on: May 28, 2014, 08:31:56 PM
This whole Next Gen talk is ridiculous anyways.  You're not going to see a huge leap in graphics right away.  It's going to be a slow progression and it will cap off over time like it did with the previous generation.  The new systems finally look like what we've been seeing on the PC the last few years.  But they don't have a lot of room to grow, compared to the PC.  And that's becasues PC's are not bound to a specific design.  I haven't seen any game that came out for the XBox1 or PS4 looked leaps and bounds from the previous generation.  If anything it's a general improvement.

This morning I read an article comparing the graphics between the xbox 1, ps4 and the PC.  I think it was linked here.  The article showed the same scene for each system, and you can barely tell the difference.  Sure if you really focus on one spot you'll see some blemishes, jaggies, different quality in shadows, and other things, but as a whole, there wasn't a lot of difference between the three systems.  But my point is, I thought all versions looked great based on the quality level displayed in the article.  Having it on the PC, I know it looks better when using the higher settings.  But you need a beefy video card for that.

With all of that said, I hope the drivers I downloaded last night fixes my stuttering issue when driving.  I also learned from that article that the Ultra Texture settings if for video cards that have 3 GB of ram or more.  I only have 2.  So I'm reducing that to High.

With uPlay down, it's down too, so it doesn't matter what you have it set to. Tongue

Still really enjoying this. Also starting to get annoyed when the game just hitches and hitches BADLY (on the PC). It doesn't skip frames when it gets really, really bad - it just starts to take longer and longer to draw them. I don't know what the hell is going on. I do know my PC can definitely handle it though, so it's not that (and yes, I have the latest NVidia drivers released like today for this game).

On the flip side, the game is so much fun. I love being chased by somebody, as I can turn the entire city into a weapon (raise the Blockers just as I pass by them, or flip a traffic light as the insane citizens don't see if the cross-street is clear before hitting the gas, or other random fun things) to escape. Also I love sneaking around in places where I shouldn't be, headshotting people with my silenced pistol to get them out of my way.

All in all, the AI is fun to mess around with. biggrin

ya the hiccuping is annoying.  My system can definetely handle this game.  It's smooth on foot, but hiccupy when driving.

yep.

For the last 3-6 months people all over have been trying to find anything wrong with this game.  After being told many many times that the one video was an old video and not representative of the released game in terms of graphics people still tried kill it.  Proof in case, while watching gamespot's 1 hour live preview all you see is people complaining about graphics, not taking into effect that it was a live stream that was compressed.  The game looks great, and it looks like it's going to be tons of fun.

No, we don't have a way to see posts that were pre-edited.  However I saw yellowking's post before it was edited, and didn't see any personal attacks being made.  I don't remember word for word, but he was essentially backing his opinion.  Whether if it was right or wrong, I don't care.

Obviously there's bad blood here.  It's carried on since the 2014 console wars, and it's spilling over to other threads.  It's happened before, and people were eventually banned.  None of us wanted to ban that person, but it was getting so vile it had to be done.  It was old yeller all over again.

Don't make me pull out my shotgun.  It took me a long while to get over that.

With that said, I thought Tilt's technical input was interesting and thought he did a good job describing  what YK was seeing.  While YK's post was a little passive aggressive, I don't see anything that was against the COC.  However the bickering over and over between the two of you is getting old, and it sounds like YK has taken the steps to move on and not carry this further.  If it takes using the ignore feature to make it work, that's cool, but it's just too bad we can't just be adults and learn to keep things polite between each other.
