41  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360/PS3/PC/Wii U/PS4/XB1]Call of Duty:Ghosts on: November 03, 2013, 03:25:55 PM
I'll be getting a copy of this for the 360 for my birthday, which is good because I don't think I would have been able to get it for awhile otherwise.

One last hurrah with COD on the current gen.
42  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [XB1/PS4/PS3/360/PC]Battlefield 4 on: October 06, 2013, 03:56:32 PM
I tried the 360 beta and thought it was ok. It's a battlefield game, so I'm inherently going to enjoy it. But my gaming time has fallen off a cliff this year, and the beta didn't do much to make me want to buy this game.

Cool. Downloading now. I'll give it a shot at lunch.
44  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: GT Werewolf - Game Over. Wolves Win! on: August 15, 2013, 01:25:03 PM
If I had known that the hunter didnt have a shot I wouldn't have revealed myself. FWIW tapatalk doesn't have any of the rules crossed out. Once I saw that I knew the game was lost because the correct move was to then lynch me.

Still fun though, even shortened the way it was. Thanks moliere for running this!
45  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: GT Werewolf game has begun (again)! on: August 13, 2013, 04:03:49 PM
It would take 3 votes for a majority, which means you could never kill a wolf. I would say the wolves would win.
46  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: GT Werewolf game has begun (again)! on: August 07, 2013, 08:27:15 PM
I understand that I'm the most obvious to lynch, but that will only result in a win for the wolves. I don't know why ravenvii falsely claimed seer, but he did. I thought I had a way to prove myself, but with the hunter losing his shot it makes it much more difficult.

I'm not sold on stessier as the hunter. It doesn't make much sense for him to reveal himself when he did. But it's been a couple of days now and nobody has stepped forward to counter the claim. With this being our last chance at getting a wolf, I'm willing to assume that he is the hunter.

That leaves purge, envy24, and jaydee. This hasn't been a very active game, but envy and jaydee have posted almost nothing.

I don't like it. I wish I had more to go on. But...

envy24

So are msteelers and I the only players left?

Possibly, although the game was kind of put on hold when purge said he had something important to say, but we had to wait five days to hear it.

Why should we trust msteelers?  It makes no sense that we lynched a Villager who claimed Seer upon his death but was not actually the Seer.

I think msteelers was trying to draw the non-existent shot.

You'll have to ask ravenvii why he falsely claimed seer. He handicapped the villagers.

The more interesting question is why would the hunter reveal who he was after realizing there is no longer any shot?
49  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Do you wear a watch? on: August 04, 2013, 03:03:29 PM
I just started wearing a watch again a few months ago. I have one watch that I save for special occasions where I need to dress up. I have another watch for more normal occasions.

Needless to say, knowing the time has very little to do with why I like wearing a watch. It's an accessory for me, which is incredibly odd because I usually don't care much about fashion. Example A: I'm currently at work wearing jeans with a hole in the crotch.
50  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: GT Werewolf game has begun (again)! on: August 02, 2013, 05:40:59 PM
4 villagers, 2 wolves. If we miss our lynch today that's 3 villagers and 2 wolves. The night kill would make it 2 villagers and 2 wolves, and a loss for the villagers. So, unless the hunter makes a miracle save, this is our last chance.

So, with that said, I'm the seer. Unfortunately ravenvii proclaimed that he was the seer as he went marching to his death so I'm pretty sure the first reaction is going to be to have me lynched, but that will only end up being a win for the wolves. Last night I scanned Soulchilde, and he was (unfortunately) clean. That means two of Purge, stessier, envy24, and JayDee are the wolves. Now the odds are 50/50 at least of hitting a wolf. And if the Hunter is still alive, he can improve our odds even more.

By shooting me, I will come up human. That will prove Soulchilde is human and give a voting block of two known good guys. This also means the wolves have less places to hide, as 2 out of the remaining 3 unknowns will be wolves. That's a 66% chance of hitting a wolf and extending the game. Those seem to be the best numbers I can come up with.

Oh, and since I might be dead before I get to post again, Stessier and envy would be the only two unprovens to have voted for ravenvii. Just sayin.
51  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: GT Werewolf game has begun (again)! on: July 31, 2013, 12:13:06 PM
ravenvii

I was afraid at first he was the kamikaze wolf, but looking at the numbers even if he kills a human today we have until the day 3 vote to find the other wolf.

52  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: GT Werewolf game has begun (again)! on: July 28, 2013, 03:55:41 AM
I'm changing my vote to envy24 for lack of participation.

Sure, he could be "working" like he claims. Or he could be trying to hide any unseemly tufts of fur.

What would that be exactly?

The expression that you were cured of lycanthropy seemed forced and out of place to me. Plus it bugs me anytime someone leaves their own name off of a list of potential wolves, unless they are a known good guy.

I'm glad to see that I'm not crazy. I downloaded the patch Saturday, started a new game, and have dumped several hours into the new playthrough. I knew the patch was supposed to fix the cars repairing at the games dawn, but it didn't seem like any of the cars were being repaired.

It did seen like I wasn't getting the too many infestations event, but the game started with the two closest homes to the church infested, and that quickly became 4 homes in the starting city. It made the early game brutal, but I was able to clear them out and haven't seen any since.

So far I'm still enjoying it, even with the occasional hiccup.

63  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Xbox One Discussion on: June 08, 2013, 12:59:53 AM
I don't agree with most of the hand wringing about used games, but neither console has done anything that makes me think "I have to have that, now!". In fact, the more I read the more I'm thinking about just finally upgrading to a PC.

Of course, my car just died. So buying anything is out of the question until I get that under control.

My title is sports director at the AM radio station I work at, but in truth I am our play-by-play guy for our sporting events, who moonlights as a producer and talk show host when the need arises.

That doesn't pay that well, so I'm also a machinist. I work part time in my parents machine shop, programming milling machines and generally trying not to impale myself on whatever piece of metal I happen to be working on.

That also doesn't pay all that well, so I got a job working for the Mets. I ran sound for their home spring training games, and will continue to do that over the summer with their minor league team.

I work harder now than I ever have, and make less money. Three cheers for chasing your dreams!!!

I work for a company that focuses on social media- trust me- if the above is true, then your performance on Twitter, LinkedIn, etc. is as much a testament to your ability to do the job as anything else.

What is the gig?

I would be the co-host/producer for an afternoon sports talk radio show, and also be involved for the pre-game show of a certain NFL team. I want this job.

Looking back, twitter and social media isn't mentioned specifically in the job description. But it's kind of a given with any on-air job with radio anymore.

Up your twitter game. They are looking for you to put your money where your mouth is.

This is what I'm thinking, and I've been forcing myself to be more active on twitter in posting. But I don't use my twitter profile to build an audience and most of my friends aren't on twitter. So I have 7 followers, and 5 of them are spam.

Quote from: Suitably Ironic Moniker on February 18, 2013, 11:11:10 PM

I think the bigger reason they are following you is to make sure you aren't posting stupid or offensive tweets, similar to how employers look at people's Facebook pages.

When I saw they were following me I did a mental rundown of my recent tweets to make sure I didn't say anything that made me seem like a giant douchebag.

Quote
As for your second question, a phone call is always the safer, and best, way to follow-up; it shows that you care more than an email or tweet would.

Hmm... Good point. But this is always the hardest part for me. What the hell do I say in the follow up? "Hi, I'm msteelers and I applied for this job. So... what's up?"
69  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Potential new employer is following me on twitter... on: February 18, 2013, 10:18:36 PM
So I applied for a job last week, and now that company is following me on twitter. I didn't mention anywhere in my résumé or cover letter about my twitter account, but I did start following them after I applied for the job. I thought maybe they followed me simply because I started following them, but that doesn't seem to be the case as they have a couple thousand followers but only follow about 400.

Now I feel pressured to perform and be entertaining. What are they looking for? Twitter and social media is a big part of this job, but this is my personal twitter account that I use essentially as an RSS aggregate. I don't use it in the way that I would if I get the job.

Also, I want to follow up on my application. The person in charge of hiring for this position is fairly active on twitter himself, even though its a separate account from the one that is now following me. Should I send him an email, or try to reach him on twitter?

71  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: So How's Your Week Going to Be? on: February 12, 2013, 08:39:54 PM
I applied to two different jobs lately, both of which would be a big step forward in my career. One job is in Orlando where I have a connection to people inside the company, and I know they have recommended me and I've even exchanged brief emails with the person in charge of hiring. He is going over resumes this week, so I could hear something from him any day now. The other job is in Pittsburgh. I actually interviewed for a similar job with this same company back in August, so in addition to applying for the job I sent an email to this guy in the hopes that he would remember me.

So my week will be spent with my phone in hand waiting for either an email or a phone call. I can already tell this is going to be a long week.

Saw it last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. This despite having a terrible audience to watch it with. They sat through the 20 minutes of previews just fine, but as soon as the movie started there were people constantly leaving their seats, coughing throughout the movie, and the couples in front of us and behind us talking in Spanish. Even a cell phone went off at one point.

Still, great movie.

My amazon copy came in yesterday (sorry teggy) but I couldn't get in any multiplayer due to lack of Internet. I was glad to see that there is the ability to do the multiplayer side with bots, so I messed around in that for a bit before loading up zombie mode. I strongly dislike the zombie modes in the previous games, but the changes sounded encouraging. I played one game of zombies, and it felt worse than the previous versions. No thank you.

That left single player, which is fairly "meh". That makes it one of the better single player campaigns. The RTS sections are by far the weakest point. They are fun, but are very out of place when thrown in to an already confusing storyline.

I hope to get some multiplayer in tonight, assuming everything is still up and running.
