As I'm thinking back on the game, I just realized - does anybody remember feeling the controller rumble? I sure don't.

Yeah I kept botching an assassination and killing myself to restart and it rumbles when you get hit at least.

Oh, and for the XBLA peoples, three announcements.  Halo 3 map pack on 12/11 (just post-return-of-t3h-ATB) for 800 points, Undertow this Wednesday for 800 points, and a nice sale on XBLA games for residents of the US of A - 50% on games from 11/21 through 11/26.

Gamerscoreblog:

Quote
First and foremost, we have just announced that there were be a Halo 3 map pack releasing on December 11th. From the media alert:

Available for 800 Microsoft Points exclusively on Xbox LIVE Marketplace, each map presents a totally different play style. Standoff’s symmetrical valley, with its entrenched bases and fields of boulders is ideal for mid-sized objective and Slayer game types, while Rat’s Nest’s vast, labyrinthine passages bring something new to the “Halo” multiplayer experience: an indoor vehicle paradise, strongly influenced by the Campaign mode, ideal for big team battles. Finally, Foundry is the ultimate Forge map – players can edit every single object in this voluminous industrial warehouse, place stairways, walls, bridges and tunnels to create an entirely new play space and build almost any kind of map they can think of.

And coming out this Wednesday on Xbox LIVE Arcade is Undertow.

"Undertow" redefines aquatic based shooters through a mix of high-definition graphics, intuitive controls and multiple modes of game play action. "Undertow" features a story driven single player campaign, on and offline co-op, and multiplayer for up to 16 players over Xbox LIVE. Players battle for control of the oceans as one of three selectable races, each with four unique, upgradeable units. "Undertow" will be available worldwide this Wednesday for 800 Microsoft Points and is rated E10+.
• For more details on “Undertow,” please visit http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/u/undertowxboxlivearcade/

Speaking of holiday sales, MSN Games is running a sale later this week. From the media alert:

In other Microsoft Casual Games news, Thanksgiving comes early this year with an MSN Games “Thanksgaming Sale.” Starting at 12:01 a.m. PST on Wednesday, November 21 (3:01 a.m. EST) through 8:59 p.m. PST (11:59 p.m. EST) Monday, November 26, ALL download titles on MSN Games will be 50% off in the United States only. For more details on the MSN Games “Thanksgaming Sale,” please visit http://zone.msn.com/en/general/article/thanksgamingsale.htm.

That looks like PC game downloads, not XBLA.

I just did the 4th Assassination and I have a question

Spoiler for Hiden:
This was the Merchant King.  I was all prepped to do a stealth kill and then he tries to kill all his guests and all hell breaks loose.  Can you not stealth-kill some targets?  Or did I just mess up?

Been 55 for 3 days, finished the entirety of the first 3 prestige classes (except one that is bugged), and am +2000 kills. You need to play more dude smile I think my K/D is about 1.65, but I have to do the math myself so you never know.

PC version for me though. I still prefer the M4 to the AK-greatly, but the MP5 is probably my all around favorite weapon. I have a bunch of crazy combos I do, but usually I do my MP5 and some variation of primary perk. The M4, due to the extremely weak damage per bullet, can definitely be tricky to use though-I recommend it with stopping power or double tap (a perk you likely don't have yet) or maybe even sleight of hand. You need to maximize the amount of damage you can do.

Yeah yeah! I unlocked double tap either last night or night before. Explain it pleas.  Why do I need my gun to fire faster?  It's already an automatic weapon....

Also, I heard people talking about 'grips' last night. What do they do and when do you get them?

Faster rate of fire = more bullets = people die faster if you don't headshot them.  You can really see the difference with this on the M16, since it shoots in 3 bullet bursts.  If you miss that first burst, with double tap you can get another one off super fast.

Grips are only for some weapons, iirc the shotties and large machine guns.  It helps with recoil so when you shoot it does not aim straight up from kick-back.

i've always made sure to do all the investigations first, but that would make sense.  once you go to the bureau for permission, you're essentially saying that you have all the necessary information to carry out your task.  from that point, you only goal is to kill your mark and escape.

Yeah that ended up being it.  I am worried I just screwed myself on an achievement now.

Ok I just did my second assassination and it was the first one in Jerusalem.

Spoiler for Hiden:
I had no idea it was scripted to not be stealthy and I was annoyed I couldn't sneak up on him.  None-the-less, I caught up to him and jump stabbed him in the neck for some payback.  Onward to Acre!

Just starting this.
I like it so far, but have a question.
I'm heading to the tower after the first botched assassination attempt.
Along the way, some of the characters have a "glow" around them.
What does that mean?

The glow has something to do with the type of NPC it is.  In the training session it tells you what white means, vs blue, red, or yellow.   I honestly can't remember now frown

I finished Jerusalem (2nd kill) last night and was heading to Acre before calling it a night. I was like "screw the speed limit" so I just galloped full tilt from waypoint to waypoint purposefully reigning chaos on civilians and just killing any guards around when I stopped to do the waypoint. Not exactly stealthily keeping the Creed a secret, but quite a bit of fun! smile

About the guards in the Kingdom...is that why they attack you; because you are not using the blend button when on the horse?  I wondered why when I first went in there they attacked me on sight.

if you move past them on horseback at any pace faster than your blend pace they'll come after you.  it's profiling I tell you!

My single gripe thus far is the fact that you can't lean around corners, it would be a useful feature in so many situations, no idea why it wasn't implemented.

That would probably break the game.  The game is designed to force you to reach checkpoints or face infinite enemies.  But a cover system encourages camping.  I don't think infinite respawns + camping work well together.  I also wish they had finite spawn and a cover system like Vegas.

It took me a bit to figure that out, that they will just keep sending enemies at you until you move.  I don't really like that either.

Have you tried creating a distraction?   I don't know if it will work (I went the scholar route) but it's an idea.

What's this distraction business all about?  Do you just execute someone in close proximity to the guards?
11507  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Assassin's Creed Reviews on: November 16, 2007, 03:24:49 PM
I've only finished one assassination, but I got some achievement for doing it all sneaky-like.  Blade in the crowd, or something like that.

I've gotten a hang of the controls now and I am liking it.  I had some side quest in Jerusalem where I had to collect 18 flags in 3 minutes and it really was neat to run and leap across the roof tops.  I really practiced on controls in the home-base city and found all 20 flags there to get a good grip on the controls and what not.

Combat is much better with counter-kill moves.  I'm looking forward to new combat things as I move along in the game.

Someone mentioned it earlier, but it's good to go to the start menu after you complete an investigation and read up and view any attachments that may be there.  Neat for people who like to scan everything (a la Metroid Prime).

Got it and played for a couple hours.  Controls will take some getting used to, but I'm not worried about it.  The game is beautiful, just amazing looking.  Is it me or does the light dim when the Sun goes behind clouds?  The character's voice does seem out of place, but it's a minor thing that I have no problem looking past.  So far, I'm having fun.  Back to 1191 for me!

P.S.  Great read from Gabe.  That's how I'll end up playing this game as well.  Searching out for all the goodies.

And for whatever reason (make up your own theories here), IGN has changed their PS3 review:

Quote
On Destructoid you can find the proof that IGN indeed modified its Assassin's Creed review.

The current review contains this:
"These big open worlds, which are fully interactive, do come at a cost. There is considerable texture pop-in and occasional framerate hiccups. None of this deters from the gameplay though, so it is forgivable."

The original review contained this:
"These big open worlds, which are fully interactive, do come at a severe cost on PS3. There is considerable texture pop-in and noticeable framerate issues. Playing back-to-back with the 360 version, it's obvious that Ubisoft did not devote enough resources to the PS3 edition. The framerate is considerably worse, so much so that it begins to affect gameplay in the later levels. You can get through the first two-thirds of Assassin with the framerate being just an annoyance, but it becomes more of an issue for the final third of the missions."

Hmmm...

This whole AC review business is madness!

I'm at level 26 now and I really want a new weap.  I've been using the M4 a lot, but it's weak.  The MP5 is nice, but the range is terrible.

I've also found that I like the red dot scope much better than the zoom scope.
