Alright, I'll keep bumping it as planned, figured that would be the easiest.
3762  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: So any interest in doing a Forum weight loss challenge? on: January 03, 2008, 03:06:23 AM
If anyone wants to do a bet on the side that's cool with me.  However my intention was just bragging rights.

I originally had it stickied, but thought it would get lost between the donations and the COC threads.  My plan was to bump it every Sunday morning.  I'll go ahead and sticky it.

I don't think cash as an incentive is a good thing. Greed makes people turn to ugly things.

Maybe Ron has some schwag lying around that can go to a winner or something, but that would be for him to decide.

That's cool if he wants to do it, but it's not required, this wasn't his idea, nor it's an official GT contest, just something for fun.

We also might have a live database to plug in our numbers, will give more info once it's available.

It's the new year, and it's time to get in shape.  If you're interested, starting Sunday Jan 6th please post your body weight.  Then the following Sunday report back with your results and new total.  Instead of creating a new post each week, edit your existing post, and add your results there, so it would be in diary form.

SpicyJ has volunteered his time and skills to create an online database for us to use to plug in your numbers.  Here is the link http://www.jxprime.net/Weighttracker/

Simply register with a user name and password, enter your weight goal.  Once you do that you can enter your weight in weekly.  However, as far as I know it doesn't track your weekly fluctuations, so you might want to also plug in your numbers here as well for a bigger picture.  We'll see if we can add that in.

Anyways, don't forget to weigh in tomorrow!

Please post in this thread if you need to leave a comment...  http://www.gamingtrend.com/forums/index.php/topic,24263.0.html

We had Erin's parents over for dinner, and made a killer steak. We got them to play some Wii. They left around 11pm to go home, only to be greeted to their house being broken into. What a way to start out the new year!

So it's the new year, and I to keep the tradition of trying to lose weight alive, I thought we can do a weight loss goal?  If so, I'll post a thread by the weekend with the format.  I figured being the new year there's still probably parties going on, so why start now Tongue

I think its time to revisit LE's banning. And yes, I am serious. He is a good kid and knows games (I doubt he wants to come back, but anyhoo).

+1

Seconded.

It was a mistake to ban him in the first place.  We all get rowdy and unruly from time to time.  That's why we have mods.
I disagree.  He was *always* toeing the line, and I'm surprised the mods put up with him for as long as they did.

He had three warnings along with temporary suspensions before he was eventually banned.  Clearly he didn't care.

I'm on the verge of throwing up.  This game just made me nauseous, I'm going to puke.  It looked pretty, I wonder if it would give me the same feeling if I had played this in a non-hdtv.  I'm really hoping this isn't the effect of having the HDTV, because that would suck.

Who has told you not to say Merry Xmas Ken? I can see it if you were in public service, because you don't know who you are talking to really. I always figured this war on Xmas is something invented by Bill OReilly and the press and in reality doesn't really exist. Sure there has been some silly objections to trees and such, but I don't think the vast majority of people could care less. Even as an atheist I have no problem with it at all, Christmas doesn't have to be about religion, it can be about family, giving, or anything else you want it to be.

I wasn't referring to anyone in particular, just that society seems to be overly offended, whether it's Christmas, Hannakah, or some Muslim Holiday (sorry their holiday escapes my mind).  When a particular group celebrates something, there's always another group that gets offended.  Lately it's been politically incorrect to say Merry Christmas (I work for the government, so maybe it's different in the private sector)  It's just a word, and just because someone says Merry Christmas, doesn't have to refer to a religion.  It has a different meaning to others, some religious, some not, who cares, stop getting offended over it and move on.

In a perfect world, you could say "Merry Christmas" and someone could reply "Happy Ramadan" or "Happy Chanukah" or whatever, and both would smile and be happy with expressing their well wishes.

So why not say that then?  Had you or anyone else come into this thread and wished everyone "Happy Chanuka" I feel very confident that no one would complain.  Naednek did his part of your "perfect world" idea so why not do yours?

Not to speak for Naednek but I'm sure the the parenthetical was only a comment about the degree of political correctness that has scared off people from even saying the word "Christmas" around others, lest they somehow be offended.  In my opinion, the religious connotation of Christmas isn't even considered by most people anymore.

Thanks for explaining it to him, he's just trying to pick a fight, and he lost... again.

I wasn't aiming to be offensive, I'm just tired of others telling me I can't say christmas around various places.  I'm sorry that other people are so sensitive.

So, you are purposely only extending your holiday greetings to the Christians among us?  Is your Christmas message that the atheists, Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, etc can all go screw themselves?

Just curious.  I've never understood the "War on Christmas" mentality.  I've found saying "Happy Holidays" to mean no matter what your belief system, I hope you have a pleasant season.

Happy Holidays to everyone here, no matter what your religious beliefs may or may not be.

No it's an all inclusive Merry Christmas.  I'm just tired of the political correctness over a word.

So now blockbuster has raised their prices by $2.00.  This is the 2nd increase in the last 6 months.  Now that I'm moving back to an apartment next month and being farther away from the store, I'm thinking of switching back to netflix.  I've had Boston Legal season 2 on que since May and it still says short wait.  Just this week it changed to Very Long Wait.  We tend to watch a lot of tv shows on DVD, and they don't have many of those available or in stock.

One doesn't need to be all that competent to pass all over the field against the Bengals.

let me enjoy my time Tongue  I'm well aware who they played smile  But he has looked good.  He looked good against the Vikings when he came in, and he looked even better against the bengals.

Awesome, now the Raiders need to lose, and we'll have the same record.

So it's 4th and 2, on around the bengals 30 yard line.  You are leading 20-13 and it's about 5 mins left in the game, what would you do?

Well, I tell you what Nolan did, and he's lucky they held on.  He went for it instead of going for the 3 pts to make it a 2 score game.  They didn't make it the conversion and Bengals marched it back and almost scored a TD.  Thanks to Ocho-Cinco, he dropped the pass in the endzone and niners held on for a victory.  There would have been hell to play if they scored.  Nolan  has lost a lot of respect in Northern CA, and gambling when you didn't need to, could have cost him alot.

Yeah but the Niners are terrible.  That's a little different than giving up on the Pats because they are down 7 points in the 4th quarter.

And everyone knew what the outcome was going to be, I wanted to see a better match up.  It's not like I watched 3 qtrs and then gave up.

And besides, I dvr'd it to watch later just like I do with all the niner games.  I do it so I can skip the commercials and fluff in between each play.  Cuts away at least an hour of time.  I try to watch it the same day so that I'm not spoiled on the score the next day, but today my wife was sick and I spent my time with her instead.
