Hey KePow, some examples on Hard that kill me are Sabotage, Reptilia, and The Hand That Feeds.  The sections in those songs just ruin me.  I can never keep strumming properly.

Chaz is right.  If you keep the beat with your foot, you pick the notes per the beat and are not trying to pick as the note crosses the line thingie...

leo, how new are you to music theory?  Have you tried doing a mental "one two three four one two three four" or "one and two and three and four and" count as you try to get the timing right on those long strings of notes?  That kind of mental count can especially help if the song has occasional other color notes in the midst of the stream of the main color.  Instead of thinking "ok, here come those two blue notes" and trying to time it as they cross the line, you just know to play them on the "three and" part of the count.

Hey Wonderpug, I'd say I am a total novice.  I have an idea of what you're saying, but it's not something I have been doing in game.  I'll try and do that.

give us some specific examples of songs on Hard

then I'll know whether to recommend downpicking exclusively, or if it's too fast and you need to alt-pick

most of the time, it's a lot easier to keep rhythm on those types of passages with downpicking

Play a solider and make sure that you have Garrus or Tali along for the ride the whole game and limit their ability to use powers autonomously.

Each character gets 10 save slots of thier own, no oeverwriting by accident of another character.

Thanks Arkon.

Regarding Para/Rene, I got points in Renegade when I didn't even think I was being bad sometimes.

Hey all.  I saw all tho hoo-haa here about how Harmonix just plain does better note charts, which led me to pick up Rock Band and concentrate more on GH2.  I have found that after some solid playing, I can do a-ok on Hard mode now.  I don't just fail a song after 10% automatically.  Whether that's because the notes are more natural or because I play more, I'll never know!!

Any way, I can do ok with fast moving fingers and chords and stuff.  HOWEVER, the thin I just cannot nail is multiples of the same notes really close together.  Like a string of 25 red or whatever in a row.  I screw up EvERY time. It sucks to be doing really good on a song and them BAM no bonus.  To make matters worse, it seems like as songs go up in difficulty it basically means that they now have lots of the same notes in a row.

My question to you rock gods....how did you get better on repeat notes?  Please help me GT, you're my only hope!

Are you down-strumming exclusively when trying to hit those notes?  Or are you strumming both up and down?  Keep in mind that there's a practice mode in Rockband that allows you to play a particular part of a song slower

I started by trying to go up and down, but I could never keep up, so I just strum down with my thumb on these parts now.  I can just never keep the beat, as it were on these long single note sections that are so close together.

I don't think all hope is lost.  Just knowing that Saren was able to find a cure means that other, more benevolent scientists, should be able to do it too.

The question is more wether the council would allow it.

My guess is that the shadow broker is a Reaper, or more to the point an agent of the reapers... remember that the promethean AI/VI said that the Reapers sit back and collect information about the civilizations.

I"m guessing Promethean because the conversation with the AI  on Illos kind of left that hanging- the few remaining Prometheans went through the conduit to Citadel station and were presumed dead or somesuch.  Plus, the Shadow Broker agent you talk to refers to the SB maybe being a group of peopl so it might be the entire band of Prometheans that went through the Conduit.

I've seen the Reaper theory as well but my gut instict is that the Shadow Broker is "good".

That is an interesting theory... but how long do Prometheans live?  Over 50,000 years???  The AI said there weren't enough Prometheans left to repopulate that race.  Remeber that the AI said that Saren wasn't the only agent, but rather was just the most visible.

Maybe they were in cryo capsules for a large portion of that time and only come out periodically to check to see if technology is approach an apex that would initiate the Reapers and then they drop into "real time" to ensure that that the Reaper's plans are foiled.  Of course they have to stay in the shadows because to reveal themselves would immediately make them a target for the Reaper's agents (yeah, I'm talking out my ass here)....

Except, the conduit was a one way ride... they would have had no ship to get back to Illos from the citadel, and if they had the Reapers surely would have found them I would think.  Although it would be awesome to be able to meet a Promethean.  I also wish the Salarian would have been a playable party member race... they rock.

Oh and I also wish they had made a way to save the genophage cure to give to the Krogan in Virmire.

I replayed the Wrex interaction on Virmire a couple times, too.  I thought there has to be a path to save my buddy Wrex's people.

I finished last night and I think I leaned towards Paragon, but I got annoyed towards the end and made some renegade decisions.  I played as a vanguard.

I saved the Rachni queen.  I let Kaiden die.  I bumped uglies with Liara.  I sacraficed the council and felt a slight, fleeting bit of remorse for the Asari ship that carried them.  They were bastards anyway and we needed a new council.  I chose Anderson for the Human council member.  I saved Wrex, I didn't know you even got a chance to fight him.

Total play time was just over 24 hours, I somehow did not get the completist achievement or the ally ones, even though I used Wrex and Tali the whole time.

End character was level 48.  I had no problems killing anything after about mid-way.

I did not like the game at all at first.  As I played it grew on me and the last bit was really good, but for the most part unforgettable.  I may try and play through again with different abilities for shits and giggles.

Here's another reason why I hope Microsoft finishes in third place this generation: sponsored achievements!

I just read on QT3 that EA is including paid advertisements in their "Achievement Unlocked' popup balloons within the new Need For Speed. When you receive the acheivement, "My First Wreck", it helpfully informs you that this achievement was brought to you by Progressive Insurance.

 finger EA and Microsoft.

That's been my combination as well.  Tali is the only one that has high enough hacking and electronic skills to open stuff, and Ashley is a freaking tank.  Haven't run into too many problems yet, although a little behind you level-wise (32).

I'm playing as a Vanguard and I use Wrex and Tali.  It's pure ownage!

Well after hearing all the chatter here about how the note charts in RB were much better than GH3, I decided to get the game-only version to get some more tunes.

First off, I take back my comments about how the game doesn't look good.  Once I got this home on my LCD TV I see that the animations and backgrounds are amazing and while the fret is simplistic, it actually helps a noob like me out to focus on what to strum next.

Rock Band is much, much easier than the other 2 GH games that I've played (2 and 3).  I was able to 5 star a couple songs on hard and I can't even crack into hard on GH3.  It seemed like the frist few hard songs in RB were tailored for learing how to move your hands, rather than just throwing your ass in the fire and bringing down walls of notes.  I don't think the difficulty is a bad thing, I rather like being able to pick it up a notch and not be totally overwheled.  I was just surprised at how barren the note charts are in medium.

Depending on how pricey the individual instruments are when announced next year, I may even pick up a drum set to give that a whirl.

Overall I really like it.  I really like GH3 also.  Fun times to be getting into this whole rhytmn game thing smile
