Nothing much to say apart from nice views, note the SWAT hanging on the sides of the Police car at the back like the picture above

163  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / EA and the Wii U on: May 17, 2013, 01:30:46 AM
Last week it came out that EA currently had 15 Frostbite 3 developed games in production that would not release for the Wii U,they also supposedly ruled out any future DICE and Visceral EA Star Wars games as they will all use the DICE developed engine

We all have our own digs at EA,but their catalogue is still impressive to any Console especially when games sell by the bucket load to those loyal fans, all those sports games year after year, the shooters, the sequels(and now Star Wars games)....whatever you think of them, they sell and as of late the Frostbite engine seems to be a major player for EA games that aren't just named Battlefield

Anyway,Frostbite or not,now it seems EA has no games at all in production for the Wii U,it seems the early Wii U ports like Mass Effect 3,FIFA,Madden or NFS were just completing the contract EA and Nintendo had that started life for the Wii
Kotaku

Quote
Less than two years after vowing to deliver on an "unprecedented partnership" with Nintendo, gaming giant EA is quiet on the Wii U front.

"We have no games in development for the Wii U currently," company spokesperson Jeff Brown told Kotaku yesterday. He did not rule out the chances of EA developing for the Wii U again. EA publishes many of gaming's biggest franchises, including Madden, The Sims, and Battlefield.

Quote
EA's refusal to put its sports games on Sega's Dreamcast system in 1999 is seen as one of the signs of Sega's decline in as a console maker. The Dreamcast was Sega's last box. On the other hand, EA may not be the kingmaker it once was, and it could be argued that Nintendo's own Wii Sports is the most successful and broadly-appealing sports game of the last generation.

Quote
EA isn't alone in not having new games for Wii U. There are no signs of major forthcoming Wii U games from Take Two, with Grand Theft Auto V only promised for PS3 and Xbox 360. The next Call of Duty is also not announced for Wii U (the last one did come out for it). On the other hand, Warner Brothers has the next Batman game and the console-exclusive Scribblenauts Unmasked for Wii U this year. Ubisoft is bringing major Rayman and Assassin's Creed games to Wii U this year along with its ambitious new open-world game Watch Dogs.

So some publishers seem to be leaving, some still around..What should Nintendo do about this?,Should Nintendo do anything about this?...should Nintendo steer their ship away from these big developers/publishers(or at least the big named games)to have their little corner in the market, their uniqueness?

With the Wii the trend seemed to be you bought a Xbox 360 or a PlayStation 3 and coupled whichever one you chose with a Wii and you would be fine..although most here probably bought all three machines but the Gaming Trend Front Page story on the Wii still outselling the Wii U could mean EA aren't the only ones jumping..or perhaps not taking the leap in the first place

Quote
the original Wii console will outsell the Wii U by nearly 20,000 units this month alone. That’s right, it’s been six years and the Wii is still jogging strong with a solid 75,000 units sold this month in the US

Perhaps the Wii U touchpad is its own downfall here,EA for one can't just port these games over(oh and yeah they say the Frostbite engine isn't too good on the Wii U as well),they have to come up for some selling point with that pad ..the ideas may be there, but to implement them may be a little too much

Or Perhaps we should look at the Playstation 3,that took some time to take off,and Playstation 2 sales were still very impressive for a long time after Playstation 3 found its feet....is the same thing happening here?

PS4 under consideration

Quote
Speaking to IGN at the recent GT6 reveal event at Silverstone race track, Yamauchi said, "We actually do have a PlayStation 4 version in mind, but for this holiday season, we thought it would be best for users to release on PS3 for now."

Seemingly moving to settle any premature excitement, however, Yamauchi added, "I thought the best scenario would be to have the game come out, then to have new scenarios, new DLC and other updates. Once the players have thoroughly played out the system, if the PlayStation 4 version came out naturally, as part of that process, I think that would be the best scenario."

If such a version were to be released, he added, gamers would "probably" be able to transfer over their saved progress.

Polyphony's Gran Turismo 6 is official, and is heading for Sony's PlayStation 3 later this year.

The announcement comes through the slightly bungled issuing of a press release ahead of a Silverstone event later this afternoon, where series creator Kazunori Yamauchi will officially unveil his latest game.

Silverstone itself is one of seven new tracks coming to the game, and while there's no official confirmation yet of what else will be joining the Northampton circuit there are already several pointers out in the wild. A video from the Detroit Motor Show earlier this year revealed a handful of old favourites will be returning, while Polyphony staff have been spotted scanning Australia's legendary Mount Panorama circuit in Bathurst.

All of Gran Turismo 5's vehicles are returning, and the comprehensive garage is being bolstered by new additions that bring the car count up to 1200. There will be more customisation options available, a feature alluded to in the first leaked screenshot of the game, which showed a Mercedes SLS AMG with several aero updates.

There will also be a renewed focus on downloadable content, with Yamauchi saying the game will be supported long after its release. Will it find its way to the PlayStation 4 too? We're hoping to bring you more details from the event itself later today.

EDIT:
Quote
It'll also boast an all-new physics model developed in tandem with automotive manufacturers and an advanced graphics engine that introduces adaptive tesselation.

Gran Turismo 6 will also be introducing new tracks on a monthly basis as Polyphony supports the game beyond its projected release at the end of the year.

EA have opened a new DICE studio in L.A. exclusively for Star Wars Titles

360a.org

Quote
EA has announced the opening of a new DICE studio in Los Angeles, earmarked to be a “key cog” in the publisher’s plans for the Star Wars IP.

That’s according to the Wall Street Journal, which also reports that EA hopes to use the location of the studio to poach talent from rivals Activision Blizzard.

“There is an extreme talent pool over that we want a part of. It’s no secret that our main competitor is there,” said DICE general manager Karl-Magnus Troedsson.

Troedsson also told the WSJ that DICE LA hopes to amass 60 staff by the end of the year. Members of Medal of Honor studio Danger Close have already been snapped up, in addition to “outside talent.”

Although DICE L.A. will reportedly be a “key cog” in EA’s plans for the Star Wars license, it’s still being decided whether the new games will feature existing canon or new Star Wars stories.

But Variety just dropped a bombshell today - Arnold Schwarzenegger is currently in talks to headline the reboot of THE TOXIC AVENGER, with Steve Pink (HOT TUB TIME MACHINE) and Daniel C. Mitchell's script, to be produced by Elysium Films, Akiva Goldsman, Charlie Corwin, Michael Benaroya, and Richard Saperstein.  Arnold won't be playing the famed 98-pound-weakling turned monstrous superhero (although that would be a truly strange and inspired choice) but another lead role in the production.

This looks to be, at the very least, a bigger budgeted film than the original, but that wouldn't be too difficult, considering they weren't made for much.  But if Schwarzenegger isn't Toxie, who is?  And what role will Arnold play?  I'm thinking perhaps the villain, but we won't know that for a while.

Sony insider-no delay for Europe and the PS4

Quote
Sony Computer Entertainment has determined Europe a high-priority territory in the next gen sales race and will ensure the PS4 launch is not delayed into 2014, CVG has learned.

Quote
But an insider involved with PlayStation's business strategy now expects Microsoft will make more aggressive advances into Europe as it fights for market dominance.

The source told CVG that Sony, having learned hard lessons from the 360's first-mover advantage, will renew efforts to maintain its success in the region.

Quote
Despite the neck-and-neck global lifetime sales of the PS3 and Xbox 360 (both edging towards 80m units), the geo-breakdown of those numbers shows that Xbox's main business is in the US (40m) and UK (8m); two areas where it has been consistently dominant.

While PlayStation is hardly an insignificance in those two countries (about 25m sales in the US and 5m in the UK), it balances that with a healthy business across Japan and other parts of Europe. Although the chances of Xbox succeeding in Japan remain slim, its position across Europe could feasibly be strengthened.

US and Europe priority over "Safe" Japan
Quote
With Sony expecting Microsoft to tackle Europe more aggressively, CVG has heard from a company insider that PlayStation is "prepared to do whatever it takes" to ensure there is no PS4 delay across Europe.

It remains unclear whether there will be a PS4 supply shortage that would affect its output across any of the main three markets, but CVG understands that, if the launch stock is tight, the US and Europe will be the priority over the perceivably "safe" region of Japan.

All interesting stuff, but take note all this is not official, just from a apparent Sony insider..but it certainly will be interesting to see Microsofts plan

Ha,you could look into this soooo many ways

they have now launched an actual kickstarter(because of demand apparently) and extended the date

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/617502838/shadow-of-the-eternals

Eurogamer
Quote
The ex-Silicon Knights devs at Precursor Games have added an actual Kickstarter to supplement its Shadow of the Eternals crowdfunding campaign.

Previously, the Eternal Darkness spiritual successor only accepted donations through its official site. Those who donate that way will receive an exclusive "Whateley Expose," a digital collection of lore, manuscripts and clues from the clandestine Order of the Unseen.

Precursor also bolstered its event tiers so that the $100 Magikal Supporter reward now contains a digital art book and the Insane Supporter $5000 tier (which one person had claimed) now allows such generous backers the ability to contribute to the game's sanity events, artwork, music and storyline.

So why the Kickstarter? Precursor claimed it's "due to overwhelming popular demand," though one suspects the developer is struggling to meet it's goal with only $170,255 of its $1.5 million goal funded between both crowdfunding sites, and the Kickstarter's 19th June deadline is a couple of weeks later than the 7th June one on the official site, giving the fledgling dev more time to meet its goal.

Tales of Symphonia scored an impressive 9/10 upon its 2004 GameCube release.

In those markets where Star Trek films have seen their strongest business -- U.K., Australia and Germany -- aggregate grosses for Into Darkness were 56 percent ahead of Abrams' 2009 reboot.

The real test for Paramount came in Mexico, New Zealand and German-speaking Switzerland, where the space-set franchise has never been especially popular. The results: Into Darkness paced 250 percent ahead of the 2009 film.

Mexico was of particular importance, since sci-fi isn't a favored genre there (it's also one of the biggest markets for 3D fare). Into Darkness took in a stellar $3 million from 573 locations, triple the opening of the 2009 film...

...The U.K. led with $13.3 million from 556 locations, 50 percent better than the 2009 reboot. Into Darkness also dominated the market in Germany, grossing $7.6 million from 627 locations, 80 percent better. Australia took in $5.5 million from 263 locations, 50 percent ahead of the 2009 movie.
