Ah ok thanks, I was worried that it broke and I couldn't get my black screen back.

11563  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Are game controllers too complicated? on: February 26, 2008, 04:08:47 PM
I saw this article at Kotaku and it got me thinking:

http://kotaku.com/360832/harrison-molyneux-agree-+-controllers-are-too-complicated

I can see where people are coming from, but if future consoles go the way of the Wii and their Wii-mote, I'm not going to be a happy gamer.  Do you guys think that game controllers are getting too complicated?  Do you think the industry is going to change to more basic controls in the next round?

After being skeptical of Transformers and having that movie rock my socks off, I am eagerly anticipating GI Joe the movie.  And if it sucks, I'll just remember Cobra-la and the original GI Joe movie and still be happy.

Hmm that sucks to hear.  I do enjoy drumming, so I'll be picking these up any way.  More load times, inc!

Have you seen their stocks today? Up 50%.  I could give a shit less what the experts say - that stock bump is probably the more telling factor.

Doesn't it have to do that though.  EA offered them a premium of like $10 a share.  If the market keeps trading at $17 and EA is offering $26, then people can make a fortune off the deal.  This way, the gain is only pennies.  At least, that's how I always figured it.

Chaz, I heard this on the radio this morning and I remembered it from the 90s!  Would be fun for Rock Band.

Gellar I am 6 mos into 30 and it's changed man.  I used to be able to eat steaks at midnight and lose weight.  Go boozing for days on end and it was like metabolism fuel.  I'm still healthy weight, 6-2, ~180, but man it's really a shock when you have to go to the gym just to maintain because the pounds don't just drop off from doing nothing.

WEll according to a podcast I heard recently, Madden sales for 2007 (or 8 whichever one came out most recently) were far lower than previous years. Perhaps they want to gobble up new talent to buttress that brand?

Not like they have any competition anyway...

Also, is there some trick for quickly going to the DLC songs, other than scrolling down to the bottom?

Only download songs from the 60s and 70s, then sort the list by decade. slywink

When I want to play something I've just downloaded I usually just sort by artist or song title and find it that way.  The little DLC icon makes them easier to spot.

Ah, I guess my prob is that I always play songs from within Career mode, I barely ever use quickplay.

I never use quickplay, I'm usually in Band World Tour or in Solo Career.  I guess I assumed we were talking about BWT.

Hmm, I guess I've never tried to sort in BWT.  I always just scroll down.  Well that is good to know, I'll try that out later.

11577  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Things I've noticed now that I have a 360 and a PS3. on: February 25, 2008, 03:02:43 PM
Hey, I just got a PS3 last week too!  It now joins my 360 for next gen goodness at my place!!

I think you nailed all of the points I thought as well.  Actually, it's kind of weird how similar my feelings are between them both o_0

Target had that sale where you get a $40 gc with the purchase of a 40GB PS3 and they had Resistance on sale for $40, so I picked both of them up.

(not to derail too much, but some more impressions)

- Uncharted is AMAZING.  Same feelings I got from Gears of War as in, "Wow, this is truly a next-gen game."  I'm totally loving this one.

- Resistance seems bland so far, I've read a lot here about how it takes a bit to pick up.  You can definitely tell it's a launch title.

- I downloaded (bought) Pixel Junk Monsters (which is basically Warcraft 3 Tower Defense) but it was well done and I wanted to support it.

- I also downloaded the demo for Ratchet and Clank and I don't understand what all the praise was for.  The demo seemed pretty blah to me.  Is it a bad representation of the full game?  Also what's up with not being able to invert the aiming.  Hopefully that's demo only.

So yeah, the PS3 is gonna be my multi-media device, while the Xbox 360 will be my platform of choice for multi-platform games.  I'm happy to now be able to enjoy exclusives on both platforms.

EDIT: I also found that loading a profile takes a long time now.  Is that something that can be optimized at some point?  We're only a couple months into DLC and I know I'll be buying more.

I just finished the solo tour for drums on Easy and man oh man, what fun.  The set list was short though, I guess the higher levels have more to the set list.  Not to mention the 700 MB of DLC I bought slywink

I didn't think that another instrument would be as fun as the guitar, but I am a total drum convert now....what a blast.  Bravo Harmonix!!

GH/RB - I had never tried them until GH3.  I was instantly hooked on my first song on easy.

Did I say that?!  Man, that's just wrong.

Wait. Where does one get the auger?  The hardware store? I've never used it...

For guitar you can trigger star power at any time by tilting the guitar upright, provided you have enough energy to trigger.

According to a couple news sites, Still Alive by GLaDOS was confirmed at the Valve party last night as being playable in Rock Band.  LOL sweet.

No worries.  I don't think we need to doubt the production values.

I hear everything is going to be cel shaded anime style  icon_wink

Not that I would want that for gears of war, but I think it sucks that they ever made another zelda game that wasn't cell shaded.

Make no mistake, Call of Duty 4 players: Infinity Ward is listening.

If you need evidence, you need look no further than the slew of updates and changes that are coming to the game in the coming months, which we talked with IW community relations manager Robert Bowling about today at GDC.

The first in the pipeline is a feature patch that's just been sent to Microsoft for Xbox 360 certification and will soon go to the PS3 for certification.

Arguably the most important new addition is host migration. In short, if a host leaves a game, all players stay together, a suitable replacement is chosen and the game begins anew. Though the game doesn't continue uninterrupted, it should help to keep a host departure from being so jarring.

From a gameplay perspective, the patch will improved sniper rifle accuracy, as well as the accuracy on the ACOG scope.

The sniper fix (as well as the host migration feature, for that matter) was born of direct feedback from the community, according to Bowling.

The same can be said of the other features like an expanded Kill Cam with all weapons, including claymores, airstrikes and grenades, getting the feature.

Also, expect nine new spawn points in every map, a quick mute feature and an improved spectator cam that allows a first-person view as well as being fully rotatable in 3rd person.

Though the changes are numerous, Bowling said he doesn't expect it to be the last such update, especially if fans remain vocal.

"We never assume that we're done, we never pat ourselves on the back, wipe our hands and assume that we're finished."
