My wife got me a Skullcandy SLYR headset for Christmas.   I plugged it into the PS4 and the volume was dreadfully low.   I cranked the volume up to max on the little remote controller thing and still no luck.   I went into settings and the volume for the device showed at 50%, so I jacked it up to 100% and then it couldn't let me 'save' the settings.    Meaning every time I backed out of that screen and came back in they were at 50% still, and the headset never got any louder.

So I thought unplugging it (USB) from the PS4 and plugging it back in might help, but every time I did this the volume seemed to get even quieter without me being able to get the volume back up.

Any ideas?    My wife is pretty upset because her two big gifts for me seemed to have turned out to be busts (she got me a Pebble watch too that was dead on arrival).

Hmmm I'm using my Astro a40s with no problems.

Those connect via USB?   The Skullcandy had a USB connector, but also had two AV type connectors that were next to useless and made it unwieldy.

Did I really need this thing? Hell, no.

Good thing there wasn't a PS4 also in stock that day  icon_razz

Don't worry Zeke.   I've seen them popping in and out of stock.   If a parent really wants to get one for their kid, they can.   They just have to be diligent and get up early.

When I've been in BB lately and hear people asking about either console they get the same story - while supplies may come in during the week, they only put them out for sale on Sunday morning. And they all sell... but no clue what that means as to quantity / console. Heck, I couldn't even find accessories for the XBone - was looking for a Play and Charge kit and ending up at Amazon and waiting 10 days before they could get it to me.

They kind of started this when the Wii and PS3 were on the shelves.    The pile up stock through the week and get a kick out of seeing people lined up in the cold on Sunday mornings.

I have seen both XB1 and PS4 pop into stock briefly before disappearing quickly around the B'ham Alabama area.    I'm guessing it's the same most places.

Edit:  And I might add that I had a strange instinctive urge to purchase one when I saw it even though I already own both.    Gamer instincts or something?

Just my theory.

given the name, I'd hope this was an accidental case of oversensitivity.  not sure about the rest of you, but I don't often discuss my game systems by name while I'm in the same room.  I can only think of a few instances where that would come up.

One of my kids' name is Xbox, so it really causes some serious confusion.

That's what they're doing. Have you heard about anyone actually getting hacked this time? They're being safe rather than sorry.

Seriously?

Seriously.

You know that thing you're doing right now? Yes, that thing. Stop. Just stop.

This response is as cute as it is predictable.   I know you take your "Defender of Sony!" role seriously, but you can't honestly say that Sony hasn't had some serious big-time security problems in the recent past.   The news releases cite suspicious activity and thus many many people were prompted to change their passwords (including me).

I can't remember the last time I had this problem with just about any service I use be it Blizzard, Steam Microsoft, etc.   I can, however remember going through credit card statements when Sony was storing our passwords on a dinner napkin just a couple years ago.    Sony needs to get their network security shit together, pure and simple.

Now go happily play Knack instead of coming up with cutesy arrogant responses to legitimate concerns.

Guys, since this game is offered through Steam how would I get it for my son?

In other words, I am playing it on my computer from my steam account.   My son got interested watching me, but I'm not sure how I would get it onto his computer so he could play at the same time.   Do I need a separate Steam account?   I'm ok with buying the game again, but I'm unsure how that works.

Eventually this

But you probably just need to buy it for him.

But how does that work?   Do I open a new steam account and DL steam to his computer?   Or do I log in with my steam account on his computer and use my account?    I'm confused by this.

I have run into an identical building on two different worlds, as well as a village with pretty much identical layout and beings. For a supposedly procedural game, that seems a bit off.

I've been watching videos of this one and it seems pretty similar, minus the planet hopping aspect. Almost bought it before Starbound went early access.

Darkout works (I bought it like 6 months or so ago via Desura) but there's something just 'off' about its core engine. Too much 'lag' between people swinging your way and hitting and such. I should fire it up again and see how it is nowadays.

Totally continuing to love Starbound though. I made a base of sorta on a level 7 Forest planet, beat the first 'boss', and now I can explore even more of the galaxy if I want to. Or wait for some more beta updates.

Decisions, decisions...

Dude... you are exploring level 7 planets and beating bosses?    You are way ahead of me.
69  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Starbound on: December 06, 2013, 02:53:03 PM

AA is using sarcasm to rip that reviewer a new one because he thinks he's an idiot.

Ok... so I jumped to another planet.  This one is arid and has a lot of copper and coal deposits.  It gets cold at night and I have to huddle around a campfire to stay alive.  I stumbled across an underground base belonging to some bizarre looking life forms.  They were aggressive, so I wiped them out and stole all of their goods.   They had some great stuff, including tents and floodlights that I can use for base camps.   I looted a lot of pixels.  If they had possessed beam weapons I wouldn't have been able to take them, but they didn't so I was victorious.

Packing up now to jump to another planet.   I'm staying on level 1 planets for now.   I was able to craft some copper armor - not a complete set.  More later!
70  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Starbound on: December 06, 2013, 01:46:31 AM
Well I did all I could do on the first planet.   Fueled up my ship and made the jump to a level 2 planet.   I'll report back in after going planet side.

Forested planet.   Purple hue to the ground.  No signs of civilization yet.   Aggressive birds and a small pokemon looking creature that is very tough and has sent me to the regen chamber twice.  Going to venture further from beam down area.

Entry 3:

WOW.  Ok this planet IS inhabited.   Encounted aggressive robots with shield technology and laser guns.   Had to beam out to avoid death.    There was an underground facility of some sort that I didn't get a chance to explore.
Unsure if these robots were devices of some carbon based life form, or if the robots themselves were sentient.   These are unlike the (peaceful)humanoid robotic sentient life on my starter planet.  These robots rolled on wheels and immediately threw up shields when they saw me.    More investigation to come unless I deem it too dangerous for my current tech levels.

Entry 4:

The wheeled robots were some sort of sentry for humanoid unfriendly aliens who have technology much more advanced than I do.   I tried to make contact and was blown to pieces.  Time to fuel up and leave this planet.
71  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Starbound on: December 05, 2013, 02:06:30 PM
I'm really enjoying this one.  I'm intrigued about having to craft equipment to survive on some of the more inhospitable planets.  I love being able to beam back to the ship when I get into trouble.  I am excited to gather fuel and set out across the universe to see strange new worlds.

Lots of potential here!
72  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Starbound on: December 05, 2013, 03:43:48 AM

Upon further investigation, the sentient medieval civilization that is near my landing spot is robotic in nature.   They have robotic livestock and grow metal based crops.    Very peaceful though.  I've robbed their chests blind.
73  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Starbound on: December 05, 2013, 01:58:05 AM

So I beamed down to my starting planet and happened to be within walking distance of a sentient species that appears to be in the medieval age.   They were peaceful but warned me not to try anything.   There was both peaceful and aggressive animals about as well.

Very cool so far.
