11081  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / SOCOM PS3 coming Sept 16 on: March 27, 2008, 02:29:15 AM
From 1UP.com

I'm not really sure about this one, but I figure some people will be excited.  All I know is that in order to play the special forces classes, you have to be in a clan and that sounds like ass to me.

Quote
We've brought you several big stories on SOCOM Confrontation in the past month, but today Sony passed on one more important piece of information: a release date. The latest iteration of the popular online shooter franchise will be arriving on September 16.

To celebrate this news, tomorrow Sony will be launching SOCOM.com, an online community site devoted to the game. Pre-release, the site will provide regular news updates as well as a place for fans to get together. Once the game has launched, gamers will discover full integration with the website, including near real-time stat tracking, clan management tools, and more.

You can check out 1UP's most recent online preview of SOCOM from the beginning of the year, but if you want a more up-to-date and in-depth look at the game, you'll want to pick up the May issue of EGM -- the one with the colorful SOCOM cover below. Check it out on newsstands next week or in your mailbox any day now if you're a subscriber. EDIT: And enjoy the new exclusive screenshot above!

I've been having all sorts of trouble even getting regular DVD versions of new releases lately.  I think right now I have 5 recent releases (the last month or so) still on Long Wait and a few other things on Short Wait.  Up until a month or two ago I never, ever had that problem.  It's really pissing me off that it's been weeks and I still haven't gotten new releases.

That's odd, I had Hitman (BR) on the top of my list the other day with Long Wait.  I returned a movie and Hitman shipped to me with no wait.

Whoa I'm not liking that change either....I want to know what format is coming my way.

If you own a Wii you are 8 years old.

Also I get a kick out of the comments he puts at the end to the requests for reviews.

FWIW I've only played the campaign in non-splitscreen co-op mode but I haven't witnessed any slow down either.

This makes no sense (of course I believe you, I'm not referring to your experience). We have a wide variety of boxes here-manufacture date, HDMI, Pro, Elite, Arcade, etc. And it appears that its maybe 50/50 experiencing slowdown vs. not. How does this make any sense?

Makes sense to me just because of the shoddy quality control.  The 360's out there have vastly different levels of heat and load tolerance.  Many systems are probably in various stages of over heating and RROD.  Different ambient temps may be a factor.  Either way, I'm not that surprised.  Long gone are the days where every console of the same type is indeed the same.

I highly doubt all of that especially considering I have one of the newer 360 models so if anything I should be the one it runs smoothly for. If your talking about playing the game while the system is hot, that also couldn't apply either because when I was having the issues I had just recently booted the system. It's definitely a software issue, not hardware.

Newer doesn't necessarily mean better especially when it comes to Microsoft Tongue
I have a launch box that I leave on for days (through the night) and its working fine.  Although I wonder if the cooler temperatures in my basement have something to do with it.

I'm sure it does.  I've always wondered if most of the xbox problems are from people putting their consoles in enclosed spaces with no air flow at all, or similar situations.

I'm still a little bothered by the fact that the words "erected" and "tentpole" were used by DragonFyre in his first two posts.

As to the movies, I'm more interested in Candy Land. I hope it's an NC-17 title. Tongue

I never really got into GI Joe, so I have no preconceived notions. It could waver from the story completely and I wouldn't notice it. As to Bay's Transformers, I'm not willing to dive back into that mire. The fact that they made bank does not a good movie make.

OMG!  I love the TF movie, it rocked!!

Rocked the cradle of crap containing a baby made out of diarrhea.

Does this mean you didn't like it?  Because if you didn't then I must kindly ask you to DIAF!

and yeah i think it is chris redfield(is he the one who has the sister..or is that the valentines....its getting a bit character heavy now this series...who was the one who betrayed tham all?.....argghhh)

Wesker was the betrayer.  Yeah it's Chris Redfield as the character in this game.  He was one of the people you could play in the OG RE.

11092  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Netflix was down....you get a credit for it! on: March 26, 2008, 04:21:07 PM
For those who didn't know, Netflix was down on Monday.  Looks like they're applying a 5% credit to your next bill for it:

from sfgate.com:

Quote
Online DVD rental leader Netflix Inc. said Wednesday it will provide a 5 percent credit on the monthly bills of customers affected by its Monday outage.

Netflix spokesman Steve Swasey did not disclose the number of customers affected, or the total amount that will be refunded, saying the credit will not have a material impact on the company's financial operations.

"The key thing here is: This was completely proactive on Netflix's part. There's no requirement for Netflix to do this, no obligation. There was no request for it. We thought it was the right thing to do," Swasey said.

Many of Netflix's 7.5 million members return, rather than receive, DVDs on Mondays after watching them over the weekend, Swasey said. The outage resulted in a one-day delay for people expecting to receive DVDs on Tuesday.

Swasey confirmed that one section of the site, its ratings system, remained down until Tuesday morning, as the company had decided to prioritize getting the ordering and shipping functions back online.

Monday's outage knocked out its Web site for about 11 hours. It marked the second-longest disruption since Netflix launched its service nine years ago. Netflix's Web site was down for more than 18 hours last July when the Los Gatos-based company lowered its prices.

Netflix shares were down 1 cent, to $37.11, in midday trading Wednesday.

it still should have come with regular cables that could be used for the PS2.

Are the cables that came with the PS3 component, or do HD cables even matter with the PS2?

Just saw this at gamevideos, it's some footage from some capcom dvd, but there's some RE5 gameplay in the background.  Redfield looks like he's on 'roids, but damn the game looks sweet!!!  So very high on my most wanted list.

Hey all, I was short-sighted and didn't go with the 80GB PS3 with the BC for PS2 games.  I never had a PS2, so I never played any of the games for the system.  There are 3 games that I am interested in playing though, I just don't want to have to buy a system, memory card, and cables for it to play these games (GoW, GoW2, and SotC).

Does anyone think that Sony will release some kind of DLC BC for 40GB users, or is it really a dead item moving forward?  Maybe Sony will put the PS3 GoW games on the eventual GoW 3 disc, or sell them in the PSN store?

So, are they very carefully placing the sword so it reflects his shoulder, or is that etched into the blade?

The only way that blade could be reflecting both the light and his shoulder would be if the light source was at his shoulder.  I'm guessing it's etched/painted on the blade.

Yeah it seems etched to me as well.

163,708 on "More Than a Feeling", only missed a few notes in the solo (my third try at the song tonight; the first try was really lousy, because my mind started to play the old note chart from GH1! icon_lol). I didn't get the "communicating with Rock Band servers" message when it ended the song and saved before dropping to the playlist. If that score didn't get uploaded I am going to be mad. icon_evil

That sucks man...I'm noticing that even if I have a higher score than the one I get, if the communicating with server message comes up, that's what goes online.

Someone had this happen to them before, but I've been looking at the leaderboards and I notice that some of my scores aren't ranked even though they are higher than the lowest totals.  Anyone know why that is?  My 360 is always connected to the net.

Isn't that like $27,000 USD?

No, don't be silly.  Only $26,842.13 USD.
