Thanks for prefacing this post by saying, "no, it's not me"...

Hey, I know this forum well.

Well we tried the natural fingernail polish that had cayenne pepper and citris extract.  He didn't flinch.  Moved on to a nail polish that is used for nail biting and sucking, but it was chemically based.  He could care less, sucked away.

So, we'll just have to wait it out.  Gonna try the reward stuff.  We did that recently for staying in his bed all night and that worked.  Now it's time to try it with thumb sucking.

I don't like using Origin, but I have to admit it's better than this other service I won't name that's analogous in a way I won't mention.  It's really just because of the person place or thing I won't mention.

Didn't that one get bought by GameStop and fade out of existence?

It's on ORIGIN, a system that is just as stable as Steam and gets an unfair reputation.  It's also the only platform that has a refund policy on digital games.  You won't find that on Steam.

And I'm not talking bad on Steam, steam is just as great.

I am likewise following and very interested, but a little cautious, especially after the latest SimCity debacle.

I'm particularly interested in knowing how the simulation, traffic, and difficulty holds up as city size increases. So far, all the comments and Let's Play videos I've seen have dealt with small, starter communities where it's obviously pretty easy for things to go smoothly. If anyone sees anything that talks about the later parts of the game, I'd love a link.

- Ash

The person who did the lets play video I posted had a live twitch feed yesterday and he had a huge city.  He had traffic issues, but was able to improve his road systems to address the problem areas.  The game itself didn't seem so difficult, but he could have been playing with the included cheat mode on that gave him infinite money.

In the video I posted he said the game was challenging.  So far I haven't seen any challenging aspects, but most of my time viewing was early on in the game where not everything was unlocked.

I preordered, for $21, it was a no brainer

This game is coming out next week, and yesterday was the day the embargo lifted.  Lots of lets play type videos are now out in the wild, and I must say it looks awesome.

Greenmangaming.com has it for $21 if you are a VIP member.

Check it out.

8  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Thumb sucking on: February 27, 2015, 07:23:46 PM
No, it's not me...

My 5 year old still sucks his thumb.  It's a comfort thing as well as habit.  I know it's bad for the teeth, and in all honesty I wouldn't care so much if he didn't have Cystic Fibrosis.  I'm more worried about the germ factor and the increased risk of getting sick.  That has more of a detrimental effect to his health than worrying about his teeth in my eyes.  When he's sick, it means more treatments, more fights, and missing school more often.

We told him when he turned 5, he has to stop sucking his thumb.  We gave him a weeks notice, and for the first few days, he did stop for the most part.  Occasionally we'd catch him, and when we made him aware of his habit he would take it out without a fight.  A week later he's back at it and says he can't stop.  So there's some options that I've seen.  One of them I like is nail polish.  They make natural ones where uses pepper extracts but I heard they are not as effective.  The other's are chemically based, and my wife doesn't like that option, fearing he'd be ingesting them.  I'm thinking of trying the natural one first and if that doesn't work then move up to the chemical one if needed.

How did you get your kids to stop?

http://www.gamespot.com/articles/horror-scenes-as-destiny-player-deletes-stranger-s/1100-6425419/

Short story, kid invited a stranger via shareplay to take over his controller supposedly to help him pass a level in destiny.  Kid steps away for a minute and comes back to see that the stranger deleted his lvl 31 and 22 character and dismantled a weapon.  You can hear him saying NO NO NO, and then turns off the PS4.  He boots backs in, deletes the guy from his list, goes back into the party he was in and sarcastically tells him "Thanks, I didn't need those characters and weapon" and then leaves.  He then loads up the game and while it's loading you can hear him sobbing.

I felt so bad for him.  What an ass the stranger is.  And let this be a lesson to not let people you don't know take control.

It takes place about 13 minutes in.

Well, we're all on even playing ground now.  As far as my niners are concerned, they rather be bad to mediocre instead of being successful and having to deal with an ultra competitive coach.  There's been reports that ownership told Harbaugh he wouldn't be back next year after the loss to Seattle in December.   So much for "mutal agreement"  Just tells you that Harbaugh was pretty classy when it came to his fate.  He could have easily fought the whole time, make them fire him, take the $5 million he was owed and then get paid again by Michigan.  Just shows you how stupid York is.

As far as the rest of football goes, there needs to be some major changes on player conduct and officiating.  Both were huge distractions and both need to be addressed.

What does your team need to do this offseason?

49ers need to go back to the power run game.  Don't know if that's going to be possible if Gore leaves.  Kap needs to improve with getting the play off in time, reading defenses, and making better decisions.

49ers need to go back in time and not fire Harbaugh and instead just fire Roman.

If it's an actual outpost (smoke coming out of it), and it has actually been cleared (you get the cinematic showing it's cleared), then there's no way they respawn because good guys take over and you have missions and a safehouse inside there.

I think you're talking about something other than an outpost, or else you didn't actually clear it all the way.

It's not an outpost.  Others keep talking about outposts, but I never mentioned it was.  My original observation said I was doing a karma mission and 3 guys were camped out next to a turrent.  I killed them, and then used the turrent to do some redneck hunting.  Went to go claim my skins, but before doing so got attacked by an eagle.  When I got rid of that I turned around and the 3 guys I had killed had respawned 3 minutes after all of that.  It was within the map that was cleared  out (IE not in Fog of War, which means that area's outpost was already cleared)  Again I wasn't at an outpost, I was out in the forest/countryside exploring doing a karma mission.

I didn't see the guard respawning as an issue. In FC2 if you wiped out a roadblock you'd just assume that central command would roll out a new set of guards as soon as they found out there was a problem. It would be unrealistic if you just sat there indefinitely and more guards didn't show up, but I can understand that the flow of the game intended that you'd vacate the premises and once you were beyond a certain radius the guards would reappear.

In FC4 as mentioned above, once you take an outpost most of the bad guys in the area are gone, but otherwise you assume that that new patrols are being sent out to find out what happened to the old ones.

Well there's definetely respawning of guards.  I was doing a Karma mission, had to kill a commander.  They were station near a stationary machine gun.  After clearing them out, I saw some wild animals and figured I'd go hunting redneck style.  But then a freaking eagle was near by.  I spent two rounds of trying to kill the eagle, and when I did, the two animal corpses I was going for were gone, and then I heard something behind me at a distance.  I turn around what do you know, the same guard camp I just cleared out is fully populated with more guards.

This is farcy 2 all over again.

No, camps only repopulate if you haven't taken out the Stronghold in the area.  And you will get a radio call asking for help if one of them is going to be attacked again.  It's not really like Far Cry 2 at all in that respect.  I think you're reading too much into some random encounters or other enemies driving into the area.
No, it's exactly like far cry2 in how they do things.  In far cry2 you could be riding or walking along and come up to a crossroad or a point of interest with enemy guards at it.  You clear them out and you literally travel like a hundred feet, turn around the guards you just cleared popped right back up.

That's exactly what happened last night.  I was inside a just cleared outpost and started exploring the area.

So I haven't played enough to know for sure, but I think I ran into some respawning...  Can anyone confirm?  Farcry2 did it, and it was horrible.  I don't recall Farcry 3 doing it, and if they did it was much smarter about it.

Last night I was doing a side quest, and I ran into some wolves.  I killed them, and realized I went to far from my objective.  I reached my objective and the 2nd part of the objective was past the part where I originally went to far.  When I came back the same 3 wolves were back.

I absolutely hate this cheap tactic by lazy developers.  Nothing ruins immersion than that. Games like No One Lives Forever did this and it went down from what could have been a cool game to a shitty game because of it.

Anyone else see this type of respawning?
25  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Far Cry 4 on: January 28, 2015, 04:53:29 PM
Got this yesterday for a great deal, and man it's pretty.

Had a fun moment doing my first quest after the prologue.  I was sent to a farm to take care of some wolves who were killing the farm animals.  I was tasked to destroy the wolves den after taking out the wolves.  Inside the den was a gas canister and figured I'd blow it up with my fire arrow.  Well still learning the controls, I accidentally threw in bait.  I said to myself, crap there some perfectly good meat wasted, but didn't think anything else of it.  I figured I was ok because there wasn't any tigers/scary animals nearby.  Then I heard the tiger roar...  And I'm stuck in the cave trapped.  I managed to get by the tiger's leap, and accidentally shot the tiger with my fire arrow catching him and everything around me on fire.  Fire moved to my 4 wheeler and blew that up.  I ended using a normal arrow to blow up the gas canister which made no sense to me.

Fun chain of events

Bandwagon? Hate Seattle fans?

Don't paint with such a broad brush, guys. I've been on this bandwagon since 1984. I watched this game from home today and even I was doubting it after Russell's 4th pick. Even after winning the SB last year, 28 years or so of SOS (Same Old Seahawks) is hard to shake. The Seahawks have been an excellent team for 3 years now and every team has a bad game now and then. Even after being "exposed," I was ready to call it a season.

But wait, there's more!

Freakin' Russell Wilson and his ability to make nothing into something. Jermaine Kearse going 0/4 with 2 INTs directly off his hands, then catching the 35 yd walk-off TD. And Marshawn Lynch running for 157? I don't think we were "exposed." We played to win. GB played not to lose.

2 more weeks. Bring on Brady.

Just because you were a fan (and I believe you since you live in the area) doesn't mean most of your fanbase were fans prior to 2012.  Heck it's widely been known that prior to your recent success, you could see more visiting team jerseys than home team.  I'm sorry, but you have alot of people who are on the bandwagon.  That doesn't take anyway from you or other true fans.

I mean to be clear, Levi's Stadium is going to be just like that within the next five years.

I can see that, only because of the new stadium and tickets being so expensive.  I know when I had season tickets during the 2-14 year the games were still selling out and most of the people there were 49ers fans, unless it was the 49ers vs Raiders game.  Most of the 49ers fans chickened out and sold their tickets.  That parking lot and stadium was a sea of silver and black that Sunday.

But as to your comment, I do agree, with the quality of the team soon to go down, and the cost of owning the seats, you are going to see alot of 3rd party ticket sells to visiting teams.  I don't think it's due to bandwagon, I think this case is due to more of economics.
