I wonder how this will translate on the PC version

The PC version is apparantly the same codebase as the current-gen (Xbox/PS2/etc) games, so you get the more fully-featured less half-assed game, albeit with the older less impressive graphics.

I'm actually going for the PC version myself.

sorry, i should have quoted gellar, i was referring to his sliders Tongue

4207  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Madden for PC? on: August 22, 2006, 07:10:49 PM
ya, it's pretty much the exact same version as last year.  I think they have used this engine for at least 4 years now.  However the superstar mode is pretty cool.  But not really worth it.  If you're itchin for a football game, wait for the bargain bin.  I don't think the PC version will ever be good as the console ports.  It used to be the other way around, but they go with the money makers, and pc sports games certainly are not money makers.

Head on back to OO or whatever and please just avoid my threads if your just going to pop in with purposefully insulting cliches. "Life's a bitch, suck it up." I don't see anywhere on this thread or other threads where Calvin did anything wrong to you dirt.  If your snide comments are from a different board then keep it there.

I think EA hired the NFL 2K team.  I've only seen madden 2006 on the xbox 360 and from my bad memory, this looks like a big step away from the 2006 version as far as graphics and animations go.  Even the feel of the game looks different.

This ordinary Joe is flying as a guest with the Blue Angels and whenever they do their manuevers, he keeps passing out unable to hand the g's.  It's funny seeing his reaction as he loses conciousness and waking back up.

4224  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Hitman: Blood Money demo is out! on: May 23, 2006, 04:15:48 AM
Quote from: "Autistic Angel" *this* is a terrible demo!  I was pretty interested in getting this game, even considering putting down a preorder for it now that my local Electronics Boutique has cut back their PC stock to bare minimum levels, but now it would take some extremely impressive reviews to even make me consider it.

Hitman 2: Silent Assassin had a fantastic demo.  It must have had a dozen different ways to approach the hit, and I played it for *hours* until I finally got a perfect "Silent Assassin" rating by killing no one except the mark and escaping without triggering a single alarm.  I was disappointed to discover that the rest of the game wasn't nearly so clever and open-ended, but the demo definitely sold me on the game.

Like the Hitman 2 demo, the Blood Money demo lets you play through the first level of the game.  Unfortunately, instead of an awesome full-fledged assassination scenario, this demo is a rigidly linear tutorial level which eliminates any sense of experimentation or exploration by telling you every single step you need to take.  The ironic thing about this tutorial is that it rarely tells you *how* to do it, so when you're told to "Distract the Guards" or "Snipe the Three Men," be prepared to hunt through your keyboard mappings while you figure it out.

The mission starts with you waiting for a guard to open a gate while you listen to your briefing.  Since I can't find any Save Game option so far, my failed attempts to Distract the Guards have caused me to hear that briefing five or six times now.  There won't be a seventh.  I think the fact that I was tasked with sniping three men from a window where only two were visible was the final breaking point.

The graphics are good, featuring some new tricks like soft shadows and normal mapping which give faces a big boost in definition.  The physics, however, haven't improved since Hitman 2 was released in 2002.  Dragging bodies results in the same wildly flapping ragdolls that most other games decided were unacceptable two years ago.  I also haven't seen an environment this untouchable since Final Fantasy VII -- I understand a pistol isn't going to shatter anything it shoots in just a couple rounds, but even some of the windows seem protected by an invisible shield.  It's a bad sign when a game released in 2006 doesn't even appear to feature bullet holes when you plug a flimsy wooden wall.

Ah, let me see, you'll play the game as the main character Jack, after 4 hours of playing, you'll suddenly be yanked out of reality only to repeat the last 4 hours of your life on the island. Then you'll get two more hours, until the game moves onto a cutscene only to recap what you have accomplished the last 6 hours. Rince and Repeat Razz

I will restate again for the record, I am very harsh on baseball titles.  Perhaps Naednek can give some detailed impressions for you folks.  His impressions may be much more inline with how you would perceive the game.  I freely admit that.

I highly doubt he'll value my impressions, he doesn't really like me much smile

I really havn't seen any AI bugs, probably because i'm on easy (so i can get used to the batting interface -- won my first game yesterday)

I have absolutely nothing against you personally naednek. And generally, we do tend to agree on baseball games (at least MVP Baseball, with the exception of the baserunning) so I would be curious to hear some in-depth thoughts on the game from you.

1st the bad...

1: Infield.  While the animations look fine to me, I'm finding the animations is causing the reaction time of the players to slow down.  I don't know if that makes any sense.  It basically suffers the same thing NBA Live 05 did.   When a batter hits a ground ball to the SS, the person controlling the SS has to wait until the animations are finished, this doesn't really slow the rest of the game down, so sometimes an easy grounder to SS can quickly become a base hit.  It's really annoying some times.  I barely got off a double play, I don't know how in the hell anyone could go for a triple.

2:I've now seen some players move fairly slow, then all of a sudden they are running super fast, as if they roomed up with Barry and took steroids.

3: The fonts are hard to read, maybe it's because I don't have HDTV, but it's just really difficult to make out some words, especially when the words are on a white background.
4: Baserunning can be frustration at times.  The cool thing, you can "que up" how bases you want your player to run to.  So if you hit a ball in the gap, and you think you can squeeze off a triple, you can hit the left trigger button 3 times and it will automatically make the player run to 3rd base.

However, start having more than 1 baserunner, it's gets frustrating, there's too much micromanaging going on.

That's all the bad things that I've noticed

1: The batting system is difficult at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's really fun to use and changes the boring press the "A" button to hit.

It's a 2 step process, 1st you plant yourself before the swing (you try to do it as soon as the pitcher releases the ball) and then once it's near the plate, you swing.  By releasing the right stick without pushing up, you'll typically have a grounder, or line drive, whereas by flicking the the stick up will be a fly ball or powerswing.   Meanwhile you can use the left  stick to aim your shots.

Pitching is also a blast, you really have more control in ball placement.

The game isn't perfect, I haven't seen many bugs, but from my experience the game is fun to play, and considering this is the only baseball game coming for xbox, there's not much I can do.
