I just grabbed this on PS4, it's fucking awesome!

I agree, not sure why I waited.  I played the free weekend a couple weeks back and got hooked and ended up buying it then.

Yes, and in -4 or so years, phones will be able to charge wirelessly.  Also, fast charging, which would also alleviate the problem to a lesser degree, does not exist on Apple phones.

Agree, but I guess they had to hold something back for the 7s next year.

I got to level 15 over the weekend and I still think this is the best battlefield yet.  Conquest feels like an actual large battle and the map in the Beta is amazing.  I wasn't even looking at this game and I will get it launch day now.

Played this for a little last night and rather enjoyed it.  The battlefield map spawning interface is pretty awesome.  Horses were cool, too!
Can you elucidate about the battlefield map spawning interface?

That's a fancy pants word I learned from an Iron Man comic book featuring Doctor Doom.  icon_smile

I don't recall seeing this implementation before in a battlefield game, but when you are in the spawn screen, you have a birds eye view of the whole battlefield and where your available spawn points are.  Maybe shows conflicts too?  You can select your spawn area and it zooms in from the aerial view right into your viewpoint.  It's a more dynamic implementation of the standard spawn map you see in online shooters.  I thought it was cool.
Yes, I do believe that you can see the battles. You can also see the real time status of each capture point and all of your allies, so you can get an idea of whats going on and choose your spawn point better. I originally had no intention of getting this but after playing for a while last night, my interest has grown..

I am in that same boat.  Definitely thinking I will be getting this now.

I still can't decide if I want to get this game on PC.  I really love exploration and discovery in games, but I'm kind of burned out on general survival mechanics that it sounds like make up the majority of this game.

I know I could just wait until it's cheaper, but this feels like a game that I'd want to be part of at the beginning if at all.

Can someone who's playing answer this - when they say "survival" mechanics does that mean you actually die and have to start over or something?  From Crusis's description it didn't sound like that at all, more of a crafting/mining thing than survival.

You have a life support system that needs power and a suit that decays over time.  You have to "refuel" them, but it's not really that big of a deal and it doesn't drain very fast imo.  You can die and a grave is spawned where you have to get back to it from your last save to retrieve your inventory.  I haven't found too much conflict though.  You have to go looking for trouble, at least early on.

Huh.  I still didn't know about the survival stuff, until I just read it in your post.  Yeah, that's a big strike against the game, if that's the case.  I have no interest in survival games.  Like you, I've tried them, and they're just not for me.

For me, my interest was all about the exploration.  In fact, the potential for that is so good, I'm hoping to hear that the survival stuff is very simple and just sprinkled into the game, because I'd like to enjoy it.

Not sure if you were paying attention to the trailers the last month, but more and more it screamed survival in space than explore in space.  Sorry collecting items and constantly meeting checklists in order to survive doesn't scream fun for me.  I'm willing to try it once it's below $15.  i think we'll see a big price drop soon.  It already has a limited audience based on the type of game.  I'd argue the hype enticed people to buy who wouldnt normally buy it.

So.. you can't reload your gun in game?  has to be done in a menu?  Wow.

You have a multi-tool that is a gun and mining laser (potentially).  You only start out with a mining laser.  The combat gun mode allows you to reload at the press of a button until all rounds are used, then you have to go into the menu and refill.  So far there's not a lot of combat so it's no big deal.  The mining laser has a meter also and after you expend all the laser resource, you have to go into the menu.  It's not very frequent for either combat or mining.

You spend a ton of time in menus juggling inventory though.

Last nights episode  eek

That was awesome from beginning to end.  Some of the best dragon effects I've seen in any media ever.  And then that war battle, wow.

I might have said it before, but I have to wonder how George RR Martin feels these days.  On the one hand it must be incredibly exciting to see such awesome content come to life.  But on the other I can't imagine how bittersweet it is to have all these massive plot points and reveals he's held in his pocket for over 20 years being revealed by someone else.  I really thought that alone would have motivated him to get his ass in gear and finish, but at this point he might as well just take his time and finish the series in 2030 lol.

How weird is it going to be when the books continue to diverge from the show?

I'm probably about half way through the game but the jeep chase through the town and then after Sam was one of the most fun and exciting gaming experiences I've had in a LONG time. It was literally like being directly in control of a blockbuster summer action movie. Simply sublime!

That is exactly the sequence I was thinking of when I posted!

Still having a blast with this game, even playing through levels and just blasting demons with my upgrades.  Is there a new game+ kind of thing where you can earn all upgrades or can you do that if you find everything in general?  Seems like there's not enough upgrades or argent energy to fully upgrade the armor and all weapons.

So... I haven't loaded a save game yet since I only played once so far for a little while... How does it work? Based on your posts it sounds like you can't stop and save in the middle of a level.  Is that accurate?

You can stop in the middle of your furthest level and go and play previously completed levels without erasing your furthest progress.  It's kind of nice really. There's separate options for resume vs replay.

If you replay and earlier level, do your findings affect your game progress?

Like, if I missed one of those suit chips, and I go back to the earlier level and find it, does it appear when I load my main game?

Yes, your collectibles maintain and you only need to find the ones you haven't already collected if you replay a level.  The ones you already have just show as orange on map.  The others are still white.  If you go back to resume, you will have all the current collectibles and upgrades you found.

I can't get enough of this game. The combat is fast and fun. The levels get huge and there's tons of nooks and crannies for the OCD explorer!

My only "complaint" is about the hugeness of the levels.  It creates a similar problem that I had with the recent Wolfenstein games where I really love it, but I need to make sure I set aside enough time to play through a level in one go (or at least where I know I'll be able to follow up the following night).  If you stop midway through, you have to kind of get back into the flow of the map, which can actually add a lot of time to the next play.

I know it's not really fair to complain about that, but it makes it hard to jump into the game sometimes.

I can see that being the case as I am on level 4 and it seems massive.  Replaying to find secrets sounds like it could get lame because you have to play through the entire thing.

This is a later iteration of the engine with far, far less of those problems. If you're seeing low-res textures, you might be pushing your graphics card too hard.

I'll be playing on PS4, but Rage pop in was so bad I couldn't play more than an hour without getting annoyed.

Rage was their first attempt at using id Tech 5, and it was much improved with patches. Doom is using id Tech 6. That people generally no longer complain about the engine should be a good enough clue that it works.

Thanks, looks like my fears were unfounded as I didn't even notice it happen once in a couple hours.

This game is fun and not like I expected it would play, it really feels like a modern skin on OG Doom.  The melee deaths are actually kind of neat and useful too.  I will say it does not look quite as nice as the trailers made it look though.  For the record I am also playing through Uncharted 4 at the same time, so that might skew my opinion on the visuals.
