4401  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Soooo...I went to Weight Watchers today[DIET] on: January 09, 2006, 02:38:09 AM
As of Thursday I lost 4 pounds.  Well, most of it was probably water, but if you stick to it, it doesn't seem to difficult.  I first thought there was no way I'm going to survive on 24 points.  I had to borrow some bonus points last night, but in general, I've done pretty good.

Hey, very cool...does Chili's list the amount of points used in each dinner?  I know Applebee's does for some of its items...which is really, really nice.

I had a pretty filling dinner tonight and it was only 10 points!

I'm still interested in seeing how I'm going to lose weight while being alotted 26 points...

There were a few cute women there, as well slywink  More the reason to stick with it!!

Chilli's doesn't have the points yet, but from what I hear, they will soon.

They have a section called guiltless dinners, it's also in that book you get from WW.

but do you have to stay with it the rest of your life?

Do you have ot buy the weight watchers food to livE/   How much does it roll?

you don't have to, but once you reach your ultimate weight goal (determined by WW) you no longer have to pay any dues, and you can still attend the meetings.

We paid the 17 week program, and I don't plan on renenrolling, I already have the materials I need.

You don't have to buy their food, you can eat normally, but you have to make sure what you eat stays at or under your daily point goal.

However, you would benefit eating their food (if you don't want to take time calculating what foods cost what) by buying their food, since it's done for you.

I'm buying their point calculator next week, using that slider is tedious.
4406  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Soooo...I went to Weight Watchers today[DIET] on: January 07, 2006, 09:00:16 PM
I just started thursday night.  I'm allowed 24 points, and man it's hard.  Everything adds up, and the portions are much smaller than I'm used to.  I figure after a week or so my body will adjust, but it's tough.  Yesterday was my first full day.  I didn't go over my 24 points.  I even went to Chili's for a coworker who was celebrating his last day.  I had the guiltless chicken sandwhich with corn on the cob and brocolli (and I hate brocolli) so that only cost me 14 points.  Not too bad for a resturaunt.

Remember, vegetables are usually 0 points, fruits are 1 (unless you eat a banana, that's 2) pretzels are 2 points for 48 sticks, popcorn is 1 point.  So you can easily have those for snacks to kinda fill you up, and doesn't cost you much.  The cool thing, they give you 35 bonus points per week.  That's 5 pts a day extra.  So if you ate too much, you can "borrow" from those.

I didn't have breakfast today, and only had a 6 point lunch ( can't believe a peanut butter sandwhich (on 1 slice of bread, with strawberry jam) is 5 points.   Tonight we are having friends come over and I'm making enchilladas.  By not having breakfast, that will help keep the points down to my target.

My target rate is 167, I started at 199, and I'm at 198.6 today.

What an awesome night.

Before getting into details I should give you some background about Erin and I.

Erin and I have only been dating 6 months as of today.  I don't like bringing it up much since I tend to get raised eyebrows when I tell people I am proposing to her tonight.  However, these last 6 months have simply been the best 6 months in my life, and I truly love her, and know I want to spend the rest of my life with her.

We kind of did things a bit backwards as far as things go.  We've been ring shopping in the last month just to give me an idea on things she likes.  At first I didn't like the idea, because I wanted everything to be a suprise when I propose to her.  But on the otherside, I know what she likes, and I  don't have to worry about if she likes it or not, or having to take it back.  We talked about marriage and we know we want to get married.

Erin has always wanted to get married in the Fall.  She wants to get married next fall (2006) I always had plan on waiting to propose till at least a year after dating.  Well, plans and ideas change, and as I said, I know she's the one for me, so fall of 2006 is ok with me.

Here's the part I know I'll get some flakk for....  Her parents had already put a down payment on the wedding ceremony and reception hall before I even proposed.  Since we both know I was going to marry her, we decided to put some money down to this hotel in Folsom CA, that way we get the place on the day we wanted.  Imagine the pressure I had to deal with that.  I kept thinking, what happens if we get into some horrible fight, and break up, her parents are going to be stuck with the bill.  On the other side, I know her parents accept me, and I know we are both committed to each other.

So that made the whole getting the father's blessing and the proposal really easy.  I already knew the answer Tongue  It's now all a formality biggrin

So to sum up, she knows what kind of ring she is going to get, but hasn't really seen the final product, she knows we're going to get married, and I know that she will say yes, and that I have her parents blessing.  Can't get much easier than that biggrin

So, how do I propose to her and make it special?  read on...

We arrived at Carvers 10 mins early after driving through crappy weather (well crappy for Sacramento) and didn't have to wait since I made reservations.  I found out through my best friend's wife that Erin had some suspicion that I was going to propose to her tonight.  So I found a way to distract her.

Last October I went to Dallas TX for some training for work.  While there I bought her a heart shaped diamond necklace (nothing big, just something nice) December is now brutal on my budget, because her birthday is in Dec, we have Christmas, our 6 months anniversary was in December, and she was going to graduate this semester.  Lucky for me, graduation has been delayed till next semester.  I figured I'd buy her the necklace now (in October) that way I can spread this out a bit.

So, tonight before heading out to Carvers, I gave her the necklace hoping this would make her think that this is all that she was getting, putting that whole marriage thing in the back of her head.  She really liked the necklace that I gave her, and we exchanged presents in the car.

(back at Carvers)Our table was right in front of the fireplace that I had set up earlier in the day.  We had a candle on the table, and everything was perfect.  Throughout the night, I noticed that she was oddly quiet.  I asked her if she was alright, and she said was tired and full from dinner.  I know her tired look, and this wasn't it.  She just seemed reserved.  Later I find out that she was disappointed because she thought I wasn't going to propose to her tonight (so my plan worked biggrin )

We talked for a while, and had the waiter take some pictures of us by the fireplace.  It was now for the desert.  Erin doesn't typically have desert, so I made sure that I ordered some, no matter how full I was.  I was a tad bit worried because I didn't like the idea of giving the ring 5 hours early to the manager.  I kept thinking of all the things that could go wrong.  I made sure to make eye contact with the waiter, to get the acknowledgement that the ring was on it's way.  With great relief, he did.

For some reason, I was calm, not one ounce of nervousness, which is totally out of character.  I was going crazy on our first date, and asking for her father's blessing.

Desert finally arrived.  The moment I've been waiting for.  He gives me my plate first, with the other plate held up high in his over hand so that Erin couldn't see it.  He actually had me worried, because I thought maybe that was a desert for someone else Tongue  He put the plate down in front of her, and she was totally suprised.  She practically gave up already about the idea of me proposing, and now I swept her off of her feet.

I walked to her side, and got on my knees and asked her to marry me, and she said yes.

She said this was the most romantic thing anyone has done for her, and I really made her night.

This is something I will always remember.  All this planning is finally over,  late next year we will be married.

Tonight, I'm taking my girlfriend out to dinner at Carver's Steakhouse and plan on proposing to her.  I already made arangements with the hostess at the resturaunt, and they have us sitting in a table right in front of the fireplace.  They are going to write in chocholate "will you marry me" on the desert dish, with the ring in the middle of the plate.  I'm not so nervous, at least not as nervous when I spoke to her father.

4418  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Must have iPod gadgets on: December 09, 2005, 07:02:04 AM
the iskins and similar products don't do a good job protecting the ipod.  The one I linked is a hard case that gives you full protection of the screen and the shell of the ipod.  It also allows you to use the controls without having to take it out of the case like other hard cases.

Some iskins have a plastic shield that goes over the screen, but that doesn't protect it well, and it makes it harder to see the screen.

I highly recommend the showcase, it's simply the best out there.

This case is a must have.  I don't have the sport, but the original

Go to products and look for Showcase Sport.  It also comes in black.

It's fairly expensive, but you should be able to find it cheaper at other online retailers

I thought I was hardcore but apparently I'm a soccer Mom.

I had the premium version preordered but Gamestop is telling me I won't get it on launch day and I might not get it until after Christmas. So for the last 24 hours I've been flirting with the idea of pulling an all-nighter in line at Circuit City. But I really really REALLY don't want to do that. I want to go to bed and sleep like a normal human being.

Today I asked the manager at my Gamestop if there was any way he could hook me up with a system on launch night. He said the best he could do was that he was getting 6 core systems and only 4 were reserved so I could have one of those.

So basically I had to decide how much money a good night's sleep was worth to me. In addition to the core system, I have to buy the hard drive for $100, a wireless controller for $50, and a headset for $20. That's about $70 over the $400 premium system I had already paid in full. And I can always use the corded controller with my PC or for two-player gaming so that part isn't too painful. I decided to go this route so now I can be up and running late Monday night.

I'm just glad I'll have a new Xbox 360 by the weekend of Dec 2-4. The wife and daughter are going out of town so it's a bachelor gamefest nacho junkfood weekend for me.

Right move? Retardo? You make the call.

I would have just waited.  You pretty much just threw away $250 in accessories just to have it on day 1
