Turtle earlier said:

"Sad to see Diane McClintock go like that, I was looking forward to finding logs from her."

I thought I searched everywhere and I never saw something about how McClintock was killed.  Last one I found she was joining up with Atlas and sticking it to Ryan and Co.

Really great game.  A little on the long side for me, but very enjoyable.  The best in-game world I've seen in a long time.

There have been comments about how Halo2 actually had to be rushed and the fact that they ran out of time contributed to the 'ending'.

They had three years to work on it!  More time in fact between Halo 1 & 2 than Halo 2 & 3.

Yeah but according to the previously mentioned article, basically everything was scrapped and started over with a year to go.

Buy a Xbox 360 HD DVD Player and Get Eight HD DVD Discs Free

I'm not seeing where there's 9.  Still, I may have to see what's left over this payday and take the plunge.

For a while you used to be able to get King Kong with your 360 HD-DVD player free. If you happen to get that package from Amazon (no clue if you will at all anymore), then you get 9.

When I looked though, it was 7 free discs - 2 with your HD-DVD purchase, and 5 with mail-in.

*shrugs*

ah, I see.  Now it's 2 free plus King Kong in the box plus the 5 free.  I'd have loved to have a 3rd option off of the list.

I haven't looked again, but when I posted this, it was 5 from Toshiba's MIR, 3 from amazon's deal and 1 King Kong in the box.

Yeah like HL2 I don't even know where my discs are and I can just DL it from Steam if I ever get the urge to play smile
11613  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: A question about Steam on: August 28, 2007, 06:33:12 PM
From Steam:

NOTE:
Because the Kingdoms expansion will use core game elements from the Medieval II: Total War game, it is required that you use the same method for purchasing Kingdoms as you did in purchasing Medieval II: Total War. If you purchased Medieval II: Total War from Steam, then please use Steam to purchase Kingdoms.

>>>

Sounds to me like you won't be able to use the Steam x-pack.
11614  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: A question about Steam on: August 28, 2007, 06:28:35 PM
In my experience, steam will say whether or not the DL expansion will work with the retail game.  The Doom 3 expansion on Steam required the Steam version of Doom 3, for example.  I think some of the Dawn of War expansions downloaded from Steam would work with the retail DoW, though.  Let me see if I can find it.

New deal I just saw on CAG.  3 free movies from amazon, including the 5 from Toshiba's mail-in-rebate.  Could be 9 free movies if King Kong is in the box.

EDIT:  According to the amazon.com listing, King Kong is included.  That's 9 free movies.

I just recently tried to play Thief and gave up in the third level because it was too dark and creepy.  I wanted Splinter Cell and it was giving me something else.  And it was making me dizzy.

Give Thief 2 a try.  It has less of the supernatural/scary stuff from the first Thief.  Splinter Cell outright copies most of it's mechanics from Thief so I would think any SC fan would really enjoy it.

I never got too far with Thief 3, but I heard the Shalebridge Cradle (I think that's what it's called) is one of the scariest levels ever in a game.

Metroid isn't a terribly story-heavy series, so jumping in at any point should be fine.  You may miss some of the inside jokes or references, but nothing vital.  I'd say go for it, Metroid is one of my favorite series.  It's also well worth your while to pick up Super Metroid at some point.  One of the best side-scrollers ever.

Another thing I found with the Prime series is that it perfectly translates the 2D games' gameplay and feel into 3D.  So even if you haven't played one since the SNES days, you'll still feel right at home!

I tried Fatal Frame but got bored and ended up trading it in after it gathered dust for a few months.  The camera idea was interesting at first but it didn't lend itself to scares.  After awhile it seemd to become 'OK, something weirds going on, so let me looks through the camera- oh hey, look. another ghost'.  As for Resident Evil I'll try them when you can move and shoot at the same time  icon_wink

It's been a long time since I played through RE:4, but couldn't you move and shoot at the same time?  Albeit slowly?
11629  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Is it possible to delete an Xbox gamertag? on: August 27, 2007, 02:38:29 PM
Hi all, many moons ago I signed up for Xbox live with the OG Xbox since I got one of those free 2-month cards.  I could never get the wireless to work and I promptly cancelled.  Now I am trying to recover that gamertag and I can't remember all of the information I used to create it in the first place.  My 360 tells me that I can find this information on my original Xbox.  When I try and access said information, the Xbox tells me I have to read a message first before I can sign in.  This message says that my account and subscription have been cancelled, so I can not see what account info I used.  Now, while it's possible that someone used this handle to create an account, I find it very unlikely since it shows online as an original Xbox account with no other updates.  I am wondering how can I delete the handle completely, so I can use the name again, if at all possible?

Thanks much.

I have no doubt that the Wii controls are awesome for the entire FPS genre (or FPA, in Metroid's case slywink ) but I wonder how well this game will sell.  I am under the impression that most of the people who purchased a Wii are not the kind of gamers who would enjoy a game like this.  Seems like most of the people I know who got a Wii, did so because Wii sports was fun and interactive.

I'd make sure the TV really can display 1080p. I'd be really surprised if it did as 1080p support in a 32' TV is way overkill.

Is there a way to confirm it? I mean, it lists it on the TV itself and on the 360 I can set it to that resolution.

Aside from what's displayed on the screen, do you know the model number?  You can check and make sure that the specs call for full 1080p.

I just got a 360 this month and I was waiting to get a Falcon one.  I got one of the new premiums with HDMI, which apparently has an additional heatsink inside.  Either way, with the extended 3 year warranty, I felt safe to take the risk.

I forget, how can you tell if the heatsink is in there?  can you see it through some vents, or is the console alot heavier?

This post should show you how:

http://www.weplayxbox.com/2007/06/20/feeling-cool-how-to-tell-if-your-repaired-xbox-360-has-the-new-additional-heatsink/

I never got down in there though, but since my machine was made in July of 2007, and according so some huge threads I've read on other forums, it's my understanding that these new HDMI ones all have this additional heatsink inside.

Leo that's a good point, as long as the additional heatsink is there it should be OK. I've been pondering this decision as of late too. When I made a post on another BBS just yesterday, I named off the 360 games that interest me and it does now take more than 1 hand to count them.
The question I have is;  do all of the HDMI capable models have the extra heat sink? From what I read in the the linked article in Jag's post, the writer wasn't so sure. It sounds like the Zephyr boards all do, but is there a date or SKU you can look for on 360 boxes? I also have to consider that the 360 is selling at a slower rate in Canada so it may be a long wait for falcon. Hopefully the $100 CDN price cut will boost sales and clear current stock. I'd still prefer to wait for falcon, but if they don't make it onto shelves before the arrival of ME it won't matter anyways; such is my shameless weakness for Bioware RPG's.  icon_confused

I'm pretty sure all the new HDMI premiums have the Zephyr board in them.  Without opening the box you can see the lot number and even the manufacturing date of the machine inside.  It aslo says on the box if it includes HDMI, as well as the kind of mobo.  My box cleary said Zephyr on that white, side tag.  I think that's how the news first broke that the new HDMI premiums were, in fact, not Falcons (before someone cracked one open)

For reference, my machine was built July 4, 2007.  It was lot 0726.

Check white tags on the side of the box and flip up the tab on top to see the manufacturing date.  Should give you a very clear snapshot of what you're getting into.

FWIW, my local stores (CA Bay Area) all have newer Xbox premiums w/ HDMI it seems.
