Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Gene Wilder-'Willy Wonka' remake was an Insult
|
on: June 14, 2013, 11:10:08 PM
|
Yes,Gene Wilder is still alive!! and maybe a little late to the party but the actor who earlier this week turned 80 years old has branded Charlie and the Chocolate Factory an insult to the earlier 1970's film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory The Huffington PostGene Wilder made a rare public appearance in New York on Thursday night, and didn't pull any punches when it came to Tim Burton's 2005 remake of "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" with Johnny Depp in the role Wilder made famous. "I think it's an insult," Wilder, 80, said of Burton's film, which was called "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory." "It's probably Warner Bros.' insult." Warner Bros. released "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and the film made $474 million around the world. "It's all about money," Wilder said about the remake in a 2005 interview with The Guardian. "It's just some people sitting around thinking: 'How can we make some more money?' Why else would you remake 'Willy Wonka'? I don't see the point of going back and doing it all over again." As Wilder said on Thursday during the event at New York's 92Y, he also had a problem with Burton's choices as director. "Johnny Depp, I think, is a good actor, but I don't care for that director," Wilder said. "He's a talented man, but I don't care for him doing stuff like he did." Agree?,Disagree?

|

|
EA will resume Wii U Support When It's A Viable PlatformElectronic Arts will resume full support for Wii U when it "becomes a viable platform" on which to sell games, says EA Labels president Frank Gibeau. Gibeau told Joystiq this week that Nintendo must "sell more boxes" for EA to resume full support for the platform.
"Look, the only thing they can do to fix it is to sell more boxes. We're a rational company, we go where the audience is. We publish games where we think we can make a great game and hit a big audience, and make money. That's why we're here, that's why we have an industry," said Gibeau.
"The Wii U, we shipped four games. We shipped Madden, FIFA, Need for Speed and Mass Effect. In fact, the last Need for Speed shipped 60 days ago had a pretty good Metacritic. It was a good game. It wasn't a schlocky port, we actually put extra effort into getting everything to work. And it's just not selling because there's no boxes," he added. Funnily enough earlier this week Ubisoft also said that Nintendo needs to sell more Wii U's and they will let the console have more exclusives edited to include GT front page news GT Front Page“We need more sold. They are coming with five of their biggest brands ever. And the Yen went down. So maybe they will take steps that will increase the number of consoles sold.” Those are some optimistic words that follow, but ‘we need more sold’ is a direct statement of the company’s position right now: if Nintendo wants exclusives, they need a larger userbase than they currently have right now.

MO - I got a code, but if isn't tied to my email account, I'd be happy to send it to you, since you seem a lot more interested in it than I am. Do you think that would work?
That would be great Raz,is it for PS3?,as i can't use it if its for PC My guess would be that it should be a 12 digit code(3x4)which is the norm usually for PS3 codes with both of us being in Europe I suppose that should be fine as well unfortunately, its for pc and a 20 digit code - Sorry MO!! :-( Absolutely no problem Raz,thanks anyway

Yeah, I got fooled as well. I don't know where we got the idea that Xbox Live Gold members would get two free games per month... I never saw that image, wasn't paying attention, but I thought the wording they used when announcing those games sounded a bit iffy about whether it was just a one time thing or something they'd do from now on. I think their wording was something like two games free every month for XBLG until the release of Xbox 1

yeah i forgot he was the director that blew up in Tropic Thunder He was also in another British film called The Parole Officer that i thought was just great,it is probably known best now for starring two of Game Of Thrones well knowns That one is on Netflix and has been in my queue forever. I should get around to watching it. I was bummed after getting into this thread that the second season (series) of IAP was never released in the US, but then I remembered that it was released in a Coogan collection. I further remembered that I had purchased that collection last year! Last night I rewatched three episodes from the first season of IAP. Hooray! Jurassic Park!!

I Just got back,i will echo Punisher's comment and say the film was great, but IMO doesn't come close to Superman:The Movie..but admittedly, its not trying to be,its a very different film Shannon as Zod,again was great but seemed to lose a lot of the calm and menacing that Terence Stamp stamped on the character(yeah, you saw what i did) But,overall i did enjoy the movie...although

This is quite interesting, remember CD Projekt Red are not fans of DRM...seems they are none too happy about the Xbox One http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-06-11-staunchly-anti-drm-witcher-3-dev-cd-projekt-responds-to-xbox-one-policy-concernsTo Eurogamer, CD Projekt Red said it doesn't know yet how it will handle a publisher who doesn't allow The Witcher 3 to be re-sold—probably because the game does not yet have a publisher.
But CD Projekt Red runs Good Old Games, which makes a big selling point out of having no DRM, and there are few studios publishing titles of this size that have such a visible anti-DRM stance. Eurogamer says they're bristling at the guilt-by-association from appearing at Microsoft's event.
"We couldn't simply not release The Witcher 3 on Xbox One," CEO Marcin Iwiński told Eurogamer. "We want to make sure that every single player will have access to our game and thus decided to deliver for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. There are people who don't mind the DRM protection and will pick Xbox One as their platform of choice. We can't punish them."
Earlier, he said that "if you want the 100 per cent DRM-free experience you will have it on the PC, the platform where we set the rules for our games. The Witcher 3 will be available 100 per cent DRM-free on our digital distribution platform GOG.com, and that's one thing I can confirm." and then although not mentioned here, you have the fact that the Xbox One won't launch in Poland this year, where CD Projekt Red are based

Okay, this is all kinds of hilarious, just the picture is classic..it all turns out well in the end though KotakuBoy Thinks He's Meeting Iron Man, Meets Actor Instead, Gets Very Sad Jaxson Denno, who is 18 months old, is a huge Iron Man fan. So when his parents found out Iron Man himself Robert Downey Jr. was nearby shooting a movie, they arranged the meeting of a lifetime. Like only an 18 month year-old could, though, Denno burst into tears when introduced to Tony Stark, because...he wasn't in the suit. No suit = no Iron Man for a tiny human. Cue the tears, and the amazing photo up top. The story ends on a brighter note, though; seems once Downey Jr. started talking, Denno recognised the voice, and all was well.

so, in order to prepare for Man of Steel I decided to finally see the Donner Cut of Superman 2. wow, it was like a whole new movie. it was great up until the end, when it definitely stumbled IMO: I loved the way they had Lois finally get the truth about Clark and Superman. According to one of the extras the scene was actually the screen test for Kidder and Reeves, and they cleaned it up to use for the new cut. I am up to the 4th disc last night in my Superman collection which is still the makings off the first film, which of course means the first two films really as they were shot at the same time(I just need to watch Superman and the Mole Men and the Superman Cartoons and then i can move onto Superman II) I have seen the Donner cut before, and i have listened to the commentary as well The whole world spinning around WAS actually meant to be at the end of the second film where you saw it,but because they were running behind(a year and ran out of money),they used the end of the second film on the first film and left the second film half/3 quarter finished(until Richard Lester would take over),with the plan to come up with something to replace it at a later date It is a really cool interesting cut though, all the Marlon Brandon Scenes(which were totally cut in Dick Lesters version for Susannah York(Supemans Mom)for some reason) was puzzling why they were cut...and the newly instated Brandon scenes gave Bryan Singer his theme for Superman Returns, the Father becomes the Son etc etc...Superman Returns was a direct sequel to Superman II:The Donner Cut Richard Lester rang up Richard Donner and asked him if he wanted to share directors credit as he felt guilty because it was basically Donners film,So Donner started to watch the film Lester had cut,got to the scene in Paris with the bomb, rang him up and said "NO" I can't remember the new scene about how Lois got it out of Clark, but i saw all the screen tests last night, was it with the blank in the gun? The original way with Clark tripping up over the tiger rug and putting his hand into the fire didn't really make any sense, why would Superman do that as Clark?,he is not really clumsy, its the character he is pretending to be Also in the Metropolis Street Fight.the laser beams being reflected by the Truck's wing mirror always bugged me as well, doesn't that work with the Light type of Laser not the burn the shit out of everything type laser? As tonight i will probably move onto Superman II,i will watch the Dick Lester version first and then the Donner cut..quite looking forward to it actually after of course seeing Man of Steel today at the Cinema

the enhanced detective mode rewind and FF is very cool I didn't like his explanation on why Batman had that in Origins (which is a prequel) but not in the other two games. Kinda breaks the immersion. what was his explanation?,i can't find it..is it in this video?

The fictional Alan Partridge started as a TV broadcaster on The Day Today, and then he got his own programme, Knowing me,Knowing You interviewing people and generally being offensive without knowing it and then I'm Alan Partridge where it shows how he is now just a Radio presenter, which is his best stuff(Alan Partridge and Steve Coogan that is)..he has appeared in other spin off one offs etc now he is back in a feature film Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa here is the trailer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctidPo0v42M

But will it be released separately?

In an interview with Famitsu.com, director Tetsuya Nomura noted that the announcement for the first official numbered sequel in nearly 8 years since Kingdom Hearts 2 may have been somewhat premature. "There have been a lot of spin-off games since Kingdom Hearts 2 and a lot of fans were probably getting anxious, so we made the announcement together with Final Fantasy XV." Nomura stated, adding, "Considering where we are in development, it may have been a little early." Due to technical difficulties, a realtime rendering of the battle sequence at the end of the teaser could not be shown at E3 and had to be pre-rendered, but Nomura assures that, "When you actually see the game running in realtime, it'll look almost exactly the same."
In regards to the plot, in a separate interview with Dengeki Online, Nomura confirmed that Kingom Hearts 3 would be a continuation of Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance and the final chapter of the Dark Seeker Saga.
Kingdom Hearts 3 is still early in the development stage, so while we probably won't be seeing it out this year, hopefully we won't have that much longer to wait. Nomura also promised to have more detailed information to offer at this year's TGS, so we do have that to look forward to.

Okay i just read that(as we knew) Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain are both Metal Gear Solid 5......HOWEVER its not 'two games' that make up MGS5 as such, its MGS5 that has two parts(GZ and TPP) so Konami showing The Phantom Pain at E3.they are showing a game that includes Ground Zeroes so we won't be seeing two releases, its just one release-MGS5 Confusing,no? word on the new achievement systemXbox One Achievements will be split into two types - achievements and challenges - and offer new kinds of rewards, including extra game content such as maps, characters and stat boosts. so the best players will get the most content t isn't clear whether you can actually earn Achievements for watching films and playing music, but it sounds to me like other Xbox One applications are only involved with Achievement rewards.
Only game achievements (lower-case - a specific type of Achievement) will award you Gamerscore, though. This is still "a critical part of the Xbox gaming experience", McDonald wrote, reiterating that Gamerscore will carry across from Xbox 360 to Xbox One. Challenges differ in that they're time-limited but can also be shared across different games and earned by multiple people - communities.
"Imagine, for example, a game releases a headshot weekend challenge that requires players to cumulatively headshot 1 million baddies in a three-day period. And every person who participates and meets the challenge's goals gets the unlock on his or her Achievement history and reaps its reward," McDonald explained.
There's no Gamerscore awarded for challenges because challenges expire, which wouldn't be fair on Sally and Jim who were on holiday when the challenge was added, for instance. Xbox One Achievements are cloud-powered so they're less rigorously a nailed to a game upon release, which is why challenges can be cross-game and involve multiple people. It also means developers can add new achievements to existing games and not have to bung them in paid DLC. You'll save money and developers will be able to react to how the community is playing a game.
Finally, the Xbox One dashboard apparently "greatly improves" how you discover and view Achievements, and will present you with progression data outside of - and before - you launch a game. You'll be able to see how your Xbox One Friends are getting on as well.

I am thinking about buying a BIG Hard Drive before the PS4 comes out and then when i get the machine i can swap the HDD straight away
500 gig i don't think will last, especially if we have to install Blu Ray games, the games will only get bigger as time goes on won't they?

EA’s official statement:
“In 2004, the original Star Wars Battlefront came onto the scene and took gamers – and Star Wars fans – by surprise. It was an ambitious action shooter that gave players the opportunity to step into the shoes of their favorite Star Wars characters, pilot quintessential Star Wars vehicles, and relive classic Star Wars battles.
Fast forward nearly 10 years and gamers still have many of those same Star Wars gaming fantasies – but now they wish to experience those larger-than-life battles in magnificent high definition, with all of the amazing special effects, vehicle physics and gameplay intensity that the next-generation has to offer. Star Wars Battlefront, developed by DICE on Frostbite 3, will surprise and delight fans yet again with a new experience inside this beloved universe made with our signature DICE craftsmanship and commitment to excellence.”
Entry from the official Star Wars Blog:
“Combining stunning visuals, incisive gameplay, and smart level design, the Star Wars: Battlefront video games took fans into the Star Wars universe in previously unexplored ways. The series beautifully showcased Star Wars locales, featured intense ground-battle action, and allowed gamers to fight for the Empire, the Republic, the Rebellion, and other factions. They were not just great Star Wars games; they were great video games in their own right. And we are thrilled to confirm that the series will continue.
In their pre-E3 press conference today, Electronic Arts Inc. announced the production of a new entry in the Star Wars: Battlefront franchise, currently titled Star Wars: Battlefront. It is being developed by DICE, creators of the critically-acclaimed Battlefield games, and will utilize the Frostbite 3 engine. As one of the world’s premier video game developers, DICE has the talent and expertise to deliver a Star Wars experience like no other, while pushing the boundaries of what is capable in a video game. The Star Wars: Battlefront series, which we know means so much to fans and gamers, is in good hands.
This is the first official game announced under the new multi-year, multi-title licensing agreement between EA, Lucasfilm Ltd., and Disney Interactive, and will kick off a new era for Star Wars video games. Platform and release information will be revealed at a later date. Stay tuned to StarWars.com for more on the next installment in the Star Wars: Battlefront series. In the meantime, enjoy the teaser video below, and prepare for battle…” and then there is this: CVGVeteran Battlefield devs' working on Star Wars: Battlefront So confirmed Patrick Söderlund, exec VP of the EA Games label, in an interview with CVG at E3 today, during which he confirmed that Battlefield executive producer Patrick Bach and DICE general manager Karl-Magnus Troedsson jumped at the chance to develop a Battlefront game. "It was almost not happening," said Söderlund of the deal with Disney that made the new Battlefront game possible.
"It was just something as boring as resources and availability. The DICE guys Karl-Magnus [Troedsson] and Patrick [Bach] were talking and I told them we were in dialogues with Disney over this deal and they just looked at me and said, 'why haven't you spoken to us? What are you doing? We want to make Battlefront'."

I'll be there at some point....but not at $500. Not with their DRM policy. If they ditch the DRM, I'd be open to getting one at launch....but there is no way that is happening at this point. They made their bed and they will have to lay in it.
Ill get one when either it is sub-$300....or they lose the DRM.
I'm in the same boat will get the PS4 first then later will pick up the xbox one when the price drops. That is basically my plan as well..i have no doubt that i will have both systems, but because the Xbox One has not impressed me,its could be up to 6 months to a year late to the console wars in my house

this is interesting, some Japanese gamers are not pleased with the setting of Final Fantasy XV(and i gotta admit,i see their point) KotakuAs the game's trailer states, Final Fantasy XV is a fantasy based on reality. A select group of Japanese gamers don't exactly seem thrilled with that.
What is bothering a handful of players is that the latest game has elements that seem, I dunno, commonplace? That is, if you live in Japan.
For the most part, the ETC booths look accurate—save for the giant armed guards and the blockade stumps. There's even a yellow safety vehicle (circled below), which you often see cruising Japanese highways. Japanese Police Cars game screen But on the squad car, it reads in Japanese, "Royal Municipal Police Force". "Where's the fantasy?" asked one commenter on 2ch. "Guess they're not making fantasy anymore," added another. "Maybe, foreigners who like Japan will get into this," yet another commenter chimed in. Finally, one 2ch commenter quipped, "If they're going to set the game in Japan, then give the characters Japanese faces, too."

CVGSony: PS4 multiplayer fee 'will fund improvements' In an interview with CVG at E3, Yoshida explained the move was necessary to maintain a high quality service and facilitate improvements and expansions. "That's [was] a big decision," he said, "what we internally discussed and decided is that we will continue the free access to online play on PS3 and Vita, so that's clear. But because on PS4 the online connectivity features such as second screen, auto downloads and share features - these are one big pillar of the PS4 experience and we will continue to invest in this area to expand and improve these online features and services.
"If we keep giving away online access for free, the natural pressure is that we have to cut down on the cost to provide this free service. But that's conflicting with our goal of being able to provide very robust and great online services going forward. So we decided that on PS4, because we want to continue to invest and improve our new services, we've asked the most engaged consumers in the online activities to share the burden with us so that we can continue to invest."
During its E3 press conference Sony revealed PlayStation 4 owners must subscribe to PlayStation Plus for $5 a month to play online multiplayer and access a number of additional benefits.
"To make the pain a little bit less we will continue to offer free content with instant game collections, discounts and early access to betas on PS4 as well," Yoshida continued.
"So at the beginning we typically picked from older games for the instant game collection on Vita and PS3, but because everything is new on PS4 we decided to make a smaller version of Drive Club with all the online features open, included in that instant game collection on day one.
"In addition to that we add one digital game every month, so they get high quality indie games as well on top of what they get on PS3 and Vita. So hopefully that makes people's decision easy to join PS Plus."
During the press conference Sony confirmed PlayStation Plus memberships will carry over to PlayStation 4, so current members will have access to all of the benefits across PS3, PS Vita and PS4 for one price.
Sony later confirmed in a Tweet that PS4 users that aren't Plus members "can still enjoy single-player games and access to media services won't require Plus".
PlayStation 4 will launch this Christmas in Europe and North America for 399 USD / Euros or £349 GBP. A free PlayStation Plus version of Drive Club will be available to Plus subscribers at launch. IMO,its not paying for Online access, for me its getting even more for your PS+ sub A free PlayStation Plus version of Drive Club will be available to Plus subscribers at launch I wonder what exactly that means?..same version as retail ?
