probably not going to even have a chance to download the beta this time around- is the beginning area Skyrim again?  that was my big knock against it as it had a been there, done that feel to the initial setting, but other than that I had fun.

I zoned into the Kajhiti (SP?) lands after tutorial.  I think the graphics look fine maxed out.  Fits the color palette of every other Elder Scroll game.  Going to be hard to judge the worthiness of a monthly fee on the beta weekend imo. So much of it hinges on the realm vs. realm aspect.  At least for me.

Technically you said that from a consumer point of view $100 shouldn't be a deal breaker if you are buying a new console to counter argue that the price difference between the systems is negligible.  Tilt said that $1,500 is negligible price break to a developer's operating expense in regards to MS trying to win back the indie's.  Both of those are totally dependent on the person making the purchasing decision and not definable across the board.  In other words they both suck at trying to prove any point.  Was that neutral enough for everyone?  Tongue

I hate :

General sluggishness on my 4s since the install.  Things lock and freeze for no reason.

Erasing voice mails is an exercise in pain.  See above as it always happens when trying to hit delete.  I am 90% capacity on VM's because I don't have 40 minutes to erase them all.  I'm scared to try and erase a text message.
I turned off Siri because every time I clicked on a voice mail to start it and then moved the phone to my ear to listen to it she would butt in and ask what I needed.  How about f'ing off?  She also does this when trying to click over to another call when already on one.  I usually lose both calls when this happens.
There are a bunch of little hiccup issues here and there that I never had prior to updating it.  I have gone from loving my phone to being ready to throw it at a wall.

There's one thing these companies can't cover up, and that's unusually high rates of deaths. Foxconn had a disturbingly large amount of suicides happening at its factories a while ago, to the point where they installed nets along the sides of their buildings to stop jumpers. This is what got the media's attention. Workers were being treated so poorly that they felt death was a better alternative than to keep working there. Foxconn is also the largest at what they do, giving them a lot more power without taking any of the responsibility that entails. There's been plenty of scandals in the media about Foxconn, but comparatively little about its competitors. This is not a coincidence.

You seem to have an omnipresent view of Chinese manufacturing.

Do you? I would venture to say that your claims are far more absurd than mine.

Yes I do.  I used to work for a company that was in the trade show industry providing personalized giveaways to attendees.  Guess where we got most of these giveaway items?  I would venture I have much more hands on experience with Chinese manufacturing.  Even though I did not go on any of the buying trips I heard plenty of horror stories of first hand accounts from my boss.  However, since you want to claim I am absurd without bothering to even check google and your counter point was basically nananny boo boo, I will help you out....

Its high profile, for one, including the tech giant's status as the largest U.S. company by market capitalization. Activists also target the company because of its tie to consumers. Over the last decade, sportswear maker Nike (NKE) and other apparel companies in the public eye also have drawn fire for their use of sweatshops in Asia; indeed, pressure on the industry has forced it to become far more sensitive to labor issues."

This is all just from the first page of hits.  This is not a Foxconn issue and that should be blatantly obvious.  How on earth can they continue to treat employees this way over and over unless the parties overseeing them just don't give a shit.  Absurd indeed.

You seem to have an omnipresent view of Chinese manufacturing.  If you were writing a story to garner hits/views/subscriptions/whatever are you going to write it about Uncle Bob's Toy Factory that has 20 woefully underpaid teenage workers building widgets that nobody wants or are you going to write it about one of the biggest manufacturers out there who are building some of the most popular electronic devices in the world?  If Foxconn got slapped down (they won't) than another company will just swoop in and continue down the same path.  They are ALL like this over there.  It's the Government that allows this.  Don't hate the player, hate the game.

This^... Doesn't make sense to me... The only thing I can think of is that they feel they need that much for the actual programming part and that's all they are worried about now... which also doesn't make sense...

Well we had an issue with this one smile.  It was crashing during gaming so  I took it back up there to get looked at.  Turns out the Video card was failing so they replaced the cheap Zoltac one with a much higher quality PNI one.  They also agreed with me that while  the power supply was ok/borderline with the bad video card it would not be up to snuff with the new one.  I talked them into putting in a Corsair 600 watt one that was on sale in lieu of another higher watt cheapo brand (Allied) one.  So my two biggest concerns with the PC were exchanged for free.  They should have known better with the original power supply but I have to say I was extremely pleased with the outcome and quickness.  Had it back on Saturday after I took it in late Thursday night.  This was last week and it has been rock solid since then with zero issues.  Just need to add an extra case fan or two if I plan on OC'ing anything.

It comes with a full 1 year 48 hour repair warranty.  I also have 15 days to take it back for 100% refund.  They are only about 15 mins from my house.  I priced the parts out and I could not build one comparable at that price.  Plus I'm retired from building rigs.  I also looked at Cyberpower, which my last two pc's were.  It was closer to $900 plus shipping for a comparable one.

Hell....if it has been sitting around that long, talk them down.  Or tell them that they hit your gas line.   icon_razz

Microcenter is famous for putting stuff buried on shelves and/or in the wrong section and continuously discounting them until somebody stumbles upon them and gets them at a steal.  I got an unopened $200 noise reduction headphones for $35 6 months ago smile  They were actually marked at $60 but rang up at $35.  It would appear they could not even find them to mark them down the last time.  I found them in the keyboard isle.

About the gas line...

It was the main feed for my side of the street...the whole street....and the street behind my house.  Gas Co said it knocked around 350 customers out of service.  There was no shut off valve.  It sounded like a jet engine and was waving tree branches 60' in the air above it.  I would have laughed except a fireman in a full suit with mask banged on my door handed me a mask and said "put this on and follow me quickly"  eek  They had to evacuate 20 houses.  Of course a torrential downpour started 15 mins after I was evacced.  I called my dad to come get me and we went to a bar for the 5 hours it took them to get it back on.... he felt sorry for me and paid the bill  icon_lol  They had to fix it 'hot' as they say which involved 2 guys in a fire suit and 2 fir trucks with 4 hoses deployed and ready.  I though I let the plumbers off easy! I'm pretty sure the Gas company did not.  Bonus : I got a new lawn and some evil holly bushes removed for free!

Edit to add:  Pulled the trigger!

So my computer is finally about dead (6 years old) and I desperately need a new one.  Due to an absurd amount of home/appliance repairs/replacements in the last 4 months money is way tight.  Quick breakdown so you can send sympathies...

July 1st all 3 major kitchen appliance went tits up within one week of each other
Oven : last one would not fire up
Dishwasher : dead
Fridge : had leak inside and freezer was on fritz; this one was probably worth fixing but Wife wanted stainless steel on the other two so might as well replace it.

total tally : $2,200

July 14th : main sewer line to street had to be replaced, backed up downstairs bathroom and flooded it before I was able to knock off top of blowout valve outside and create a 15 foot shit geyser...showered outside.
Total tally : $3,000...except they hit main gas line during install and I made them discount to $2,500...yay me?

July 30th :  Pine tree removal (roots got in main line) : $1,200

September 20th : thought we were In the clear
Gutters got cleaned, my guy says I need a new roof...I don't disagree.

September 21st :  Dryer no longer works...detecting a pattern here, repair quote from Mad Russian repair man....$340.  New dryer at Sears outlet...$375.

September 22nd computer says "mercy, put me down"

Did I mention we want to get out of this house and buy a bigger one and almost did 6 months ago.

Anyhow on to something at least fun to buy...new pc!

Ok Microcenter up the street has their in house brand of Pc's...Powerspec.  They have an open box/returned one that seems like a steal as it's been sitting around since July.
1 year 48 hour repair warranty

$659.66:

Intel Core i5-3570K
Microsoft Windows 8 (64-bit)
8GB DDR3-1333 RAM
120GB SDD
2TB 7,200RPM Hard Drive
NVIDIA GTX 660Ti
24x DVDRW Drive
10/100/1000 Network
802.11b/g/n Wireless

IT has an AsRock MB which I'm not familiar with and an undetermined PS.  Anyone familiar with ASRock?  PS I could swap out if need be for cheap.  I think it is a sweat deal but have not been paying attention to hardware in last couple years. I am sure some of it off brand but they sell these new for 900ish.  Coming from an ancient core 2 duo I think considering the above circumstance I will not do better in my $600-$700 price range.  Any thoughts would be appreciated I have it on hold for next 48 hours.
