At least on Amazon it's a simple click with the little popup prompt that goes away easily.

The only times it really bothers me is when I have to actually add the item to my cart on the site to see the supposed discount. That is irritating.

I would like to buy a PS3 because of the blu ray victory, but if I personally wasn't in the next gen arena yet, I'd buy an xbox 360 first.

For those guys with LCD TV's, what do you have your lag set to by chance?

The HD DVD player is not obtrusive, so I'm perfectly fine with it living in my entertainment system for quite some time.  And like it or not, I won't be watching any BR movies until the prices come down.  I'm simply not paying $400 for a movie player.  I didn't do it with HD, and I'm not doing it with BR, even though the war is over, so I may as well enjoy what I have.

they've already got some Blu Ray on sale for under 400 bucks, so you might not have to wait long.

Not a bad price for a BR player.  Now if only the the PS3 would go on sale like that!

Thanks wonderpug...I have some free time the next couple days so I think I'll be spending some time playing with it.
11051  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Rock Band Impressions! on: February 17, 2008, 09:29:41 AM
Yeah I've been playing on easy, I thought that might have something to do with it since easy guitar skips notes completely so that newbies can actually do it.

I originally had it calibrated to just LCD only, but then I manually did it and it set the off sets to whatever it set to.  I don't recall now.  Lag was one value and the AV one was another.

I just feel like I have to slow down my playing so much to make the notes.  I haven't seen a song yet that had me fumbling to hit the pad on time, it's like I hit the pad and it doesn't register.

One thing that I think happens is that I must hold the stick too loose and when I hit red, for example, it bounces and then taps the pad again.  Because I've seen a couple times where I'll finish the energy section, but then it'll play the drum click like I missed a note.

Do you have Rhythm? hehe. But seriously, you could try breaking the songs down in chunk. I never count or anything in these songs, I go solely by muscle memory. But i hear this helps people out. is it offbeat kick pedal notes? I find myself wondering what's up until I noticed that im hitting the kick pedal at the wrong time. The timing window is no more harsh than that of the guitar.

Well I am a 30 y.o. white guy, so as much rythmn as my body can carry.  But seriously, easy is really easy, even if you've never played drums.  I don't feel like I cannot keep up with what the notes are, it's like I hit the pad but the game registers a miss.

Start up "Who's Next" in practice mode for drums, and put it on repeat on the organ intro.  There you can test out your set.  Does it seem like there's a delay from your physical hit to your on-screen hit?  Drum a basic beat, is it missing any of the notes?  Try doing a fast roll, does it pick up all the hits or does it start  blanking out?

And just to cover all the bases...are you hitting all the bass notes?  I've seen some people ignore the orange line and wonder why the game keeps registering a miss every 4th beat.

Ok I did the organ intro to the Who song, it's not who's next, and my drums seem to be registering ok.

I went back and played the weezer song over and over and finally 5 starred it by slowing down my playing unnaturally.  I'm basically not even playing to the beat anymore, but to the colors, which sucks.  Yes I have calibrated as well.  I'm hoping the higher levels will be more in tune with the music, I suppose guitar was the same way.

i am not very good at guitar hero...but,i am a big fan of Aerosmith, went to see them here in manchester,UK in 1997(just before 'dont wanna miss a thing' was released i think),i have most of their stuff(one or two compilations havent made it into my collection, because i had all the songs)...so i will prolly pick this up...be good to see which version of 'walk this way' will be used...Aerosmiths?,or Aerosmiths with Run DMC?..or maybe both, they both have the cool guitar riff

...still,i hope they have an 'easy' setting,so i can at least see/hear/play the  majority of the songs..the easy setting would be for people like me,Aerosmith fans, but not so much Guitar hero fans,LOL

GH games are more for the casual crowd I think than the ubers who make the youtube vids.  There will definitely be an Easy setting.

Maybe Neversoft is learning better note charts.  Dream On was fun to play even on Hard mode and it was not too difficult.  I got 5 stars and I think I've only done that with a handful of songs in GH3 on Hard.

After playing with the drums for about 3 hours tonight, I am frustrated to all end.  I messed with calibrating for quite a bit tonight in hopes it would help out, but the damn drums are punishing.  There's barely a millisecond sweet spot to hit the note and the dual notes are ridiculous in their leeway for hitting them on time.  There was at least 5 times in each song I wanted to snap my drumsticks in half wondering how that note did not register.

According to Joystiq, here's next week's DLC because of the Monday Holiday....3 buys for me!!!!

Individual Songs

    * Sex Type Thing - Stone Temple Pilots (160 MS points/ $2)
    * El Scorcho - Weezer (160 MS points/ $2)
    * Why Do You Love Me - Garbage (160 MS Points / $2)
11061  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Rock Band Impressions! on: February 15, 2008, 11:01:22 PM
How hard do I need to his the drums to get them to register?  Are you guys smackin gthe crap out of them or tapping, or..?

EDIT:  Ok it looks like the drums are hitting properly, so that means I'm just drum stoopid.  Any one have a suggestion for where I can read a good drum tutorial?  The in-game stuff was not helpful.

Do you think the PS3 ourselling the 360 had anything to do with the 1st party or 3rd party exclusives?  It definitely did not.

I think it was Blu-Ray.

If I get a BR player, you can be sure it'll also be a PS3, so that I can also play the exclusive game on it.

Also, ATB your avatars scare me.

Not my favorite choice of band, but Aerosmith has some fun songs and I'm totally hooked on these guitar games, so I'm sure I will get it.

And the GH series isn't going anywhere.  What are you guys going to do if Neversoft learns form the critique and releases a game you all liked as much as Gh2?

There's also a new RTS game that just went online this week I believe.  Sorry, I can't recall the name.

Actually, I've found the vocals to be slightly more sensitive to calibration than the drums, it's just that the vocal calibration issues only stand out on songs with a lot of short words like Here It Goes Again.

When you calibrate, I'd also use a controller's face button to do the "strum with the beat" phase.  It always winds up more accurate than strumming or even hitting a drum.  Then, once you've done that, note what the offset is, and write it down.  Later, you can adjust it up or down to fine-tune.

Sorry if this is a dumb question Chaz, but do you mean the ABXY buttons on the middle of the drum kit and not the skins?

11075  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Question on 5.1 sound on: February 14, 2008, 04:45:30 PM
Hey guys, I got a q on a 5.1 setup, or more precisely, a 3.1 setup.  If you have a speaker system that is a center, two fronts, and a sub, but you set your source output to 5.1, will you lose the rear surround audio completely, or will some of it come from the fronts?

Also, if you put the source audio to stereo, will any sound come from the center channel or is a center useless unless you use the full 5.1?
11076  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Rock Band Impressions! on: February 14, 2008, 04:06:24 PM
Thanks guys....I'm going to try recalibrating.  I knew I wouldn't be Animal or anything but I swear I'm hitting those notes and I'm missing like crazy...it's silly.

So do you guys have to recalibrate every time depending on what instrument you are using?

Also,  there's  rattle inside my RB guitar, right out of the box.  Do you think I should send it back already? =\
