So, this last weekend we moved into a house (rental), and decided we needed somethings for the house. We went to Costco and just like every Costco, the TV aisle is at the front of the store.  So like every man should do, they should pay their respects until that person has a HDTV for their own.  Erin and I walk down one aisle and notice that there is a Vizio 37 inch LCD HDTV for under $1000.  Out of nowhere, I hear Erin say get it.  I was stunned, I didn't know what to do or how to respond.  I've wanted a HDTV for years now, and just couldn't afford it.  I asked her if she was serious or just being cruel.  She was serious.  This last weekend we also got the DISH set up, and they had a great package for a free DVR.  They also had a HD DVR, but didn't take it because we didn't have an HDTV.  I asked Erin why didn't she say this earlier, I could have jus got that instead, and I just signed that contract.

Well, that TV didn't support 1080p, and I didn't really research anything, so I was totally unprepared on making the best decision.  I told her lets go to Bestbuy and see what they have and see if we can  find something comparable that has 1080p for close that amount.  Well, both Best Buy and CC didn't have anything in that range, and the comparable models were way more expensive, and they had crappy sales.  We drive back to Costco just in time.  Had the tv in the cart, and we're now looking at the DISH HD DVR, they want $449 to own the HD DVR or you can lease it for $200 after rebate.  That's a shitty deal.  Why would I want to spend $200 and not own it.

So needless to day, I told Erin we better hold off for now. Man I could taste it frown

Why hold off like that, just for 1080p? On a 37" TV, you are at the bare minimum for being able to notice a difference with 1080p anyway. If you were locked in on say, a 50" screen, that would be different, but 720p on a 37" set looks fantastic. It's all in the source material guys, good source material, at 720p, will look fantastic.

I forgot to mention that.  After talking to a friend on the way to Best Buy I learned that the 1080p on that screen are 1: hard to come by, and 2: not really worth it right now.  So that wasn't the issue, it was more of the DVR, and the total price of everything quickly adding up.

I didn't get the TV.  I wanted the HD DVR as well.  I just couldn't justify it right now because of our debt.  It's probably for the best.  If anything the TV's will get cheaper.  that same tv at costco was $1400 a few months ago.

Wow I have fallen behind in this thread.

I learned awhile back that it is pointless to try and change someones mind, belief or opinion on any forum/discussion on the Internets.  Why bother and try? It is an exercise in futility that is an extreme waste of time and energy (and bandwidth).  I have let me guard down at times, but I think I am doing a fairly good job of avoiding futile disagreements these days.

If people realized that they need only worry about what they themselves feel, not try to convince other people of their belief, things will be much more civil.  Trying to convince someone of what you think/feel/like at the end of a gun barrel will fail every time. Hetz for example gets very intolerant of anyone with an opinion other than his flavor at the time.  He pulls out the pistols and starts blazing, cutting a path of destruction through the forum and anyone in his path.  What he needs to realize is that he is never, ever, going to magically change anyones existing opinion with this method.

So be secure in your own opinions and beliefs, discuss stuff here, but anytime someone disagrees leave it at that and don't sweat it.  You won't change em.

Kobra, please don't point fingers, you're just gonna start another argument which is not needed here.  Besides, you're not the forum poster child and personally I think you should follow your own advice before giving it to others.

Hetz has already apologized to the forum and said  he would change his behaviour so that this would stop.  That's all we ask.

First off - Kobra, kindly shut the hell up. I think that maybe since that 7 people now have you on ignore, it should give you a clue that maybe you should change the way you are, before pointing fingers at me.

Also, while I said I would try to change my behavior with reguards to the excitement level, I in no way think that my posts of excitement, excuses or justifys the kind of flaming/trolling and namecalling that has gone on around here as of late.

Well, so much for handling things Hetz.  Even after various PMs, you still choose to ignore the mods and the.  I already addressed Kobra's response and it was handled, and you still have to react.  Hetz, many people bait you just so they can get a rise out of you.  It works every time.  And because of it, the forum gets worse and worse.  I had hopes you would learn, even from the GG days, but it still continues.  It's just as bad as the people trying to bait you.

There's going to be some changes in the COC, might want to get it out of your system now.

This reminds me of GG. As it grew you got a greater variety of people, and more clashes. Maybe the same thing is happening here?

While I agree with that, you could also say since most of us came from GG, it could be the same people who had issues over there, still have the same issues and are displaying them here.

It just comes down to respecting others, and not behaving in a way that goes against the COC.
3769  Non-Gaming / Forum and Site Feedback / Re: Is there an Ignore feature in the works? on: January 10, 2007, 06:08:41 AM
The amount of reports the mod's have been getting the last few months, are increasing.  We generally would get a couple a month, now it's about 2-3 a day.  And it usually involves the same people.  The mods have spoken to some members and things have been addressed behind the scenes, with the understanding that all this is hurting the community and it needs to stop.

It really comes down to this

1:) Stop trolling (It's against the COC to begin with)
2:) Stop responding to the trolling even if it's hard to resist, you're not solving anything, it just feeds the flames
3:) If you don't agree with what another person has said respect their opinion, don't make it personal
4:) Realize it's a gaming forum, have fun.

If you can't get along with someone, just ignore them, either manually, or use the new feature.  Or better yet, make things right between you two.

So far this week, I got a new job, Erin and I got a house to rent, and now, we found out we don't have to spend $700 + on her car.

Within the last few weeks, we been noticing the back of her car scraping when she hits bumps. It got so bad, we finally took it in.  We first thought it was her struts, so we took it in hoping it was covered under her warranty. However they still did their diagnostics and found out it was the tires. The tires were oversized. We just replaced all for tires in Oct 06. We go back to America's Tires, and tell them that they put the wrong tires on. They replaced all 4 for free. I tried to get them to make up for the $50 I had to spend on the diagnostic fee since it was their fault, but that didn't work, however the new tires they put on today, cost more than the tires we had put on in Oct, so it evens out.

But, not all ended so well, it turns out two of the center caps on her wheels have cracked, and eventually they will break off, and the wheels she has are discontinued, so we'll have to buy new wheels in order to get the caps replaced. However, it's mainly cosmetic, so I'm not too concerned.

Well, a lot has changed since I first post this.  I pushed back the idea of going back to school for now.  I also applied for a IT job with Cal Trans.  It would be a lateral promotion from my CHP job.  I interviewed in Mid-December, and found out that I was in the running with 1 other person.

Found out the other day, I was #1, and today, they called, and I now have a new job!  I'd be working as an Assistant Information Systems Analyst, and will be with the help desk.  I plan on promoting as soon as possible, the next step is a big increase in pay.  So, right now, I'm not making much more than I currently am, but it opens a lot more potential doors for me.

Look, we all know in the last few months there's been a lot of heated topics between the various consoles.  Many of the these involve you, Calvin, and others on either side of the fence.  What you posted in this thread was perfectly fine.  The reports I received were concerned with Calvin's response assuming it was trying to bait you to "blow up".  I don't know if that was his intentions, but it could easily have been taken that way.  Since I received these reports in a quick amount of time, I felt I should make a preventive warning, that way this thread doesn't get off track (now that's too late it seems).  I wasn't fingerpointing at you or Calvin, it was a general warning to not let this thread become one of those threads that will ultimately get locked.

React to what? I see nothing worthwhile to react to yet in this thread.

As for the TV spot, it's pretty amazing that they are already advertising this game, since it won't be out until late this year. The game does look very cool though, from the trailers.

You know when you see on the news that a fire has broke out on a house and the neighbor is spraying down their roof to prevent their house from catching on fire?  Well, that's basically what I was doing.  I already received 2 "mod reports" within mins of your thread being posted.  Each concerned with a potential flame war.  I was trying to prevent it from happening.  I'm sure if there wasn't a warning, there would have been some response either from you or from someone else, and then it just becomes bigger and bigger, and before you know it, the whole neighborhood is on fire.

I think my confusion is, I have two things that need sound.  Xbox and my PC.  I have the speakers going into my sound card in line in.  (just 2 speakers and the center)  When I add the 360, I'm going to have to plug that in.  I assume that needs to go in the line in.  If so, how can I do that, when it's already in use.  The y adapter I bought was it connected the component cables from the xbox and feeds it into 1.  That one plugs into the sound card.

You presumably need to go from two rca jacks to a single stereo mini plug. You can get one at Radio Shack for a couple bucks.
You'll probably want an extension cable as well, unless your computer is very close to your monitor.

That's what I have, but I still don't see how I'm going to plug the xbox into my pc without having to unplug the line in my computer is already using

Talk to the office manager where you live, sometimes they will work out a deal with you about breaking lease.  You can ask if they rent it out within the 1st month would they refund your penalty.

Erin and I were about to break out lease, and they said if we found someone to move in, they wouldn't charge us anything.

Also, we were going from an apt to a house, the house and a fridge, and washer/dryer, so that $1000 fee for breaking lease would probably been a deal, because we found a house without the fridge/washer/dryer, it would easily be over $1000 that would go towards those appliances.

The problem is both.  People on both sides of fence need to stop baiting each other into disputes.  Both sides need to respect each other's opinion, and accept that some people like PS3s, others like 360's, and others like both.

We've had the same argument since these consoles have been announced.  It's starting to get hostile, and it's beginning to divide people from each other.

It's perfectly fine to discuss things, but try to keep bias and baiting out of the posts.
