The last movies had spidey sticking to walls because he had shit growing out of his skin, and yet his rubbery suit didn't prevent him from clinging to the side of buildings. And in the comics, there's never been anything (that I can remember) preventing him from sticking to stuff. I even remember a panel where he was sticking to the ceiling from his head!

I have low expectations for this movie, but not because of this.

I've got a busy weekend, but will be able to sneak in an hour or two of gaming early Saturday. I've been playing the first Uncharted. I'm not as hooked as I thought I was going to be, but I'm still enjoying it.
128  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: So I got a PS3 for Christmas... now what? on: January 04, 2012, 12:24:20 AM
Thanks for the suggestions. I assumed the God of War Origins stuff was the first two games from the PS2, but if they are the portable games I'll probably rent them. And I completely forgot about MLB: The Show. I loved this game when I played it on the PS2, and every summer I regret not being able to play it. Now that can change.  icon_biggrin
129  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / So I got a PS3 for Christmas... now what? on: January 03, 2012, 01:32:13 PM
I'm exchanging gifts with the family on Christmas, and notice that my pile is significantly smaller than the rest. This didn't bother me, as I'm a highly evolved American Adult Male who doesn't need a lot of christmas gifts, but dammit I've been good all year! Clearly the only logical conclusion was that I was going to receive one really good gift, that would put all other gifts to shame. I might have taken a quick peak outside to see if there was a Lexus with a bow on it, but sadly there were too many cars in our driveway to be sure. Finally as the pile of presents were winding down, one was shoved my way. And lo and behold, it was a PS3!

A PS3 bundle to be more precise, with Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One and Little Big Planet 2. What are the big PS3 exclusive games I should play? I know the Uncharted series is popular, and picked up 1 and 2 already. Heavy Rain is another game I've been wanting to play. And I played the first few God of Wars, so I'll probably play God of War 3 at some point as well. What else is out there?

I spent a few hours with a trooper, but didn't particularly care for it, so I started a Jedi consular. I got him up to level 10 today, but I won't be able to play again until middle of next week after the holiday.
131  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic announced on: December 20, 2011, 03:22:56 PM
I ordered the game, but haven't had a chance to play it yet. I might get an hour or so this afternoon, but that will be it until tomorrow at the earliest.

Stupid question, but what server is the gt guild on? I fell behind in the thread, and came back to a ton of unread pages.
132  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360/PS3] Assassin's Creed Revelations on: December 14, 2011, 01:37:25 PM
I finally finished this yesterday, and I'll give it a resounding "meh". AC1 was boring, AC2 was great, and Brotherhood was fun and moved the story forward a lot at the end. Revelations falls somewhere between AC1 and Brotherhood.

The new gameplay mechanics were largely useless and not fun. I really didn't like the tower defense game, and while I enjoyed sending assassin's on missions in brotherhood, I just didn't care for it here. I think taking over cities and having to micro-manage them wasn't intuitive and largely unneeded. The game became much more enjoyable once I had finished up most of the random side stuff and focused on the final couple of sequences. Of course I also blasted through those last sequences in a few short hours.

The game also does little to advance the main story. It's nice to see Ezio chasing the clues that Altair left behind, but the payoff left me confused.

Spoiler for Hiden:
Is there more than 1 apple? I thought Ezio had the apple from one of the earlier games, and don't the assassin's have that apple in the present? I got the impression that Desmond was going to bring them to Masyaf to get the apple that Altair hid and Ezio left behind.

The biggest knock against Revelations is that I know I could go online and find out the answers to my questions, but I don't really have the drive to do that yet. The first thought that went through my head when I finished was "Bring on Skyrim!!"
133  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [movie] The Muppets on: December 04, 2011, 04:38:44 PM
I saw the muppets last night. I was afraid after the first half of the movie that I had made a horrible mistake. The music numbers were overly cheesy and the story was dragging. But it improved immensely in the 2nd half, and I was in pain from laughing so hard at certain points.
134  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Want to share cool stuff about my dad (military stuff) on: December 04, 2011, 04:06:32 PM
My grandfather was in the marines at the end of ww2 and the Korean war. He earned the silver star when his group was ambushed. He was "severely wounded" but organized his men, held off the ambush, and finished the mission. He was shot again, but refused to be evacuated until the rest of his men were gone. He also won the bronze star on a separate occasion, but I'm not sure how he earned it.

I told him yesterday that he set the bar high, but I would do my best to make him proud.

He passed away this morning surrounded by his wife and six children.

See, for me I saw enough in the "test" to know that Swtor is nothing special in the Whacky World of gaming. The things that will, or will not get changed by release time, wont be the things that make Swtor another yawn fest after 3 or 4 weeks. I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade, but I've got an opinion like everyone else.

I'm usually pretty happy with a game purchase that will get me 3-4 weeks of enjoyment. Outside of COD there are very few games I continue to play once I finish the story missions. So I already know going in that my enjoyment of TOR will be directly tied to how much I like the story. From my short time in the beta it looks like the story is pretty good. I'll keep playing as long as the story keeps me interested.

137  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360/PS3] Assassin's Creed Revelations on: December 01, 2011, 12:49:20 PM
Is there a benefit to assigning assassin's to the cities you take over? Is it better to assign them to a city, or keep them out on missions?

Oh, and f*** the tower defense mini-game. I hate it. I can't think of a single redeeming quality.

Launch build is going live at noon CST on Thursday.

Interesting poll on the Game Tester forum:
Question: Would you play based purely on game mechanics, not Star Wars Lore?
Yes: 926    51.25%
No: 881    48.75%

In truth I don't think I would.

Interesting poll, but I'm not sure what there is to learn about it. My answer to it is no, but I enjoyed the game mechanics. A familiar lore/setting is important. Just look at football games. Madden isn't very good, but it has a huge fan base largely because of the NFL licenses. Better football games have come out without that license, and barely are a blip on the radar.

Gamefly is offering to let me keep this for only $35.99 already...I wonder if it's not doing so well?

I got the same email from them. I didn't have to game the system in order to get revelations, which is odd for a new game. I returned both BF3 and COD back to gamefly the Friday after revelations came out, and it was sent to me almost immediately. So either Gamefly overestimated the demand for this title and ordered way too many copies, or the overall demand is really low.

I really like this series, but this is easily the weakest since the original. Hopefully it's because we've already spent two full games on Ezio and that timeline, and not because of the yearly release cycle of death.

Having never spent a lot of time in any previous mmos, I think it says a lot about this game that all I wanted to do today was jump back in and keep playing. Hopefully work picks up so I can afford to get this at launch.

Between the holidays, Assassin's Creed, and the Star Wars beta, I haven't played any COD in awhile.

Ok, not completely true. My step-brother and I did our annual Black Friday "Drink Beer and Play Games While the Wives/Girlfriends/Others Go Away" Day. We had some people with us this year that barely play console shooters so we couldn't take them into the public matches, and the private matches started becoming boring after awhile. So we switched over to the Survival mode, and I am surprised at how much I liked it. I never cared for the zombie mode, but I can see myself spending several hours in this. If anyone ever wants to give it a shot let me know.

I'll get more time for video games this week, so send me an invite if you see me on.
142  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic announced on: November 29, 2011, 12:33:15 PM
I ultimately got my Jedi Knight up to class 11, and then fired up a bounty hunter and got her up to level 6 before I had to leave the game off. Normally in games like these I stick to good characters. Playing evil has never felt right. I think part of the issue is that I refuse some quests because there is no reason a bad guy would do it. "You want me to save your village, what's it worth to you? You don't have anything to give as a reward? Piss off." Then I start thinking of the lost experience, and I go back and accept the quest anyway. I don't have this issue too often as a good guy. It's rare to get a mission where you are asked to straight up murder someone for no good reason. Usually there is some lame excuse that at least gets you to go talk to the target. Oddly enough, the only games I ever finished as an evil character were KOTOR 1 and 2. So maybe I'll be able to work my way through some of the evil storylines.

Grouping was easy to do, even for someone like me who is hesitant to even bother people on his friends list with a game invite. I grouped up in the Heroic Area's, and they were a lot of fun. The only downside was I couldn't get into a group conversation. I think my random partner started the conversation solo rather than waiting for me to join. I would have liked to experience that aspect of the game, so that was annoying. There was also a Flashpoint that I passed on with my Jedi Knight character because I didn't feel like going through the trouble of getting into a group, and I'm kind of kicking myself for not getting to see that aspect of the game.

I even tried PVP for a match. I saw the comments here that said it made it almost unplayable on their systems, so I assumed I was in for a bad experience, but I didn't notice any slowdown in performance. Maybe it was just a non-issue for me, but I'm assuming that my normal system performance is borderline unplayable for everyone else.  icon_lol

The only thing keeping me from pre-ordering this game is money. I spent a lot of money in October/November, and now work is slow and I'm staying home because there is nothing to do. Between two holiday days last week, and being told to stay home yesterday and today, I'm out 4 days of pay.  crybaby
143  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic announced on: November 28, 2011, 05:59:13 PM
Well, there wasn't anything for me to do at work today and I was told to stay home today. The bad news is I miss a days pay. The good news is I am getting to spend some quality time with SWTOR!

I'm sticking to a Jedi Knight and so far I'm really enjoying it. I don't usually play MMO's, but this is getting it's hooks into me. I want to try the other classes, but since the beta is only good for the rest of today I figure I will spend as much time with this character as possible. I'm up to level 9, and just experienced my first crash to desktop. There are also points in the game where my framerate drops to under 10 and the game becomes a slideshow, but for the most part it is running as smooth as I can expect with my current specs. The Jedi Temple seems to be an area where my framerate consistently dips.

Go into the video options and set the shadow quality slider all the way down.  The game ran poorly on my wifes machine , once we did that it ran super smooth.  Her specs are similar to yours

Thank you! That seems to have fixed it. I hope to get some more time in the game today, but this was a bad weekend for me to be able to get any serious play time in.

What are your specs?  I'm playing on a pretty low-end machine this weekend and the performance is okay.  Not great, but playable.

AMD Athlon II X2 240 Processor, 2800 Mhz, Dual Core
RADEON HD 4550 video card
3 GB Ram

It's not built or optimized to be a gaming machine, but was able to run games like Civ V, Rift, DC Universe before I added the video card today (albeit poorly). These games run much better with the new video card, but SWTOR was still choppy. I'm sure my processor needs to be upgraded, but I don't necessarily have the cash right now to immediately upgrade that, and based on the minimum requirements for SWTOR I thought I could get away with just upgrading my video card.
146  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic announced on: November 26, 2011, 09:04:27 PM
Well I'm still having trouble running the game, and I'm wondering if it is due to lag instead of my computer since I should meet their requirements now to play the game. Unfortunately, it's borderline unplayable. Hit one of the WASD keys to move, and there's a significant delay before my character actually does anything. I don't need it to look pretty, but I want it to at least be somewhat smooth.

Crap. I got in no problem, but it doesn't look my computer could handle the graphics. My computer is old and not optimized for gaming, but it was able to handle rift and dc universe pretty well. Unfortunately this was borderline unplayable. I'll look into upgrading my computer, but unless I can do it for really cheap I'll have to pass.

After spending a lot of time trying to figure out what I would need to update my computer, I think it boiled down to just needing a new video card. So I ran out to Best Buy, picked up a new one, and got it installed. This queue screen is gorgeous.

The previous Assassin's Creed games have been some of my favorite of this generation, but this game hasn't truly pulled me in yet. I'm still very early on in the game, so I'm still in the tutorial section of the story. Still, these tutorial missions aren't very good and if I was a new AssCreed player I would probably stop playing.

My biggest problem though is that so far I feel like this game has suffered from the "adding stuff for no reason because it's a sequel and we feel obligated" syndrome. Outside of the hook blade, none of the new stuff is very interesting (so far).

Even the hook blade isn't that great at the beginning (I assume it gets better).  Frequently, it's just an extra step when jumping to another rooftop.

I think being able to use it while running away from some guards could be pretty good. You're right about the climbing though.

Last night I installed what was downloaded, and it brought me to a log in screen. When I tried to log in nothing would happen, so I figured that was as far as it would let me go since it's not the weekend yet. I closed out that window, but when I tried to open it up again last night it was giving me an error saying it couldn't open. So I uninstalled it and downloaded the installer again. I just now tried to open it again and it let me back in to the log in screen, but it says my account needs to be verified. When I click the link I can see it is trying to take me to a security question screen, but it can't get past the first page of the website. They must be getting hammered.

This is why I stick mostly to console gaming, but I loved the KOTOR games and I'm really excited for this. I'm even willing to upgrade my computer if needed.
