Jon Snow and Stannis

Spoiler for Hiden:
What was the point of all the "real lineage" of jon snow stuff if he just bites it?  Also, what's with the Stannis death scene?  Why the cut away.  Is he or isn't he?  I thought he was dead and they showed what they needed to.  What about you guys?

Spoiler for Hiden:
if nothing else we may get hot Kingslayer on Kingslayer action if Jamie and Brieanna get together.  Stannis is dead, at least that is my opinion.  Jon? No clue.

Spoiler for Hiden:
I felt like Stannis was dead too, but then I read quotes from showrunners about how you have to leave no doubts (they were talking about Jon Snow/Ned etc) and I think why cut away.  Was that the artistic way to film that scene or is there something more sinister at play?

Well whichever way the spoiler stuff goes I just hope we continue to get some decent series moving forwards.  5 seasons in and thre doesn't seem to be any indication that the forces of good are moving towards each other, how many seasons do we have left, have they ever said?  I have enjoyed each season so far.

I'm pretty sure they said 7 seasons

New gameplay of No Man's Sky

Showing Lots of stars in a massive galaxy.  Scanning after launching into a unknown star lights up a bunch of points of interest on your display.

Fully destructible environments, trading, fighting, exploring mentioned.

according to the show runners, Jon Snow is really dead. Kit Harrington says he's not coming back next season. The perfect fuckery ending to a terrible season.

Considering how D&D have mishandled some plot points, I expect them to end the season on a scene that will cause a lot more people to give up on this show.

What do you think it could be?

Silly question but when they showed the pedals in the big War Rig, the brake had something written on it - a three letter word, perhaps Latin? Anyone recall what it was? Not having much luck googling it up.

Nux's car had Nux on the pedal.  I don't remember seeing anything in the war rig.

Sadly, the show has become bad fan fiction. It's George R. R. Martin's fault for not getting the books out in a timely manner, but the quality of the story has collapsed since the writers began broadly making stuff up as they went.

Are people not enjoying the show then? If so is it because it doesn't follow the books closely enough, the violence, or do they just don't think it is very good?

I don't think this season has been very good, but I had liked the show until then.

Saw this tonight and really enjoyed it.  It's definitely action movie to the extreme.  I thought there were quite a few references to the Road Warrior throughout.  Or previous films, at least.

A question about Furiosa

Spoiler for Hiden:
She said that she had made the trip to the green place many times before and that she wanted redemption...was she also involved in stealing girls from their home at some point?  She was obviously one of immortan Joes slaves at some point, due to her having been branded.  Why was she not a breeder?

38mm Sport model got delivered yesterday. I've been wearing it since. Holy fuck is it comfortable. Definitely more comfortable than any of the other watches I wear. I'm also super impressed with the rubber strap - its much nicer than any of the other rubber straps I own for my other watches (three), the least of which cost north of $50 so the quality is impressive given this thing was $350 total. Definitely a nicer rubber strap than you'd get with another $350 watch. The clasp is kind of finicky (I'm not used to this type of buckle) but I love the way the loose end tucks under. Really nice.

So far I'm pretty addicted to checking how my heart rate is doing, mostly because it shows me in better shape than I thought I was in.

Hey Siri works infinitely better than any other iteration of Siri for me... which was a surprise. I was actually able to dictate a couple of text messages with zero issues which has almost never happened with my iPhone.

I don't really love any of the faces... I guess I want something more in line with a mechanical watch and all of them have something about them I don't like. I've settled on Color for now but its still kinda meh.

Apps are hit or miss thus far. Some work great and make sense and others are DOONNNTCAAAARREEE. The coolest is Shazam.

My biggest complaint is that its not very Apple-y in the sense that there's no way I'd want my mom or girlfriend to have one of these. They'd be confused by everything other than telling time. I always thought that's the thing the Apple did well - it made sense to the non tech/non gadget people. This feels more Android-y than Apple-y, and thats not a good thing. But its also not shocking... This is a new form factor and a new way of interacting with technology. Apple probably still has to figure out whats intuitive and what isn't.

Happy I have one.

I am guessing you know, but just in case, the watch faces are really customizable as far as what data is displayed or even some of the UI elements.  Again I'm sure you know, but just throwing it out there.  Also, why 38?  I find even the 42 to be very small.

Yeah I've played with them all don't love any of them. I actually think that the analog ones annoy me less now. I guess there's just something artificial about the analog ones for me.

And I went with the 38 for two reasons:
1) I want this thing to be unobtrusive. I fundamentally find these watches to be ugly relative to a 'real' watch so I'm really just wearing it for function. Basically if I am not in a t-shirt, I'm going to be switching out for another of my other watches so for this use case, I wanted utilitarian and unobtrusive.
2) It was $50 cheaper.

The only time I wish it were bigger is if I am interacting with it, which isn't a lot to be honest. I think the 38 blends with the bracelet nicely and almost makes it look like an activity tracker, which is the look I want.

Regarding interaction, I am finding the glances to be just the right amount of interaction and launching the app seems to be slow and not really enjoyable.  I expect this to get better over time, but so far glances seem to be pretty nice bits of info that respond fairly well.
