Well you know initially I wanted to make the PS4 in my living room my primary PS4, but then I realized I spent a lot of time in my bedroom, so I changed that one to primary. Then I found myself doing a lot of cooking, so I changed it to the kitchen PS4. Then I finally came to my senses and made my bathroom PS4 primary.

Couple tidbits I'm getting from the interwebs:

For voice commands, if you are having trouble people are having a lot of luck going into settings and calibrating the voice detection.  There is a selection in there for 'Xbox is having trouble hearing me'.   So there is a voice calibration that you can do.

Also, here is an unboxing for the Day One edition:

Me too, but an IGN correction to their review tells you to be sure and go into settings to make it your primary.  I wonder if it's a situation only IGN came across because they might have more than one PS4 they are looking at?   I dunno....

I did it just in case.

When all else fails, attack the messenger....not the message. If you just want to throw around silly pics and names, then by all means have at it. Care to refute the review? The PS4 is $100 cheaper and plays the multiplatform games better. The XB1 has exclusives though and if you like them, then you should get the XB1. What is wrong in that statement?

I will pose this question one more time.   When all else WHAT fails?   Reviews have been slightly more positive on the Xbone hardware than the PS4.   There is nothing to defend against except the pile on.

He is not the guy I'd stand behind and go "This guys' opinion matters to me!" Because, really, his entire tone, JUST OPENING THE BOX, is "How is this less than PS4". If that's what you're looking for - perhaps an external validation of your own beliefs, go for it. I'm good though. I kinda know what I'm getting myself into, and I'm ok with it. I'll take the lesser console, s'cool.

a bunch of friends from work are all going with the Xbox one, and I think I'm not missing out by skipping on the both consoles yet. I'm looking forward to some upcoming titles and we'll see where things sit by Q1. Until then, it looks like I've got some good gaming ahead of me. Perhaps not the best, but I don't have another 600+tax to shell out.

Yes I don't understand why you're being defensive either. I don't think anyone has spared Sony. Tons of people said that they wouldn't get the PS4 if it didn't have local streaming which as an extremely valid point.
Also, why are you expecting congratulations for good reviews? Did you make the game?

Yeah, there are some people here that are VERY defensive over the XB1. I don't blame them, I'd be defensive as well and was when the shoe was on the other foot when they were kicking the PS3 all around this forum. It's kind of amusing seeing the Xbox crowd on the defensive after all the aggressive trash talking last generation. What goes around, comes around.

It's all good though. I may even get an XB1 tomorrow night. LOL....it's mine if I want it. I still don't know. It depends on Ryse reviews.

I bought both consoles back then, and I bought both this time around.  I'm not being defensive.  I'm calling people out on pure out TROLLING against the Bone these past months.  Twice today already the bandwagon jumped out of their collective pajamas on two stories that turned out to be false or totally misleading.

Edit to add:  I'm hopeful on Ryse.   The Forza reviews are positive over all, and apparently the graphics are stupid pretty.

I'm not sure that it's trolling. Are they lying? Someone posted a link to the Microsoft support page that stated specifically that it did not support surround sound. Is it their fault that MS did a 180 on so much stuff that they weren't able to update all the things they changed?  I'm not sure what the second story is so I can't comment about it.  I would have to say that Sony's shit gets posted about as often as Xboxs shit but is it their fault that MS has so much more to post about? Currently, looking at Google news, both products seem to be getting equally as warm of a reception as the other. There's no conspiracy here.

The other item was the voice controls.  YK posted two videos clearly showing them work, and work well.

Saw a Bone display model on the way home tonight, and it was sexy as hell.    The design is very modern and simple.   It was also smaller than I was led to believe by the internet lynch mob.

Now I know you're smoking something. The Bone is a HUGE square box with very little design in it. Heck it looks like someone took an old desktop computer that was designed to have the monitor sit on top of it and painted it black then threw an Xbox symbol on the side. What exactly is sexy about that?

Edited to add that I couldn't care less what the machines look like, but to say it looks sexy and modern is just crazy.

I've said since the reveals that I loved the Bone design.   I never have been into Sony's style of making their consoles look oblong or oddly shaped.   The Bone is very elegant now that I've seen one in person.
I respect MSD's right to think that the Xbone is sexy. That is a subjective quality after all. Most of us and practically all of the reviews I have read would respectfully disagree however. On the other hand, who spends time looking at their console? I can barely recall what my PS3 looks like.

I don't like the external brick though.   I'll give Sony major points for that.

I also find it odd that (not necessarily on this forum, but on the internets in general) fans of xbox have gone from "yeah I have a PS3-i mean Netflix machine-but it's all about the games man. GAMES GAMES GAMES! If I want to watch a movie I'll turn on my PS3" to "It's all about the media capabilities man. All the PS4 can do is play games. It's basically a PS 3.5."
The reversal of opinion is intriguing.

Ironic considering the PS3 turned out to be the better console last generation primarily because of the way it pushed the boundaries of media with Bluray.

At this point, the Bone could go with 100% success rate and someone out there is going to put down his Knack, hit one with a bat, and then come here to complain how the system couldn't even withstand a hit from a bat.

Have I pushed this the past three posts enough for the usual suspects to feign neutrality and say that despite three pages of pissing on Xbone reviews (which came out higher than PS4 reviews btw) that us Bone buyers are being defensive because of the absolute disaster of the past 24 hours?

seeing the ign raw video makes me a bit bummed.  the voice commands don't appear to work any better than they did in Kinect 1.0.  in fact, it felt pretty much exactly what I remember with Kinect 1.0.  it seems like half of the time, the commands need to be repeated.

From what I'm reading, there's a learning curve in figuring out how the Kinect wants to hear commands. If you just say "XboxForzaMotorsport5" it's not going to work and you're going to think it's non-responsive. You have to do a short pause after the Xbox to notify the unit you're about to issue the command. The IGN guy was running his words together quite often when it didn't respond. (Though I was surprised that even when he was running his words together it was still able to understand him quite often).

If you watch the video there were several times where the dude just wasn't using the right command. (For instance, saying "Xbox what's on MTV" before doing a Select).

Now I don't believe for a second that voice recognition is 100% perfect on the thing, but it is a machine and you can't blame it for not interpreting your intentions.
I'm not sure I agree with you unless by "running his words together" you mean "speaking naturally". As one review already mentioned you feel idiotic enough talking to your electronics, never mind having to do it slowly and clearly.

I would advise that you watch the gizmodo video.   The guy doesn't sound strange talking to his at all, and it works perfectly.

 saywhat

Yeah I did the same thing. This seems to be the standard Xbone defense these days.  saywhat

No.  It's truth.   The PS4 is a more powerful version of their last console.  It pushes no envelopes.  It's customization features are stripped out.  It essentially says 'ok we screwed up on the quirky proprietary stuff last time, so we are taking zero chances and going with standard tech for dev fast pure gaming machine.    Microsoft goes first on their announcement, and Sony immediately leaves all their push features at the alter to rot by cutting their voice/video integration in favor of a $100 undercut of Microsoft's price.

Right now, I can go to my PS3 and customize it more than I can my PS4.   I can also yell at it all day long, but unless I go to the store and buy something extra it's not going to respond to me.

And the Xbone requires no defense.   Look at the reviews:   The Bone is scoring equal or even a notch higher on every review I've read.

What envelope is this thing pushing, exactly?  TV integration?  Oh, well not if you want more than stereo sound.  Kinect?  Well, only if you launch things by having great annunciation and with the proper marketing branding (XBox, launch Redbox Instant by Verizon).  Content management?  Sure, if you want them to decide for you which content stays and which goes.  They had some cool ideas and I was willing to give this a shot and maybe buy one at launch, but from what I have read in reviews (I wish they wouldn't score these stupid things), I am definitely waiting.

Meanwhile, I am playing games on my PS3 2.0 and loving it.  I wish MS had done the same and put the time and money into making the XBO perform better in that regard.  They wasted it trying to do this other stuff and then did it half-assed.

Yeah!  If they had only concentrated on games like DR3, Forza, and Titanfall they could have had a worthy game like Knack!

Xbone lacks proper storage management....you cant even tell how much space you have left on the internal hard drive.

http://www.neowin.net/news/xbox-one-lacks-proper-storage-management-microsoft-says-it-is-automatic

It's automatic!   icon_lol

Oh and remember, there is currently no way to upgrade the hard drive at all. USB drives are not supported yet. So, there is no way to tell how much space you have left on the drive....and you can't upgrade the drive at all. Seems fair.   Roll Eyes

From what I can gather out of that article, the console will probably delete your least used games as you start to run out of space, which means the user will never experience the concept of actually running out. It's a neat idea, but it should be optional for those who prefer to handle these things manually.

If that's true I hope there is a way to turn it off. I still have PS3 launch games on my HDD that I haven't played since 2007, but I still won't erase them, I like having them there. Not to mention it will suck having to re-download a multi Gig title simply because the Xbone erased it.

Why does it matter?  It will keep your saves and thus all you have to do if you decide to play an old game is to reinstall before picking up where you left off....

See, but this was the problem with the Kinect 1 and why the Kinect 2 seems to be no better. This is the real world, not a controlled environment where everyone knows exactly what to say and how to say it. In theory, the Kinect is awesome. In the real world...it sucks. Why MS insists on shoving the thing down everyone's throat, I don't know. It doesn't work.

Give me an Xbox One, without Kinect, for $399. That is what they should have done from the start.

Also, the voice commands for the Bone is no different from any cutting edge smart phone or google voice.  You have to learn how to speak to these devices as well.  Even Dragon is this way.   Once you figure it it, it works very well and you do it without thinking.

seeing the ign raw video makes me a bit bummed.  the voice commands don't appear to work any better than they did in Kinect 1.0.  in fact, it felt pretty much exactly what I remember with Kinect 1.0.  it seems like half of the time, the commands need to be repeated.

From what I'm reading, there's a learning curve in figuring out how the Kinect wants to hear commands. If you just say "XboxForzaMotorsport5" it's not going to work and you're going to think it's non-responsive. No they shouldn't have.   The ps camera will be a failure for this very reason.

The Kinect will have solid support for the next 8 years.

Adjusting for inflation, the Bone is actually lower cost than many previous consoles.
