I have the EVGA 970 GTX and it's awesome!  When I bought it in May it came with Witcher 3 and Batman Arkham Knight.  With all the problems the batman has, it's been pretty nice and smooth.  The recent minor patch enabled the water effects.  You should see if that offer is still available.

UMM yes!!!!  It's the best console game series ever released on a console.  What Halflife did for PC games, can be said about uncharted.  Presentation, story, action, fun factor, top notch!

Witcher 3 and Batman Arkham City.  Gaming time is very limited, so this will probably be what I play for the rest of the year.  I have to stop buying games.  It's just a waste when I don't have the time.  Goal is to wait till Christmas.
125  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Orkambi and Cystic Fibrosis FDA Approved! on: July 02, 2015, 10:42:52 PM
So this is all trending on facebook and I'm reading people's reaction and I've at least two mentions that this drug is the cure.  No, it's far from a cure, it's definetely a game changer in terms of how this medicine works and how people with CF react, but you still have CF with this med.

What bugs me is people who don't follow the disease, but may have heard about today's event and see's this misinformation of this being a cure may stop donating for this important cause.

Our fight is far from over, and just because we've reached this milestone, we're not done, and I'd hate for misinformation to halt our progress.
126  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Orkambi and Cystic Fibrosis FDA Approved! on: July 02, 2015, 05:15:07 PM
While this may not be so exciting to you, it's HUGE news for over 30,000 people with Cystic Fibrosis like my 5 year old son, Ethan.

As some of you know, Ethan has Cystic Fibrosis.  We found out 2 weeks after he was born.  It's a deadly genetic disease that about 20 years ago, the average live span was in the early teens.  Before that it was much worse.  But there has been huge progress in the last twenty years.  New treatments, medications, and research has greatly improved people's health, and now the average lifespan is in the mid 40's.  We were told if you were to have CF, now's a good time because there's been so much progress and there's some important new medication coming up in the pipeline that will be a game changer if it works.

Organizations like the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation have fundraised and invested in companies to find new drugs and funded research towards a cure.  One company they invested in was Vertex Pharmacies.  They have come up with some very important drugs the last several years.  One of them was Lumafactor.  It was the first drug that actually targeted the defect and corrected it.  I'm no scientist and I'm sure I'll explain things wrong, so I'm copying this from the foundation's website.

Quote
In a healthy person, the CF gene makes a protein — known as CFTR (Cystic Fibrosis conductance Transmembrane Regulator) — that is found in the cells that line different organs, such as the lungs and pancreas. The CFTR protein controls the movement of electrically charged particles, including chloride and sodium (components of salt), in and out of these cells.

In people with CF, the protein is defective and the salt balance in the body is disturbed. Because there is too little salt and water on the outside of the cells, the thin layer of mucus that helps keep the lungs free of bacteria becomes very thick and difficult to cough out. This thick mucus then clogs the airways and, without treatment, can lead to inflammation and infections that damage the lungs.

Well the Lumafactor drug corrects that defective protein allowing the salty particles to pass, which in turn improves lung function, and greatly reduces infections and  ultimately hospital stays.

This drug first targeted people who had the least common mutation of CF.  They started testing this on the most common CF mutation which Ethan has, but they weren't getting the same positive results, so they turned to add a combo drug, and this combo drug is now called Orkambi.

During their testing, they were getting much better results but not as good as the Lumafactor, but enough to pursue approval because even though it wasn't the same results, it was enough to benefit those who had two copies of the gene (the most common kind of CF)

Today this drug was approved by the FDA, and people like my son who has the most common form of CF, will be able to take it and greatly improve his life.  Now granted Ethan is currently healthy with no lung issues.  He does have liver and digestive issues, but his lungs have been clear most of his life, but it's great to know we have something when it comes time.

Sorry for the long message, but this is incredibly great news for many many people who have CF.  This drug can reach over 15,000 people, and it's a game changer.

Thanks to all who have supported my family during our fundraising events!  This is the reason why we fundraise and continue to fundraise.  The money we raise, goes towards investing and research, and it has proven to work time after time.

Except for GameSpot, which gave it a 7/10. However, their reviewer seemed to have a MAJOR gripe with the abundance of Batmobile sequences. The other really high reviews I read mentioned this, but didn't dock points for it.

ya and that guy who reviews is usually extreme in his reviews.  I know 7 isn't a extreme bad scores, but like YK mentioned his major gripe is the batmobile's overuse.  And that warrants a mediocre score....

When I saw that score in comparison with the other scores, my first thought was: "I bet it was reviewed by Kevin VanOrd." And wouldn't you know... He's very cynical about most games these days, and has a hard time liking them. His scores tend to be outliers.

Having said that, the constant mentions of too many tank sequences in the game from so many reviewers aren't surprising, but disappointing nonetheless. The Batmobile sequences never looked appealing, from the first time the game was revealed. That the game is littered with sequences where you have to use it is a shame, because it might seem like they tried to innovate needlessly here.

Didn't he give Witcher 3 a very rare 10?

Yes, he did.

To be honest I'd go 9.5 due to non game stopping bugs (for me).  Love the game but can't agree it is perfect.

I don't think you'll ever find a perfect game past or present

We are deeply apologetic for this unfortunate outcome. If you did pre-order the Batmobile Collector’s Edition, please go to the retail location where you pre-ordered the product and you will receive a full refund of your deposit or it can be rolled over to another Batman: Arkham Knight edition or another product of your choice. We will be providing everyone who purchases Batman: Arkham Knight with the New 52 skin pack, including Batman, Robin and Nightwing, free of charge.

What makes this funny is that Tri-Ace also was behind the statue with the special edition of Dragon Age Inquisition and there were numerous issues with that statue which for some, were only recently resolved.

Now the limited edition is delayed...

Thanks all for your donations!  Yesterday was great, while I didn't get to experience due to being in charge designing and setting up the route around Sacramento, I heard it was a great time.  My feet are killing me, I believe I walked about 10 miles yesterday placing signs along the 4 mile route, walking the route, and then picking up the signs afterwards.

Team Ethan exceeded our goal of $8,000, and raised $9,610.  Thank you again for your support.  Our Sacramento goal was $193,500, and we exceeded that and had raised over $220,000 and counting.

We truly appreciate your generosity and thanks for once again supporting us!
Thank you,

Yes!  Yesterday was important, the committee recommended to approve the very drug that will help Ethan, who has the most common CF mutation.  It's huge news, prior to this, they had medication that helped the least common.  That's still good to have, but now this drug will help thousands more.

Now we just have to wait till either Ethan becomes 12, or that they lower the eligibility requirements.  And hope that insurance will cover it.

This is not meant to bump, but wanted to thank everyone who had donated.  Today we have reached our goal of $8,000 with the help of OO, GT, friends and families.  This was our biggest year of our 6 years of fundraising.  Team Ethan has now raised over $33,000 in that time period.  That's simply amazing.

Thanks again for all of your support.

We are currently #1 in Sacramento, and one of the perks is having a MVP seating area (shade, drinks served to our team members) and the 2nd place team is quickly gaining on us.  There's 3 days left and we're hoping we can hang onto our lead.  So even though we reach our goal, it doesn't mean we stop fundraising!  So if you would like to donate, and help us secure 1st place, you can do so by clicking here

Best of luck!

awesome Thank you!  While this is for the walk, we still fundraise all year.  I tend to stop in May.  You can only ask so much smile  I spam Facebook way more.
151  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [2015] Team Ethan Great Strides --Updated, need your help-- on: May 12, 2015, 03:41:01 PM
My only bump.

Our walk is 4 days away and we are so close to our team goal.  Last year we were around $300 short from our $8,000 goal, and it was my hope that with the addition of new team members that we would surpass it this year.  Right now we are $875 away from hitting our goal.

Today is a very important day for the CF community.  Today is the day that the FDA advisory committee will meet to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of the ivacaftor/lumacaftor combination drug (Orkambi) and provide a recommendation to the FDA for or against approval.  This is the miracle drug that I've been talking about the last 5 years.  This is the drug that will directly help Ethan, it's the drug that corrects the damaged cell.  It's the first drug that isn't fixing the symptom, but the cell itself.  The CF community feels that we are close to a cure, and this drug is the first step.  Ethan is 5, so if today's advisement goes through, he won't be able to take it until 12, but it's a start and it's going to help thousands.  This drug is for the people who have most common mutation of CF.  So it's huge news.

This is why I fundraise, this is why I ask for your help each year, because the foundation doesn't receive government funding and relies on fundraising and investing to make things happen.  Can you help?

They're celebrating one million preorders for this game right now, and that just makes me sad. This game could be the best game ever, and CD PROJEKT RED has a well-deserved good reputation, but people are still handing over money for a product they have no idea whether or not will be awesome, great, good, mediocre, or plain bad.

A million preorders is cause for the industry to bow its head in shame and sorrow. This is what our hobby has degenerated into, and it's not looking like it's going to become better any time soon.

Preorders will be fine in two days, after the reviews have been allowed to sink in. At that point the preorder is justified. Right now though, this is a dark day for gaming, and that it's being celebrated makes it even darker.

To those of you who preorder games blindly: Shame on you!

1: I didn't preorder but I do have it waiting to be download, due to the nvida promotion...

2: Really?  Blindly preordering?  It's the 3rd game of the series, people know what to expect from CD Projekt Red.  It's not like it's some new company

3: When has preordering ever been considered bad?

4: We should be more upset about DLC, that has ruined the industry.

So I grabbed it.  Wow it's fast.  Before upgrading I did a benchmark test using 3dmark's firefight.  My old GPU was a XFX R9 270x.  My score was in the 5000's.

My new card, same test, 25k!

Screaming!

I do get some hitching in Arma 3.  I had the similar effect in COD Advance Warfare 2 when I had my R9 270.  I'm not sure what's causing that.

So Nvidia just announced that if you buy certain nvidia cards you can get witcher 3 and the new batman game for free.

I have a XFX r9 270 2 GB and looking at a evga overclocked GFX 970.  It has 4 GB of ram, and will work with my powersupply

The question is, is it worth it?

A little history...

I previously had the 6970 from XFX, after about 2 years, it bit the dust.  I had a lifetime warranty and got it replaced for free with the card I have now.  I only had that for 6 months.  It handles most games that I throw, but I there are some games where I have to turn things down.  I was thinking this would be a good time to upgrade, get two free games, and sell my current card to make the deal even sweeter.

my current specs is a i7 (i forget which one, but it's not slow)
8 GB of ram (again not sure on type, but it's not slow)
250 GB SSD
XFX r9 270

What do you think?  Worth the time, or should I wait?

My friend Kvothe is allowed in there and he told me there hasn't been a new post there in over a month.

You're friend Kvothe?  Dude quit lying, I already proved it was you and banned your alt.  And considering you were given your final warning and on your last straw, trying to flaunt that isn't the smartest way about doing things.
