seems sony has got to a flying start, announcing a lot of cool stuff for both the PSP and PS3

apparently SONY have done a deal with SKY(uk satellite and cable TV owned by Rupert murdoch)to make the PS3 a kind of SKY+ box, record and pause live tv etc..PLAYTV...this is all mostly Europe at the moment, but i am sure a U.S one will happen as well

and the PSP is getting the same kind of treatment, satellite navigation, vidoe and voice messaging and a video on demand service with SKY again

PLAYTV UNLOCKS FREE DIGITAL TV ON PLAYSTATION 3
Watch, record and replay TV shows on demand

Turn PS3 into a digital personal video recorder and record programmes to watch anytime, anywhere

Leipzig, 22 August 2007. At Games Convention today, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe announced the introduction of PlayTV - the software that turns PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) into a Personal Video Recorder (PVR). PlayTV will be available in UK, France, Italy, Germany and Spain early in 2008, with other PAL territories to follow in due course.

With the ability to watch, pause and record live TV from a huge range of free channels, PlayTV reinforces PS3’s rightful place in the Living Room at the heart of the family’s entertainment needs. Whether it is recording a programme whilst watching another, simply recording a entire series1 at the touch of a button or for watching programmes on the go via remote play on PSP™ (PlayStation®Portable), PlayTV offers a simple solution to it all.

“The introduction of PlayTV really will extend the already broad entertainment credentials of PS3, and makes it an exceptionally attractive proposition for the whole family,” said David Reeves, President of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. “PS3 already provides High Definition gaming, Blu-ray Disc movies, music, video, photo album, web browsing and PLAYSTATION Network support. With the introduction of PlayTV’s state of the art TV tuner and PVR functionality, PS3 is now the best choice of home entertainment hub for the whole family.”

PlayTV provides the sort of features you’ll only find on the most expensive PVRs:

* Two High Definition-ready TV tuners: both able to view, record and play TV in High Definition as well as standard definition.

* Electronic Programme Guide2: an incredibly user-friendly, seven-day interface, that provides the navigation for programming the PVR features of PlayTV – it’s fast and simple to use with either PS3’s SIXAXIS™ controller or the Blu-ray Remote Control.

* Compatibility: PlayTV operates on the widely available Digital Video Broadcasting – Terrestrial (DVB-T) format.

* Easy to use: Intuitive controls, single button help features, tutorial videos and simple navigation make PlayTV a joy to use compared with the complex navigation of other PVR models.

Optional on-screen graphical display provides a wealth of information about the status of PlayTV and provides quick access to programme information, stored TV programmes and the controls to pause or record live TV.

PlayTV will also set the correct interface for either Standard Definition or High Definition displays automatically for a hassle-free viewing experience.

* Portable viewing with PSP: Seamless PSP connectivity allows you to set recordings, watch Live TV and recorded TV programmes remotely on the PSP via a WiFi connection (using Remote Play feature) – or you can transfer video files to your PSP via USB cable.

* It’s future-proof: PlayTV will evolve with time – with new features added and updated via the PLAYSTATION®Network.

PLAYSTATION 3 was already more than a games console; now, it’s a TV tuner as well – PlayTV is one more reason why PS3 should be right at the centre of the living room.

1. Series recording currently only available in the UK.
2. Subject to availability, country dependent.

seems BLU-RAY/FOX are gonna have something to say

fox set to renew BLU-RAY commitment

Quote
After months of silence, Fox Home Entertainment is planning to issue an announcement later today renewing its support for the Blu-ray format, and outlining the studio's upcoming release plans.

The move comes after this morning's shocking revelation that Paramount and DreamWorks have switched allegiances exclusively to rival HD DVD, news which has left those on all sides of the format war blind-sided.

We've just received official confirmation from Fox today that in response to Paramount's announcement, they are currently fast-tracking a press release reiterating their exclusive support for Blu-ray, as well as providing long-awaited details on their future release plans.

Though Fox (who also distributes MGM titles) was one of the early and most vocal major studio backers of Blu-ray, the studio has largely stepped out of the high-def sweepstakes for the past several months. Neither Fox nor MGM has released nor announced a single Blu-ray title on the format since 'Hoosiers' in early March. They also cancelled a huge slate of planned winter high-def releases, including such hits as 'Mr. & Mrs. Smith,' 'From Hell' and 'Me, Myself & Irene,' which have yet to be rescheduled.

EDIT:someone has just posted this over on major nelsons blog

Paramount and Dreamworks went HD DVD exclusive today. Because that's when the Sony Press Conference is, of course. The update will contain lots of trailers from the show as well as an English language Folklore demo.

it says(title on the page) the folklore demo is coming to EU store, but i wouldnt bet against it going to the US store

compared to the US store, our store is a bit of a joke......but demos are always welcome, especially if its a maybe buy...and RPG is whats missing on the PS3

Europe finally got its 360 price cut(30 quid off the premium)

but there are also reports that the 3 packs will get a new name

Elite will be £300 instead of £329(launches this friday here)...and will be black

premium will be called the Xbox 360 Pro and will cost £250(usually £280 new,but you can easily go below the new price and find a deal somewhere)...and will come in silver....whether thats just the disc tray as usual i dont know, proberbly

core will be called Xbox 360 arcade and will come with a memory card with 5 arcade games loaded on it
and will cost £180...which means the core doesnt get a price cut, proberbly because of the arcade games...wish there was a choice there

the story is well done as well, having the scenes take place inbetween the scenes of the movie

looking forward to putting some hours into this one

oh,one thing though,i started a new game and unlike a lot of 360 games,i didnt have to delete my previous saved game,as it had 4 slots,so i start the game and straight away it gave me 250k(you dont usually start with 250k do you?)....i think i got the downloadable money for the last game(whenever that was),good to know that it can be used for new games as well, but i have no idea why i got the download on the last game as i really didnt need the money

well,if i do ever see FF8 again for sale i will pick it up,just on the off chance that it may work(should be dirt cheap)

i just tried all 4 discs of final fantasy 9...just to make sure they all boot up fine, and they do...so i guess that will be next in a few weeks(after playing bioshock and blue dragon to death)

After many months of anticipation I finally got my copy of Bioshock and played through it over the past few days. There are many things to like about Bioshock such as the graphics (not animation), parts of the story and the water effects. That’s about where the good stuff ends.

First let me say how excited I was for the game after playing the demo on the 360. While the animation seemed stiff and you could tell the 360 was being pushed too hard it still looked like it had a lot of potential. So imagine my disappointment when I got the final version only to find none of the animation hitches, shooting glitches and AI was cleaned up. I also wonder how much better the graphics would’ve been had they not been compressed to fit on a DVD. Now I do not fault the developers for this, they only had so much system power to work with so maybe this will all be addressed with the PS3 version when it comes out.

To conclude, let this game cook in the oven just a little bit longer and wait for the superior PS3 version. Cleaned up textures, animations, AI, extra weapons, Home space, standard HDD and Blu-ray will make this flawed game into a perfect gem.

SDF Score: 5/10

scares me into thinking how many people listen to these, people should stick to unbiased reviews on unbiased gaming sites...like Gaming Trend slywink nod icon_biggrin

P.S. i know i have only played the demo up to now,but even if i think its bad when i do purchase it,i still cant see it being as bad as a 5/10...and i think that the replies on that page speak for themselves aswell
