I am actually playing Metal Gear Solid (1) on my PSOne which has the attached LCD screen. I couldn't stomach the graphics on my HDTV. Last night I made it pass my first boss battle...Revolver Ocelot.
i know i may get flamed about this, but i absolutely can not play the original MGS1 for PS1,i love MGS1:the twin snakes(the remake) on the Cube(now played on the Wii),and i always play that instead of my PS1 Version...and i wont be buying MGS1 if it turns up on the playstation store(unless its an updated version..then i will lap it up)...i guess i really do move with the times,as the original resident evil looks like dogshit on a plate now,but back in the day,i remember being gobsmacked by it

EDIT:the final fantasy games have held up though, they still look fine, especially FF9

Random tidbit about the Snake shooting himself bit - ever watch the opening title screen? I was worried what was going to happen from the get go, as it's obvious he's doing something with that gun as the camera scrolls away from him.

What about the pre-release stuff where he stuffs a gun in his mouth in the middle east.  I don't recall seeing that in game.

thats from the next game,LOL

i think pretty much all Japanese games have some gay overtones to them..i mean a lot of the guys look very Feminine...

but then theres the girls, the P.Y.T.s(michael jackson right there..i mean the song PYT..not the other 'young thing')in japanese games that look like their mothers dont care what they wear, how high their skirts are and whether they will catch their death of colds in those skimpy outfits..oh and they all have humongous, extremely large Breasts, and aren't afraid of showing them off

so i think it evens out icon_lol

call of duty 2 and call of duty 3 should be cheap now, still great games

Project Gotham Racing 4 i absolutely loved.....didnt like the others for some reason

lego star wars :..either the original trilogy or the complete saga(former would be cheaper, but latter you get all the movies)
lego indiana jones

for Value..and as PeteRock says i also reckon you should go with the orange box, which contains Half-Life 2,Half-Life 2:episode 1,Half-Life 2:episode 2,Team Fortress 2 and Portal...all great games and as its over 6 months old now,you will prolly find cheap

All I know was that Cloud was the main guy and I just met him in this game. How the heck does he get my sword??

grr  icon_mad...so you have the buster sword now????

okay

9 hrs in
level 20
chapter 5

still havent got the foggiest about the DMW,i went on last night and did a lot of side missions,it took about 30-40 minutes until i levelled and then two minutes later i levelled again!!..it has to be random, which makes me think its pretty much broken

i was on the PSP forums, and someone there said to get the wheel spinning for you more, you have to make sure not to kill the monsters too quick.....too quick??..WTF is that?,i have been kicking the crap outta these montsrs, and now i have to take my time with them....tease them even

i am on/off with the game,if it had normal levelling up i would be a kick ass game.....story has gone a little quiet ATM,although i have now met Aeris or Aerith whatever..and apparently we are gonna make a flower wagon and sell flowers around Midgar...

i actually picked port ops+ in the shops, thinking it was 'directors cut' of port ops...thankfully,the warning at the back of the case said no offline content, this is an online game only

i will start PO again soon, and maybe actually get to the first boss this time,i was loving the game a while back and then got distracted by other releases and never got back to it...took me a while though to set up the controls that i was comfortable with

(i still want a PS2 version)

lot of songs i know...and love, but there is a lot of songs that arent there, that i would love

hearts done time, eat the rich, crazy, cryin',janies got a gun...even dont wanna miss a thing isnt there(although not my favourite song..but it is their biggest hit on this side of the pond)...the beatles covers, come together and helter skelter would of been two great additions as well

but i am very cool with the cult she sells sanctuary..that song rocks

i will still get this game,COD3 was still a good enough effort online even though there was a lot of things missing

TBH though, that trailer was pretty shit IMO...didnt they say they were using the COD4 game engine?,because that looked nothing like it(cut scene or not cut scene)

wonder if you can climb up trees like that in the game?
13573  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Crisis Core: FF7 on: June 22, 2008, 01:38:44 PM
level 12 now,and pretty much starting to hate the game, the combat and that DMW is just not what i would call practical...sometimes you can dodge attacks sometimes you are rooted to the spot until the enemies attack is over, when you start a new fight the old actions are still activeated from the old match so everytime i go into a match i start mashing that x button only to find that thunder is still selected

i am gonna carry on as much as i can for the story and cutscenes, but with work tomorrow and guitar hero aerosmith on friday,it will be lucky to start getting the time needed

Yeah, I don't really have a problem with the "upbeat" ending because, really Snake was a dead man anyway and that carries a lot more weight to me than killing off Meryl, Johnny, or somebody.  If they had copped out and "fixed" Snake's aging then I would probably agree but he was going to dead within six months of the end of the game anyway so it's very bittersweet IMO.

nah,he told Otacon he was gonna quit smoking,so that will prolly put 5 years on his life,LOL

level 9
chapter 3
3 and a half hours

still absolutely no idea how the DMW works...is the levelling up just at various points of the game or are they like it feels, just random

i just beat the Bahamut...but later found out that i should of been level 13,and i hit level 9 half way through that fight

everything else is great,graphics,sound,story,...but this levelling up and whatever else you get through this one armed bandit,is not great at all

Question about the Mantis Fight: At one point the screen goes blank and it says Hideo 02 or something. What was that about? I never heard the 'voice of god'.

did you play MGS1?...this happened HIDEO1..in MGS1 when fighting Psycho Mantis...i think this is just more for the fans...and no,i never heard the voice of god either, although i did see Hideo's name credited to that

Quote
Other Qs:

1. Drebin (who I hate) says that the patriots were leading the good guys by the nose. Did they just not account for Naomi's virus?
dont know,Naomi was hard to read by everyone i think...just when you thought she was bad she was good and when you thought she was good she was bad only to end up good again

2. Why would everyone be trying to stop Ocelot from trying to end the Patriots' reign? I didn't connect the dots as to why it would be so bad for him to bring down the system. They said that he would be an uber baddie, but I didn't get whey. He wanted to free everyone from the Patriots....so...why not?
This may come under what we were talking about above, were the bad guys really bad guys?,Snake, again was a pawn for the Patriots......maybe it was just HOW he was going about it

3. Who is Jonny. There's a flashback to MGS1 where he says he always loved Meryl. I have no idea who he was (intially I thought he was a disguised Raiden playing up his inability to do anything...)
again, this is for the fans of the series,Johnny was always a soldier who we never saw his face, meryl stole his clothes in MGS1,and whenever Snake was caught in the series,Johhny would be on watch outside his cell...and then have stomach trouble and need the toilet.....in MGS2,you can hear him if you point the directional microphone to the left, when you are trying to listen in on a conversation with Olga,Ocelot and Solidus...when you are with the hostages

if i remember rightly,in MGS3 as its set in '64,i think its johnny's father or some relation outside Snakes cell, and he shows Snake(naked snake)pictures of his family

4. Did we know in MGS2 that Sigint was the Darpa chief? I must have totally missed that
i didnt,i first found out in this game.....in fact i dont think Signit was an actual known character until metal gear solid 3

5. I thought for sure upon meeting the first beauty that it was gonna turn out that they were clones of The Boss.
nice idea

6. What's the whole child soldiers thing that keeps popping up? is that Kojima's most direct message that war is wrong?
yeah he has always been pipeing on about it during all of his games...which makes him a little two faced in my opinion,if he hates war so much, how many more great games is he gonna make that makes all us 12-40 year olds wanna be snake,LOL

7. Why did Mantis die? He was showing his powers and then poof he died. What was that?
dont know...maybe he worn himself out,i think i need to play this game again as i am starting to forget already...i can hardly remember that fight, apart from firing that doll at the BB mantis..and then Psycho mantis trying to make my Sixaxis Rumble(liek i have tried many a time)...maybe he worn himself out,or he just wanted to prove his point and then do one,LOL

as for Raiden losing his other arm,i think it happened when he was holding the ship back from hitting snake on the docks, only we dont see it as Raiden gets taken underwater and a few slabs of concrete go with him,so i am guessing it happened underwater

i too would of preffered it if someone had died......Meryl would be my choice, pretty much hated her in this one,as she was always turning her nose up at whatever Snake was doing, yes this the same Woman who owes me her damn life because i never gave in to torture on my first visit to Shadow moses...does she not appreciate how many times i had to bash that button?...stuck up bitch!! icon_lol

I turned it down to Easy and had very few problems (and I suck at FPS).  I care far more about getting through the story and experiencing the setting than I do about trying to play through something that is frustratingly difficult.

I think that's what I'll do too, this just isn't fun as is. I really like the setting, the story, the graphics, the lighting, audio, voice acting ... pretty much everything else., but the BD fights are ruining the whole thing for me.

Can you turn it down to easy without having to restart the game?

As for the beauties, if you just run for a few minutes from them eventually the screen will go white and you'll be alone with just them and a timer starts going down.

Bit amusing and weird, if you have a camera during this time and equipe it the beauties will pose for you. After the 3 minutes they just die regardless of what you do.

and if you equip your Ipod and get some music going they start dancing
13582  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Crisis Core: FF7 on: June 21, 2008, 10:04:10 AM
okay, got about 45 minutes in this morning....loving the advent children style cutscenes, and it brought a smile to my face when zack got off the train and it was the same platform as the beginning of FF7

still havent done enought to figure out the DMW wheel thing, although i have read the tutorial emails,i still am not up on it,experience will prolly the best teacher there

Zack, even though Cloud took his persona on...is very different to Cloud,he seems loud, and a bit arrogant where Cloud was quiet and very cold really(and still was in advent children)..i was expecting the two to be very much more alike

i am not that far in but what i have played i can tell that it really helps if you have played the first(apart from all the characters and places, even now mentioning the war in Wutai)...as a stand alone game i know i would be missing out on all the little touches

and seeing this in action,i may be swayed to actually wanting to see a FF7 remake..whether it be on the PSP or not

oh,one more thing

i would also like to see Before Crisis hit a platform that isnt mobile phones,as i dont play games on my mobile, but i would like to play the game though

what is the order of the games?..is this the order?

Before Crisis:Final Fantasy VII-Mobile
Crisis core:Final fantasy VII-PSP
Final Fantasy VII-PS1/PC
Dirge Of Cerberus:Final Fantasy VII-PS2
Advent Children:Final Fantasy VII-DVD/BR/UMD

anyway...B.O.T.,seems there is some shit happening with the reviews of this...some sites are scoring it as low as 3/10,and then Atari are threatening to sue them as they dont know how they got a copy...and some other wierd crap going on,here is the link,as usual if you cant be arsed clicking on the link i have quoted it below

Quote
This week, the following events took place: 1. We got a bunch of tips telling us that the Xbox 360 version of Alone in the Dark had turned up on BitTorrent sites. 2. Scandinavian games site GameReactor (The Norwegian edition specifically) were one of the first to review Alone in the Dark. They gave it 3/10. Ouch. However, they then promptly pulled the review, and accusations of shady dealings were levelled against the site by Atari, who said that press copies had only been sent out the day before (the review has since been reinstated, and the 3/10 stands). Odd, seeing as many other European publications also had reviews go live this week, but whatever. 3. German site 4Players reviews the game. Gives it 68%. Then is threatened with legal action by Atari because, yes, Atari had no idea how the site got a copy of the game.

4Players' EIC Jörg Luibl says that Atari's lawyers have accused them of "breaking the law and violating the rights of their client (Atari)", all because 4Players reviewed the game prior to its release, but without using a copy sent to them by Atari. 4Players maintain that, like many other games not sent to them by publishers, they secured a copy via a "trusted dealer". Which could well just be a firendly local GAME manager cracking open his shipment of the game before the street date, it could be point #1 (the leaked copies of the game), who knows.

It's interesting that Atari are so worried about publications securing their own copy of a game. Do they fear that, because these outlets may have received copies of the game "early" (ie from pirated copies), that they're somehow reviewing incomplete code, which could affect their opinion of the game? Maybe. Pessimists could, however, be forgiven for thinking it's a convenient excuse for Atari to attack negative reviews of the only game they're releasing in 2008 that has any chance of making them some money.

UPDATE - Tor-Steinar Nastad Tangedal, from Norwegian site Gamer.no, has contacted us with a similar story. He writes (though without proof we're unable to confirm this):

Quote
Gamer.no was the second publication in the world to publish a review, and we also gave it 3 out of 10. The review was based on a retail copy obtained from a store on Tuesday this week. Atari contacted us just minutes after it was published, claiming that our review is probably based on a preview or pirated copy, and requested it to be removed. We never removed it, of course.

Just been to GAME myself today and saw the game in store, and also saw the special edition there......BUT,i went there to pick up Crisis Core:final fantasy...and thats what i came out with(and the Bradygames guide)

EDIT:oh,.and about AITD...i really can't see it being as shit as 3/10..i think even superman returns game got more than that, and that was mega crap..i know i havent played the game yet,but if its bad sure....but 3/10 bad?...nah

3) i see no need for remakes: the 4-part 'solid' saga now exists as both a closed circle & a beautiful little history of the evolution of the medium at the same time, which i think's something worth preserving...

i would actually like to see metal gear and metal gear 2 remade(not MGS and MGS2)..they are not called SOLID,but they star him and they are also an important part of the whole story, and also has Big Boss in it...i do have them on the subsistance MGS3 special edition disc, but because they are old NES/MSX games,i only played a bit of them, and couldnt really get into them at all...would very much rather have a PSP remake or even any kind of remake

i do understand what you mean though,i am guessing you are the kind of person who doesnt really want to see a FF7 remake either...i am in two minds over that one as well

oh and for everyones Infomation..there is now a metal gear solid database up on this weeks PSN store update..so if its up now,go and get it

Finding yourself flummoxed by all that Metal Gear history being bandied about in Metal Gear Solid 4's extremely wordy cut scenes? Konami and the PlayStation Store are coming to your aid, launching the Metal Gear Solid 4 Database tomorrow, a "free, downloadable interactive application that contains the official knowledge base of everything that is Metal Gear." It's sure to come in handy if you're a new recruit to the series.

What's included? Complete storylines, character profiles, relationship diagrams(!), plus "much more." The best part? Spoiler protection, as sensitive information that might ruin your MGS4 experience is "blacked out" until you've completed the game.

We'll have to check with the official Kotaku excitement tracker, but we don't remember being this enthusiastic about a database ever.

if this isnt up on the UK store then my U.S account is getting fired up

What's so great about in game XMB anyways?  Please inform me.  One caveat is that I almost never play online and I never have anyone sending me messages.  So with that in mind, how is in-game XMB the shiznit?

Well, one of the reasons why no one sends messages much is that if you're on the PS3 it's likely you're playing games on it, thus being unable to read the message.  Once in-game XMB is released it becomes a lot easier to communicate with friends on the PS3, and thus easier to setup games to play together.

And it will become viable for these asshats to come on over to the PSN. frown

well that will be good for me then as i hardly play on PSN......LIVE however is a different story, but its really getting a bad name because of these types of people......just the other night i was called ...called a....*wimper*...an English Muffin!!!...those cruel bastards!!!,cried myself to sleep that night i tell ya crybaby disgust

yeah i was kind of suprised that they were suprised that Snake was ageing faster than normal

clones have always been known to age quicker...look at Dolly the sheep(a real life cloned sheep)

the clones in the star wars films, they have to age quicker or as those weird long necked aliens said, training would take a lifetime

No hate for the Raiden junk-holding level in MGS?

hmm,close...it was MGS2 but swimming underwater with Emma(E.E.),camera facing the oppersite way when you surface,so when you go back down your facing the wrong way and no doubt end up swimming back the way you just came...hate,hate,hate

sorry for your badluck MsDuncan, you sound like me when it was a week before GTA4 release and my 360 got 3 rings and my PS3 wouldnt play discs .....both happened on the same day(it was a sunday...a bloody sunday)

the ps3 was reformatted,so i lost all my data, however it started to work again, and still does(fingers crossed)

my 360 had to be sent back and i borrowed my sisters 360(which is mine really anyway)..and MS were pretty swift actually,it took them under a week to get my 360 back repaired as well..so i didnt lose any GTA4 playing time

yeah i liked Prey...a bit anyway,got lost too often,LOL

but the graphics reminded me of prey's graphics.especially the lead character(he looked a bit like Tommy, and no i am not trying to be racist in saying it is because he is Native American, like Tommy was...or at least i thought the alone in the dark guy was as well)...but the graphics, looked great in some places and dodgy in others.....it may just be me,or my TV,remember i am SONY widescreen SD 32" vega(or wega)...not HD anyway

i have however seen on another making of or diary vid or something when you have a flaming chair(as in a chair that is on fire),and waving it about, that looked cool
13598  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Alone in the Dark on: June 17, 2008, 08:40:04 PM
hmm,i just downloaded the 'making of' from XBL,and it does look good, however i cant decide whether i like the graphics, some are good in places but in others it looks like a poor mans 'Prey'
