Twice I've had a game just turn off and put me back at the dashboard.  It isn't just minimizing it, it's shutting the game down completely.  NBA 2k14 and Forza both did it.

You are playing them wrong

Got his what? PS4? Xbox? DVD player?

Sorry thought i was in the xbox one thread.

Does it just happen with DVD's or blueray discs too and games?

I own both the PS4 and the Xbox One now. My impression of the Xbox One is that it feels like a next generation system whereas the PS4 feels like a PS3 with better graphics.

The hardware that MS presents to us feels better built, and they included a proper headset. When I saw those cheap little ear buds that Sony included with the PS4 I tossed them.  The Azure (Microsoft's cloud) network is effing fast, much faster than PSN. It was rock solid on launch day with no connectivity issues and everything I watched streamed beautifully. (The Wolverine is really good.) Also, after seeing the Xbox One in person, it looks better than the PS4.  The Xbox One's UI is way better than what Sony is doing with their PS4 in my opinion, and the Kinect is a hoot!

The ONLY thing that Sony has going for it is a marginal advantage in gaming performance, and in time I think the devs will close that gap even further. Even now, it's hard to see the difference between the games. With a TV that is properly configured, it's near impossible without doing side-by-side comparisons.

Also, I noticed that the Xbox One supports 36-bit color depth, does the PS4 or is it locked at 24-bit?

And a tip for those of you who are watching blu-ray's on the xbox one, go to the settings menu and make sure to turn on the 24fps setting for blu-ray playback.

If your TV supports 36-bit color depth (if it is an HDTV made in the past 6 years it should) then turn that on and also PC (RGB Full) for wide gamut colors.

My sentiments are pretty much captured in this post.

1 million sold for the XB1 too! That's across all the areas it launched in, I forget where.

This is crazy if you also consider the PS4 sold another million in the US on the 15th. Then it still has Europe on the 29th.

Then the XB1 has other territories to launch in on top of that.

All together that means this new console generation is off to a huge start. We're talking about two launches for systems at full launch prices selling more than individually than any other console launch, but put together that's a lot of consoles out there.

I think with the 7-8 year gap since the release of the last gen, people were just looking forward to this new gen a great deal. Even I was tired of seeing the same developer tricks over and over to mask the aging hardware.

Doesn't matter what system you own, this is a very big freaking deal for all gamers. Even PC gamers will benefit because developers and publishers will more quickly move to the new system spec and techniques.

Death to crappy tablet gaming!

It works for me.

I didn't enable any settings either.
128  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Xbox One Discussion on: November 23, 2013, 02:15:58 AM

Let's discuss things to configure or do with your Bone:

1.  Change your gamerpic.    Your old one sucks now and is itty bitty.    Go into Settings and change it.
2.  Download Netflix
3.  Download NFL
4.  Download YouTube
5.  Download the Blueray app so you can watch bluerays

The core voice commands seem to work *very* well.   By core I mean 'Xbox on', 'Xbox home', 'Xbox Go to TV', 'Xbox Play Dead Rising 3'.

When you get off the beaten path and start trying to guess commands beyond that is where you get into trouble.    I love the ability to voice on and off and go home and to the TV though.    Those are the ones they HAD to make work and they did.
131  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Xbone LAUNCH DAY!!!! Which system are you getting? on: November 22, 2013, 10:33:03 PM

I think I've figured out that when you install a game, it factors into the % left to install any patches that are needed for it.   So you see 1%, but what you are really not seeing is the patch download that is taking place.

Does that make sense?   Dead Rising stayed at 1% for a while, but then once it got past 5% it not only said it could start playing but also it sped up big time.
132  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Xbone LAUNCH DAY!!!! Which system are you getting? on: November 22, 2013, 08:16:28 PM

Internet is back to 500 kb/s.    Ugh I hate the internet out here in the boonies.

Anyway, everything works and so far works well.   I was able to issue voice commands without any problems.   I couldn't find 'Settings' by using the controller, so I finally gave up and said 'Xbox, Go to settings' and boom.... instantly to settings.

Hetz... have you figure out how to turn the TV back off after starting it?    I went home but the TV was still playing in the little window (with the TV sound coming through).

You know what's awesome?    I can't remember my gd live password, so I'm done the recovery and have been waiting for my reset code for 10 minutes.    I bet they are overloaded.   The damned thing is useless until I get that code.  Oh, and my local internet speeds just bottomed out to 12kb per sec again.

I'm going to call the phone company and make someone's day here in a minute.
135  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Xbone LAUNCH DAY!!!! Which system are you getting? on: November 22, 2013, 07:02:14 PM

NOTE:   After the patch downloads and the system reboots, it comes up to the green Xbone screen.    LEAVE IT ALONE.   It takes a while to configure all the files on the initial boot.   It may appear stuck or frozen but it is NOT.

Mine just arrived, has been unboxed, and is now patching.

Fit and finish:

1.  The Day One boxing was great.   black, sexy, with a lot of girth
2.  The console itself is smaller than I had built it up to be in my mind.   I love the modern, simple, elegant looks.
3.  I love love love the controller.   It is the old familiar and mostly perfect 360 style controller.    No surprises.
4.  It's patching fast.   In the time it took me to type this, the update went from 0 to 20%

In November of 2005 I was 31 years old working in Savannah Georgia (for the same company, just different location).  My mom was alive and we had no idea she was going to be diagnosed with cancer and later lose her battle with it (I miss you mom).  My daughter was 2.5 years old, and my son was less than a year.  I was heavily into World of Warcraft and raiding.   The University of Alabama was still mucking around the probation + Shula years, and it would be two more years before the start of an era of renewed football dynasty.

That year, at the request of his wife, I camped out with a coworker in 33 degree weather overnight at a Best Buy to get a 360.   We made it from 10pm to 8am and were 2 people short in line to get the system.   It was devastating.   I later purchased one of Walmart.com's completely unethical and insane (and useless) bundles to get it in time for Christmas.   When it arrived I promptly piled all of the extra garbage it came with into my car and returned it all to Walmart for a refund (everything besides the system).

If Anonymous is going to go political and fancy themselves as champions of the commoner the way they have the past 2 years, they need to figure out how to navigate public relations.

How do you win over supporters to your cause?   NOT by taking down a service that a bunch of commoners want to use on the night they want to use it.

Mine still doesn't have an initial scan which is annoying since I can't change my delivery to a will call pick up until it's in the system. If I can get that changed, I'll be able to pick it up at 9:30am vs waiting around all day for it.

The waiting is the best part!  biggrin

Strange.   My Bone was initially shipping from Chattanooga.  I mean my tracking number was entered in and I looked it up on UPS and it said it was received and sitting in Chattanooga.

I just looked it up again, and it magically teleported to Atlanta.   No movement.   No travel.   It just moved to 'received' with location Atlanta instead.   Still scheduled for tomorrow delivery, but that was really strange.  Never seen a starting point change AFTER UPS scanned in the product.

Not exactly a rousing recommendation.

But if you held a gun to my head and said I had to pick a system today, I'd probably point toward the Xbox One—primarily for its game lineup and partly for its interface and the still-in-their-infancy media features. (Also, I'm not currently budget-conscious enough to mind the price difference too much.) Once you calmed down and lowered the gun, though, I'd tell you to wait and see.

yeah, the biggest similarity between all of these reviews is that neither is as good as people hoped they would be or expect they will be in 2-3 years time.  is it amazing or sad that after 7-8 years we still expect more out of the next gen than what they're giving us?  makes me wonder what the next gen after will have and whether we will be happy to have it or only compare to some unrealistic goal?  it's the early-adopter tax and we happily pay it as the flaws generally work themselves out over time, but not so much that we regret our purchase.

good gaming everyone.

Both consoles will make it worth the cost over time I think.   I never regretted my original purchases of 360 and PS3.    Well...maybe a little when my original 360 red-ringed.    Hope there isn't a fatal flaw like that this time around with either of them.

I wasn't referring to anyone on this forum as knackers.   There are plenty of knackers across the internet that have been bombing Xbone comment sections, etc that I'm directly referring to as having predicted doom for the console.

be careful, knackers can get their knickers in a twist and cross their arms across their knockers while looking knackered at all the knocking about their egos are taking and then go out to get snockered only to be snookered when the barkeep is revealed to have snickered at their plight.
