I'm still early on in the game, but the thing that FREAKED me out the most so far....

Spoiler for Hiden:
...in the area after you get the fire plasmid and you melt the ice....there's a shadow on the wall of what looks to be a doctor doing something to a body, but when you get close, the lights go OUT.  I basically crapped then and there.  I had to save at that point and call it a night.  crybaby

Thin_J, are you going with 4 cinema 70s?  Or just 2 for fronts and 2 sats?  What about a sub?
12523  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Home Theater Speakers on: August 22, 2007, 03:12:36 PM
I guess I should add that my living room is really not that big, so I want 5.1 sound, but it doesn't have to blow off the roof.  I am looking up Paradigm now.
12524  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Home Theater Speakers on: August 22, 2007, 02:33:25 PM
Hey all, does anyone have any recommendations for speakers for a home theater system?  I am not a super audiophile, but I do want a decent 5.1 system for movies and games.  Basically I want to stay away from Best Buy and retailers like that.

I believe at one time people had recommended Home Theater Direct http://www.htd.com/ .   Do they ring a bell with anyone?  Any other suggestions?

Thanks much!

For reference, I finished the PC demo just now.  My specs are Core 2 Duo 6600 (2.4), 8800 GTS (640 MB), 2 GB RAM.  I ran the demo at 1280x1024 with 16 x AF and 4 x AA with everything set to high, except DX10, since I am on XP still.  Performance was smooth as silk the whole time.

EDIT:  I am using the nVidia drivers released today as well.

did you force the AA settings through the control panel?

Yeah I forced them on through the nVidia control panel.  I could tell it was on from checking the jaggies on a screen before / after.

OK, so I forced 16x AF and 16xQ AA with no noticeable difference (maybe things were a bit less jaggie but with no saving in the demo and no way to skip the cutscenes it's hard to compare easily).  I'm also using Steam to launch it, so things might not be applying right.

I am also using it on Steam and unless I am crazy  retard it def was applied.

I compared what I was seeing with the screenshots on Tweakguides and I definitely was seeing what the guy had posted, so it must have been working as it was supposed to.

Oh man I was just talking to a friend of mine and he says, "Odd that AA was disabled."  Maybe I am crazy.

The nVidia drivers promised today are out.  They're BETAs.  I was hoping to not have BETA drivers to try, maybe I'll give the game a shot before installing these.  I have a core 2 duo, 2 GB RAM,  and an 8800 GTS, so maybe it'll be fast enough as is.
Have they improved anything? Are they worth dling?

I posted in a diff thread about my performance with that system and the new drivers.  I don't know about any other games, but Bioshock ran smooth as silk.

I have one of the new Premiums with HDMI and it's been great so far.  I was hoping for the 65nm chips, but from what I've read the addition of a second heat-sink should be more than enough to keep me going.  With a 3 year warranty though, I'm not too worried about it even if it does crap out.

Hi guys, I ended up going with the Philips  42PFL7422D/37 from Costco.  42" w/ 1080p.  I have a new 360 Premium with the HDMI connection and it's A-mazing!

12549  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Xbox Live Noob on: August 14, 2007, 02:24:22 PM
Hi all, I am a new to the whole Xbox live scene and I have some questions for anyone who's got a moment.  I started playing with an offline profile (Kevin) which was obviously taken when I tried to sign up to live.  So I used my forum account to browse the Marketplace and stuff.  I only have a silver membership, not really intersted in multi-player at the moment.

Any way, I had been signed into the XBL account when I started a game and I noticed that it said "update available" and I downloaded it.  My question is: do these updates carry over for all user accounts on that Xbox?  Or, are they only applied to the XBL user account?

Also, can you transfer save game data between profiles?

Thanks much!!

12551  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: HDTV recommendations for console gaming on: August 13, 2007, 08:18:22 PM
I have a question about the resolution, if the games only support 720p but the TV is 1080p native, will they look blurry like when you play a resolution on an LCD monitor that is not the native res?
12552  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: HDTV recommendations for console gaming on: August 13, 2007, 07:11:32 PM
Zimix, do you have a Vizio?  Their prices really grabbed my attention, but I got worried if it was too budget.  I don't know anyone in person who has a Vizio so I haven't been able to ask.
12553  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / HDTV recommendations for console gaming on: August 13, 2007, 06:36:30 PM
Hi all, sorry if this is not in the right forum.  I am looking for recommendations for an HDTV for use, amongst other things, with an Xbox 360.  I am looking for something in the 40 - 42" range LCD TV.  What I am not clear on is if I need full 1080p or will 720p be ok.  There's a lot of brands I am also not familiar with.  Does anyone have any glowing recommendations for a TV?  I saw some great prices at Costco, but I am nervous to make a plunge without some prodding slywink

Thanks much!

Been having some pvp fun in this patch.  Lots of people turning out to try and get some goodies.  My build sucks all to hell though...I had one picked out based on the latest Beta push and the Rogue talent trees released to retail were a little bit different.  Still a nice shot in the arm while waiting for the xpack to come out.

Yeah WTF was with that?

I think I'm going to respec to a more PVP viable build, especially with all the cool loot to earn.

Combat Swords ain't gonna cut it.

Yeah I have 40 points in combat right now, but it's ugly as hell.  I don't like my filler one bit.  I'll be looking forward to the final talent tree changes, so I can nail down something good for leveling in the xpack.
