Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Half-Life 2 Deathmatch just released via steam

Wait, I just leave steam on, but with WoW out I don't even know what HL2 is any more. Does that mean HL2DM has been downloaded onto my computer in the background, or do I have to manually click download it? Thanks!! You will need to exit and restart Steam. Then Steam will update itself and verify your CS:Source files. After that, you can click on Play Games and then click on HL2:DM at the bottom (it should be in light green). Click Next to start download it. It should only take a few minutes to complete. Thanks!

Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Bypassing the WoW queue

Or you can go to a server with low/med pop. NEVER! I have to play on the most populated server, and if I can't I'm going to go whine and complain and call people homosexuals on the WoW forums! Oh man those forums are the worst. Thank goodness the Blizz employee posts are highlighted, so I can just scroll down to them.

Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WoW: Q&A, Hints and Tips, Etc.

Also, unless I am crazy, you can talk to a class trainer and have them wipe your talent point placement and redistribute your talent points. This way you are not stuck if you mess up, or you want to move your character to another direction. I think that's a cool feature. Like the buy back button with merchants. The first time you do this it cost you 1 gold (which is a lot for a low-mid level character). It cost you 5 gold the second time and the price goes up 5 gold each additional time. When talents were first introduced you could wipe them for free, but they changed that toward the end of beta. Oh, well shoot, I didn't know that. I guess you need to put some thought into it then.

Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WoW opposing faction lands?
on: November 30, 2004, 05:25:20 PM
Hey all, while it's still awhile away for me, I am wondering if your travels ever lead you to the opposing faction lands. As an Undead player, I really like what's happened to Lorderon (sp?), but Durotar/Barrens is bland, bland, bland (so the exception of Stonetalon Mountains so far!!!!) Will I ever get to visit the Alliance lands for quests? Note that I am NOT on a PvP server. Thanks!

Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / World of Warcraft Impressions

As I get better in Alchemy, I think I'll start making a nice profit selling some good potions. Ok, so I gotta say that I have not been this hooked on a game since Warcraft 3. I got the game on Friday morning and I literally played for three days straight. I haven't done that in years. I have a level 20 Undead Rogue and I'm just loving it. Rogue is the class for me. Melee with good damage. And with Herbalism and Alchemy, I can make potion buffs that are cool too. What an amazing game. I just want to play all the time!!!

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Please wait while Steam verifies game files...
on: November 26, 2004, 06:31:51 PM

Well this is just silly. It seems that every time I play CS and then play HL, it validates my game files. Getting this game to start is a chore. I hope the trend dies here. Doesn't do that to me. Well damn, I wish it didn't do that to me.

Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WoW Server Choice Question
on: November 26, 2004, 04:56:18 AM

Another question for you guys. I live on the West Coast, so I would normally play on a Pacific Time Zone server. I see that all of the guilds talking here are on Central time servers. If I were to create a character there, would I have terrible lag?

Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Question about Gateway computer in Best Buy Black Friday ad
on: November 25, 2004, 07:33:14 PM
Hey all, I see that BB has a Gateway computer in their Black Friday ad for $979.97. The specs are really good: P4 3 Ghz, 1GB DDR RAM and a 160 GB HD. It even comes with a printer and 17" LCD.
Specs-wise, I know that's a good comp. My question is, is Gateway a reputable company? Is their stuff any good? I've been building my own computer for years now, so I don't go and buy the name brands. Can anyone comment on how well built their computers are?
Edit: This is for a Xmas gift for a non-gamer, so it doesn't need to be a gaming rig.

Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WoW Server Choice Question
on: November 25, 2004, 07:17:19 PM
Hey all, I think I'll probably pick this up at Compusa tomorrow for $40, although I may not install it just yet. I have a question about server choice for you.
If I select a server that is PvP, do I have to engage in PvP all the time? I mean, can someone just run up and kill me, or do I have to actively enable it? I know that at first I won't want to play like that, but eventually I may want to go on a raid against some human players. So, does anyone know how that will work?
Also, can you create a Horde and Alliance character on the same server?
Thanks!

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [XBOX]Chronicles of Riddick Question
on: November 25, 2004, 09:00:46 AM
Having fun with this one, but I have a gripe and maybe I'm being too picky. Didn't Riddick always say that he got his "eye-shine" in a surgical operation in a slam for 20 menthols? What's up with the "midiclorian" presto you've got eye-shine story?

Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Recommendations for DVD viewing software?
on: November 25, 2004, 06:01:30 AM
Hey all, I just ordered a CD-RW/DVD ROM combo drive and I'm wondering what software I'll need to be able to watch DVDs. I think the drive comes with something (It's OEM, so who knows), but I wonder if there's anything else out there that's rock-solid? Any recommendations?
Edit: Does WMP 10 do all of this anyway?

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / What to ask for???? a.k.a. There's just too many of them
on: November 24, 2004, 06:59:28 PM
I guess this is more of a rhetorical thread, but I just have to get it out. What to ask for for Xmas???? There's just too much going on. I've come to the grim realization that from this poing on, I'll never be able to play all the games that I want to. (I'm not Devil, you know  ).
So what do I get?
KotOR II PoP:WW Metroid Prime 2 Halo 2 Paper Mario 2 WoW (yeah I know, PC)
I've already got these on my plate:
Chronicles of Riddick (Xbox) HL2
Warhammer 40K DoW (literally pushed aside by new games coming out) Tribes Vengeance (Same thing as with Warhammer)
I know it's been said before, but this is the most insane release period for games EVER!

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [XBOX]Chronicles of Riddick Question
on: November 24, 2004, 03:31:19 AM

Second only to Half-Life 2 as game of the year in my book. When you get the eye shine, you'll know. It's also nothing like what you think it might be. CoR is a hell of a great game. And it's a got a great ending too. One that is worth playing for, and that's increasingly rare these days. I'm glad they're going to continue the series. Is there going to be a sequel?
