4521  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath on: February 09, 2005, 05:09:13 AM
Man this game gets better and better.  I'm sitting in jail right now listening to the three inmates bicker at each other.

Kaigen on #GG seems to think that the bandit's voice is low quality.  It does sound muffled, but I think it's supposed to be that way.
4522  Non-Gaming / Forum and Site Feedback / Anyone have any problems with this ad? on: February 09, 2005, 01:52:08 AM
I saw a banner that is advertising a height growth supplement and they are gearing it towards 12-25 year olds.

I just think it's a bad idea for a 12 -18 year old taking a so called height enhancing to someone who still developing.

Maybe it's my conservatism showing, but it just doesn't sit right with me.

4525  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath on: February 08, 2005, 04:51:23 AM
just got the game today, i loved how all the chickens would run inside their homes/businesses when I started slapping them.  they wouldn't let me in until I calmed down biggrin

So far pretty fun, but I'm getting the spiderman 2 vibe.  Fun for the first few hours, then you realize how repetitive and shallow the game is.

I'm hoping that's not the case, because it has loads of atmosphere.

4527  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Why the Philadelphia Eagles will win the Super Bowl on: February 07, 2005, 05:12:16 AM
You can blame the Eagles lost on 3 factors

1:  Patriots Defense (turnovers)
2:  Lack of running game
3:  Terrible, Terrible time management.

My biggest gripe:

The fact that you still can't save mid-game in the majority of sports games out there today.  Wth?  I don't always have 30min to play an entire game of football/hockey/basketball/whatever - it would be nice to quit and anytime and pick the game back up where I left off later...

You should have picked up the superior Madden 2005.  You could save anywhere

4535  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Act of War: Direct Action on: January 22, 2005, 09:12:37 AM
This game came under the radar for me.  Based on the front page of gamespot on the PC Section, I would have thought it was a FPS/Battlefield 1942 type of game.  It's actually an RTS and it's pretty damn cool.  It reminds me of Command and Conqueror.

Here's a preview, and if you click on the download section, you can download the demo.  However, it's pretty big, it's over 600 megs.  But there's videos involved and the mission is pretty big.

Some of the things I liked were:

Able to capture enemy soldiers.
The use of cover
Unit animation

THere's some buggy moments in the game.  Afterall it is a demo.  I don't like when you build a unit, the unit will come out of the building and stand right next to the building, making it hard to see.  The fix, change the ralley point.

Units are sometimes unresponsive.

Anyways, if you're interested, check it out..

4542  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Battle for Middle Earth on: January 18, 2005, 06:11:15 AM
yes I played and finished the game.  You can ask orpheo, duroudx (or however his name is spelled), vidiot, and Kaigen.  If you want me to post spoilers on the weak story, I'll do it, if I have to prove to you I know what I'm talking about.  Not only did it have a weak story, the voice acting was atrocious, probably one of the worst I've seen.

It's called opinions.  I didn't say the game was bad, I said I thought BFME was better.  I'm sorry you don't agree.  BFME isn't perfect by no means, however I'm having more fun with it.  Both games do nothing new, both games have a weak single player element, but out of the two, I like BFME more.

If you hover your mouse over the unit build icon (go to your unit building (different on each race) and hover your mouse over the unit you want to build.  It will tell you what that unit is weak against, and what they are great at.  If I remember correctly, archers are good against them.
4543  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / I never thought I say this about Gamepro... on: January 18, 2005, 02:17:54 AM
when you compare it to PC standards, Halo 2 and the original, is mediocre at best.  When you compare Halo 2 to Riddick, it's also mediocre.  However, while I didn't care for it, it has done well in the multiplayer department for the xbox.

But overall without the hype, it's a mediocre game, that offers nothing new.

I am also in the "firmly believe that this is a good thing" category.  The game has become quite unstable for me since the wonderful day-long maintenance of last week, and I am quite annoyed.  Reference Penny Arcade taking away their best game of 2004 award.

LOL like Blizzard cares.

But they are so right on the money, well at least this opinion piece is...

Prior to the November 9 launch of Halo 2, many media outlets were calling it "the most highly anticipated shooter of all time." I'd venture to say it's the most over-hyped shooter of all time--a fun shooter that breaks as many boundaries as Michael Bay and Jerry Bruckheimer do for films
4546  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / ***EA Signs exclusive deal with ESPN*** :'[ on: January 17, 2005, 09:19:11 PM
the way the article paints, it, it was ESPN who ditched Sega, and went with EA.  I'd do that too, after knowing, they have the NFL rights.

All EA needs to do is hire the SEga crew, just for graphics, and keep the programming to the Madden crew.  Ultimate Perfect Football

4548  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / let the harrassment of peyton manning begin! on: January 17, 2005, 09:00:08 AM
lets settle down a bit..

I'd put Brady over Manning.  Manning has a better support cast, but Brady is a patient QB who reads the field like Joe Montana.  He's accurate, and he rarely makes any mistakes.  Manning is a good QB as well, while he has a great supporting cast and is a high scoring QB, he still hasn't done anything in the playoffs or when the season is on the line.   He tends to fold easy, making bad decisions and forcing unneeded throws.
4549  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Battle for Middle Earth on: January 17, 2005, 08:55:28 AM
I love it.  However I find it too easy.  I played the good campaign on normal, and i breezed through that.  Now I'm playing the Evil campaign and put it on hard, and while it's a bitter harder than normal, I'm still not being challenged.

It's a paper/rock/scissor type of game, every unit has a strength and weakness to it.

Today my bro and I played online (where the game really shines) and I got my ass kicked.  He ranks 112 in the 1on1 ladders and he wanted to try something out on me.  He told me he would only build hero units and that's it.  I took him on.  I had a 400 unit cap.  I lost sad to say 400 troops to his 5 heroes.  It was simply amazing how he did it.  He just picks and stabs and then retreat, only to gain unit experience.  Then as he gets higher he becomes more powerful.  Eventually he had the undead army and game was over.

My bro is a champ at RTS games.  He beats me at everything, doesn't matter which game.  I had BFME for 2 weeks before him, hoping I'd get the advantage, my first game, I lost.  However I did beat him once, and I was happy smile

I like this game over Warhammer mainly due to the atmosphere.  Both games have huge weaknesses, (warhammer having an uninvolved story line, and being repetitive, while BFME having an easy campaign and unit/hero balancing issues)

I looked at this the other day.  I figured it had to be soon since we didnt see one last year.  It looks fantastic, I am really going to miss the 19.99 for thier games though.  This looks like it should be worth it though.

What do you mean?  There was an ESPN Baseball last year, I played it for months.

Also I believe this is also $19.99.  The normal price starts on the 2k6 series of espn brand games

4560  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Anyone order from on: January 09, 2005, 07:05:29 PM
A lot has changed since my last post.

After I had canceled my order, I checked my order status page, and noticed that my order was partially cancelled.

Then later that day I received a confirmation # of my order.  I called tigerdirect again to confirm that my order has been cancelled, and spoke to a person name Roxane.  She actually seemed like she cared about my problem.  I asked her if I showed her proof (my printed order confirmation with the DEC 31st date) would she give me $100 off.   She said she'd show it to her supervisor.  So I scanned in the document and sent her a copy.  She promised she would get back to me the next day.

It's been a full day and no response, so I called Tigerdirect and immediately spoke to a supervisor.  (I should have just cancelled and moved on, but I wanted to see what the supervisor would do)  He gets on the phone and basically doesn't care too much.   He tells me if my rebate gets denied, I am to send in the denial letter to him and then he'd give me $100 off.  He wouldn't bother looking at my proof.  I relunctantly accepted figuring, it's going to cost me $400 if I buy it elsewhere, might as well gamble just in case they do give me the $100 off.

Later that night, I'm whining about all this to some people in my WOW guild.  Apparenlty someone who owns a company, has a contact with Tigerdirect and he told me to mail him the situation and he'd forward it along to his contact.  I went to start my email, and wanted to find the product page.   To my suprise, I notice that there's a new rebate involved with the same mobo/cpu.  This rebate now has an expiration date of 2/28/05.  So I cancelled my order and placed a new one.  Problem solved.

I emailed the person I've been talking to at Tigerdirect, and told him the situation.  I asked for him to confirm my original order was cancelled.  He replies back and tells me he will also give me free overnight, as long as I give him my new order #.  Unfortunately my order had already shipped, so he gave me free shipping.

Last night I emailed him asking if my computer comes with a heatsink.  Today I find out he just sent me this  for free and with UPS 2nd Day Air.

I totally didn't expect that, and I wasn't trying to get anything free out of him, I just wanted to be sure, because if it didn't I was going to pick one up at a local store.

I don't know if I'd shop there again, but after shipping that heatsink for free, and refunding shipping, has put them in a better light.
