Does any company want to sell themselves to hardcore gamers?  Isn't that like 5% of the people who buy games?

12530  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / System Discussion: Nintendo Revolution on: May 17, 2005, 03:53:54 PM
Yeah if the Cube can pump out RE4 and that new Zelda graphics, then I'm not worried about 2-3 times better than that.

12532  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / So where do you stand right now? on: May 17, 2005, 05:30:10 AM
I am all about the Xbox 360 right now.  PS3 really has done nothing for me.  I am a habitual Nintendo user though, so I am waiting to see what Nintendo has to say about this all!
12533  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / System Discussion: Playstation 3 on: May 16, 2005, 11:46:29 PM
Doesn't look like you can stack things on top of it, though.
12534  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Blizzard acquires Swinging Ape on: May 16, 2005, 11:44:45 PM
I think he means that Blizz can make their own decisions about projects, etc.  Is that right?  I don't see VU trying to tell them how to do things, considering their track record.

Nintendo, the world leader in video game innovation, stated loud and clear that they are not to be overlooked in the next generation home console race with the revelation of several unique features of the company's next console system, code name Revolution, to key media outlets. According to the early information, Revolution will combine powerful technology and gaming-focused features in Nintendo's smallest home game console yet.

In its final form, Revolution will be about the thickness of three standard DVD cases and only slightly longer. The versatile Revolution will play either horizontally or vertically, allowing the user total flexibility in setting up a gaming session wherever they have a television.

Thanks to Nintendo's hardware development partners IBM and ATI, the small system will be packed with power that will enable it to wow players with its graphics. Nintendo's legions of loyal fans will be happy to learn that Revolution will be backward compatible, playing both Nintendo GameCube 3-inch disks along with its own standard, double-layered DVD disks in the same self-loading media drive.

In the next generation, the addition of the Internet will be important to all consoles and particularly important to Nintendo. Revolution will be wireless Internet ready out of the box.

There's much more to Revolution that will be revealed over the coming months, but the combination of its compact size, wireless Internet, backward compatibility, quick start-up time and quiet, low-power operation add up to the start of a great game system. Get ready for the Nintendo Revolution in 2006!

Say, can you play the 1 on 1 dueling portion at anytime or do you have to unlock it by playing through the regular game?

I'm pretty sure it's an unlockable.  You start to unlock stuff really quickly though.

Played a little more and I am enjoying it more.  The first two levels are really not as fun as the ones that are following.  You can tell they are just to get you used to the game.  I stink at combat, but I can rattle off enough moves to take people down.  There are a TON of moves at your desposal and it really showcases how a Jedi can fight.  You are spinning and twirling and cutting crap to pieces.  Another neat thing is a lot of the environment can be cut up too.  Barriers break, pipes on the wall, that sort of thing.  It's a neat addition.  I'm about 2.5 hours in now and cleared about 5 levels.  I think there's 16 total, so I am not worried about time.  I can also see how I would want to go back and find the rest of the stuff that I missed.  Also after I see the movie, I know I will want to go back and fight through the levels again.  From what I can tell though, even if you go back to redo a level, whatever new stuff you found does not count towards your experience to buy skills with.  Unlockables will probably count though.
12560  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Revenge of the Sith - Anyone else getting it? on: May 06, 2005, 01:24:53 AM
I also just finished the first two missions...so far it's been fun.

The camera is a little wonky, I was hoping that it would follow behind the character, but it follows a set path depending on where you are.  While you can lock onto enemies, it's a clunky interface and lots of times, there are enemies off screen attacking you.

Light saber combat is cool, not like other games that I have played.   There are a lot of moves at your disposal and the combay is more forgiving than PoP:WW.  For example, you can mash buttons, as long as you hit the right one at the right time, it will transition into that move.  You don't have to hit them so precise.

There are movie clips and spoilers, so don't play if you want to avoid that sort of thing.

As with all console games, I stink at first, so hopefully I will get the combat down soon.
