This is Game of the Year.    Seriously, if I take the last few games of the year, minus Minecraft, this would win against all of them.   

Game. Of. The. Year.

My family loves Ponyo, which we usually watch together at least 4 or 5 times a year.  We were glued to the tv last night watching my oldest play about 90 minutes of Ni No Kuni.  It was amazing that a game could pull my entire family in like that.  We all thought it reminded us of Ponyo, from the animation to the voices to the heartwarming characters.  This was obviously a labor of love for the developers. 

It was made by the Studio that made Ponyo.

I also noticed that we didn't have disabled options for professional football or baseball stadiums, or basketball arenas.

I think I saw these under the park construction options.  There was an easy-to-miss row of secondary buttons in that menu to choose a park sub-type and get more construction options.


The small map size turns me off, too, but the multi-region thing seems more fleshed out than it was in SC4.  I'm guessing the idea is for your metro downtown and sprawling suburbs to be one city for the giganto downtown and a connected city as the dedicated suburbs.  I'm at least willing to give it a chance.

I do agree that the Sims-like expansion pack bonanza is an almost certain future for the title, though, and that's more worrisome than the small map size to me.

I guess my problem is that I don't want a city sim game to force me into a bunch of small unnatural looking cities connected in the region.   Every city on earth sprawls well beyond the city centers.    I'd say my usual city CENTER in the old games would take up most of the area they've given us.    I don't know if it's a limitation they placed to get around performance issues on some machines or if they are trying to bottle neck us into playing with friends....  ?

Either way, I'm going to amazon this morning and bowing out.

After playing the beta, I think I'm going to cancel my preorder for now.    The area sizes are really killing it for me, and that limitation is going to smother the chance to build out high density areas surrounded by sprawling suburbs.   I also noticed that we didn't have disabled options for professional football or baseball stadiums, or basketball arenas.    There are lots of other things I noticed were not there in terms of visible but disabled build options.   I would bet my shoe that they held these out so they can charge us extra for them later following the model they use with The Sims.

No thanks.  Too many fantastic games coming out in February and March for me to use precious game capital for this one at this time.

Found something I don't like about the game.   The taming mechanics.

I have spent HOURS today trying to tame a Shrimpaler.   I can't get the damned thing to show hearts.    I saw hearts over one when I didn't have room in my party, and since then it's been HOURS since one has offered to let me tame it.   I've been running back and forth continuously fighting them trying to get one.

 

God how I wish I had a hard cover copy of the Wizard's Guide.   Either that or an iPad copy.   It's a bit small on my screen to be able to enjoy.

Mother of God.   The collector's edition is going on ebay for almost $300.

Multiple auctions of them.   Hell, the Steel book case is going for $40.   I walked into my gamestop the other day to pick up my preorder that I made only a week before.   The girl asked me if I had ordered in time to get the steel case, and I told her I didn't have any idea.   She gave me one anyway.....

Anyone here seen Ponyo?   That movie has the same enchanting quality to it even though it's bizzare in many ways.    This game I think is even more enchanting than that.

This game looks amazing... Has there been any mention of length in the reviews?

IGN says around 40 hours to beat the game, but there's more to do after the credits roll, and it'll take at least 80 hours to get the Platinum trophy.

I'm one of the culprits who used to post regulary and have since faded into lurkdom.  Pharmacy school leaves little time to even see my wife with any regularity, so posting on GT has become a rarity.  I stop in from time to time to catch up on current events, the goings-on in the community, and check out different discussions, but that's all I really have time for anymore.  I do miss feeling like a regular part of the community, as I miss being a regular part of the lives of my friends and family, but since August I've become somewhat of a ghost.  I knew pharmacy school would require major sacrifices, but that doesn't make my scarcity any easier. 

Rest assured I still visit when time allows.

My big issue is that gaming sites are blocked at my company.    I mean I simply don't post as much unless someone else is paying me to do so. 

Actually we just set up an employee wireless network that, so far, doesn't block game sites.    I'm back in business for now.

Btw -- I would classify this game as a system seller.    IMHO of course.

This game is enchanting, and I'm still in the hand-holding phase.

Beautiful.    Soul grabbing story.    I'm hoping that this world and Drippy are real and not just in this kid's head due to what is at stake!

The collector's edition is extremely underwhelming.   I'm disappointed.

Question:    I just got a new monitor and have hooked my PS3 to it via HDMI.   I then downloaded the demo.   The PS3 menus look crisp and clear, but the demo of this game looks a tiny bit soft.   I am just wanting to verify that the graphics style is supposed to look like that.

This is more of a sanity check on my monitor than it is the game....

That settles it.   I'm dropping by Gamestop today and putting money down on it.    I was hoping this one would be good, enough so that I updated my monitor to one that has an HDMI input so I can hook my PS3 to it to play it.

It is now early 2013, which is when they said this game would be released.    I don't think it's quite ready yet, but they do have a character editor available on their website (via their forums) that you can play around with.   There have also been a ton of new screenshots, alien races, etc posted on the site linked above.

This game comes out in 1 week.    I only recently became aware of it.    I'm hoping for some reviews this week?

I am enjoying this system more than I expected.

The ability to play on the tablet while others are watching TV is way underrated.

My pendulum has just swung back to the PC. Steam sales, unique indie games, native Xbox controller support, lower overall prices, a slower rate of PC hardware obsolescence... between my PC and iOS I hardly ever have a desire to boot up my consoles anymore.

Apparently the Republicans in Congress have learned nothing since the beginning of the month.

I imagine Boner's thought process went something like this: "Hey why don't we continue with the GOP status quo and appoint a guy to chair the science committee who actually refuses to believe the scientific community. Americans will love us for it." 

Learned from what?    Nearly 50% of the population shares their views, so why should they automatically drop pants and give in to you supposed 'enlightened' types just because you edged over 50% with an incumbent President?

You *do* realize that the Republicans made up nearly 50% of the voting population of America in November, right?

I bought this.   Xbox 360.

I dipped my toe into single player tonight, but I'll be ready for multiplayer tomorrow night.    It just wouldn't be the holidays without playing Call of Duty with Hark, Kato and the gang.

I'd probably try it if it was legalized in my state.    It would have to be made 'ok' by my workplace too though -- don't want to lose my job.

My problem with pot users has never been the pot.   It's the breaking of the law part that I have a problem with.

Obama seemed sick or something.  He looked down so much it was eerie.

He looked tired and drained.  His mind was elsewhere.  It was strange to watch.  Romney was in full steamroll mode, which made the contrast even more noticeable.

He was probably tired from his Jay-Z, Beyonce, and other Hollywood parties.   I sure as hell know he wasn't tired from the Libya incident, through which he slept like a baby.

Scored mine today.    That is a majorly broken release date.   Original date:  Sept 25th.

This is extremely rare -- but the street date for this game has been broken wide open by Gamestop!

Reports all over the damn place of people getting the game.   Total chaos out there.... copies selling out.    My local Gamestop denied that the date had been broken, but now reports tonight indicate that Gamestop online orders are shipping, and NewEgg has started shipping them as well in response.    Pandemonium.

I have preordered 2 of them.    I did so predicting that there might be shortages at launch and I can resell one of them.    Contributing factors for me to risk this purchase:

1.  Global launch
2.  Only console launching this year
3.  Traditional console shortages at launch
