I enjoyed it as well, though I thought Levine was a bit arrogant. Hopefully he'll be cooler in the future.

I was turned off by Beverly, especially when she sang Joplin. It was way too cliche for me. I don't see her lasting too long.

Ron is great. Did you know he is

Spoiler for Hiden:
ONLY 42?? I had no idea!

I also love Donna. I'm trying to find a clip of when she rage tackles Leslie Knope in last season's hunting trip... but I can't find it. frown

YES! I watched this 20 times when it first aired!

You shot my Mercedes??

I was going to trade in a handful of games to try to reduce the buy in price.

Then I remembered that "trade-in" means "take it in the corn hole" and decided that I'll just wait for the price drop instead.

Or, if someone wants to "gift" it to me, that might be cool too. smile icon_wink

No, but WRT King of Plagues, what a brutal first chapter! Yow.
125  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Re: Books Read in 2011 on: April 22, 2011, 05:03:30 AM
Finished The Fifth Witness by Michael Connelly today. I really enjoyed it and like the direction he's taking the Haller books.

Next up,  The King of Plagues by Maberry.
126  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Question for the musician's in the forum on: April 19, 2011, 02:10:05 AM
Wait. You said musicians. Drummers are... different.

How do you know the stage is level?
The drummer drools from both sides of his mouth.

What do you call a drummer who gets dumped by his girlfriend?
Homeless.

What do you call a guy that hangs out with a bunch of musicians?
A drummer.

But seriously, I have no idea about drums. Just make sure that when you get the kit, get yourself some earplugs too. And thank me later. Good luck!

I've been reading "The Day After Tomorrow" by Alan Folsom for what feels like forever now. The book is pretty good but it's a big one and it tends to drag in places. Also there is like 160 chapters and each is only a few pages long.

I should finish it this week.

I read that about 100 years ago, it seems. I also remember enjoying it quite a bit. Thanks for the reminder, I'll have to look it up again.

lil and Pete, have you finished "The King of Plagues" yet?  I'm 90% finished with it and will finish it at lunch today.

I loved it.  More of the same, but I actually think I like this one a little better than the first two.

Not yet. Reading through Connelly's The Fifth Witness now and will do Maberry next!

There are people that have left this gig for better gigs. But that was before being told they were being let go.

Anyway, apparently they are cutting a bunch of people. So, people in the PacNW that want a gig at the Goog, COME ON DOWN!
130  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / [Job related] Here we go again. on: April 15, 2011, 04:04:55 PM
Just found out yesterday that my contract here will not be renewed. My last day of work will be 6.20.

When I asked why I wasn't being renewed, I was told that it was "management's decision."

I haven't rocked the boat, haven't been pulled into production meetings, have performed above average, have not missed any work. In other words, I don't think I have given them any reasons that might be performance related that would lead to a non-renewal.

Though this is an at-will job, where they can let me go/not renew at their leisure, I wonder what my rights are as to simply finding out why I'm not being renewed.

In 10 months of working here, not once have I been given any sort of review or evaluation of my performance. We have screens where I can see my scores, but there have never been any red flags or indicators that I should have been worried for my job.

The Museum of Flight, located south of Seattle, is worth visiting if you have an interest in aerospace history.   Definately worth the relatively low cost of entry.  The Experience Music Project, located near the Space Needle is also something you might be interested since it covers music and scifi.  A more expensive proposition, though.  And depending on when you come, a lot of people like Bumbershoot, which is a music festival that run on Labor Day weekend.

Speaking of the MoF, we were there today. Love that place.

My favorite has to be the pickups in Alaska.

Agreed. They came into their own in Alaska, and then they ruined it all with their horrible stage banter on the recap show. But a decent start to the season.

Having done the vocalist audition thing many moons ago, I can only say, good luck.

And keep a journal. Please, please, keep a journal.

I, as well, have some rhythm tracks with scratch guitar. I'm pretty happy with how they turned out. Up next will be actual guitar and vocals in April.

Just finished Prince of Thieves by Chuck Hogan. Loved this book. Haven't seen The Town yet, but saw this book at B&N a few weekends ago and picked it up. Had a hard time following all the characters at first, but the more I read it, the more I got into it.

I love the deep Boston setting of this book, much like the Lehane novels. Can't get enough of Boston, I suppose.

Hey Pete R.: Jon Maberry's next Joe Ledger book is out in a week or so. And I saw a new non-Pendergast Lincoln/Child collaboration at Target the other day.

So many books!

He was great in 127 Hours.  Really great.

I like him...

I actually thought the hosting wasn't bad at all.

I'm with you about the hosting. I thought AH did well being the natural, and JF was a little too wooden. Even with that, I thought they were funny and I really enjoyed the little mash-up at the beginning.

WRT the Kirk Russell thing, I just thought it was uncomfortable. Clearly he's with it, but his speaking led to a lot of what I thought were forced smiles/laughs in the audience as if we couldn't understand him on TV, he was probably impossible to understand in an auditorium.

I assume by Kirk Russell, you meant Kirk Douglas and not Kurt Russell (or Russell Brand).

Keep in mind the man had a stroke and is almost 100, so far as his speech goes.

I didn't get polite smiling at all, especially with his "You know..." bit.

Oops, my bad. Douglas was what I meant. And I figured he'd had a stroke or something. Some of it was funny, but speaking for myself, it was hard for me to understand him.

This year is my learning and experimentation year, next year I plan on trying to keep up with a project 365

Just start! I didn't decide to do my P365 2010 until New Year's Eve 2009, and even then it was a last minute, spur of the moment thing. And I learned so much about photography just from doing it.

Take the plunge!
