that would be so cool if it came out here now, because officially on the 24th is also Blue Dragon day....a week and half to play Bioshock would fit nicely

Finally got it downloaded and ran through it this morning. I'm not blown away like a lot of people seem to be, but I'll certainly be buying it on day one. The visuals are gorgeous and it's got lots of atmosphere, but the combat is kind of boring. I'm sure that will change in the full version with access to all of the plasmids and what have you.

on the Combat point of view,i was liking how you could electrify the water to kill of enemies, and i was hoping there would be more clever ways of killing of your foes in the rest of the game

hacking the mobile machine gun things, was quite cool...i actually took one of them with me in to the end lift or whatever it was...and i am gonna do that when i play the full game...see if they can touch me then!!

i have been looking into a HDTV(after the many remarks on here when i got my PS3 and said that i didnt have a HDTV  icon_smile )

been looking into 3 TVs

SONY bravia 32" HD ready widescreen LCD....HD ready...that means it will look cool on my PS3 and 360...right?..thats £830

same again but TOSHIBA or PHILIPS and they are priced at £699

Metall,
IMHO you're be better served by spending the extra £'s on a Sony Bravia as it's quality is significantly better than any model you'll get from Toshiba or Phillips. If you ever plan on connecting a gaming PC to your HDTV, you'll be glad as hell you got the Bravia as it has features that are specifically for that purpose; native support for the 1366x768 PC resolution. I saw that exact model you listed connected to a PC running F.E.A.R and the effect was stunning.
One thing to note however, is that the Bravia doesn't support 1080p; just 480p,720p and 1080i. So you wouldn't be able to use the max display mode from you PS3, but it'll look awesome none the less.  slywink thumbsup

thanks for the info, the Bravia was the preffered choice,i just didnt wanna spend that much on TV that would of looked the same on a cheaper model ...my SONY widescreen trinton (not HD)gives of a great picture, and because of this as made me to want to buy a SONY HDTV more than any other brand in the future
14767  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Bioshock Demo on XBLM on: August 13, 2007, 10:03:41 PM
i was just re-reading the OXM review(it got 10/10 remember)

and it says that if you rush through the game, the main plot and you know what to do and do everthing straight away, you could proberbly finish the game in 8 hrs......but if you want to uncover sub plots and go at a normal pace it would take you at least 24hrs...they also said it was a rollercoster of a main plot that they wouldnt say aything about as they knew it would spoil things

Spoiler for Hiden:
as i have now found the subtitles i can hear/read a lot more that i missed the first time round...for one,is the first guy who gets killed from the splicer just as you entered rapture is a friend of Atlas's also some of the recording of the lonely woman at new years eve screaming that she is bleeding at the end of the recording....lol,and also when you are knocked out after first taking ADAM,and the little sister calling the big daddy 'mr bubbles'<<<i missed all of that without the subtitles

some more stuff i noticed when going at an incredibly slow pace was some picket cards on the floor saying things like 'Ryan doesnt own us'.....'Rapture is dead'......'Let it end,let us ascend'....and 'we're not your property'

one more thing is your character...with it being 1960,i am quite interested why he has those Tattoos of chains on his wrists...maybe slightly common in this age,but not that common in 1960....and also some of the banners around Rapture say things like 'industry is the chain that binds us'(or something like that)...so,could there be a 'link'(hee hee see what i d...oh forget it) between Rapture and your character?

Spoiler for Hiden:
did anyone else see that model of rapture in the glass case? it was dated november 1946 i think
Well, ifyou want it to be, the game game last hours upon hours. THe developers commented that you can really delve into the world and find out the whole backstory down to the story of individual people living/working there if you really wanted to. Which, by the way, is so effing cool.

wow,really??....that is cool, that will kick serious ass

and yeah i stop and look at everything as well, from plaques on the walls to reading what all the banners and posters say

loved it....i set the demo downloading and went to bed, woke up like it was christmas morning and ran to my 360...i had been asleep for about 5-6 hrs..everything had downloaded(i also downloaded the bioshock trailer)

size of the demo is....bigger than obviously heavenly sword, and bigger than stranglehold

this demo begins right from the start of the game,so maybe those out there not wanting anything spoilt ought to not play the demo yet

the graphics, the atmos were all very well done

there is a choice of difficulty for the demo, easy and medium...the hard difficulty wasnt able to be chosen

i have one complaint up to now...and hopefully because its a demo it will be rectified in the full game...i desperately need subtitles

could do with a little more emotion from your guy,,first time i killed someone,he didnt seem that bothered

EDIT:okay,i found subtitles,lol

14775  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Caved and Ordered a PS3: Need Advice on: August 12, 2007, 01:37:24 PM
1.  Are there any Greatest Hits titles for the PS3 yet?  I assume that Motorstorm or Resistance will be the first two.  Also, how much will the GH titles sell for?  I really don't want to spend $60 for a title.

none in UK yet, whether US have some yet i dont know, but yeah those two would prolly be the first...you may be able to find these titles cheap somewhere by now

2.  If I only buy one game right now that can show off the graphical power of the PS3, what game should I buy?  My LCD is a 37" Sharp Aquos that I got from Costco and it only goes up to 720p/1080i.

i would have to say motorstorm, put take into account i only have motorstorm, resistance and F1

3.  Can I save PS2 gamesaves to the PS3's hard disk?  Or do I need PS2 memory cards like I do for the Wii?

this is the pain in the ass part, you have to create amake believe PS1/PS2 card on your HDD..and then assign it to slots when you are using it..it is a pain really

4.  When the rumored rumble functionality is added, will it be available via a firmware update?

if it does come ,no way will it be a update...if you look at the controllers up to the light you will be able to see through the black plastic, and see just how empty the sixaxis really is

5.  What are the most needed accessories?  Right now, I'm thinking that I only need the Blu-ray DVD remote.

yeah i got the remote...but also,if playing online, you will need a bluetoooth headset, also remember that you dont get the HD leads

6.  Will an HDMI cable that I purchased from Monoprice work?  Anyone have any problems?

sorry i have no knowledge in that department.....but i dont see why not

7.  Is there anything else that I need to know?

if playing rub a dub, remember that the motion sensor is the controll on the pad...i was fighting with the D-pad for a long time
warhark retail will provide you with a free bluetooth headset

Thanks in advance for the help.

congrats on your purchase

14785  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [PS3]Home may completely replace the XMB on: August 10, 2007, 04:34:20 PM
whether this is a good idea or not i am not sure yet, wouldnt it be better to give us a choice if this really did come to be true?

Quote
-Home is currently capped at 60 people per room, for frame-rate issue reasons. If we can put in our two cents, we recommend a Phantasy Star Universe approach for the rooms -- players, you know what we mean.

-Travel between zones is more straightforward than originally planned. You can run as well as walk, or just use the magical PSP interface to warp wherever you want.

-Many organizations desire Home to completely replace the XMB. That is, when you boot up your PS3, you start off in your room in Home.

-Work on Home will continue well into next year, so the product we get in October is in no way the final version of the program

http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2007/08/09/home-may-completely-replace-the-xmb/

so,if you boot up the PS3 you start off in your room...perhpas if you want to watch a movie you go towards the TV,or if you wanna play a game you walk over to where ever you have you in game PS3

60 people in a room is fine for me really...thats quite a lot TBH

Nintendoís console simply doesnít have the graphical horsepower, and he candidly told us how the PS3 canít handle AI nearly as well as the 360.

Beyond the astronomical locations, you'll also discover derelict starships, secret bases on alien moons, lost satellites... the possibilities are amazing. And ultimately your exploration is in the context of an intense mission where everything you discover is another resource or clue to help you uncover a dark plot that threatens all life in the galaxy.

Quote
Of course, since this is the most non-linear game we've ever made, it's really hard to gauge just how long the game will last with a single number. But, at a guess, for players that want to get straight through the story, it should take more than 20 hours - for those who like to explore a little more through the game, across the larger galaxy, it could actually be double that.

Quote
Even though this is the first in a trilogy, our approach hasn't been to hold back, but to create the best possible first game as a standalone story, but with the awareness of trilogy issues to inform certain decisions. In other words, we're doing all the things we'd normally do to make this debut as amazing as possible, but because we're aware of an ongoing story arc we can make sure that long-term ideas are supported by the story of the first game. So even though this doesn't hold anything back in its story, well, we've built in hooks that allow us to do some crazy things in the next games.

it also talks about creating your character, how the core of the story can be unfolded in more ways thn one and more

Unsubstantiated rumors (i.e. no one decided to ask Midway) this morning suggested Stranglehold for the PlayStation 3, which is already releasing a few weeks after its Xbox 360 and PC counterparts, would be missing its September release date completely and moving to an unspecified launch window. Obviously, given the game's based on the Unreal Engine 3, many started trying to "connect the dots," given the engine's trouble on the platform.
1UP asked Midway what the deal was -- but there's nothing to report. Midway's European public relations counterparts simply forgot to attach a release date in a news blast about Stranglehold and the Internet ran with it. As of today, Stranglehold for PS3 is still on track for its previously announced September 17th release.
