I picked this up for some reason and got to play for several hours yesterday.

I got to the point of the first forced night mission and after first running away from the virals I started creeping veeeery slowly to avoid all the others and try to get back to the tower.  After creeping slowly (and running one more time) for a long time, somehow a viral just spotted me out of nowhere as I was crouching behind a car.  Of course a whole bunch of them started chasing me and then I died.  And it spawned me back before I got the last package.  Fuck that.

This game can go to hell if they really want to introduce players to their night mechanic with a forced night mission (after a terrible cutscene where my character does stupid things for clearly terrible people) that is going to take a long time and end in death and resets.  I'm fine with failing on my own terms, but being forced to fail and lose time is not my idea of fun.

my first night mission lasted about 30-45 seconds.  Just run like a little bitch to the tower doing your best to avoid any groups of bad guys and use your survivor sense to avoid the powerful ones completely.  Having troubles?  Do it coop.  Nothign forced you to fail

Hmm, I don't think it's even possible to run back to the tower in 30 seconds from the second drop location even if you run directly at the zombies.  I ran away from them which led me to the beach and taking a left, having to go a long way around the cliffs with lots of crawling and waiting.

People tell me that using the UV flashlight on the volatiles (or virals?) will actually stun them.  It would be really nice if the game explained that.  I tried using that thing on some normal zombies and nothing seemed to happen so I assumed it was a way to see at night without being spotted.

As I snuck around at night the game just keep telling me to use my flashlight in the dark, which seems really stupid because it will just get me spotted.  Even though the volatiles seem to be able to see perfectly in the dark and spot you even when you're doing nothing.   disgust

iirc when you get the UV light, it tells you it stuns them.  You actually have to equip it and press R2 to get it to go off, the light turns blue.  I didn't realize that at first.

Oddly, the flashlight beam does NOT trigger zombies at night.

You can see the cone of vision for the volatiles on your mini-map.  Even if you are standing still (provided on level ground) and you are in their cone of vision, they will spot you.

Quick question for you guys.  If I join PS+ this month do I qualify for these free games even if I sign up on the last day of the month?  Or do you have to have been a Plus member for sometime?

Thanks!

Yep, you can join PS+ any time during the month and get the free games.  You just need to subscribe and "buy" the current free set before the current games go away and are replaced with a new batch.

It's kind of dumb that you have to manually get the games or it doesn't count, but that's how the system works.  I'm sure it saves them tons of money in the long run.

Weren't they going to add a kind of "add to library" feature to make that process easier?

I thought so too, but haven't seen it.

So a couple times I have gone into a game or had someone join my game and just boost my character like crazy.  They will start a rift trial and own everything so we all get a rift 100 stone and then they just PLOW through the rift, so fast I can't even keep up with them.  I literally would gain a paragon level every 2 seconds and after going through this a couple times I have 4 BILLION gold.  They have 25 million + DPS.  This is on PS4.  How are people able to get this high of DPS?  I saw a guy yesterday with a yellow weapon that had 24 million DPS!  My DH is geared pretty good and I still only have 1.5 million DPS and I can't see how to increase it anymore.  What are people doing to get this much DPS??

This thread will be used for off season and the start of this year's football season

Well, we're all on even playing ground now.  As far as my niners are concerned, they rather be bad to mediocre instead of being successful and having to deal with an ultra competitive coach.  There's been reports that ownership told Harbaugh he wouldn't be back next year after the loss to Seattle in December.   So much for "mutal agreement"  Just tells you that Harbaugh was pretty classy when it came to his fate.  He could have easily fought the whole time, make them fire him, take the $5 million he was owed and then get paid again by Michigan.  Just shows you how stupid York is.

As far as the rest of football goes, there needs to be some major changes on player conduct and officiating.  Both were huge distractions and both need to be addressed.

What does your team need to do this offseason?

49ers need to go back to the power run game.  Don't know if that's going to be possible if Gore leaves.  Kap needs to improve with getting the play off in time, reading defenses, and making better decisions.

49ers need to go back in time and not fire Harbaugh and instead just fire Roman.

I watched the post game interview with Malcolm Butler from Sal Palantonio on ESPN and it was 180 degree difference from the Sherman "I'm the best corner in the game" after the NFCCG against SF.  Palantonio was trying to goad him into saying something crazy and he was just humble and overwhelmed.  I can't think of a better way for Seattle to lose the game.  So many good memes of Sherman's boasting on the sidelines when they were up by 10.

Are they like that if you go back to the Slums?  Perhaps location has something to do with it.

That's where I thought I first noticed it.  The streets right outside of the tower had more aggressive zombies and I just chalked it up to leveling them leveling a bit with me.  As if the dev really had them slow and lumbering at first so you wouldn't get overwhelmed and as your power grew they became a little more competent.  It's not like they are completely upgraded, but the regular biters are just more aggressive and faster it seems.

None of this takes away from the game, just an observation.  I am really enjoying it and glad I did not wait for reviews instead of just jumping in.  I think I need to upgrade my weapons more as it seems you find a lot of parts and items to work with.  The only problem is I use parkour so much I don't go through the weapons that I do find.

I've noticed that as I gain more abilities, the zombies get stronger and faster too and not just at night.  Makes running around not as easy going as when you start.

Well that seems to defeat the whole point of getting stronger and faster, doesn't it?   retard

I'm not sure that is the case. Regular zombie is still a regular slow zombie. However as your progress through the story and go to different locations, different zombie types start to show up that are much harder to deal with.

Seems to me that as I am level 8 in each skill tree, even the regular zombies move faster and are more aggressive and numerous.  Previously they would just lumber around and maybe one would move at me quickly.  As for the specials, they do seem to show up more frequently too.

Does this game have that great optional analog control scheme from Dead Island where you could control how you swing your weapons and target and break limbs on the zombies?

Sadly, no.  they had to dump that in favor of the free-running

I did get a perk that allows you to slide kick and break zombie legs though.

How deep is the crafting/base building/scavenging? I have a couple of hours put into State of Decay, and even though this one is obviously different in its presentation, I'm hoping that the aforementioned aspects are at least somewhat prominent and not just window dressing to disguise the parkour/combat parts. I'm also hoping for my traditional Valentine's Steam card, so that I may actually get this one, as I have sworn not to buy a game with my own money this year.

I am not sure if there is base building.  There are safe zones you clear of zombies and then they give you spots across the map where you can rest without being attacked.

Crafting requires you to find blueprints.  So far I have only found blueprints to add effects to weapons (fire/electricity, etc).  Weapons have a set durability and after some time will break.  They have a fixed amount of times you can repair them before they are gone for good.  There are perks that allow your weapons to lose durability much slower and even not use up "repair charges" when you repair them.  I've played about 7 hours, mostly running around and doing a few side quests.  Not sure if there are schematics to actually build weapons.  I've been finding a ton throughout the game world.  So much so I was banking them at first and now I just break them down for parts.

If you have ever watched a zombie show (say, walking dead) and wished you could run and climb around the abandoned town and loot things, bash zombies, and get into general mayhem, then this might be the game for you.  Note that you start off with few skills and crap weapons and as you go on they get better and you get more adept at dealing the zombies.  After a few hours they are still the shuffling variety, but I have seen some different kinds (no more details) to know what's coming.  One thing that is hokey is the little caches you find all over (even a toolbox) seem to repopulate when you launch the game again.  Probably makes sense, but it just caught my attention.

Anyone know if the entire campaign can be played co op, or is it like Unity with only special missions available?

It looks like after you get through the tutorial you can play coop, but I'm not sure if you just run around or if you go through the story missions.  The story has a lot of cutscenes so far, so not sure how that would work.

The game seems like it's Dead Island, but you are VERY upwardly mobile.  You can climb on pretty much everything and the terrain is setup so that you will do so.  The game scratches my apocalyptic itch pretty good and in the first couple hours at least, you can run circles around the zombies so it makes exploring pretty cool.  I'm sure they will get more adept at eating my neck soon.  So far I have been scrounging for mats, you can upgrade items and build items.  Pretty standard stuff.  I thought the dialogue and fetch missions in Dead Island were a little B-movie and that seems to be the case here.  The visuals are pretty good though and the world seems massive.

I'm still not saying they should bring back "Immune to All/Reflect All Damage" bosses.  icon_razz

Storytelling-wise, I dig the one "Follower's Event" I've experienced, which helped flesh out that Follower's story:

Templar
I enjoy all the Events in the game so much, I kind of wonder if there's a Mode there.

Just stitch together endless, randomizing events areas, with a "break room" in between.  icon_smile Maybe Adventure Mode feels like that?

Bandwagon? Hate Seattle fans?

Don't paint with such a broad brush, guys. I've been on this bandwagon since 1984. I watched this game from home today and even I was doubting it after Russell's 4th pick. Even after winning the SB last year, 28 years or so of SOS (Same Old Seahawks) is hard to shake. The Seahawks have been an excellent team for 3 years now and every team has a bad game now and then. Even after being "exposed," I was ready to call it a season.

But wait, there's more!

Freakin' Russell Wilson and his ability to make nothing into something. Jermaine Kearse going 0/4 with 2 INTs directly off his hands, then catching the 35 yd walk-off TD. And Marshawn Lynch running for 157? I don't think we were "exposed." We played to win. GB played not to lose.

2 more weeks. Bring on Brady.

Just because you were a fan (and I believe you since you live in the area) doesn't mean most of your fanbase were fans prior to 2012.  Heck it's widely been known that prior to your recent success, you could see more visiting team jerseys than home team.  I'm sorry, but you have alot of people who are on the bandwagon.  That doesn't take anyway from you or other true fans.

I mean to be clear, Levi's Stadium is going to be just like that within the next five years.

Probably by next year

Is there any way to add a socket to an unsocketed item?  I thought there was, but can't find it anywhere...maybe I'm thinking of another game.

Also, outside of the novelty of mowing through teddy bears and unicorns (which wore kinda thin after the 6th time), is there any real benefit to doing the Rainbow portals?  Neither the loot or XP seems any better than what you get in standard rifts or bounties, but perhaps there's some sort of benefit (i.e. rare drop) that I'm not seeing.

Had a strange Rift occurrence last night.  I used the key to open the rift portal in town, hit X to enter it...and nothing happened.  The screen blinks black like it's starting to load the rift, but it doesn't allow me to enter it.  I shut the game off soon after, and am hoping the same broken rift isn't still open when I fire it up tonight.

You can enchant an item to get a socket.  On PS4, you go to the enchantress and you can view an item and for each attribute, you can press square to see the possible enchanting combinations.  If that particular one has a socket option, then it's one of the 3 choices you can get when enchanting.

I don't think there's anything about the rainbow portals other than the novelty.

Each time you launch a game it's a new world instance.  Nothing should be the same aside from the towns and names of places.  All the in game world stuff is generated uniquely.
