Wow, it's amazing how Blue Dragon takes an almost Oblivion-style turn towards open-ended gameplay towards the end like that

prolly catered for people who are getting tired of the game and they can go straight to the end levels  icon_lol  (i have 50 hrs in now...i am guessing at least another 5..maybe 10 will see me to the end)
14482  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [360]Lost Odyssey videos on: September 17, 2007, 08:51:51 PM
teamxbox have posted 3 videos from lost odyssey, they look really good(and a little bizarre)...

the first video is in Japanese, the second is commentated in Japanese, but subtitled in English

the first video shows mostly a cut scene

the second video shows combat, and i maybe wrong, but it loooks like you select actions for all your team before anyone does anything, and you can recognise enemies from final fantasy and blue dragon games, the field screen looks very much like final fantasy 10,with linear paths and the map in the corner

the third video tells you about camera control,i would like to have more camera control than what he is showing, but thats just me

if you are familair with Blue dragon and final fantasy 10,you can see the bar in the lower left hand side of teh screen when fighting,it shows the order of whos to strike, blue dragon had it along the top of the screen and i think FF10 had it going down on the right hand side of the screen...oh,and he doesnt do to well at the end of video 3

http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/14544/Lost-Odyssey-TGS-2007-Gameplay-Video/

1st video: 4:20
2nd video: 5:00
3rd video: 4:56

note:for some reason i always have a problem playing the videos on teamxbox,so i had to save them to my desktop and watch them from there

http://dpad.gotfrag.com/halo3/story/39839/

just to be safe i would disconnect from LIVE...play the single player, and get that out of the way,so when the game does actually get released you can go straight onto LIVE and play away(not that i liked HALO online)
14484  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: What are you buying this week? (9/17) on: September 17, 2007, 08:25:10 PM
nothing until Halo 3 next week, some bastard has leaked the ending on internet sites,i guess i will have to be careful what i read

and eternal sonata isnt out for a while yet here in the UK(19th oct),or i would of got that

there is a interview on Cand VG..(which i have lost some faith in recently...but this makes up for that somewhat)

to be fair for G and VG,below they have asked some good questions, some that i wanted to know(apart from the 'Gay' one)

Dr. Greg Zeschuk, co-founder and president of the mighty BioWare, is always a great interview. It immediately becomes clear as soon as he enters to room that he can't wait to sit down and have a good chat about Mass Effect and where it's going.

Would you say this is BioWare's most challenging game to date in terms of ambition and what you want to achieve with it?

Greg Zeschuk: Every time we do a new game we want to up the ante. Mass effect has probably covered more territory than any other game we've ever done. In terms of technology and design it's certainly been the most challenging. I'd sort of give a qualified 'yes' on that.

Do you feel there's a lot of pressure on you to really deliver with the game?

Zeschuk: Yes, for a few reasons. One is time - we've spent a lot of time on this game. Second is that, along the way, we've picked up a lot in terms of awards, PR and expectations of the game. The third is down to our own desire to be successful and stamp our mark on the next-generation. There are already some great games out there and this is ours.

The menu clearly states there'll be downloadable content at some point. What can you tell us about that?

Zeschuk: It might do (laughs). We certainly have plans with what we want to create for downloadable content and we'll announce them around the time of launch. We have a long history with post release content. For us it's about value and fair trade. If you're going to pay us money we want you to get something that's really cool.

We've been working a lot on what kind of package we'll do. Downloadable content can really help and drive the longevity of a game so we'll be going aggressive on it.

So are we talking about extra missions?

Zeschuk: We haven't absolutely nailed down exactly what we're going to do. Our perspective on it is that the edges on Mass Effect are almost none-existent so you can continue to push. It could be a range of things.

It could be more content it could be new equipment or game features. We're really going to take some time and think about what we can do there.

Any plans for a downloadable demo before release?

Zeschuk: We're still thinking of the exact form the demo could take.

So there is a demo planned then?

Zeschuk: Probably... I'm being particularly non committal... Our goal would defiantly be to have one depending on time challenges and things. I can't remember who said it, I think it was Mark Rein.

I'd hate to quote Mark (laughs), but it's a huge challenge getting a game and demo out around the same time. We're still thinking about how exactly that's going to play out. We're clearly running out time though.

You've already expressed your plans for Mass Effect to be a trilogy. Do you see all three games being released on Xbox 360?

Zeschuk: Certainly out intent is to have all three iterations or instalments of Mass Effect to be on Xbox 360. That's the goal.

Exclusively to 360 all the way?

Zeschuk: Can't really comment on that aspect yet, it's too far into the future. Thinking a year in to the future is a big challenge these days.

The law we can't control is the length of the console cycle. I hope, I hope, I hope that this cycle is longer than the last one. We kind of just got started last cycle and it kind of ended when our second game came out. Downloadable content could also bridge the gap by giving you new little islands of story between the big game releases.

Now you've built the game engine will the sequel be developed much quicker than the original?

Zeschuk: I think that's absolutely true. The guys at BioWare have done a great job of creating all the tools and technology to make game creation easier. That's one of the reasons we cross our fingers and hope that this console cycle lasts a long time because we've created a great suit of tools and tech that allow us to build stuff. What took people to make a year can sometimes now be done in three or four days.

What's your take on the whole DVD versus Blu-ray disc storage issue? Has it made a difference to Mass Effect?

Zeschuk: The DVD format is a trick one. We're on one DVD and we're a truly massive game and that'll speak for itself as far as how we got it all on there. Rendered movies take up a lot of space and we're doing a lot in engine, in real time.

You have to be very judicious and smart with compression. I don't think that DVD is going to make the worst game. This is a good game, Bioshock was a good game. I think that speaks for itself.

There's an element of romance in the game. Can you confirm if you can be gay in the game?

Zeschuk: I can't say anything about that at this point. There's some interesting stuff on the game that's a little bit different. I'll leave it at that.

Last question then, when are you going to announce KOTOR III?

Zeschuk: (Big laughs all round) I don't have an answer to that question. It's been talked about for a while. When I played Mass Effect I got a strong KOTOR feel. You know we loved the KOTOR games and it's always been a soft spot in our hearts.

In some ways this could be the spiritual successor to those games, but I'd say it channels some of the feel of those games. Maybe that's because Mass Effect is made by many of the same guys that worked on KOTOR...

er..was that link to go to a release schedule?,cos thats what i got

anyway,i am still waiting for this page to activate
http://www.homebetatrial.com/

its been like that for 2 months now

i am looking forward to it,but my guessing is that i will prolly get bored after a week or two...some of the features are great if they work(like playing videos from your HDD/PSP memory card on in HOME bravia TVs)

i am wondering how it will work actually,i am sure the space for everyone is a little to small, even if it has got cinemas and arcade gallery and such...will there be a limit on numerous servers?...i wish they would release more info about it actually
14487  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Stuck in Blue Dragon *spoilers* on: September 17, 2007, 07:46:57 PM
actually i have just been looking it up

after you get the merchat

theres the sea cube,(which has the black device for the black barriers)
mecha base(in the ice fields...i just got my 10+ encounter achievement here)
keleso village(this is what i have just done, and its where i have saved)
the aurora ruins(find out why Toripo wants to be there so much)
ancient ruins-forest(you may remember this as the other part of the demo that was on xbox live)
deserted islands(as mentioned above)
upper mecha base

and then,there are the cube worlds(mecha robo,primitive)

so there are still lots of places to go to explore and level while you explore for those final cube worlds

its actually still 66 days for me Tongue

the sea cube is the first of the cubes you should do which is just north of Jibral castle

i did it last night, its quite a lenghty thing,i am level 44-45 ATM

and for the boss in the sea cube you may want to

Spoiler for Hiden:
make sure you have protection against water attacks, because the water snake is in 6 parts head, neck stomach, spine etc,and each one is a bit of a bitch, and his water attacks sting a little...even if you use your limit breaks(hey i'm calling them that okay!!),they willl only kill one part of the snake which ever part you are on,no matter how much damage it does

that Poo snake that Pharaoh mentions is easy, gives you an achievement for killing it as well......i had the shoes of hermes on(which i had to get from a black barrier chest in the ancient factory)and the poo bracelet...if you dont have something of hermes on it just flees straight away and you cant kill it

alot of walkthrus also are for the harder settings, mainly Japan as we havent 'officially' had the harder setting yet

Two things killed the PS3 - Blu and Ray.  Sony made a fatal mistake hitching their wagon to Blu-Ray and trying to market the PS3 as a "total entertainment solution".  While some may want all that, most just want to play games on their console.

Sony's console is going to be a failure.  (Heck it already is!)
Sony's Blu-Ray is going to be a failure as well.  (Sales are already in decline!)  Not to mention that Sony just got more insane and have announced that they are moving to just Blu-Ray and dropping DVD entirely.  How many mistakes can Sony make?  It seems limitless to me.

as much as i agree with what you are saying, but i still think that SONY with the blu-ray in the PS3 'could' come off good,as we are seeing games struggle to fit everything on a DVD(GTA,PGR4)

i do agree that SONY dropping DVD is a stupid move, and i hope all those people missing out on SONY DVDs,go to HD-DVD...screw them,it isnt up to them to decide this by just MAKING people go Blu-ray by cutting off people like me(who is a DVD fan and doesnt feel as though the leap in technology is big enough yet for a new format)

This may sound kind of weird but Bioshock's numbers are much lower than I expected.  At the beginning of August I would have said that almost 500k would be amazing, but given the general level of hubbub since, I expected 600-700k not numbers comparable to what Crackdown and Lost Planet did their first months.  I'll be interested to see if it gets the typical 80-90% second month dropoff.

Those are only 360 numbers.

Also amazing how even small price drops like with the 360 can help sales. At $400 people just won't get it but at $50 less 100K more decided it was worth it.

the 360 here in the UK have shot up in sales 260%

I usually agree with a lot of your opinions kevin...but to completely re-launch the hardware with a totally new name/branding?  that's absurd IMO

SONY have already lost money on the machine(like most consoles in first 6-12 months),the best they can do is come up with some kick ass games(doesnt seem as though they are trying at the moment)...then both us and sony will win....its a long haul until the january 2008 when the first of the must haves is out(MGS4)

The game you are referring to is True Fantasy Live Online, an MMORPG that was being developed by the awesome Level 5 (DQ8, Dark Cloud, Jeanne D'Arc, White Knight Story, Rogue Galaxy) and published by MS.

TFLO (corrected above) was canned, and we all hope they revive it.
FFXI is the only "successful" MMORPG on consoles to date, is it not?

depends how you mean by succesful...some people dont see it as a good game, but i guess it could still be sucessful....i think its a good game, but weighed down the constant levelling that is needed...started with the beta and then went to the full release...Myto still plays it a hell of a lot though

the only other MMO i can even think off on a console at the moment is phantasy star online....i was in the 360 beta of that as well, but didnt really like it that much

there are a few more now coming into view...didnt SE say they had another one in production?...Conan,and i have no idea what happened to that Marvel one<<<that sounded great!!

if they do revive the true fantasy live online game....i am wondering how much they will charge for it,if it happend....as you dont need LIVE gold for FFXI.....so,would you need it for that,or would it be super cheap if you already have Gold..etc etc

and Jarrodhk, yeah i figured it out,thanks...i have my preferanced weapons(with infer red dot) and did 3 sets exactly the same(except for the gun camo) ,and named them woodland, desert and digital because thats what the gun camo is called, and then depending on what level i go on,i choose the one i need(crash=desert...overgrown=woodland....vacant=digital)

i have ranked up all i can now(level16,+1049 xp)...hope they raise the cap again, there are rumours on cod4 site that they are going to raise it again later to 25

anyway, now that xbox live has been fixed,i havent had any problems whatsoever

EDIT:oh and i was suprised when i got the helicoptor,i was stood still thinking it was going to pick me up,but it was all automatically while i was still on the ground shooting

questions

i have made rank 10,and earlier i unlocked to use your pistol when you have been shot...how do you do that?,i have often been killed by someone i have just shot down

and also, the infer red dot sight,i have unlocked that as well, but cant equip it

is all this in 'barracks'?

hmm,dunno....i thought as long as you had the DLC you could go ahead...but saying that, there are a lot of things to do other than SI

i was going to buy this version until i learnt that i wont have ALL the DLC

so i may as well keep my regular copy with all the packs downloaded

great game though, and the only game where i have all 1250 achievement points

i finsihed this last night, and christ that last level took about 3 hrs to do....mainly because i kept getting lost and would wander about a lot,and the enemies are quite hard

good game, better than a lot of past MoH games,i really wanted another night mission but oh well

hold out for the PS3...or if you do get one, then you can download PS1 games and play them on the PSP

the games up for the rest of this year pale when compared to the 360 games(obviously exclusives)...early next year though, with the start of MGS4,things will certianly heat up,i would say wait until then to splash out on a PS3
