Forsaken World (PC) again... and again... and again...

You folks who can play more than one game at a time just amaze me - you know me, if I get a game between my teeth, I will shake it, flip it, and worry it to death until it is subdued.  I should have been a bull terrier I guess.

Oh, I missed one?  MyToe... hmmm.  (*reaching for 'kick" button.)   icon_biggrin

I was confused to get that Invite, to say the least!  I was killing off some low-level mobs for a minor quest, outside of Harbor City, somewhat in the middle of nowhere.  I got the party invite and accepted to see what was up - and then the fun began.  I had no idea that there was a party in town trying to save the Lighthouse and it became a real "Who's on first?" moment.  Where are you?  Go up what hill?  wtf?  If I hadn't been so tired right then, I would have found and joined the event, but I was fading fast, so that's why Bantu got the call.

Don't worry, though, Ricc - you haven't lost any guild cred with me!  Until, of course, I think of something that will end with the statement, "Well, don't forget - You Owe Me!"  Wait for it...

In one short thread, I've gone from mytocles, to myto, to mytoc, and now MyToc?  I must be multi-dimensional... or something.   Tongue

Tbh, I don't know that much about the corps.  I know that you can talk to each other in corps chat, which will give you nice, dark green print, lol - and maybe it's a way to divide up the folks if your guild gets overloaded, but that's about it.  It does remove that designation "probationary" or whatever it is, so if you want to be moved into one, just ask.  I'm sure we will end up finding out something quite complicated about it, and discover that we moved all the wrong people into all the wrong corps, but oh well.

We may have to form a GT Corps if our current rate of inductees continues - and that would be GamingTrend, not to be confused with God's Trial, of course.

This is a good time to put in a note about the process of buying money for the game - which you can do through Perfect World Entertainment, btw, from somewhere on the startup screen or their home page.  The important thing to know is that they don't send it to you immediately, and it is a little confusing, so people freak out when they've paid their money and see nothing for it.  I think I read somewhere that it was a 24 hour delay, but I bought some to expand my storage (to my normal pack rat level) and I got it quicker than that.

There is also a convoluted way to convert what you buy from them, because they sell you "leaves" - yeah, go figure... and you need to convert those if you want it in game gold.  There's a whole collection of stuff you can buy with the leaves, but I didn't know about that so I converted it all, then bought the storage with gold.  Anyway, if you do it and want some gold, buy Mercury Statuettes with the leaves and sell those.  An NPC gives you 3 gold apiece for them, but players in game will offer more, so don't convert it all with the NPC.

In the upper right corner of your screen is an icon of a green leaf - how appropriate - if u select that, it brings you to the Boutique where you can buy storage, pets, gems, etc. by using the leaves.  If you want some cash, get those Statuettes for that.  Cash is a bit tight at the start, but of course, true RPGers are used to that, right?

Ricc, I'd be glad to do guild instances this weekend, I have lots of time as far as I know now... and I'm almost recovered from that EPIC God's Trial, lol.  Almost!  I can definitely give you the rundown on Creekbank Valley, which is a lot of fun, imo.  CV and GT are the two I know the best, and do the best.

We should also party up with any GT folks who can do level-appropriate quests like "Quell the Elements" - the enemies leading up to the Boss aren't too bad, but the Boss can be tough.  I can solo him though, so we could do that quest pretty quickly.  It gives XP plus Socialite points when done in a party, and may also be one of the Main ones, which eventually leads to job points. There are lots of others, but it is 4:30 AM after all...   icon_eek

Faide - I answered your question last night, but only after you had already logged off, since I was seeing our company out the door.  Do NOT worry about Contribution and Merit too much yet, there's plenty of time for that.  Just don't sell the special coins you get if you can help it, like the Moonlight Coins - those can be given to the Guild rep for points.  The rest of it takes care of itself, you will earn Zeal and Merit points after finishing certain quests and they will accumulate on the guild lists.  Our guild is not manic about that, like most others are - yes, we want to progress, but we actually want to have fun as well.  The points will take care of themselves.

Mmmm, that's it for now, I guess.  No company coming tomorrow either!

On the PVE Storm server is there any sort of PvP lite on there aka any sort of battle grounds etc...?

I'm afraid I don't know much about PvP, but I do know that when you reach a certain level (30?) your server is not technically a PvE anymore.  You can choose PvE, but you also have to make sure in some settings that you are shown that you aren't interested in PvP (something to do with the color of your name).  It freaked me out the first time I saw the warning that I "could be attacked by players" but it is to accommodate both modes on one server, as far as I can tell.  There are places that are Arenas, and this might be what you are looking for, but I'm not sure if they are open at all levels on the PvE.  They are certainly open at level 30, because I've seen - and avoided - them!

Did that answer anything near your question, lmao?  This is not my area of expertise, to put it quite mildly...

Oh, "shorthanded"- that is quite the understatement!  Our party leader accidentally signed us up for the Advanced God's Trial, one person had a power failure upon stepping into the instance, one must have thought we were Doomed and quit, and another d/c'ed halfway through.  Essentially we did it as a 3 person party, and it was earicci's first go-round with that instance to boot.  God's Trials are frenetic enough to mind-blast most first-timers, lol, so it was EPIC.  We probably asked each other whether we should quit ten or twelve times, but we just kept going... and eventually won.  Good times, without doubt.

I know what you mean about playing too long;  it is now 3:15 AM and I just got off the game.  I believe it was faide/Phayn who commented tonight that he was on longer than expected as well, at least I know it was a GT'er anyway.  We are really starting to represent and I wouldn't be surprised if some folks from FW end up joining GT - people have been asking about it.

Yeah, it was Forsaken World all weekend (+) long, but also some laptop shopping on Monday.  It took a while to get it all set up, so I played half the time on my burned out Dell, and half the time on my "ooh shiny" new MacBook Pro.  I was a happy camper - and it's now 2 AM, so everything is back to normal!

Well, I bought a MacBook Pro (this week though, on the 4th of Jooly)... it's odd not having to look over, under, around, and through the giant black splotch that was in the center third of my fried display.

Oh, yeah - and Dell sucks, in case anyone didn't get that memo.   disgust

Okay, so we now have a Guild to direct anyone to who wants to join.  We have a few (probably) juveniles, but you get that anywhere, so "Oh Well," I guess.  At least it is a place where you can get the Guild benefits, without being in those Freshman guilds, and we can talk to each other, get help, etc.  Right now, we are only a Level One guild, so I'm the only one who can Invite you in, but when we reach level 2, I can name Officers and abdicate most of my onerous tasks!

I'm on a lot, and I can Invite to the guild if you send me a PM and we are online at the same time, so if anyone wants to join, let me know here or in a PM and we can work it out.

I will do my best to keep an eye on this thread... but, my laptop display has chosen this moment in time to start to fail.  We've had nothing but trouble with this machine from the first, but this makes it nearly unusable.  Thee is a giant swatch of black running from the upper left to the lower right of the screen - like a calligrapher with black paint was trying to make a statement.

I'm hoping we can hook it up to a monitor, but I have to wait for my in-home expert to get... in-home-from-work.  Maybe it's time to go back to Gateway, or on to Apple;  this Dell has been very, very mean to me!

Those post-level 30 PvE/ PvP choices are not in the Game Settings under that cog-like System icon I mentioned.  I didn't look on the way in, unfortunately, so I can only guess right now that it's in the main page choices, but before you get into the game.   icon_confused

Teggy, I'm a total PC game neophyte, so I don't know what you mean by micro-transactions speeding progress... but:  there are several levels of Chat, freely available except for World Chat.  You don't have to buy a "world flute" to use it, though, you can earn them in game.  I haven't used it yet myself, most players who use it are either selling something or asking for players of a certain type (like Priest and Protector, you won't lack for party invites with those.)  Oh, yeah, and the juvenile delinquents who just have to say those stupid comments that are weighing on their miniature brains.  You know, the usual MMO kiddie speak.

You can spend real money if you want to, but there doesn't seem to be anything you absolutely need to buy with anything other than game gold.  I hope that helps!

Lol, CeeKay, yeah I'm just a Bad Player... not a Baaaad-A**** Player.  I wish!   Roll Eyes

For the PvP level 30 choices - I'm pretty sure those choices are in Settings, the bronze cog/gear looking thing at the top right of your screen when in-game.  I'll check and get back to you on that... if I remember I said so.

The Auction House takes a little getting used to, but the most important thing to know is that there is a range of prices you can enter for sales, and two choices when buying (Bid and Buyout).  Probably the most important factor in auctioning is to know that every Auction on the AH is based on single unit prices, and unless someone puts one item up for auction, you cannot buy only one item at a time from any lots on auction.

When selling, first enter the range of a single item that would be your minimum price (and the buyer's bid) and next, the "buyout" price - the maximum price you'd accept for each (again, single) item.  When bidding or buying from the AH, you are not allowed to buy only one item of a 5-item auction, and when you choose buyout, you are buying out the lot.  I don't know if my description is any less confusing than the system itself, lol, but once you've used it a few times, it's much easier to do.  I'll put a little more info and an example in Spoiler - don't confuse yourself by reading it if you think you get it, though, I'm not the best explainer:

Spoiler for Hiden:
Example:  I have 20 potions that I want to sell.  I can use the Auction search tab to search for the same item to see the going prices, or go to the "My Auction" tab, put the item into the sell box, and choose "Compare."  This Compare function is not perfect, there are times when it won't find items that are on sale.  If you think that might be so, use Search instead, or even browse if needed.
Next: Set the lowest single-unit price you hope to get, and the buyout price (what the whole lot goes for, but based on the unit price).  Be careful of the numbers you enter, their system is a bit oddly spaced - the furthest number to the right is "Copper" and working your way to the left is Silver, then Gold, and finally Diamond. There are 100 Coppers in a Silver, 100 Silvers in a gold, and 100 Gold in a Diamond.
So, if my items were selling for between 2 silver and 6 silver, I put 2 into the Silver slot and people can bid for the lot at the next higher bid, or they can choose Buyout and buy them all at once.  You get one more choice to back out or not, when the numbers are totaled for you - in this case, the Buyout would be 120 Silver (if i used 6 as my buyout price), or 1 Gold, 20 Silver.
Confused yet?  Now you know how I feel all of the time, lmao.  Good Luck!

TIP:  When you hit level 30, you might think you logged on to the wrong server all of a sudden.  Whenever you leave town or from a teleport area, you are warned that you've left a "safe area" and can be attacked by other players.  I must have logged in 3 times before I knew it wasn't something I did.  Google told me that there are settings that specify whether you want to engage in PvP;  the "safe area" messages are still given out, but now I know I can ignore them. I've been playing from 30 to almost-40 and the only thing different so far, is that someone sent me a duel request once.  I declined, case closed (whew!)

Lol, Raz!   icon_twisted

I'm on Storm PvE (US East).

Jers, you will be on foot for a little while, it's part of the game, but you don't have to buy a mount -depending on how your Reputation and gold supply is.  I believe you need a Rep of 4, and you definitely need 30 gold (Soul Gold I think, not certain, but not real money at least.)  They do have special mounts that I think are only available by purchase, but they have to make their money somehow.

As far as I know the auto-route doesn't go away, and you can use it in several ways.  You can click on the map or the mini-map, or you can browse or search for various names in a section that comes up when you select the map.  Almost every quest has the name of the NPC, mob, or location that you need to find, and you can click on it and it will auto-route you.  There are a few quests, called "Special" quests that you won't be given the link, but there is enough information out there on the 'Net that you can find walkthroughs fairly easily.

I'm level 39 and I have only been to 3 places on the map, including the starting town - there are at least 8, with room to make more, so they may not even be done adding stuff to the game.  Yeah, there is a ton of stuff to do, most of which I have barely scratched the surface of.  Also, it's remarkable how well the game is done and the only real problem I've seen is infrequent.  Sometimes they go into unannounced maintenance, but it is usually only a few hours, in the middle of the night.  Well, night for me anyway.

Btw, here's a funny thing: on your in-game Friends list, there are two initials that appear in front of your name... and they are GT, lol.  Surely it's Fate.

You want me to put the mouse aside long enough to discuss the game?  While monies may be gathering in my Auction House?  That's a lot to expect!

It's funny, Raz, but I never noticed the game being too anime - I see swords and shields and monsters (oh, my) but you are probably right.  I'll try to look at it with that perspective when I fire up the game later.   It does remind me of FFXI, somewhat, and the armor and clothes for the female characters - and elves! - is rather... flowery, I guess.  Speaking of that reminds me of a negative point about the game: the character builds are rather limited and armor and weapon changes aren't reflected in your appearance.  You won't spend hours designing your toon, and occasionally you may come upon someone who reminds you, quite remarkably, of yourself.  There are lots of races and jobs which will influence your look, so it's not a major detraction, just something many MMO'ers aren't used to.

The big attraction is that the game is free, of course, if you are patient and resist the urge to buy items and gold from PWE (Perfect World Entertainment).  I know myself, and as soon as I realized how much fun the game was to play, I bought more storage/ inventory space.  Most players won't need that, but I never met a plant or an ore that I could walk by, lol.  Money was tight at the start of the game, but is readily available now and I'm looking forward to the rest of the game being free.

I'm drawing a blank right now, but I'd be glad to answer anyone's questions that I can answer. One thing I know is that a powerful "gaming rig" is not a requirement.  I'm playing on my "average" laptop and have had no problems with the game at all.  When I was installing it, I needed a little help, but I doubt anyone here would require the same.  I have noticed that the laptop fan runs pretty much non-stop when I'm in the game, but that's it.

Oh, and btw... I'm level 39 not 29... and I managed it almost entirely with solo play.  Recently I've been partying more because I've found a nice group of folks to play with.  As earicci pointed out, the early levels go pretty fast and if you party up, your progress to upper levels will be even faster.

I'm still blank, probably due to all the sleep I've been missing lately, lol.  Post your questions and I will do my best to take game breaks, check in here, and try to answer them.  There, it's in writing, so it must be true!

The last email I got from Gaming Trend was dated June 1st and it's title was:

Quote
Topic reply: A VERY Important Announcement

I'm guessing by your answer that it might not be Just ME...   icon_eek

Btw, I went through all the Profile stuff but didn't see anything that I'd chosen incorrectly about being notified of posts, etc.  I just discovered that notification of PM's is also not working for me, when a friend emailed me to say he had sent me two PM's.

Thanks, I know how crazy this whole thing must have been for you, so "work at your own pace" - it's not an emergency!

Sorry, I didn't read all three pages of this thread - for one thing, any difference I noticed since the start, I automatically assumed that it was ME at fault, lol.  I added my avatar pic which took me several days to figure out how to do, of course.  The only issue I have left is hopefully an easy, Yes or No answer for anyone who has read the whole thread (CeeKay!) so...

The dreaded rabbit hole is beckoning;  I'll be on Forsaken World (PC MMO) all weekend...   icon_redface

I didn't say what I was going to be playing, but I would have been correct if I had:  "Forsaken World" - all. weekend. long...   icon_eek

I'm right there in the boat with the rest of you "Dungeon Seige 3 depending on reviews" folks.  I have to do more research on the game though;  it will have to look great to drag me away from Forsaken World anytime soon.

I think the price and the Amazon user reviews would lean me toward the Sennheisers - the Astros are $280 used, and the Senns are $225 new, plus it's 4 stars vs. 5 stars.  The other thing I'd watch for (maybe you can find it in the reviews) is the weight, obviously - but also how tightly they clamp onto your head.  I've even noticed a difference between my TB X31s and TB X41s.  The cheaper and earlier X31s have a grip strength that you may like more if you are the player who whips your head around a lot - but you may not like if you are prone to headaches.  Imo, it's not a prohibitive difference, per se, but something else to help you pingpong back and forth on your hunt for the perfect headphones.

Good luck!

mytocles, the indentured servant of the mmorpg world!

You couldn't be more wr... wro... okay, right! But I have a plan this time.  Okay, it's not that great, but I did vow never to start or run a clan or guild ever again... and so far I've stuck to that.  I joined the "freshman guild" which is a place u can get the benefits (ie, certain quests only available through a guild) but won't feel so damned umbilically attached to the game.  That's the theory anyway, lol.

I'm not a great player and I solo almost everything so I can work at my own speed, which is why I don't join parties often.  I still enjoy seeing and "hearing" the people around me though and occasionally answering a question or providing an item to folks who need them.  It makes the game more real-life-y I guess.

And I have a steed and a pet, oh yeah.    nod

They've started adding support for free to play games now.

of course if you're in Australia you have to pay 50 bucks for them biggrin

I have only played Champions (briefly). Any opinions about the other 4 games being offered?

Forsaken World is supposed to be a decent MMORPG. I haven't played it yet myself, but my friends that are seem to be enjoying it.

I'm dragging myself away from FW as we speak (okay, type) - it is reminiscent of FFXI, imo.  Since I'm 99% a console player, I'm having trouble adjusting to the flood of new and unfamiliar info, but I really like it.  It has it's issues, but "free" is FREE, of course. And it gives my thumbs a rest, which is nice...

Is anyone else here playing it?  As usual, I can Craft up a storm, not so good at partying, but if you need "stuff" just send me a Friend thingie and if I can figure out how to answer it, whatever I can make, fish, cook, etc., is yours!

Though I didn't post what I was planning to play, it turned out to be exactly what I did play.  I forced myself away from my latest addiction (Forsake World, PC) long enough to be driven to my sister's birthday party on Saturday.  It was a nice trip... I played Dungeon Raid on my iPod the whole way there and back.  It made the 3 hour round trip fly by, oh yeah.  When I got home, I fired up FW once again, of course.

Possibly Child of Eden here also, though not for me... my supply of "rhythm and action" is insufficient to enjoy the game as anything other than an observer.  But it sounds entertaining!

I seem to be addicted to three games at once, in the only way I can manage - with totally different controls for each.  Depending on circumstances, I will probably be playing Forsaken World (PC), Avatar Legends (XBLA), and Dungeon Raid (iPod)... a lot.    icon_eek
79  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [XBLA] The Avatar Legends (Indie Fable lite with Avatars) on: May 26, 2011, 09:05:23 PM
So far:

Slightly rocky start - it took the usual "forever" to DL the game, plus there is already an update for it, though that was pretty quick;
Simple controls (yay);
Simple controls (boo);
It's very cute, again Yay or Boo depending on your outlook;
Load the game first, then Pause and choose Settings to find the camera control, can invert horizontal and/or vertical;
There are difficulty settings (3 or 4, I've already forgotten, of course);
It appears to be save-anywhere, it may be different for Bosses, but I haven't found one yet;
There doesn't seem to be a mini-map - most people will have no trouble with that though, the maps are pretty basic for the non-directionally-challenged;
There is day and night, haven't seen any weather yet;
The maps take a little too long to load;
If you get swarmed, you can kite or zone - very minor spoiler:
Spoiler for Hiden:
bridges are your friends
It starts out extremely easy, but you may want to wait until you get more than one enemy at a time before you go up in difficulty.

Okay, that's what I took note of for now.  I suspect folks will want to play this with their kids (if they are allowed to kill trolls) and maybe some friends/ spouses/ sig others will want to duo.  I'm having fun, though I think the more hard-core gamer might be bored by the single player game.  It's kind of nice though to kick back and relax for a change, and so far - no giant spiders, which is a Very Good Thing!

I'll get it too tonight...  ummm what exactly are you supposed to do in it lol?

I'm not entirely sure - probably start by finding the wooden sword, and ahhh, go from there.  I'm gonna go grab it now, if I find out, I'll let you know!
