played the demo, weren't really my cup of tea(mainly because it totally threw me as what i was expecting),but i could see how people would/could find it addictive maybe..but as i say,i only played the demo
13363  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Silent Hill Homecoming on: August 31, 2008, 12:48:26 AM
finished Silent Hill 2-5hrs 21 minutes

still a great game, and still spooky in places, just walking along in the prison or the hotel and then a big loud scream happens for no reason apart from walking past a locked door is what these games should be all about,LOL....shat myself i did!!,i hope there are more of those moments in part III(which i have never played)...gonna start it now

funnily enough, its nearly 2am now..and i am hearing a lot of strange creaking or noises around my house(downstairs and then upstairs) icon_confused paranoid

hmm,i am willing to make that trade(if i do ever trade in my old PSP for a new PSP),i have only been 'caught out' once or twice with letting my battery run right down while playing...i am usually ahead of the PSP when it comes to time to charging it...30 minutes off wont make that much of a difference for me...and you can always make it dimmer...right??

Speaking of origins, is it any good?  The shots I have seen seem to be a major step backwards graphics-wise from previous games, especially number 3.   And is it more action or puzzle oriented?

i liked the game a lot more than i thought i would(i played the PS2 version)...the graphics i never really had a problem with, silent hill games always look gritty...its just how it is,and when enemies get close, things get even more gritty,so the actual graphics seem fine to me

but like the GT review says, its part of the SH1+3 story about Dahlia and Alessa Gillespie and the whole wierdo cult thing...so you may feel lost if you havent played the those for a while(i know i did,but its all starting to fit in now i am replaying the later titles)..if you can remember those titles well(if you have played them),then i am sure the story will be fine for you

i would say much more action than puzzles, the puzzles were so-so for being hard...cant remember if there was a riddle difficulty level on that game...there is a kind of Rubics Cube puzzle near the end, which had me stumped for a while, but i just messed about for about 20 or so minutes and stumbled onto the right combination(the internet says there is a easy way of doing it,but i read that after i finished the game)

still a good edition to the games though IMO...need to get back to silent hill 2 tonight, maybe after the footy match icon_smile

EDIT:oh and i didnt have a problem with the camera in the game, when it swings in front of you,you just press L1(or was it L2) and it whips back behind you so you can tell what the hell is in front of you

EDIT2: and that GT review is pretty spot on ..apart from trouble with weapons,i always used a gun and use the auto aim R2(or was it R1?)..and yes i hated the Sanitarium as well
13367  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: XFPS RATEUP. Anyone tried it on COD4? on: August 28, 2008, 08:04:08 PM
this is pretty good,...i am actually a controller guy,i can understand the mouse part of wanting those controls, but as for the keyboard part ,i have no idea how you can even play like that, your left hand doing a spastic kinda position, and you have to learn to move your fingers in a totally different way(i am talking about that little finger on the ctrl or shift button when you need it)..how the hell do you do that??,give me a controller anyday(maybe i have just posted a typical comment by a controller guy..but it still hurt my hand when i used to play Call Of Duty 1 online on the PC so many moons ago)

but still, things like this XFPS are cool gadgets

one day(or one year)when i have the time,i will try another race(as in race of character, not race around Kvatch or Cyrodil even)

I think Silent Hill V is the one where the town gets hijacked by Pyramid Head's half-brother who goes looking for a god.  William Shatner is lead developer.

i was wondering, after playing Silent Hill :Origins(if any of you have played this)...if The Butcher was related to Pyramid Head(LOL,maybe the half brother thing like you said)

here is Pyramid head(silent hill 2)

finished Silent Hill 1 now,5 and a half hours....i was following a guide for most of the part and i got 197/204 items, not too shabby,LOL

got the good+ ending, but checked on youtube for the other 6(the sixth one being just a blooper real you get at the end of all the endings)

from what i hear SH:Origins,SH 1 and SH 3,all follow the story about the cult Alessa and Dahlia Gillespie..whereas silent hill 2 and 4 focus more on the wierdness of the town...so i am wondering what will be the main focus in Homecoming

i am about 2 hrs in on silent hill 1,just about to enter the otherside of the school...apart from the graphics really looking old,it still plays pretty damn well

and although i am looking forward to Homecoming,i have heard its a different team working on this one and they have made it more action orientated,i hope we havent got another Alone in the Dark(pre PS3/360 patch)on our hands
13376  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Silent Hill Homecoming on: August 25, 2008, 03:31:01 AM
ok,as said(in another thread) i have started the Silent Hills after getting SH1 working again(somehow)..started Origins yesterday and have just finished it(7hr 20min)...good game, some puzzles were easy some were 'puzzling',i had to look on the net about 3 or 4 times,i played it on the PS2 and at times it can get very dark if you dont use your torch(if you use your torch the monsters home in on you)

the end connection to SH1 was dissapointing(a spoken line or two)

prolly start SH1 tomorrow...and i know i will be looking on the net for the Piano puzzle(last time i played this was when it was first released)

as much as i have been looking forward to this and wowing over past screenshots, the video has put me off a little..think its the button presses,BUT i did enjoy Indigo Prophecy Fahrenheit...so i am guessing i will still enjoy this

the fact is,not matter how good it looks, you miss all the eye candy by concentrating on the buttons that appear on the screen...Fahrenheit pissed me off because i couldnt really see the awesome rooftop fight near the end of that, because i was just making sure i wasnt gonna fook up

that part bugged me as well, look like i was in Vegas or Paris, with everything flashing

on one playthrough-where the Tie Fighters were flying past, and you can bend that metal to smash into them,i decided to experiment a bit,i picked up a Rebel who was firing at me with my force powers...and suspended him in the air in the path of an oncoming Tiefighter.....BANG!!!.NOW THATS HOW YOU KILL SOMEONE!!..LOL

played the PS3 version, didnt notice that much difference,it may well be a little smoother though,i didnt notice that stutter after using your lightsabre or force powers that i noticed on the 360...i did feel a little awkward with the controlls, but i did find out how to throw my lightsabre while using the sixaxis(press and hold R2 then press square)

i played on the second difficulty level(like i did on the 360)and for some reason it looked like i had bigger health and force power bars.
other than that i couldn't see any other difference(to my eyes and ears anyway)...when you select the game from your PS3 folder (on the XMB screen)the screen changes to a star wars screen and you get the little thumbnail movie ..whether thats the whole 450extra MB there i dunno

oh,and i couldnt figure out how to select The Hoff or Bea Arthur as a main character,Larry the Cable guy was selectable straight from the start though icon_wink

There have been enough games that got mediocre reviews - but I played night and day for months (Morrowind, I'm looking at you!) - that I'll definitely consider this one.

Coupla questions first though:

Does it have a save-anywhere system?
Can you invert the camera?
Does it have difficulty levels?

OH, and for me and Purge - can you Run and Gun?   icon_biggrin

Myto, try out the demo on xbox live...i liked the demo, but it maybe some time before i can get the game
13390  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [XBL/PSN]Star Wars :The Force Unleashed demo Impressions on: August 21, 2008, 06:22:08 PM
download took about 45 minutes which isnt bad

demo took about 10-20 minutes at the most(as i was messing about with my powers a lot)

i liked the demo, looks like its gonna be a really good game

but a few concerns

1)..am i gonna get bored?...see,i was using my force powers here, there and everywhere and even ran up to some stormtroopers to cut them down, but i am wondering will it get too repeditive?,pushing this, pushing that..hopefully not, hopefully they can make some good use ofyour powers by having some nice puzzles here and there(and i mean more than using it to slide a lock open on a door)

2)..why does it have to show a blue box on EVERYTHING that can be used with the Force, why they cant just leave it as it is and let me,myself find out whether i can use it with the force,or maybe have those blue boxes show when i am actually pressing RT ...just looked a bit silly, everything flashing, with what you could use

I love silent hill games,

i bought silent hill origins a month or two ago,but want to wait until i have the first game again(c'mon PSN put it up there)

then i am gonna replay all of them...i will buy this one,but i wont play it until i have played the others again..i have SH3 as well, and havent played that yet

silent hill 1,2 and 4 are the ones i have finished(er,and played)

Why wait to play origins? It takes place before part one so technically if you played origins now, then waited for SH1 to be re-released you would still be playing them in order.

i know, but i want to play them together, like one after the other, like try and play all 6 in a week or two or something...i am hoping that SONY put the first game up on PSN,as my copy has stopped working(not sure why SONY are taking their time putting up great games on the PSN)

Quote
Said to be "optimized" for Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer series, the green controller is billed as a "a limited edition promotional item that is only available in Europe, Asia and Latin America while supplies last," the company told Eurogamer.

I remember you saying you're not a soccer/football fan now, MO, sorry!

thats crazy..its nearly as bad as Capcom saying they are not gonna release the Wii version of Resident Evil Zero/origins outside of Japan

does that mean i am gonna have to buy some crappy soccer game to get this controller?('cos i will)

and i am a soccer/football fan,but not in video games(see under my avatar )

EDIT:it may very well be ANOTHER controller

these pictures show the Green controller, but the D-pad is the same,so perhaps it is another controller altogether

I have the chatpad for the 360 and like the fact that it is below the controller because if it is going to pull down with its weight, I would rather it pull there.  Wonder how light this is and if I would notice it pulling from the top.

yeah i have the chatpad and think its pretty damn nifty(<<do you guys have that word?)

the weight i think will always be a problem for things like this, and it may even be totally different compared between the dualshock or the sixaxis, the sixaxis weighs next to nothing, the new dualshock i have never touched so dont know..but heard the rumble adds a lot of weight, which would be good for me,as the sixaxis feels like a Fisher Price toy

i wonder if it has a connection behind for your USB cable to attach,so you dont have to take it off to charge

also it looks like your index Fingers will have to 'wrap around' the 'chatpad' to get to the shoulder (R1,R2,L1,L2)button/triggers..it may still work for me,not sure,i can't see me needing to bring my index fingers away from that part of the pad

as for 8 directions,i dont really need 8 directions, but i do need 4 seperate directions, and not one big button for a D-Pad,i have been having a lot of trouble with my controllers recently(my Halo 3 RB doesnt work anymore..and the controller i spilt beer on 3-4 months ago..and then i washed it in the Bathroom sink has started to work again now,but i am worried it will die on me again)
