A direct sequel to Aliens..!

Quote
Neill Blomkamp's Aliens film — which we've been speculating on since it was announced last week — is going to be a direct sequel to 1986's Aliens. In an interview with Sky Movies (promoting the soon-to-be-released Chappie), Blomkamp said he wants his upcoming film to feel like the "genetic sibling" to James Cameron's classic. "So, it's Alien, Aliens, this movie," he said, referring to his ideal canonic timeline.

Alien franchise star Sigourney Weaver added "I would love to take Ripley from orbiting around in space and give a proper finish to what was such an excellent story.

I was thinking the new Wolfenstein.  Shouldn't be $60 anymore, even on consoles it's constantly on sale.

No, I don't think so, but SO didn't have near the amount of hype as The Order, and it also doesn't have a single controversial aspect that people can latch on to, such as length/unskippable cutscenes/QTEs, etc. (It's also a great game, IMHO smile ). A fairly analogous example on the xbone side would be Ryse, although even then I don't recall it being specifically targeted by Playstation fans.

Sorry didn't mean to compare the two games, it was the first exclusive that popped in my head.  I should have gone with Ryse.

I've seen a 95 and a 20.  Not sure I've ever seen that range before.  I wonder if the scores are tainted by the gamer geek length news?

There's no way for us to know. We learn nothing from those two scores without reading the review, and even then the scores might not make sense.

That's even more strange as some reviews heap praise on the story and characters, even if they scored the game low, while other reviews say the story sucks and was boring.

Quote from: Blackjack on February 19, 2015, 03:56:48 AM

While I'm guardedly excited, I have to be a realist -- I'm one of those people who thought Prometheus was largely a rolling turd with one great performance (Fassbender) and a complete waste of Charlize Theron as a one-note screeching character (she's capable of great work) and pretty much all characters acting stupidly at all times in annoying fashion. And I thought Elysium was basically too polished a "big studio production" and a step down from District 9. Sometimes the more money you throw at sci-fi movies, the less movie you get. You could ask my older brother though as he likes both films.

So I'm not necessarily sure that an Aliens sequel with Blomkamp directing and Ridley Scott producing is a slam dunk home run.

If 20th Century Fox gets the heck out of the way and (and Ridley Scott for that matter) lets Blomkamp do what he wants to do; if Weaver and Michael Biehn see enough promise in a screenplay to sign up for it; if they just pretend the movies after Aliens didn't happen and let Blomkamp pick up that story thread. Then I'll be truly excited.  icon_smile

I'll admit I have no clue what story he'll concoct to explain Weaver's (65) and Biehn's (58) aging given the whole space sleep thing. Yes they're doing wonders with CGI-izing older actors to look like their young selves but I don't think they've reached the point of pulling that off for a whole movie smoothly (i.e., Young Jeff Bridges looking creepy in Tron Legacy for example).

That concept stuff may not be what they end up doing though.  Might have just been something for him to get his juices going.

Maybe this was greenlit due to the massive drooling over his concept art.

20th Century Fox has closed a deal with director Neill Blomkamp to develop a new “Alien” movie, sources confirm.

The untitled sci-fi project is separate from “Prometheus 2,” which Fox is still making with Ridley Scott.

This is definitely one of those games that I'm interested in but is falling under the "no preorders for new ip" rule.

Did you pre-order The Last of Us?!

That was last gen, before all this ridiculousness starting happening. And anything naughty dog makes would certainly get an exemption.

Ok I spit out my drink for nothing then!

My backlog is so big and full of solid games I just see no reason to jump in without reviews these days. I'm getting eager to pick up Dying Light, but even that has had a bunch of patches already. I hope 1886 is great (Ready at Dawn did great work on the PSP), but I don't want to be the guinea pig. I'll save that for Tomb Raider, Batman, Ratchet and Clank and Uncharted.

Dying light is awesome btw

Well I think the first Hulk, Daredevil and ghost rider movies were made outside of Marvel studios and they now control them.  Second Hulk was marvel studios.  I thought it was ok, but I think it's not well liked.

IMDB is pretty sure that point is focal:

That said, I never really much liked the story, and though I enjoy their movies, I can recall Marvels' failures too. Xmen Origins: Wolverine or X-men 3, perhaps?

Civil War is story about Cap. I'd rather see a combined cast for Secret Wars (unlikely, methinks) or the upcoming Infinity Gauntlet/Infinity War (the latter less so).

Xmen is not controlled by Marvel studios, it's Fox.

I do hope the stand-alone movie is not yet another retelling of the origin story.  How many different ways can you get bit by a radioactive spider?!?

I'm pretty sure that's the main reason they got him was for the civil war*
