My ancient relic of a MTB is currently being rebuilt in a friends shop. There's a public parkland bikeway right outside the back of my condo so it's easy to ride. Back in the day I did a lot of MTB touring, including touring across British Columbia twice.

Microplay, Blockbuster. I'm sure there are others too.

Micro-play? Are they still around? There was one in Barrie years ago but I haven't heard of one in ages.

Thanks.

Micro-Play pulled out or sold their stores in BC sometime around 2000.
I'm not sure if Block Buster is supporting game trades in my city. But then again, I've never taken in games or asked.

I find that 10 games = $300 off, but a whole console and 3 games is only $100 off to be a little bizarre.  Are you sure that's right?

Yes, as stated in the EB Canada GameDays promotion flyer; valid from April 27th - May 31st, PS3 for 399 with a 10 game trade in. Also should be noted that EB currently only gives $75 CDN trade in value on an XBox and less for the PS2 & GC. So the $100 credit for pre-gen console and 3 games is not a bad deal at least for the PS2 and GC. I also think the 399 offer is only a $250 saving as I believe EB Canada still retails the PS3 for $649.

Is the PS3 retailing for 699 in Canada?  Because otherwise the math is off.

Just a few points of info to clear things up:
Firstly: the PS3 is selling for 649 at EB stores in Canada, but it's selling for $699 at other retailers; BestBuy, Futurehop, etc...
Secondly: The GameDays promo just advertises the PS3 for $399 with the trade in of 10 games and doesn't make any mention of $300 off.

If you're thinking that a PS3 from EB is cheaper in Canada than it in the US after exchange, you're thoughts are correct. According to a local EB Manager, after the cheaper 20 GB PS3 was cancelled by Sony Canada, EB made the corporate decision to partially subsidize the 60 GB model by maintaining the original release date price. Their hope is to recoup profit loss through increased PS3 and PS2 game sales.

So in a nutshell; does EB Canada recognize that Sony Canada's Marketing team are inept idiots? Yup.
7365  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / [PC] The Secret World MMORPG : No Longer Pumped, Just Playing it. on: May 14, 2007, 07:38:08 PM
Wow, I haven't been this pumped about a MMO since Conan was announced. This games sounds very promising. I really liked AO in the post Shadow Lands era, so I'll probably enjoy this Funcom MMO as well. And It will probably release after I finally get my 360 so I'll have the option to play it on a console as well.
I highly recommend checking out the art work at the darkdaysarecoming.com website. The concept art sort of looks like a combination of Hunter:TR + Dark Watch + AO, with it being set in an alternate reality NY; or is it  a post-apocalyptic NY? Very cool!!

7366  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Shadow Grounds; Is it Worth Buying? on: May 14, 2007, 06:54:46 PM
I was thinking of picking up Shadow Grounds since EB is selling it for $8 CDN during the GameDays promotion.  I know it will run widescreen on my HDTV so for me that's a real plus.  It got some decent reviews and a sliver score on this site, but I was looking for some impressions from GT'ers that have played it.

Is it worth buying and playing?

It's also an absolute blast to play together with her even if only to share something from my youth with her. This and GH2 are currently two of her favorite games!

Likewise (for II) - my daughter (10) got into it but my Son (7) got way more into it and loves it. Nice game, although I have to confess to not really going for it in the same way.

My kids ages are in the opposite order; son (10) daughter (7). I'll bet there's less arguing with an older daughter and younger son during co-op play; my son can get very impatient. They both can't get enough of this game, they'd play it the whole weekend if I let them. Come to think of it, I'd play it for 1/2 the weekend given the chance. smile
I agree with other's here that LG II is the better game.

Actually they're developing a Final Fantasy Advance Tactics.  Not a big difference to some but a HUGE difference to me.

Canuck you're abolutely correct; my mistake in omitting 'advanced'. This is a continuation of the GBA FFT game and not an offspring of the PS FFT game.

Still surprising to me that they'd be bringing this to the PSP when they already have KH:CoM on the GBA. They could use the existing code base to considerably lessen the development effort for a DS version. Plus the fact that the GBA game was a decent game to begin with and sold quite well.

It's a great deal if you can take advantage of it. The exclusion lists at CDN EB's are set by trade in values; games typically need a $8 trade in value or greater to qualify. Unfortunately that cuts out many games with a general rule of thumb that only titles released in the last 2 years qualify.
You should also check to make sure the 2 offers you mention can stack, as sometimes promo's don't allow this.

EB occasionally relaxes trade in values for some promos. I used an EB promo last fall to trade in 15 older XBox and GC games for a new PS2 slim + memory card + component cable + 1 year extended warranty. The fact that I only paid $20 or less for most of the games meant I came away with a smile on my face.

They also showed footage of a new Star Ocean that has advanced voice acting; sounds like it's being developed for the PS3. They also showed footage for the new Kingdom Hearts, but very few details with the promise that it will be presented at length for the Tokyo Game Show in Sept. Still only Dragon Quest Swords for Wii with no announcement of any other new titles; personally a bit disappointed and surprised by this. Perhaps in September...

How well will Gparted work for resizing a drive that already contains an installation of XP and a multitude of games?
I really don't want to have to reinstall all my games and I don't have any backup medium large enough to do the entire drive; game saves and patch downloads are currently backed up.
I haven't worked with any flavour of Linux for about 5 few years, so I'm a little hesitant with this solution. If others have used this for scenarios like mine I'm willing to give it a try. I also don't have a clue where you get the Linux Live CD-ROM; how do I aquire it?

I've discovered that Partition Magic is still be sold in my area. Unfortunately now that it's owned by Symantec it costs $99.99 CDN! Just no way in hell I'm going to pay that for a utility I'm going to use a few times.

I've found Partition Expert on the Arcronis site and I can get it for $55 CDN. It's now sold in a software suite bundled with some other useful utilities, so needless to say I'm leaning towards it as my solution.

I recently did a dual-boot install of Vista on work PC and it went so well that I'm considering the same for my home PC.
However, my home PC only has a single partition that contains my WinXP installation. I've cleared off enough space so that I now have about 105 GB of my total 210 GB's free. I'd like to shrink my current WinXP partition down to about 130 GB, but I'm not sure what's the best utility for doing this. I've used Partition Magic in the past, but I don't even know if it's around anymore.

What's the best utility for shrinking an existing WinXP NTFS partition?

I think anyone who's in the market for a 360 right now is foolish to not await the arrival of the 65nm based chip model; even if it doesn't arrive until the holiday season.

Is that timeframe confirmed?

That's a good question. I'm going by Ridah's post in which he quoted the contents of Digitime's April 30th article:
http://www.gamingtrend.com/forums/index.php/topic,19925.0.html
Either way it doesn't matter much to me, as I've made my mind up to not buy a 360 until there's some improvement in quality.

Just a few tidbits about the deal:
  • Microsoft signed the original agreement with Chartered Semiconductor in April 2006.
  • The chips were originally supposed to go into production in Q1 of 2007 but were delayed until mid 2007.
  • China's Commercial Times -apparently not a very reliable source- has claimed that the chips are going into production in May and will be appear in 360's in the Fall.
  • Both the CPU and the GPU will be upgrading to 65nm versions.

Some additonal links I've found:

I only own 3 of those titles but I certainly wouldn't put SFII: WW in the number 3 spot ahead of SCIV or DKC; 1 of the weaker Street Figher titles IMHO. Come to think of it, I wouldn't have that game in a top 5 list considering there's also F-Zero, Legend of the Mystical Ninja and R-Type III to choose amongst.
7400  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: New 360 Buyer: Recommend Elite or Premium on: May 08, 2007, 05:00:02 PM
I don't own a 360 yet, so I've gone over this decision many times. I give the nod to the premium because I won't own a 1080p capable HDTV before the 360 far too short life cycle's over; the same is probably true for most people. And I'm not interested at all in viewing HD DVD's via my 360; didn't view a single DVD via my XBox or PS2.

I think anyone who's in the market for a 360 right now is foolish to not await the arrival of the 65nm based chip model; even if it doesn't arrive until the holiday season. The promise of much better system reliability will be worth the wait alone, plus the possibility of a price drop. I did the same with the original XBox, patiently awaiting the arrival of the S-controller model and I've never looked back; not a single problem in over 4 years and the benefit of not having to use the 'can of ham' controller.
