12881  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [XBOX]Shenmue II Question on: March 03, 2009, 02:33:02 PM
okay i am finally gonna try and get Shenmue II done, its the kind of game that has a big reputation with everybody..i have had it for the xbox for some time now but never played it(well not for more than 5 minutes anyway)

my question is about Shenmue I...with my copy of number II there is a DVD bundled with it called 'Shenmue the Movie' this the first game in film form,or is it some spin off film...the film is only on for just under 90minutes

this is the version i have, and the cut out part says 'Includes the feature length DVD 'Shenmue The Movie'

i was thinking i would have to shell out for a SEGA Dreamcast and the Shenmue game(which i am not in the best posistion to do right now)...but if that DVD is the first game, then i needn't bother, and i can just watch that, but with it being 90 minutes i thought it must be a spin off or something

Sold my opened, but never played gimped PS3 copy of the game for $32 on eBay last night.

Thanks Bethesda *thumbs up*

I can't interpret this post.  You sold for a loss without ever playing it?

i played the 360 version before any of the DLC was available..and it was far from Gimped(the 360 version being the same when not including the DLC) game of 2008(or very near)

if it weren't for Metal Gear Solid 4,(and if i had the PS3 version of Fallout 3)it would most probably be the best game on the PS3
12883  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Xbox 360 or Not? on: March 03, 2009, 02:07:26 PM
i have installed all the games i play pretty much everyday(at the moment)

Mass Effect

which didnt improve anything as far as i can see,but saves the disc drive going forever

and yeah if i have a scratched disc, its somewhat of a relief when it finished installing,as i know i shouldnt have any problems with that scratch

i loved the demo of this..and its on my list to buy

got to number 2 in the sales charts behind KZ2(if anyone really cares about any of that)

the cutscenes on the demo were some of the best i have seen, even trumping what Square Enix can come up with(i love me some cutscenes)

A serious question for people complaining about 360 noise:

How big is the room you play your 360 in?  And how loud do you have your sound?  Maybe I just got lucky with my console.

i have a launch machine and i thought i had been lucky with the noise as it is only noticable if i have the sound down on my TV,and then its nothing major...for 3 or so years i have heard people moan about the noise and thought they were just being picky,LOL

and yeah stick Uno on the XBLA list
12886  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Xbox 360 or Not? on: March 02, 2009, 03:02:14 AM
if you havent played Mass Effect on the PC then thats another reason to get a 360,its just been released on Platinum as well with the DLC included

i say Lost Odyssey and Infinite Undiscovery...and Oblivion is something spectacular as well(again,if you havent played it on PC)
fable II was lacking somewhat

arcadey> you cant go wrong with PGR4,sim> Forza 2

Shooting-1st person
COD4..perhaps 5,Battlefield:Bad Company,Bioshock

Shooting- 3rd person
i dont want to sound like a broken record, but i thought GOW2 was much better than the first
and Dead Space

Super Streetfighter 2 Turbo HD Remix
Banjo Kazooie
Portal:Still Alive

if you like that kinda thing

So is this game worth the $25?  I know it takes 1600 points, but they don't sell it in that exact amount unfortunately

i think so,i had a lot of fun doing the missions and side stuff(that i still havent finished)....i got 12 hrs out of it..the only annoyance was the lack of save points/safe houses

well about 6 months ago,MS announced they were 'steamlining'(deleteing) the arcade games on XBOX live marketplace that weren't doing well...i am guessing this fell into that catagory...strange really, they get rid of those games...and then add 5000+ community games

damn, some of the missions get tough pretty quick.  so far, i have had to redo 3 of them more than once.  the school bus was a pita during the escape as you get so much heat on you from the start.  i got lucky though and lost a bunch of them when the got out to take pot shots at me.

is that the one where you have to steal the bus from the actual Police Station yard?...i found as soon as i or my car went through the barrier they started to shoot at instead i stole the police car that was parked outside, and they didnt start to shoot at me until i got outside the police car, which was when i parked it right next to the bus,and when you attempt to get on the bus,you get the cut scene...the getaway however like you say was painful, very painful...damn bus wasnt drivable at all,i fluked that mission...and i drove pretty slow, you had to or you would tip over

if you look under 'videos' there are a bunch more that are currently listed as classified.  I was kind of curious how they'd handle the sequel, especially with Shepard being pretty powerful at the end.  maybe it's their way of nerfing Shepard- he/she dies and is brought back using Prothean or Reaper tech but without all the abilities he/she had.

didnt someone say on the new 2 disc Platinum mass effect on one of the doc's that you will be able to transfer your character across from ME1 to ME2?

NOW you tell me. I was wondering why they weren't falling off their bikes.

yeah i had to find out from forums..i asked the person if it was in the tutorial and i missed it,he said it wasnt and someone else on told him..wierd

i finished the story today, enjoyed it all a lot

one thing though i didnt like was saving, one place on the one island,so i always had to go back all the way to the clubhouse to save my game..and when you did get another crib it was about 2 blocks away from the clubhouse

and please stop advertising Xbox live and how to get into an instant game in the top corner!!!

and i kinda wish that it didnt play like a seperate game, loading up two different games for both Niko and some places are available in Niko's LC and some are available in Johnny's LC

there is still a lot i havent done(i have 66%)..races(8/12),i havent killed any seagulls(if i really want to get into that) and have yet to have a gang war and have only stolen one bike for Angus,so still plenty to do i guess...oh and as the credits rolled(which were interesting to watch) said that Frankie Boyle was the new comedian at split sides,so i will have to try and catch his show..i enjoyed Ricky Gervais and Katt Williams...and Frankie Boyle is always funny

so yeah.....bring on the next DLC about Luis

Does the new music show up in the original game as well?

The only thing I didn't get a good feel for is the riding in the gang stuff, when you're following Billy.  When you're in position, a big Lost badge decal appears on the road, and apparently you stay inside it to heal up and increase your rep with your guys.  But it's not clear where you're supposed to be exactly, and it seems to disappear after you've been inside it for a couple seconds.

thats to get a conversation going with the bikers, you get it to dissappear when you have been in the badge long enough to qualify for a new conversation to get going..i quite liked that, but i am a few more hours in now(5 hrs play time 20%)and i haven't had that option to ride with the others and in The Lost badge for a while now,so if you dont like it,dont worry

i got my 'Got Good Wood' achievement by knocking 69 racers off their bikes during the races with the Baseball Bat..i am enjoying the races a great deal, they are really fun,and its funny seeing that they can be just as bad as you going round corners etc

started to collect bikes for one guy, like the car mission on the main game

but i still havent see a seagulll yet, apparently there are 50

and i just had the 'full frontal' mission.. icon_smile,i was laughing by the end of the cutscene..Rockstar Cutscenes whatever they contain are always done well

According to a NY Times article, the 360 exclusivity is expected to end at some time and the DLC will be available for both PC and PS3, but there is no announced time frame. Certainly this is part of the Microsoft deal, to keep PC and PS3 in the dark for awhile, more pressure to get that 360.

hmm,the way i heard it was Rockstar had no intention of making any DLC,and Microsoft gave them 50 million to think otherwise..i would expect it to eventually appear on Games for Windows, but not PS3.. the 50 million wasnt actually for exclusiveness..but more funding the DLC altogether...the DLC is also an experiment for Rockstar to see how popular it can be due to it being download only

sorry i only make multiple saves for games like Oblivion or Morrowind..i honestly dont think i have any older saves(but i will check just incase)

Given all the saves corruption people were experiencing, you're one lucky dog. I usually have like 20-50 saves on my drive for RPGs. If there are limits on slots, I always fill them all.

i have never had a game save corruption on any game any system,LOL...My Morrowind disc has jiggered up the other night so hopefully that hasnt corrupted that game save when i get back to it,cos it always screwed up jst a few minutes after i loaded all the time...hopefully its the disc(its second hand and looks like the dog has digested it)

as for Mass Effect..yup,i only had one save and one autosave
so i started a new game and this time i used the character when i finished the game so it would start from level 50,and when i saved in that game i had loads of saves(they just didnt show when i was on the other game)..anyway,i did all the Citadel again and then did the DLC...not bad,i think i did all there was,

about Mass Effect,it seems that Mass Effect 2 you will carry your ME character details across

Mass Effect 2 details

Mass Effect's two-disc Platinum Hits edition includes a nifty video documentary called "The Future of Mass Effect," which talks about downloadable content and what we can expect from the sequel.

The new DLC pack in development will add combat-oriented areas that the devs are comparing to "Fight Club" and Arena. More interestingly, though, the documentary mentions that BioWare wants the DLC to tie into Mass Effect 2. Does that mean we get to carry over our character from Mass Effect to Mass Effect 2?

"Any saved game that you make from Mass Effect 1 you should be able to carry that same character into to Mass Effect 2," says the video at about 1:45. "You'll be able to take that save game and create a character in Mass Effect 2."

I wonder what he means by "should," and what he means by "create a character" if indeed you're carrying over a character that already exists. Maybe you get to make your character's kid to continue the experience?

i really think they could of come up with something better than a Arena Fight Club DLC ..and there is a vid in the link from Kotaku

Downloaded it already this morning  thumbsup

Logged on XBL at 0500 EST, download was already available (damn, could I have started it a half hour earlier before I took my shower?). Started the DL of 1.78 GB and was going to let it run while I went to work, but I noticed that it was at 1%... 2%... 3%... while I watched. Quick calculation determined it would be finished in 35 minutes so I grabbed a book and started reading.

Download did take just about 35 minutes. Fired it up. First of all, XBL wants you to install an update, but that's no big surprise. Started GTA4 again and before any loading screens up pops the question, you have download TL&D, do you want to play it now? Oh, yes please. Sit through loading screens, just like GTA4 except new images, same amount of time, meaning less than ten seconds.

Next up was opening credits cutscene. Watched this. Characters introduced while riding their choppers. Next was cut scene of... well, I won't give it away. Then you drive your cycle for a few blocks, then another cut scene, then you leave on a mission... at this point (15 minutes in) I had to leave for work, so I didn't really get to do any missions, but assuming I can bypass the cutscenes I'm all set for this afternoon.

yeah i downloaded at about 9.30am GMT(it still wasnt on our marketplace but the link to the marketplace was up)

i watched Terminator(the first one)..and by the time that had finished, the download had finished(took about the same time as the film,100minutes)

i like it how,it isnt just one lot of missions, there are different people,to go to,your choice like the full game(which another full game this feels like) house is pretty cool, although i am not sure the usefulness of the memorial said in the tutorial 'to use it'

the memorial wall shows all the people who die during missions, not that i have spoiled anything it depends on how good you are which decides if anyone goes on the wall...if you have a really bad mission,i suppose lots of your gang could end up on the wall(think of them as Banther fodder, one guy in your gang goes down they get replaced by another member from the clubhouse) i am thinking its non essential characters who go up on the wall

i was doing the first mission riding with my gang,i was out in front i try and make the others fall by driving like a dick and only just missing cars etc...i look behind me to see how they do and it is pretty funny seeing them either drive too fast for a corner or drive into cars they can't avoid...however they never come off their bikes

For $20 (1,600 MSP), L&D offers a full-fledged campaign, new locations, new mini-games (arm wrestling!), refined gameplay mechanics, new vehicles, new weapons, a hefty new soundtrack, new DJs, new TV shows, new Internet sites, and new multiplayer. One thing's for certain: Rockstar isn't ****ing around with horse armor.

To access The Lost & Damned, boot up a copy of GTA IV and start a new game. You can now choose between GTA IV and L&D. Though both take place in Liberty City, the two are separate stories and separate game worlds, meaning you don't gain access to the new interiors in L&D if you're playing GTA IV. You can't take Niko into The Lost clubhouse to kill a bunch of bikers, sorry. Aside from the initial download, you won't need an Xbox Live connection to play L&D. Unlike some downloadable content, there's no online verification required. So if the 'net goes down, you can still take L&D for a spin

What's Unique About It?
Johnny's already established in Liberty City. He won't be building relationships with the burg's low-life. Johnny and The Lost already have reputations, they already have safehouses to squat in. And they already have enemies.

The Lost And Damned's most obvious changes are new bullet point additions like new weapons, new vehicles, new interiors, and new radio, internet and television content. Johnny has access to weaponry previously unavailable to Niko, including an automatic 9 MM pistol, a sawed off shotgun, an assault shotgun, a grenade launcher and pipe bombs. You'll get access to the fun-to-fire grenade launcher in the mission "Action/Reaction," in which Johnny does serious damage to his rival's clubhouse, thanks to a stream of grenades.

Rockstar reps pointed out that some of the game's new music and radio chatter will be tailored toThe Lost And Damnedexperience. That translates to new music for the game's rock, hardcore and metal radio stations and a little less so for the jazzier, more world beat stations. Think more "Ace of Spades" by Motörhead, less Dizzy Gillespie.

There are even new mini-games (arm wrestling!) and still unannounced multiplayer additions on top of the already revealed changes, neither of which we got a chance to play during our hands on time.

Less obvious additions help to differentiateThe Lost And Damnedfrom Niko's trip through Liberty City. Menus have a distinct, grungier look, with a new grittier film-grain effect giving Johnny's story a more appropriate visual styIe. Even his cell phone looks more bad ass. Rockstar has also added more weight to the expansion's motorcycles — all of them, not just the choppers — to make riding a little easier on the player.

We grabbed the controls at this stage and set about walking Johnny around to see how different a character he was to Niko. He certainly acted differently onscreen, exhibiting a unique set of mannerisms from what we were used to with Niko. The first mission we took on was called Action/Reaction, in which Billy ordered the Lost to attack the Angels' clubhouse in retaliation for the supposed murder of a young Lost member (fans of GTAIV, however, will remember that it was actually Niko who capped that biker in the No Love Lost mission). Johnny starts the mission off with a grenade launcher, pegging an explosive through the Angels' clubhouse window to start the pain. Plenty of Angels then stream out of the building, starting a large firefight with the five or so members of the Lost who are acting as backup. After the opposition is cleaned up outside, Billy and Johnny make their way into the clubhouse to finish off the remaining Angels. In the basement, Billy orders another Lost to take the Angels' stash of heroin, prompting Johnny to suspect that revenge was never Billy's motive for the attack.

also heard that this is 2gig in size,so if true when it comes at 8am GMT/3am EST,set it to download and then go back to bed nod crybaby

Ah, crap, how am I going to escape the cops without my lawyer girlfriend? smile

If they got rid of the friendships then I can deal with the cops. Having to keep up the friendships made parts of the game a chore, and was one of the only bad things in the game.

Was there any friendship you had to keep up?  I just stopped answering my phone altogether when I wasn't on a mission and I feel like nothing bad happened.

well,i kept them all happy until i got them all 100%,got the achievement and then pretty much never spoke to them again...not sure if you have to keep them like over 75% so you can do their missions
