Quote from: Rowdy on April 13, 2007, 09:57:37 PM

Great news, glad to see Harper supporting the military.  We don't need a big military, but at least modernize and give them up to date technology.  Hopefully the airforce and the F18s someone mentioned are next.  I'd be very surprised if Canada doesn't make a deal to pick up a number of Joint Strike Fighters at some point soon.

Someone made a joke about Canada's navy - we don't have a lot of vessels, but our frigates and destroyers are actually some of the most modern in the world.  The navy is the one area the Liberals didn't sell the military out, because we just have so much water to patrol, particularly in the north.

I actually made the initial comment about the Canadian Navy. My impressions are based upon my brother's experience between 1984 -1992, when he was stationed on a Canadian Mine Sweeper and Frigate as a Marine Engineering Officer. I remember visiting him here in BC on his mine sweeper which if I recall correctly was actually a converted fishing seiner; thus my comment of get new ships soon or sink. He did eventually get trained on the next gen, computerized ships which 1st sailed in the late 80's; so I did get to peek in some of the more impressive, modern ships.

Anyways....considering our airforce flew F-5A's and F-5B's for over 20 years, I don't think you'll be seeing us acquire JSF's anytime soon. I'm very proud of our troops and know they're some of the best in the world.  slywink thumbsup  I just wish our government would ensure they always had the equipment they need and deserve.

CSL, considering we lost 8 soldiers in the last week alone, I'm also not sure if now's the right time to be joining the CDN Armed Forces.

Anyone still playing this?  I just picked it up, and yesterday updated to 1.04760.  I haven't really got into it yet other than leaving the first house and talking to the two NPCs who join your party.

Had a really really hard time picking a race and class... I took a wood elf ranger, thinking I'd go Arcane Archer, just based on the class descriptions, but I hate missing out on 3/4 of the loot because I can't use it, or missing out on cool spell effects because I can't cast, etc...  Is an archer an effective way to go?  Is it fun?  Am I going to miss a ton of dialog?

What is a good class to play to really get to see the meat of the game?  I played BG2 and Throne of Bhaal back in the day but never played NWN1.

Rowdy, on my 1st play through of NWN1 I went with a Bard/Red Dragon Disciple/Arcane Archer build. Of course the race I chose was elf, which makes perfect sense for a DEX based build like this. I think my progression break down was Bard 1-5, RDD 1-7, AA 1-4, RDD 8-9. There are many guides / threads on Arcane Archer builds on the Bioware forums, so I strongly encourage you to do some searching there.

Although it wasn't until the end game that I finally made AA, it still was an excellent and very interesting build.  Being able to use the same character in the HoU expansion made it all the worth while. The inclusion of Bard with good lore skill meant I was able to use many of the items I acquired. And the RDD's dragon breath weapon is just awesome! smile

I'm currently about 2/3's through NWN2 and I'm going with my one of my tried and true favorite builds of Dwarf Cleric with 1 lvl of fighter.

Anyways... good to see the politicians our sincerely thinking about out troupes and willing to give them something more than an empty promise.
Now if we could just get them to upgrade the 20 year old avionics on our CF-18's and upgrade/replace some ships before the Navy sinks....

BTW; Final Detroit 4 Calgary 1. And yes indeed Iginla didn't get a single point.

Well....4 -1 for the Wngs over the Flames with only about 2 minutes to go. A very dissapointing and embarassing opening to the series for the Flames.  I might be wrong about this, but I don't thing Captain Jerome has a single point in this game.

Just tuned into the 1st period of the Calgary-Detroit game via live audio. The 1st period isn't even over and it's already 2-0 for the Wings. What's it with the Flames in this game ,they're playing like a bunch of old men! I guess the Flames haven't heard that it's the Wings that have the old men; cough, cough, Chelios.  disgust

He was one of a kind. You should pick up Slaughterhouse-5.

I couldn't get in to Slaughterhouse-5 at all.

Cat's Cradle is amazing.

Slaughterhouse 5, Cat's Cradle, Good Bless you Mr. Rosewater, Breakfast of Champions, Bluebeard I loved them all. I've always been a fan of his coined phrase; "why don't you take a flying fuck at a rolling donut, why don't you take a flying fuck at the mooooooooooon!"

I especially loved his pulp SciFi novels supposedly written by his fictitious author Kilgor Trout. My brother and I would always split a gut when we looked at the bio photo for Kilgour Trout on the back page.  icon_lol

Hey that's great to hear Bullwinkle; downloading it tonight.

I can't wait to see how Detroit and Nashville fair in the playoffs now that they'll have to face some real competition. As far as I'm concerned, their regular season numbers mean absolutely nothing when you consider the pathetic, bottom-feeder central division they racked the majority of them up in. If Detroit can manage to survive the Flames, they'll be so beat up they won't be in any shape for a cup run. The sames true for Nashville, let's see how much they enjoy the Sharks coming at them full force.

I just wish more Canadian teams had made the playoffs, but I'm not entirely sorry to see the Isles make it in at the expense of Toronto and Montreal. They survived a lot of controversy to get there and it means I might get a chance to see Smytty play. smile Of course surviving the Sabres aint gonna be easy!

And the premise of a RPG involving the early exploration of NA just sounds boring. Other than prirates, bucaneers and scoundrels in the Carribean I just can't think of anything exiting about this period in N.A. for an MMO. Perhaps if it's a strategy MMO it might work.

3 Virtual Console titles this week:

Galaga
NES
2 players
500 Wii Points
Players control their fighters, with their unique ability to combine with other fighters and shoot down the invading aliens. Aliens attack in formations using a variety of attack patterns. Rescue a captured fighter to combine with it, forming a Dual Fighter with twice the firepower. Earn Perfect Bonuses more easily by using a Dual Fighter on the Challenging Stages. Galaga was released in 1981 and became an instant classic with its innovative fighter-combination system and varied enemy attack patterns.

Bravoman
TurboGrafx-16
1 player
600 Wii Points
The village of Nitta has been invaded by the army of Dr. Bomb, an evil scientist who is plotting to take over the world. Facing this crisis is Bravoman, who received his powers from Alpha Man to stand up against Dr. Bomb in the name of justice. The village of Nitta consists of 22 stages - action stages that take place on the ground and shooting stages that take place underwater. Action stages use a unique control system in which the height of a jump and the distance of an attack changes depending on how long players hold down the button. Players collect the Luck Symbols that appear when they defeat enemies and give them to Lottery Man to get recovery and power-up items. Stop Dr. Bomb and bring peace to the village of Nitta and the rest of the world.

Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle
Sega Genesis
1-2 players
800 Wii Points
When King Thor was kidnapped, his son, Alex Kidd, held out hope that his father would return to their kingdom on Planet Aries. Finally, it was revealed that he was being held captive on Planet Paperock. As Alex, players race to his rescue through 11 levels, battling enemies and avoiding obstacles while winning coins that will buy special items and vehicles. At the end of each level, players encounter a boss and enter into a match of “Rock, Paper, Scissors.” Throwing the right symbols puts players ever closer to bringing King Thor home; throwing the wrong symbols squashes them beneath a heavy weight.

Other than Galaga I haven't heard of these.  The Alex Kidd game does sound interestng especially if it has a co-op play mode.
