I don't have a 360 but I do have a PS2 and a XBox. I'm not a serious hardcore soccer fan any more, although I did play the sport for 8 seasons when I was a kid.

My question is; am I better off getting the PS2 version of WE 2007 or would WE 9 for the XBox suit me just as well? I had WE 8 for XBox and put quite a lot of time into it and enjoyed it, but without on-line play I eventually grew tired. In my city I can pick up WE 9 pre-owned for a lot less bucks than WE 2007.

I do have concerns that the WE 9 user community on Live will drop off rapidly now that WE 2007 is out for the 360. Should I be concerned about this?

On another note, for a non hardcore fan like myself would FIFA 2007 (XBox or PS2) be just as good a choice?

Yup, I agree it's an over exaggeration. But what I think the reviewer's trying to say is that the game really pushes the envelope for PS2 graphics and visuals. Similar to the way that Resident Evil 4 did for the Cube.

LOL  icon_biggrin Yup you're right denoginizer, Nintendo is definitely making a lot of money and sometimes in quite clandestine ways. But to be fair the link cable and adaptor did only cost me about $20. Plus even as early as a year ago the Micro had already seen 2 price drops, so it really didn't cost me a cent more than a GBA SP. And even better, wait and hold for the big clincher, I could get one with a pink ladybug skin. Which was real important at the time since the coral pink GBA's were no where to be found and damn it my daughter wanted one! Of course as I played it at the airports on my way home I umm...swapped out the ladybug skin for the cool black one.  icon_cool

I never saw the sense in the micro. especially if you have a Cell Phone. Screens are the same size and I don't have to change cartridges. its all saved on the phone.

Well the reason to own a GBA Micro over a cell phone is that it gives you access to the GBA library of games. Which IMO is the best handheld gaming library in existence.

Anyways...I bougth a micro for my daugther's birthday last year while I was away on business. And of course being the curious cat I am, I opened it and tested it out. I was very surprised by how easy it was to view the screen -much better quality than my GBA SP- and how easy it was for me to use it considering I have large hands. Of course it fits my daughters hands that much better and is more comfortable for her than a GBA SP. The layout of the buttons on the micro is excellent which is why it can accomadate different size hands.

My only complaint with it is that it doesn't support the same GameCube link and GBA link cables that the GBA & GBA SP's support. So in order for her to trade Pokemons with her brother and friends I had to purchase the Micro Link cable and a Micro adapter. The same is true for the Micro and the GBA wireless adaptor.

Not really true.  They did indeed move.  They were essentially second party to Nintendo, and they were deciding to move to Sony or MS, so MS was certainly "in the running".

Absolutely correct. In fact last console gen Factor 5 designed the Dolby ProLogic II API and toolset for the GameCube. They initially used it in Rogue Squadron II, after which Nintendo purchased the rights from them and made it available in their dev kits.

They were an important and valuable partner for Nintendo and one I'm sure Nintendo regrets loosing. But obviously if they didn't think the 360 was powerful enough they wouldn't have even given the Wii a 2nd glance.  icon_frown

It probably works in the same way that Halo 2 looks a bit better on the 360 than on the regular XBox.  There is probably some extra data on the disk or they will be downloading something to the PS3.

Sony is smart to do this; MS missed out by not doing anything to make the later XBox titles worth getting for the 360.

How does Halo 2 look better on the 360, is it upscaled to 720p? And if so don't the textures look quite poor as a result of this. Currently Halo 2 is running on my XBox at 480p 16:9 and it looks excellent on my HDTV.

Perhaps MS didn't implement 360 enhancements for later XBox games because they knew in advance they had no intention of making them backward compatible.

With a possible 50 hours of gameplay as stated in the GT review it would make more sense to purchase than rent since it would require a number of rentals to complete it.
From what's been said in reviews it's probably worth getting if you don't mind the simple combat. I'll probably eventually buy it, but not before I play through my existing list of PS2 RPG's. But hey, if you've already played all the other great PS2 RPG's then it sounds like it's worth it.

Wii Sports is very cool (even if my wife did beat me up in boxing)

Haven't opened Zelda yet.

Got a 512 SD memory card for $19 too.

What cable is everyone referring to?

A component cable that will allow you to connect your Wii to a TV with component inputs. The quality of the graphics are significantly better especially if you have an EDTV or HDTV that can accept a progressive scan signal.

I'd actually cut Mr. Bill a bit of slack on this one for the following reasons:

1. He has 2 kids at home, 1 of which is a daughter. I can well imagine that the Gate's household has a 360 in the family room **cough family theatre** and there isn't much that's appealing to his daughter. Personally I'm not planning on purchasing a 380 until Mass Effect or a price drop, but if my daughter gets wind of this game it'll probably be much sooner. Not that my sons and I won't enjoy playing it.  icon_wink

2. He isn't a gamer and openly admits it; come on his idea of hardcore gaming is being pawned in
on-line session of Project Gotham.

3. His comments reflect Microsofts' efforts to reach out to other gamers other than their XBox & 360 base. IMHO this is a good thing as there's currently too much shooting balls, hoops, pucks and bullets on the 360.

I agree I have no interest in playing a game like this and would much rather see  games like ED make their way to the Wii. I also thinks it's a mistake on behalf of Rockstar to bring a game like this to the Wii. Only because the Wii has had strong sales to new / casual  gamers and games like this are much more appealing to traditional / hardcore gamers. I also think a game like Manhunt 2 could really turn casual gamer away from considering future M rated games.

I found the quote from Activision CEO Mike Griffith during the conference call very interesting:

The key difference in our strategy versus the prior cycle, is that in addition to full support on Sony and Microsoft platforms, we will aggressively target the Nintendo platforms consistent with our multi-platform strategy and Nintendo’s expected growth. In fiscal 2008, we will double our offerings on the DS and the Wii, including Spider-Man, Shrek, Transformers, and Guitar Hero.

Looks like 2008 is shaping up as a big year for the Wii in terms of 3rd party releases. I know this is only 1 game publisher, but their influence on the game industry is signficant and can't be denied. I've no doubt other game developers and publishers will follow suit.

I've just started playing FF3 and I've reached the peak of the mountain where I confront the dragon Bahamut. I tried to fight him once before I realized it was no go and all my party consequently died.
So being stumped I found a guide that suggests the following action: RUN AWAY! USE THE FRIGGIN RUN COMMAND! I have no such option on any of my menus. I've tried the run button combo of pressing: 'B' while moving the + pad. But my party is always placed into a no win battle.
What is the run command that my guide is referring to?

Nintendo sold out everywhere this year due to the low price and the 'Nintendo' factor. They have a legion of fans that will buy anything with Nintendo stamped on it. They have the most hardcore fanboys of any console.

Not to misquote you Hetz, but I only included a portion of your comments as I don't want this thread to become too long and unreadable.

Anyways... in regards to the legions of Nintendo fanboys you refer to, if they do in fact exist, they must have gone into hibernation for the release of the GameCube. I've bought the last 3 generations of Nintendo consoles on launch day -yes you can call me a fanboy- and I can tell you that the Cube was anything but scarce. I walked into a big box store at noon on release date to be greeted with a stack of Cubes, whereas today that same store has notices posted in their window stating they have no Wii's available! If I recall correctly at the end of 2001 Nintendo hadn't even sold a 1/2 million units in NA! I'd say the success of the Wii has more to do with Nintendo giving the gaming public what they want similar to what Sony did with the PS2.

I'm not disagreeing that the PS3 will continue to sell; I still think the PS3 may very well eventually win this console gen. But what I'm saying is that Sony needs to shed the cocky and arrogant attitude they've built up over time. And Mr. Levitins comments' are just another example of that attitude. Trying to brush off the crash in the PS3 eBay market due to the fact they shipped 1.1 million units isn't exactly facing reality.
7876  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: "How a PlayStation speculator misread the market and lost" on: February 07, 2007, 12:05:33 AM
I love the level of denial in the Sony employee's statement

"I think a lot of people expected us just to ship on Nov. 17, so that no one would be able to buy them through Christmas and you'd see the insane eBay auction prices building up," said Matt Levitan, marketing and public relations manager for Sony Canada, who also said the company had shipped 1.1 million units to North America by the end of December. "We spoiled a few plans for people looking to make a big profit on the PS3."

He talks as if there wouldn't be insane auction prices for Wii's or 360's if that volume of units were shipped by Dec 31 in their respective launch years. In the case of the Wii we know that Nintendo delivered more than that number to NA, yet there were still no where to be found. And Even though MS didn't deliver that many 360's to NA by Dec. 31, 2005, based upon how scarce they were until March I'd be surprised if they would have been as easy to locate as a PS3 was last December.

I'm afraid Mr. Levitin needs to wake up and smell the roses. As far as I'm concerned his comments are just another example of spin doctoring by Sony marketing.

The original Metroid Prime is currently available for the GBA as 1 of the titles in the Classics series. So possibly Nintendo doesn't want to redirect any sales away from the GBA game to a VC release. Although they did release the original Legend of Zelda which is also a classic series game.
