once I got the stuttering issues taken care of (Fullscreen window enabled) I gotta say the campaign is impressive.  I usually hate the campaign because they throw so much at you without much knowing what the hell is going on.  The amount of detail is awesome.

Thanks guys.  I think I'm going to return it.  I was able to view the list of songs, and the microtransactions bug the hell out of me.  Like I said, impulse buy, and didn't do any research.

So on Black Friday, Target had the Supreme edition for $50 (comes with two guitars and 500+ songs) It was an impulse buy for the kids (and me) for Christmas. My son is going to be 7, and his exposure to music is mainly christian music and kid centric music. Having not really played much of RockBand\Guitar Hero I was wondering if there's anyway to limit what songs he could play along with. Is the music included kid friendly in terms on language and subject matter? Ethan is really good with rhythm and tone, and we thought he would enjoy the concept of the game.

I'm just hoping there is some sort of filter that I can apply to limit what he hears.

Too many locations for my taste, can't get a decent grip on any story

1) The Saviors compound
2) Alexandria
3) Hilltop
4) The Kingdom
5) Oceanside
6) Carol out in her own house
7) Probably missing some place somewhere....

I didn't mind this episode but the ending where Rosita is asking Tara about where to find guns seemed a bit clumsy, why would she think Tara knows where a bunch of guns are?  Why is a female asking this when we know a whole group (coven?  hehe sorry) of women have a stockpile of them?  If Tara knew where guns where why would Rosita think she was hiding that information?

That had more to do with Rosita's desperation for ammunition (which was referenced previously).

I think it had more to do with whether Tara keeps her promise about not telling them about her discovery.  Don't know why it matters now that they tried to kill her.

Seriously is anyone still playing this? Hell, does anyone still even have the game installed? After months of radio silence, the most hated and criticized game since Daikatana just got a massive "foundation" patch that adds a ton of fixes and new features including base building, player purchaseable freighters, new game modes, and numerous interface and graphic improvements. It's the first in what Sean Murray claims is a series of patches to make the game what they envisioned.

To be honest, so many new games have come out since No Man's Sky release, I've moved on from it. That plus the major disappointment I felt after playing the game has made it difficult to be interested again, but I'll probably try it again eventually after they release another patch to fix more bugs and flesh out the new stuff that was added in this latest patch release.

So base building is what they had envisioned?  That's funny because I don't recall any of that in the trailers\video demos.  I think they are just trying to save face.  It's too late.

More peaches and cream Polygon take...
Small issues aside, Battlefield 1 marks an impressive, risk-taking reinvention for the series. That the multiplayer is as good and distinctive as it is is less surprising than a campaign that takes a difficult setting and navigates it with skill and invention. The end result is a shooter than succeeded far beyond my expectations, and one that exists as the best, most complete Battlefield package since 2010.
I'd still like to see a review by someone with little or no experience in the previous Battlefield games (like me, but don't look for a hopeless BF schmuck like me to review this  smirk)

My son has expressed a lot of interest.  I've been trying to use it as a reward for not sucking his thumb for 2 weeks straight in hopes it would break the habit.  But he doesn't seem to care..  With his new diagnosis of ADHD, they said immediate rewards seem to do better.  So I'm thinking of changing it up do a few hours or a day or something.

We have a PS4.  I have a HTPC with no dedicated video card, but not sure if would handle Minecraft.  The PS4 version has good reviews, but I guess you can't add mods.

Is there a demo I can try to see if my HTPC can handle it?

Other than the mod limitation, is the PS4 worthwhile?

I don't think it was false advertising.  I think it's more of,  I'm not going to tell you what the game is about because it's a big secret and it would ruin the suprise.  But in reality he chose to not detail the game because there really wasn't much to it and know that it would be polarizing amongst gamers.

So I bought it. I do like it. The Tech is cool, I got my ship flying. Need to build a hyper drive next. The crafting actually makes sense in terms of what to do. I always had a hard time in rpg's and mmos crafting items because there was no hand holding. Atmosphere is great! Love the music.

But it feels incredibly empty at the same time, and looking a head It seems its going to be repetitious. I know the main point in the game is to find the center of the universe. But is that all there is to do? Collect, craft and be merry? This game screams and begs to have a story, an several objectives, conflict. Another year of production, and\or a bigger team could have worked wonders.

I'm impressed with what he has done so far. I'm just not sure if I want to move forward after hearing how repetitious it is after a while. I have 20 minutes before I'm no longer eligible to return. I'm thinking I should wait a while and for a sale. Cool idea, just needs to be fleshed out more.

Huh.  I still didn't know about the survival stuff, until I just read it in your post.  Yeah, that's a big strike against the game, if that's the case.  I have no interest in survival games.  Like you, I've tried them, and they're just not for me.

For me, my interest was all about the exploration.  In fact, the potential for that is so good, I'm hoping to hear that the survival stuff is very simple and just sprinkled into the game, because I'd like to enjoy it.

Not sure if you were paying attention to the trailers the last month, but more and more it screamed survival in space than explore in space.  Sorry collecting items and constantly meeting checklists in order to survive doesn't scream fun for me.  I'm willing to try it once it's below $15.  i think we'll see a big price drop soon.  It already has a limited audience based on the type of game.  I'd argue the hype enticed people to buy who wouldnt normally buy it.

So.. you can't reload your gun in game?  has to be done in a menu?  Wow.

I had the same impression.  When I read he'd rushed to the center, I stopped paying attention.

He specifically said he did not speed run to the center.

Right, but neither did I.

Despite what he may have said later that he still had to do, he made a point of saying he finished the game in 30 hours, which, given the type of game this is, means he rushed to do so.

Or Sean Murray had overhyped the game as he has done, and the fact that his studio has run into several problems during development... it wouldn't be a stretch to assume he's been lying much about his game as developers do.

Here's the finished video.  I had some issues with the editing software.  It appears the Elk Grove portion the sound is messed up.  Share with your kids if you like.  It's 30 minutes long, not too exciting, but if you are interested in garbage trucks this is fun to see the different kinds and colors.

A little note, In Taiwan... Garbage trucks don't go house to house.  The community hauls their trash to a centralized location where the truck shows up and takes it all.  Then they haul the empty bins back to their homes\businesses.

Man it's been a whirlwind the last few days.  I had no idea it was going to be this big and spread so far.  I just saw an article in India this morning.

We took Ethan out of school on Monday since we were worried someone would spill the beans.  We had some interviews over the weekend and we've heard some people at his school saw.  Probably wasn't the best decision, but we were too caught up in the moment.

Yesterday, we started out the day as if it was a normal day.  I didn't get much sleep the night before, worrying about how we're going to keep him away from the media prior to the reveal.  I was too worried they'd spill the beans.  He did his morning treatments and got ready to school like any other day.  When we arrived, the media was already camped out, some already reporting at 5am.  He asked why they were there and we told him we didn't know.  When the gates opened we waited a few more minutes and then walked a round about way to avoid the media in case they recognized us.  The next obstacle was hoping the kids didn't say anything.

Then it was time, the kids lined up to form a tunnel, and Ethan was escorted out with his principal with his school mates cheering him on while waving wands with stars on the top.  When he finally came to view he stopped and that's when he noticed the garbage truck.  He asked why was that there and then realized his name was on it.  He then ran to through the banner, and I gave him a huge hug.  He was so excited.

He was given the key to our city of Rancho Cordova, and then got him dressed into his garbage man uniform.  Then our journey began with a motorcade escorted by our local police, sheriff and Sacramento city police.  Our first stop was VSP, a company who makes eye glasses.  He met the Global CEO and president.  They showered him with gifts like lego garbage trucks, sunglasses, hats, and they even gave Lila her own Lego garbage truck and glasses.

We then picked up their trash and then traveled to Sacramento using city streets.  We stopped at the Sacramento Bee, where he met the president of the Bee, and picked up their garbage.  Each stop had a super hero (Reuse, Recycle and I can't remember the 3rd R)  Each superhero would teach him about the environment and how the three R's help.  We then headed off to the local firestation where he got to get in a fire truck.  They were also hosting the local toy drive which was the last day.  He got to choose where they got to go for donation.  I didn't hear what he chose as the media was swarming over him at every stop.  He also met one of the soccer players from Sacramento FC Republic where he got his own custom jersey with his name on it, a signed soccerball, and tickets to a game.

Then we headed to my work, where I couldn't believe how many people were lining the streets.  I work in a 25 story high rise, and I think the building was empty.  When asked at the Capitol, Ethan said Daddy's work was his favorite stop.  He got to lift paper products into the recycle compactor, and met the trash monster and Recycle Rex.  He was given a hazmat suit, a hand drawn cartoon with him in a garbage truck and other items.

Then we headed to Frank Fats a prominent resturaunt in Sacramento where he met the owners, picked up their trash.  We were given a gift card to eat at one of their locations.

Then the main event was held at the State Capitol, where hundreds were waiting for him.  I placed him on my shoulders and we ran to the stage with the theme song from Rocky in the background.

It was there were Sacramento got to meet Ethan.  He met the Mayor-elect Darrel Steinburg, the Sacramento President of Waste Management, the Chief of Police of Sacramento.  The Governor of Jerry Brown was in Philly, so a representative read a letter written by the governor to Ethan, thanking him for his service as a garbage man.  The President of the Sacramento Kings, Rivercats, and the Sacramento FC were there.  At one point Ethan was asked what was his favorite baseball team.  He yelled GO DODGERS at my dismay.  He does it to get a reaction out of me, which he did as I got up from the stage with my hands in my face.  The rivercats president wasn't please since they are the Giants affiliate team.  It was then we were told that Ethan was given tickets to the Sacramento Republic soccer match, tickets to the rivercats, and tickets to the kings with a personal behind the scene tour of the new arena.

Ethan was in his element answering questions from the press.  At no point he was shy.  I can't believe how well he handled the attention, the camera and the busyness of the day.  We then had lunch, and ended our day sitting in the seat of the Governor.  Ethan was even playing on his computer.  That's when I opened my big mouth in front of the Governor's staff and said, Ethan log in and give your daddy a raised, not 3% but 7-10% smile

We then were driven back home.  Ethan received about 9 garbage trucks from various donors along with some other toys.  He also received a mini-dumpster that is now his toy chest.

Then there's the media.  It was overwhelming but exciting at the same time.  It gave the world a break from the craziness we've had over the last several weeks.  I've seen his story in India, had a live phone interview with an Ontario TV station, and my wife did an interview with  It's crazy how this was covered, way beyond what we expected.  I'm glad it happened as it made people aware of CF and of Make a Wish.

It also has some negative effects.  It was overheard at his school that some kids were saying he was going to die...  Our fear as some kid is going to tell him that.  As we havent' had the full talk.  I'm sure it also caused children to ask questions about life as well.  It was never our intention to make others worry about themselves.

But overall, Ethan was a garbage man for the day, and he had the time of his life!  Thanks for being apart of it and all the support you have given him!

I'm hearing they are running an article about this. Yes, Toronto, clear across the continent.

I was wondering if you could mail me the newspaper if it happens? I'm assuming it will be tomorrow's paper or the day after.

I know i can probably find it online, buy wife likes to scrapbook, so print would be best.

I also just had an AP interview that might make the national news. how crazy is all of this. Ethan still has no idea, and it's becoming difficult to not talk in front of him. We kept him out of school today because 1st graders talk, and we've been over the local news all weekend.
