My internet pet peeve is you.

I dunno... sometimes there is something to be said for stylishness... in some movies it works to have a shotgun blow someone across the room.  But yeah.

Why is it that when someone is standing in front of glass and gets shot in the head, it always splatters blood and gore on the glass, yet somehow the bullet that delivered all of this energy doesn't shatter the glass?  I could even go for a bullet hole if I were pressed.  I'm pretty sure bullets don't stop the second they get to the opposite side of a head.

I will download this when I get home... if someone sees me on when they are in a fun game, shoot me an invite.

I much, much, much prefer this style of RPG to the Oblivion style of RPG.  I want a nice, focused story without too much futzing around.

As for 360 vs. PC, I had lockups on the 360 version as well as a couple on the PC version... so pick yer poison, I guess.
3486  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Call of Duty 4 Map Pack for the PC coming June 5th on: June 05, 2008, 08:24:23 PM
I've found I prefer 24 or less... 16 is often good...

No Harkonis is always good.

I hope he didn't!

I was looking at those stats earlier and was impressed with Lidstrom, then I saw Whitney's total... man. I get tired just thinking about that.

I took a quick look for it at lunch, but didn't see it... how do I go about downloading it?

It's never inappropriate to bitch about the NBC camera angles (HD or otherwise).  I can't gripe too much about the rest of their broadcast, though, as G3 is the only NBC broadcast I got to actually sit and watch (we watched G4 in a sportsbar, and attended G5).

I could easily see this going the distance -- a hot goaltender is the ultimate trump card this time of year.  Will be interesting to see if Fleury isn't the most worn-out player on the ice come G6.  Us non-goaltending watchers of the sport don't realize just how much energy a netminder expends in a game like that.

I'm with you on wanting it over in G6, however.  We're camping/rafting this weekend, so we wouldn't be able to watch G7 until getting back in town on Sunday night (and if it goes to OT, no guarantees that it'd be recorded on our DVR).

I just realized the game is on Saturday, not Friday... I should be able to watch it if it comes to that.

I was really quite happy with the coverage on Vs.  Good picture, etc.  Stupid NBC... I wouldn't mind the camera angles all that much if they could get their huge network into our HD lineup... boggles the mind.

Yeah, Fleury definitely had to work his ass off to post that win on Monday. Hopefully he's dead on his feet tonight. smile

Can I also bitch one final time about having to watch these last few games (and tonight's) on NBC, which I don't get in HD?  Every time someone really nails the puck I can't see it.  Ugh.

Weird... I honestly don't think I've ever seen (or at least not noticed) that... and I've shot lots and lots of people in COD4 who didn't die. smile

It's not actually that popular a perk. I usually see it on the shotgun wielding grenade-spam/martyrdom fanatics and pretty much nobody else. And I don't see too many of them since I never play Headquarters Tongue

The main players I have trouble with the the ones who play nothing but COD4 for 5 hours a day and kick the living shit out of me.  They need matchmaking based on how many hours you have played, or rank, or some shit...

I can't believe I read that whole thing.  Good story though.  I know what you mean about having that sinking realization that it wasn't going to go the way we wanted it to... oh well.  I tried to see you guys in the crowd, but those Wings jersey's don't stick out at the Joe like they do in Denver. smile

Having gone to six, I could actually see this going to seven if Fleury keeps it up, but it's clear which is the better team... I hope they are able to put it away tonight (especially since there is no way I would be able to watch a game 7).  Osgood seems off his step and Fleury is just on fire... the three goals on him are a testament to how well the wings really did play.  Some really impressive goaltending.

I'd think the experience factor helped (but not enough) during the distance of the game.  But even healthy 35 year bones and muscles don't bounce back from four hours of intense work out in 48 hours.  We're going to look much more tired than you on Wednesday.  We will just get our cup on a home game is all.  smile

Experience isn't going to stop a goaltender when he's on fire.

Also, I didn't realize you were actually on the team.

I'm wondering how the long game 5 will affect Game 6. Will the younger players of the Pens bounce back quicker? Will the experience of the Red Wings give them a clear advantage? Or will both teams be exhausted and the goalies take over?

Yeah, I don't know... the young guys on the Pens definitely seemed gassed a lot sooner than the 'old' guys on the Red Wings.  You watch Lidstrom, there's a guy who knows how to not waste energy... his movement all seems so laid back, but he's always where he needs to be, and always making the play he needs to make.  It doesn't ever seem like he gets wound up or flails around.  The Penguins really seemed to dig deep to pull out the energy there at the end, whereas the Wings didn't seem particularly phased by the length of the game... fat lot of good it did them. smile
3505  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Mass Effect PC... Impressions? on: June 03, 2008, 05:25:14 PM
Eightball... the Mako... I dunno... I actually *liked* the way it controlled on the 360 version... if I panned, I just automatically moved the driving stick to compensate and it felt natural to me, as it was just like controlling a player in most 3rd person games (e.g. GTA).  On the PC it's a little weird because the Mako drives like a tank in that it doesn't turn the front wheels to turn, it drives the opposite wheels from the direction of the turn, so it can be frustrating to get straightened out if you are moving slowly, and it seems like it is always swinging back and forth for me.

That said, I think the game overall is much better on the PC.
3506  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Call of Duty 4 Map Pack for the PC coming June 5th on: June 03, 2008, 05:21:31 PM
Which one is Juggernaut?

The PC version totally rules the 360 version... I still pretty much suck most of the time, but it's damn fun.  Some new maps will be extremely welcome.

3508  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: NHL Playoff Talk on: June 03, 2008, 04:50:25 AM
Oh christ.  That was just retarded... I could feel it slipping away from the Wings there in the 3rd OT...

It really seemed like the Penguins shots were real shots, and the Wings shots there in the last few minutes were kind of throwaways or something... I dunno.

Disappointing end there... that was a lot of damn hockey.
3509  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: NHL Playoff Talk on: June 03, 2008, 04:20:14 AM
Yeah, Fleury is amazing tonight.  I hate to say it, but Osgood has gotten really, really lucky on a few pucks... this should've been over a few times in both directions, but luck is saving the Red Wings (who are earning it by kicking ass anyway), and Fleury is saving the Penguins.
3510  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: NHL Playoff Talk on: June 03, 2008, 03:34:16 AM
Yeah, I think if Zetterberg hadn't gotten called on that totally BS penalty this game would be over right now... they were a goddamned steamroller at that point.
3511  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: NHL Playoff Talk on: June 03, 2008, 03:32:13 AM
Pens look totally exhausted at the end of the first OT.  I think Detroit is owning this game at this point, but Fleury is playing an amazing game, and the fact that the Penguins tied it with :34 left in the 3rd makes me nervous... you don't always win the games you deserve to.

Nail bitin' shit going on tonight!
3512  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: NHL Playoff Talk on: June 03, 2008, 02:43:50 AM
ARGH!  I can't believe that after just getting completely and utterly dominated for the entire 3rd that they were able to sneak one in and tie it up.  Man.

Ok... if the wings come out and play like they did that period, they'll win... the Pens don't really seem to have any gas left in the tank... they all look super beat.
3513  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: NHL Playoff Talk on: June 03, 2008, 01:51:00 AM
Goddamn this is frustrating to watch... I thought the Wings came out and were doing everything they needed to, but then the Pens scored two on what, four shots?  That seemed to get Detroit too wound up or something, and while they were coming back and really generating some good stuff in the middle of the 2nd, they've been flailing the last few minutes and just turning it over... and over, and over, and over...

Can't believe Filppula didn't get that 2 on one into the net... absolutely sick save by Fleury on that one.
3514  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: NHL Playoff Talk on: June 02, 2008, 08:13:49 PM
Well... he did say it was a good play... but then he has to downplay it to understate how bad the wings bitch slapped them in that 5 on 3 so that the Pens don't seem like total fuckups.  Of course both the pens and us know that they are.

They should have made it control the same way as character movement.

This is exactly how it worked on the 360 version, and everyone was crying their eyes out about it and how it should control the way it does in the PC version.  What can you do?
